UPDATE: The owner has reached out to resolve the issue, so hopefully I will continue to have more pleasant experiences at this salon in the future.
....
To give some context to my review, I've been going to Nails For You on North Queen for over a year now, typically twice to three times a month and have had mainly really good experiences.
However, the last few times I've gone I feel like I've been let down. I've had gel nails for a long time and just recently had them removed.
I always get shellac polish, never had a problem with this before as one would probably assume. Until about a week a week or so ago when I went in to remove my bio gel nails, and get a shellac manicure.
I'm really not that fussy of a person and this particular day was an overall bad day for me so I did not take it upon myself to critique the tech at the time, but about a week ago when I went in, the service was just overall not what I would typically expect from this salon.
Again, I didn't correct the things I was unhappy with at the time so I won't speak to that but I will say that not 2 days after getting a shellac manicure, my nails turned from the berry colour I'd chosen to orange and blotchy looking all over. It was hideous, but I was too busy to go in to have it fixed so I decided the next time I was at the salon I would say something.
Queue my last visit:
For your reference this was yesterday (June 18, 2018 between 11AM and 12PM to be exact). I told the tech I was in for a shellac POLISH CHANGE. When I sat down with her at the table I showed her my nails and explained it happened right after I was in last.
Was it tainted by cleaning products at work? Was it from being in the pool? The sun? I'm not sure but it had never in all my times getting shellac polish happened to me before.
She suggested to me that it was probably just that particular nail polish, and that it was a dud and said she had experienced complaints from others who had used this colour (the colour is #133 in their shellac polishes if you're wondering). I thought... Ok. But why keep it out on display or continue using it if you think the formula's bad?
Anyway, I left it at that, thought: "yeah I guess it was just a bad colour, I'll just get the polish changed, whatever," and proceeded with my service.
I'd like to note I could not find listed service prices ANYWHERE. Not online, didn't see them in the salon. Maybe I just missed it? Not sure, but I looked. I only ever got the same thing when I had gel nails so I didn't know the prices of anything else when I asked for a polish change on my hands and toes. Assumed it would be about $20 for the two services (this was the price at my last salon, and they have comparable pricing).
Wrong. SO WRONG. I have to admit, I was slightly horrified when she told me at the cash register my total for everything (polish change on hands and feet, and eyebrow wax) was.... drum roll please.... $63 BEFORE TAX.
Again, me just being me, I said nothing and ate it. I never asked a price, figured it was my own fault and moved on.
Queue 1 DAY after going in:
My newly polished nails are now turning colour and getting blotchy again. I'm honestly so disappointed, and frankly I feel pretty ripped off. I was never offered an incentive or compensation after my last visit, and feel quite honestly like the $63 price tag of this visit was a bit of a slap in the face. A polish change and eyebrows. I'm sorry I'm just slightly blown away.
If you're wondering why I'm writing this review, it's mainly for Kim (the owner). She was not there on this last occasion and I feel like had she been there the situation would have been different and I want her to read this and thoroughly understand my disappointments. I have brought in several new customers via referral, and stayed loyal to the business (and spent a fair bit of money) for quite a while now. I honestly just feel let down. I encourage Nails For You to somehow resolve this. Until then, I think I may have to start going back to my old salon. read more
