Really good find in Evanston. Pretty decor, good vibe, good food. I liked the massaman curry the most. The food wasn't exactly 5-star, but the dessert made up for it - I had the chocolate one with the vanilla ice cream and candies pecans and it was really excellent. read more

I had my fair share of both regional Thai food in Thailand (Northern, Isan, and South) as well as authentic Thai joints in NYC. Unfortunately, I simply cannot find any resemblance in here to any of them. I really do appreciate the service I received, however, I cannot recommend NaKorn to anyone looking for an authentic Thai food experience, especially at this price point. The seafood in coconut curry tasted completely watered down and the portion is insultingly small. The other dish I tried is the streak with yellow curry. Again, quite a big miss for me. The meat was nothing to write home about, and the curry lacked serious flavoring of any sort. I was also quite puzzled to see basil being served as a garnish as opposed to cooked into the dish. As a dish, neither the curry or steak complemented one another. In all, utterly disappointed on food, quantity, as well as how overpriced this place is. read more

Just the take out I needed! I was in Chicago and needed something fast and delivery enabled! This was what I was looking for. Decent price, authentic flavors, great presentation, and all around yummy. I went with the Rice noodles, crab, and coconut curry sauce. For the side I did the roasted cauliflower cause ya know, vegetables or whatever. But for a little splurge I did the house made hibiscus soda! Everything was fresh, full of flavor, prepared very well. My only complaint is the menu could do with a few more options and my take out had no utensils. I know, I know. But I didn't want to have to ask the hotel for utensils. Other than that, great little place! read more

I love the food from Nakorn! Personal favorites are monikas popcorn chicken and rice crackers for starters. Favorite main dishes are the jumbo lump crab meat with noodles and the branzino. I'm hungry just writing this! read more

NaKorn is no ordinary Thai restaurant. The food here is incredibly flavorful and the offerings are unique. Service is Thai friendly and efficient. Special attention goes to the lump crab in a flavorful sauce with Thai noodles Absolutely delicious Also, the half grilled chicken is outstanding Ginger tea is wonderful And now in season is the mango sticky rice Better than Thailand itself Give anything on the menu a try..you won't be disappointed read more

Great food and customer service! Our server was very polite and he explained to us, in details, all the menu. And for course, the food was GREAT! Tarot chicken hit the spot. My boyfriend and I ordered the Jumbo Lump Blue Crab Meat and Coconut Milk Poached Prawns, it was spot on. We finished the whole plate and we want moooore! Desserts were on point! Chocolate Mousse is okay but the Mango sticky rice was the best! I love this place. Definitely, we will go back here... soon! read more

NaKorn is a wonderful gem in downtown Evanston. Every time we dine there the service is wonderful, the food is outstanding and we thoroughly enjoy ourselves. read more

I never noticed this place, until I read the Yelp reviews. So wife and I tried it last night, and really enjoyed it. Yelp reviews were accurate. It's definitely a nice change from the typical Pad Thai/Lard Nar style of Thai food (not that I don't enjoy that). It's a more interesting, smaller menu. The food was delicious, and the decor very lovely and warm. The service is attentive and friendly. I would definitely go back. Why not 5 stars? I'm a tough grader. I am saving 5 stars for something that is out-of-this-world extraordinary. If I could have given it 4.25 - 4.5 stars, I would have. For those in/near Evanston who enjoy Thai food, I would give this a try. read more

I felt the portions were small and some of the dishes, in particular the fish flake covered watermelon, were not very good. In fact, that particular dish, despite looking nice, was kind of gross, and we didn't finish it. The staff were friendly and I'd give it another shot if invited out, but can't see myself going there again of my own volition. I do like the concept of a fine dining thai food, but this didn't do it for me. read more

I ate here several years ago, was not impressed, and agreed to go with a friend for a second chance. Big mistake. The setting is lovely and the tea was good (ginger-lemongrass) but the food: eh. I ordered the pad thai thinking how can a thai restaurant go wrong on such a stand dish. Sadly, it was dry, flavorless, with a huge pile of red pepper flakes (which they told me to remove if it was too much) with little piles of dry ingredients which you had to mix together. Mostly rice noodles, no sauce, no seasonings, no taste. Their display is nice but yuk for the food. Food is not in-expensive for what you get. Will not return. read more

The best pad thai in the suburbs! We also had their chocolate mousse and sticky toffee pudding and those were very good too!

