I have been a customer at Salina's on and off for about four years, mainly because of repeated issues with poor customer service. I actually stopped going for a full year. Recently, my best friend encouraged me to give them another chance, as she is still a regular customer. I had just taken on a new role in my profession and wanted my nails done for an important day. My friend even spoke with the owner beforehand to explain how meaningful the appointment was. I was scheduled for an 11:30 a.m. soak-off and a 12:00 p.m. full set. I arrived on time and waited. Around 12:10, the nail tech finally sat with me, looked at my nails, and said, "Your nails are not off." I told her I had confirmed the appointment with the owner and that the soak-off was supposed to be included. She began using the drill to remove the nails, and the heat became painful. I asked her to stop. She then told me she didn't have time to do my nails, spoke in her language, and walked away. I asked the owner what was happening, and she simply told me to make another appointment because she had other people to take care of. After years of trying to give this salon chances, this experience was extremely disrespectful and unprofessional--especially on a day that was so important to me. I had to ask her to cut my cuticles she said it was not standard service for a gel manicure (???). My gel manicure was thick and uneven. It chipped 3 days later. The salon had 3 employees in it and 2 customers and they rushed me to pick a color. The lady was waiting over my shoulder screaming when you pick color. I would have rather had them say they were too busy to take me than rush me. When I got my pedicure they did my nails in the chair which I don't like. It was very uncomfortable. i went a few months ago and i believe i had may, she did a wonderful job on my acrylic french tip yet today i went for a gel nail and it is the worst my nails have ever looked. 4 of them are completely see through (not fully covered) and they are all very different lengths. I had been going to this salon for a few months. I had moved to Fairfield last summer and my daughter went there. Basically happy, for basic services. This is definitely no frills, for a couple of dollars less than most salons. I guess everyone is looking to save money where they can. This is my only me thing I do to pamper myself, I'm not high maintenance. . Trying not to miss the hot towel, hand lotion massages after my nails were done. No massage of any kind was ever offered. Okay so far.no real complaints. Until I make an appointment for a mani pedi combination. I get sat in a chair and everything is fine until I notice 2 customers walk in. They ask me to get up while in the middle of the pedicure. They are going to finish it while I get my nails done. Say what?? I'm starting to feel like wtf and why no one else is being shuffled. They attempt to do my pedicure while the girl sits on the floor. She asks me to twist my lower body sideways to polish my toes. Oh hell no. I said you can finish when my nails are done. So I'm sitting with my toes half done a very unhappy camper. I felt like they are money hungry and overbooked. I called for an appointment and was open to anytime they had an opening. I didn't just walk in so they could squeeze me in between appointments. Halfway during my manicure someone comes back to finish my pedicure, again. I refuse to twist and contort myself because they can't manage their appointments and overbook. The owner yells over, sorry we are busy today. Now I know how cattle feel, but they are not paying $100 bucks plus tip for services. Never offer water or a complimentary massage. Never give a menu of different levels of service, just basic basic basic. Then I see them massaging someone. But I thought you guys didn't do that...you could be having an allergy attack and cough, you could be choking and no offer of water. No other salon I've been to, and I've had these services done for over 30 plus years, is so blind to any customer service. The fact that they thought it's ok to sit one way to get my nails done and twist my body sideways while the girl sits on the dirty floor just blows my mind. Just to add insult to injury I watch the guy who I got up for, be able to sit undisturbed through his entire pedi. I'm a generous tipper, but not that day. I wasn't going to leave any tip, but when the time came I left them each $5. I thought that would send a message. Two weeks later I walk in a new salon. Like night and day. Lotion on your hands, hot towels and a complimentary massage, which I added time to. I felt really pampered there, and totally missed that over the past 9 months. I have been going to Salina's for years, but I'm sad to say that the business has declined, such as when drying your nails, I'm given a pillow and the gel drying machine to hold on my lap!! Unprofessional Salina needs to realize her business has grown, and the space that she has is no longer meeting her need to provide a comfortable and desirable environment for her customers. There is no room for supplies. Most things are kept in the bathroom on the floor. Lastly, pedicure location is too tight and overcrowded. This salon is in need of a huge makeover!!!! DON'T COME! My biggest issue with my nails from here is that my nail tech used an acrylic glue containing Methyl Methacrylate (MMA), which was banned by the FDA in the 1970's, without informing me at all. (You can tell based on how the glue reacts to acetone). This chemical is so so bad for your nails but is used without a second thought at Nails by Salina. Additionally, I was overcharged for the "design" I asked for--I put in quotes because it looks nothing like the sample photo and the lines were rushed, sloppy, and with little regard for my input. The nail tech also failed to wipe my gel topcoat with rubbing alcohol and did not inform me that this step was needed for the top coat they used. I went here for a gel mani, the price is unbeatable and I love the way they came out. I always find it pretty difficult to find a nail salon that I like so much but this place was great. My nails were done by Lily, she did an amazing job of getting my cuticles and shaping my nails. I purchased a Groupon or a Gel Manicure. I did not enjoy my experience-- I got the extra massage that is $7 but I don't think it is a good idea for the lady to start massaging when you are getting your nails scraped to take the gels off. They should wait until you're soaking or getting painted. She starts massaging the second you sit in the chair and it is hard to enjoy when you are having something unpleasant done to your hands. Also- I have NEVER had a manicure, regular or gel where the nail lady did not massage my hands. At all. When I went to go pay with my Groupon, they seemed SO annoyed. Hands (and feet) down, the worst mani-ped I've ever had. Granted, I'm not a big nail buff and can't claim to be a regular in any particular shops, but this was such an exceptionally bad experience that the kindness of the technicians can't make up for it. (Okay, last bad cosmetics pun there.) I went with my mother and sister as a pre-wedding celebration and glamification, and right off the bat things went downhill very quickly. We were mostly separated into different rooms and nail stations so we couldn't really talk, which was kind of the point of the whole outing. From there, we proceeded to have our cuticles mercilessly trimmed back and destroyed so that I'll have painful hangnails for weeks now. Even getting the right shape out of the nails was a futile effort for my mom, who asked multiple times for ovals and after three attempts to correct the situation, only got squovals at best. The staff was incredibly friendly and warm, they have nice massaging chairs and were very attentive to our needs (temperature of the water, preferences etc.). They gave us hot towels and massaged legs/feet/hands. There were many colors to choose from and they even offered us a deal if we wanted gel, I need to do more research on it but they were not pushy at all.
