I went to Nana's Mexican Kitchen on a Sunday morning with my wife and our toddler. Parking was easy, with plenty of spots directly in front of the restaurant. Inside, it's counter service. You order and pay first, then they bring the food to your table. The interior feels like a classic Mexican-style diner. It's very casual and not particularly polished, but comfortable. They had high chairs available in the back, and I was able to grab one for my toddler without any issue. I ordered a couple of breakfast tacos. [BREAKFAST TACOS] +Egg and Potato Breakfast Taco for $2.99 each - You can choose two toppings per taco, which makes this a great deal. These tacos are big, and honestly one could be enough, though two is doable if you're hungry. They came out with four different salsas plus a house chili oil. The flour tortillas tasted extremely fresh and were excellent. The salsas were spicy and flavorful, especially the chili oil, which really stood out. I would absolutely come back for these breakfast tacos. - 4.5/5 Service here was outstanding. Everyone was incredibly kind and welcoming, and when we were leaving they even offered me a calendar for the year. You can tell this is a neighborhood spot with a lot of regulars. The place feels very homey. Overall, Nana's Mexican Kitchen is a true hole-in-the-wall with excellent quality food, great prices, and genuinely warm service. Have you ever been to a restaurant that was so good that you couldn't stop thinking about it? That's Nana's. Located on 34th in the Heights, Nana's Mexican Restaurant is ridiculously good. We came for breakfast and ordered the breakfast tacos, chilaquiles verdes, a quesadilla, and migas--and every single dish was outstanding. I'm talking about the kind of good that makes you stop mid-bite just to close your eyes and think *OMG.* Mexican food is my favorite cuisine, and I can say with zero hesitation that Nana's has the best tortillas I've ever had. EVER. Not just in Houston, but in California and Mexico too! I don't know what kind of magic they're working back there, but these tortillas are next level. The breakfast tacos? Perfect. All of the ingredients are fresh and they are generous with the quantities. The chilaquiles? A crunchy, saucy dream. The migas? So flavorful and comforting. Even the quesadilla--usually the most basic thing on a menu--was yummy. They bring you three sauces: the habanero is fiery (in the best way) and full of flavor if you like a kick, but the jalapeño one... wow. I could practically drink it. I didn't (I swear), but I used it on everything I possibly could. It's that good. I think the third one was tomatillo, but whatever it was, it was really good! The vibe at Nana's is casual and welcoming. The menu's up on a board when you walk in, you place your order at the counter, and they bring it out to you. The space itself is super cute and cozy--nothing fancy, just good energy, nice people, and great food. Everyone we interacted with was friendly, which just made the whole experience even better. Now, full disclosure: parking isn't ideal. But honestly, find a way to make it work. This food is worth a little creative parking. This was our go-to Mexican restaurant for a couple months until they redid their menu and raised all the prices. The food is delicious and the tortillas are honestly the best I've had at any restaurant in Houston, but we haven't been since they raised the prices. I love the taco pirata but with the way they redid the menu it's been a little pricey for us to return. I also really enjoy their breakfast tacos. It was my first time here. You order and pay at the counter, seat yourselves. I had an aquas frescas limonada, it was sweet and refreshing. I also had two barbacoa tacos. Their flour tortillas were so soft, fluffy, moist, and delicious unlike other places where it's flat and not very flavorful. The barbacoa was moist and savory. Their salsas were delicious. We also got some chips and salsas when we sat at our table, however the chips were a bit stale. But it's ok the tortillas and food made up for it. The restaurant is clean, staff is friendly, the parking lot is a bit small but they also have a drive through. They also sell some spicy candy in the front. POV: you're still on a hunt to find the best Chilaquiles in the city and you just still happen to stumble across probably the best one This is solely based on food and the takeout service: so I got the Chilaquiles Verde to go drove 12 minutes home and it was still hot and flavorful. The food is always great and so is the service. We really enjoy this neighborhood spot for breakfast/brunch but also like the lunch menu.

The food is okay compared to Mexican food I grew up eating, but you have to go early for any specials if you don't want to get seriously overcharged for what you get. It's unheard of to pay nearly $14 for a smaller-portioned, Mexican taqueria breakfast plate, much less nearly $4 for a small soda. At nearly $20 for the meal, that is about double the price I'd pay back home for the same thing. On the positive side, however, I was impressed by their thicker, homemade tortillas and that they carry Maine Root (blueberry) soda. I'd only go back during early bird specials. read more

I like this little place. I don't usually rate places but i haven't had menudo like this since my grandma died. Yeah. Since my grandma died. The portions are nice and the coffee is really good too. I love their flour tortillas and everyone is super sweet The waitresses were super friendly and the customer service was 100%. They're all trying their best and I can definitely appreciate that. My boyfriend and I decided to check it out inside. We were a bit confused about how it worked upon walking in. We sat down but it is counter service. Oops. He had the chilaquiles verde. He inhaled it so fast that I barely got to try the verde sauce. The sauce was really good. I had the pirata which is the beef along with beans and avocado. The meat was nicely cooked. You got a lot of food for your money. The tostadas are three for 5.45 for just beans. They would have been awesome. I'd really like to try just that. My boyfriend decided to add ground beef on mine and that's the only thing I didn't like. It was super greasy. I wouldn't get this meat again. Went for the first time today. They now have a drive thru. It was like visiting an old friend. I didn't care for the last place it was and missed Fiesta Tacos. The woman who took my order over the phone was also the one at the drive thru when I arrived to pick up. Sweet lady. She gave me hand Sanitizer before I signed for my payment on her hand held CC machine and then gave me more for my hands after touching the screen to sign. Like others say, the tortillas are very soft. Everything was very good. The beans were very very good. They use bacon ends ( those yummy chunks of fried bacon) to mix into the eggs. They even added a sprig of parsley on top And a slice of cantaloupe. Nice touches. Will definitely go back and will probably become a regular again. read more

Breakfast or lunch or doesn't matter. Breakfast tacos are always on hot fresh made tortillas. The chorizo & egg here isn't greasy so I order it all the time. The chilequiles taco is another goodie. I hear they do brunch. So got to check that out soon. The sweetest people that work there. I love supporting local & family. I'm sure you can see by my check-ins I love this place.