Fourth visit here for lunch. Tried bites the first time and I think the bites are even better than the main dishes! read more

The quality of Nakorn's food is superb! I just visited Thailand recently, and this food brought me right back. The flavors are on point, the service is friendly, and the menu is diverse. The owner seems so kind and truly interested in the patrons. It is a little bit expensive, but I don't think it's unreasonable (especially for the quality of the food). Additionally, they have a patio so you can bring your dog when you go to dinner and you can enjoy the outdoors :) read more

The decor and the atmosphere was exceptional. From the abacus lined bar to the birdcage lights, the details built a great ambience. For lunch, we shared the coconut prawns and the longevity noodles. I felt like the food lacked flavor in general. The coconut prawns were inherently good but the coconut milk broth and noodles it came with had little flavor. The longevity noodles were okay but the stir-fry vegetables also lacked flavor or maybe just didn't have salt. Anyway, I think if we will come again, it'll be for a drink at the bar to enjoy the ambience. read more

We were riding in downtown Evanston to grab a bite for dinner yesterday. We have walked by this restaurant before. This time we noticed a sign an award for 2018. So we decided to try it out. Great decor, comfortable environment, great service, food was delicious, and food presentation is beautiful. It's definitely my favorite Thai restaurant so far!! read more

This place was very good. Evanston so not downtown prices. Thai food, but fancy and different! The drinks were very strong (which is always a plus) and the service and ambiance was very nice. Great for those date nights you don't want to head downtown! read more

What I've known as Thai Food has always been limited; go-to dishes I've had in the past have been fine, but never made Thai a high choice in dining options. My intentions were to know more, once I found or was presented with the opportunity. To that end, when a friend recommended NaKorn in Evanston, I went hoping it would be that different and better Thai cooking experience. I came away very impressed. My favorite was the crab cake bite appetizer; and my entree, the Khun Sompit's Big Fish, was juicy and flavorful. I tried my friend's short ribs and that was delicious as well. The Evanston-brewed Sketchbook Honey Bird APA was a nice option on their beer list. The service was just right; attentive without being intrusive. This was a unique, informative, and excellent dining experience. read more

This restaurant is TOP quality!!! Everything from the ambiance, to the servers, to the amazing authentic food. This restaurant is our favorite in all of Chicagoland area. It is well decorated, they always remember us as repeat customers and the food is reasonably priced for the quality you get! I absolutely LOVE the coconut curry braised chicken. The chicken is so tender and the flavors of the curry are so rich and unique! My favorite are the slivered almonds and the crispy shredded sweet potatoes. They add a perfect crunch to the dish. Highly highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for authentic Thai family recipes! read more

We are looking for a fabulous Thai restaurant with delectable curry dishes ...NaKorn is not that, unfortunately. Very nice atmosphere and lovely decor--- especially the wood/cane bird cages hung above. The place was sparse on a Friday night...Menu was very 'short'...the dishes are a sort of a made up fusion of I guess Thai and '?" with nice presentation. It was worth trying but our 'search' for a really good traditional Thai Restaurant in the northshore continues. read more

Coming from Hawaii, my first trip to Chicago for a convention, I had reservations months in advance to every " must " restaurant. However, the buzz about this place was contagious. So we took the 20 minute uber from The Loop to Nakorn. We were very pleased with the ambiance and authentic, yet non- typical Thai restaurant experience. That being said, the dishes were authentic yet modern. We had the sense that this place was family owned and operated. Always nice to feel the love... Excellent service, ambiance, and food. Definite date night excellence. read more

