Not only did he rescue me in a pinch, but his innate understanding of style truly shone through. The standout moment was when Abdou intuitively suggested a beard design that perfectly suited my face, a style that I'd long imagined but hadn't been able to achieve elsewhere. It's not just a haircut or beard trim; with Abdou, it's a master class in personal presentation. I don't visit Boston often, but next time I'm in town I'll be back for another trim.

He essentially shooed me out of the "shop" which, frankly, looked dirty ...just for asking if there was any availability that day. I was charged in full anyway, and told any future booking would require prepayment, a policy I'd never once heard mentioned in 4-5 prior visits. A year later I gave them another shot. Booked with Jill Martin, appointment confirmed. One hour before my 5pm slot: a text canceling on me, citing "the issue in May of 2025." No call. No conversation. When I asked why, the answer was that she didn't like my "energy" and "vibe" -- nothing concrete, nothing that happened that day. If that was a real concern, it should have surfaced before confirming my booking, not sixty minutes before I was due to arrive. The owner offered zero accountability when I raised this directly. This isn't a policy dispute. It's a pattern of treating paying clients as disposable. Skip this shop, and skip Jill Martin specifically.

It was time to just go try out a new barbershop and get my hair trimmed. Using our handy dandy Yelp App, I looked up the nearest barbershop in the Seaport area without having to use public transportation or ride share services. Seaport Barbers was the nearest one with great reviews. I also did some research on their website for online booking. Made an appointment at 1pm with any barber who was available. Went in a little bit early just in case I got lost with Google Maps directions. Walked in and met Kevin, we quickly introduced ourselves and did a fast consultation and proceeded with my haircut. It took less than 20 minutes, got exactly what I needed with not a too high of a side fade, with good conversation at the same time. If you're in the Boston area and want a professional barber with 10 years of experience, he is your guy! There are also 5 other barbers available. Check out their website, Yelp or Instagram to see actual clients and customers haircuts to get an idea of what you may want!

Based on positive reviews here on Yelp, I visited Lyn at Fort Hill Barber Shop today for the first…read moretime. As others have said, finding the shop is not an obvious affair, but when I called to make an appointment, Lyn told me to enter the main lobby at 160 Federal and turn right. The shop entrance is a gold door that looks like it would be an employee-only area, stenciled smartly with black lettering: Fort Hill Barber Shop. Down a short hallway is the shop. The decor is pleasant -- sports memorabilia, family pictures, elixir advertisements and a T.V. Lyn's work station is very orderly and clean. She was the only barber present, and I'm pretty sure that's normal. She asked me how I like to have my hair cut and I told her a #4 clipper blade to taper the back and sides, scissor cut on top and a nice blend between the top and sides. Lyn said, "That's what I call a businessman's cut. Most men don't know the blade number, so I ask if they want a businessman's cut, then I use a #4." Lyn did exactly what I wanted. She even asked if I wanted the top thinned (as I have thick hair), so I told her to use her best judgement. She thinned it, and it looks great. She finished with a lather and shave on my neck and behind my ears, and then a splash of aftershave. Another reviewer said Lyn shaved his sideburns off twice, so I was pretty conscious to not let that happen. I needn't have worried, as she asked if I wanted them shortened, confirmed the length, and did what I asked. Lyn is gregarious and talked throughout my haircut. Overall a nice experience, and I'll be back if I'm in Boston next time I'm due for a haircut. $20 cash, $2 tip.

It's in the same building as First Republic Bank, but it's hidden down a weird white hallway. I told her exactly how I like my hair cut and she started out okay. I like a scissor cut on top and close fade on the sides. Pretty standard. She finishes the sides and grabs a big trimmer. She starts going around my crown and I stop her immediately. She explains that she's only blending the sides and that she would never think of using a trimmer on the top of my head. I very reluctantly allow her to continue. Then without warning she buzzes the top of my head! It wasn't a close buzz but I explicitly told her what I wanted. She starts talking about how you never get an even cut with scissors and how I won't be able to tell the difference. It's too late to stop her at this point. She has to finish the cut or I'll look like I went through a wood chipper. She finishes and takes out a straight razor to do my line up and my neck. I don't know what she did back there but I probably could have done a better job blindfolded.
