I have been going to Nana's at least once a week since Jamal sold it to Denise. It was good before, but not worth an extra trip. Now it's one of my favorite places (and I "collect" restaurants) for breakfast and 16 miles each way isn't too far. They have a genuine" homey" atmosphere, with a wonderful staff, with great service, make the best biscuits and gravy almost anywhere, and you have to try the chicken fried steak. If you want something that isn't on the menu they will try to make it for you. (I'm still trying to get them to carry sarsaparilla. :D) The Daily specials are truly special. The staff are all "old timers" and know every regular who comes in, and many of the regular customers have become friends, too. Denise is looking for a place in Prescott Valley, closer to where I live. I hope she makes it because I'd eat there more often if she does. Tried this restaurant for the first time today. It was highly hyped up to us. Ugh. We decided to eat between dr appointments. The food is not homemade as the menu claims. My eggs were cold, hash browns were burnt. Chicken fried patty was squishy inside. My husband's "burrito", the meat was so dry it was powdery in texture and taste. It was cut in half on an angle like a wrap. He asked to have it smothered in the "green chili" sauce. It had a tablespoon plopped in the center of each half next to the wooden picks to hold the tortilla shut. I have been nauseated and throwing up within 15 minutes of leaving the restaurant. Hubby has a VERY strong stomach and he has had indigestion since. At 3/4 of the way through he finally got a refill on his ice tea. I was offered a refill on my coffee as the waitress was clearing the dishes from the table. It was a drop the food and leave kind of service. At 50 cents shy of $50 you would think the food would be at least warm and not cold and burnt at the same time, maybe even at least 1 refill on the coffee. As local residents we will never return and will advise all of our contacts to avoid this place. No accommodation space for wheelchairs or service animals. Less than 10 tables in the main dining area. Such a disappointment. read more

I've had breakfast here several times this last time I tried their slow cooked beef omelette. It was so dry. I couldn't eat it and the hashbrowns were burnt and cold. She replaced the hashbrowns took the omelette home and my dog wouldn't even eat it. I think they had the slow cooked meat and reheated it several times for it to be so dry just to serve it up as well as a home fries we're probably in a pan that they try to reheat. Their prices aren't cheap, but they really dropped the ball on this breakfast. Unfortunately, I won't be going back. read more

Everyone here is so friendly, and the food is definitely made "with love" as advertised. It's a bit further from downtown so it's not as crowded as some other breakfast places, but it's probably in my top 5 breakfast/brunch choices in Prescott. I had "Nana's skillet breakfast" which (thankfully) wasn't served in a skillet but was an absolute flavor bomb. My companions had sandwiches, salads, and other breakfasts, and everything was great. I just enjoy Nanas for a great breakfast!!! They know how to do hash browns nice and crunchy. Now they tend to fold them over so the insides are cooked nicely , not mushy but tasty. At home I get the one side really crispy and turn over so most of the potatoes are crispy. But that's me!! I still give these a. 5/5. Eggs sunny side whites were firm and yolk runny. T very well done! The nanas skillet had the chopped sausage ham bacon cheese of course onions and bell peppers making it tasty and the salsa served is homemade and excellent. Of course another 5/5. Stumbled upon this restaurant for lunch near the auto center on Willow Creek. Very busy at lunchtime but attentive staff. Had 1/2 BLTA and cup of soup. The sandwich was filled with bacon and perfectly toasted. Soup was broccoli cheese and it was awesome. It was thick and filled with cheese and broccoli chunks. This will be a hard review, both for me to write, and possibly for you to read if you love these amazing people like I do. With that said, we can just start with the good--the service. These folks are so nice, and the service is always prompt. Hard to go lower than three stars just because of this. I also love the small town diner/cafe feel they have going on here. Love the decor on the walls; feels like grandma's house. And love the mismatched dishes that come out sometimes, with those classic patterns around the rim of the plates--adorable. Now, the reasoning behind the three stars. This place is just so overpriced, and for a couple of reasons. First, the portions. It is really hard to be okay with paying $50 for breakfast for two, when both of you leave still feeling hungry. My plate was the best example. I was looking at the biscuits & gravy, and if you wanted just one B&G it was $1.99; not bad. Then $2.99 for two, and $3.99 for three. But if you want the B&G Breakfast, which comes with two eggs and choice of bacon or sausage, and this comes to $12!! This wouldn't be crazy bad by itself--but it is pretty bad in and of itself--but the fact that the breakfast meal comes with just the one B&G as part of the combo, makes for a very small plate of breakfast for $12. And my daughter's breakfast sandwich and small portion of hash browns was also $11! Second thing, is the food itself. They simply do not season it--at all. It is plain and flavorless. I am all for simple food, which is part of the reason I have to give at least three stars, but you have to season with at least a pinch of salt. My daughter's sausage, egg and cheese sandwich was incredibly bland and dry, even with the sausage on it. I will say this though. My daughter and I also got a cinnamon roll, and it was crazy good! Fluffy and gooey, and with a cream cheese frosting--it was the saving grace of the meal for sure. To sum up. I just cannot see myself going here again and paying $50 for breakfast for two--and this is my third time, really trying to give them a chance. read more

Do you all have as much trouble as I do getting eggs cooked properly at restaurants? My visit to Nana's Cafe proved to be yet another disappointing experience with restaurant eggs. For you folks who cook breakfast for us out there, it's right on Google and would only take you a few minutes to research what over-easy, over-medium, and over-hard is supposed to be like. A very basic bit of information for any breakfast restaurant to know. If you can't get eggs right, please just close it down, and sell it to someone who can, because you're in the wrong business and you're taking up rental space in our towns. Wow, I am kinda harsh sometimes. But geez, EGGS! People, eggs for crying out loud. I ordered four eggs over-medium. The first four out of the kitchen had runny egg whites so thick you could still see the plate through the clear uncooked egg. I asked for a second batch and reiterated that I would like them over-medium please. Second batch came out just barely cooked more than the first, and still with runny egg white. So I had a conversation with my waitress who was very nice and certainly experienced enough in the restaurant business that she ought to know how over-easy and over-medium eggs should come out of the kitchen. I was informed by her that over-easy eggs have runny egg whites and over-medium eggs have no runny egg whites with the yolk completely liquid. Are you shaking your head right now like I am? I decided just to let it go and eat the parts of the eggs that were cooked enough along with the delicious bacon and call it a breakfast. Why was I in Prescott Arizona you ask? I bought a car online and I went to pick it up and drive it home. What an interesting and beautiful part of the country. I took 89A through Sedona before picking up I40 for the drive back home to TN, which was a little boring at times, but still fascinating and I'm so glad I got to have that three-day experience. I go here when I am having my car serviced and it's very convenient to walk. I'm glad they had what I liked which was corn beef hash and eggs. Kathleen was my server and she did a really good job.