Nakorn is one of the best if not the best restaurant in Evanston. Everything is impressive. The ambiance and the artistic design are unique and welcoming. Since I visited few weeks ago I feel like going back all the time. I don't know how to start Nakorn has the best raspberry hibiscus soda I have ever tasted. It is made in house and to perfection in terms of sweet/sour balance, taste and sense of freshness. I tasted the Arctic Char which I found very reach in taste and aromas. This is the best fish dish I had in Evanston for sure. I also strongly recommend the Cauliflower rice. My friend ordered it and I got to taste it and found it very delicious. I strongly recommend Coconut Curry Chicken. Exceptional aroma. I give Nakorn 10 out of 10 for food presentation and taste. Desserts: Nakorn offers exceptional deserts: Mango Sticky Rice was superb along with the chocolate mousse. The dessert menu offered nontraditional, very tasty with excellent presentation and freshness. The service is exceptional: hostess, waiter and table server are very warm and kind, professional and friendly. The owners come to table to friendly greet you, to tell you a story about the meals you have ordered and to thank you for visiting. I find that very rare and special in a culture where often in other restaurants the treatment is impersonal. Both the ambiance and personnel give a feeling of warmth, true care, unique and world class meal and a very happy ambiance. I am glad that we have Nakorn and superb Thai cuisine in our city and feel proud to be able to take friends there . read more

I met three friends for dinner. We each ordered an entree and were offered a choice of jasmine or coconut rice. The server did not tell us that the coconut rice was an up charge of $1.00/dish. There was no flavor of coconut in the so-called coconut rice. The dishes served were appropriately cooked, portions adequate...but no one will go home with a box, so don't know if they would be adequate for a hearty eater. No one checked on water supply until I asked for water while coughing. I would try the Italian place next door when next in the neighborhood! In response to comment from owner. We had reservations and were seated where the cold air blew on my back. Sat with my coat on the whole time. read more

NaKorn - Thai Near Me - Evanston, Illinois

I wanted to like you NaKorn, I really did.. but unfortunately I was not impressed. First off, I definitely do not categorize this as authentic Thai food. It's basically fancy Thai Asian fusion. It's literally like the Imperial Lamian of Thai food if you've ever been there. (You can read my Imperial Lamian review to understand more). I have to say I will give this place 5 stars on their presentation of their dishes. Their service was good, except for the fact that they were too attentive. They literally checked on us every 3-5 minutes. I was mid biting into my chicken appetizer while the bus boy decided to change our plates out since our entrees were coming. I felt as though I couldn't even take a break during the dinner because they kept wanting to clear our plates. I had to pretend I was eating so that they wouldn't bother us. We ordered the Jumbo Lump Crab Noodles, I really liked the yellow curry that came with the dish. I didn't care for the rest of the dish. Not even sure if the crab was fresh or from a can. The Taro Chicken appetizer had a soggy peanut sauce that was unappetizing as well as the chicken being soggy too. The presentation of this dish was 5 stars but the taste was definitely lacking. Lastly was the braised short ribs- it really tasted like something my parents make at home. There was nothing special about the dish and the brown rice that came with it was quite hard to chew. Again the presentation was great, but the dish was just basic! I am utterly disappointed after reading all of the reviews, I expected more. I unfortunately will not be recommending this place to my friends or family. I guess if you want an Instagram worthy meal that lacks flavor, then definitely go here. read more

Waited for second visit before reviewing. Personnel: exceptional from hostess, table bussing, waiter (very helpful) to the owner(s). Ambiance: only experience was outside however was told the interior is very impressive. Beverage: always good to have choice of Thai beer plus a choice of local micro brews served. Food: the sauces that accompanied Arctic char and coconut-curry chicken were superb requiring extra rice to insure "good to last drop". Desert: Mango, coconut sweet sticky rice deserves a "special mention" for presentation and combination of flavors. Chocolate mousse was a surprisingly large portion that was shared earning rave reviews. In summary NaKorn has joined my limited Evanston restaurants go to list. If you have visitors with an adventurous pallet include NaKorn to their Evanston dining experience. James read more

Flavors were good, service was great. The taro chicken appetizer, however, had a piece of grizzly, fatty chicken as one of the four small sushi-sized pieces for $8. That lack of attention to detail with higher end prices disappointed me. Also, the Coconut-Tamarind Sauce Sautéed Rice Noodle had good flavors, but pretty unappetizing, gritty texture. The atmosphere inside is really nice, and they have some outside tables as well when weather is welcoming. I am disappointed that I don't feel particularly inclined to return based on the lackluster food. read more

This food is incredible. From the moment we walked in, this felt like a culinary experience you may get in the Mission in San Francisco. Classic thai ingredients presented in a creative way that is refreshing and delightful to your tastebuds. We started with the whitefish bites for an appetizer and from that moment, I knew we were in for a treat. Never tasted anything like it. We actually bought one to bring back to our babysitter.
