Review for Jenny (Waxer/Threader) If you read my last review on Impression you'll understand why I was in such a dire need to find a new eyebrow waxer. I came here based off of a rec from a friend and I happened to be in the area so I popped on by and Jenny was free to help me at the last minute. Right at the first glance of my eyebrows, Jenny immediately said to me, "Whoever did your eyebrows last made them way too thin." From that, I knew right off the bat she knew her ish and knew what she was doing. She cleaned up my eyebrows (painlessly, thank goodness) and then gave me a mirror after to show me that there were areas that I needed to grow out in order to get my natural arch back. Jenny spent the time to explain to me which areas I'm allowed to tweeze in order to avoid over-tweezing. She even pulled out an eyebrow pen to show me how to fill in my eyebrows in the meantime while I let my arch grow back. She was super thorough and cleaned up my eyebrows very well without taking off too much. Even the areas where she did need to pluck, it was painless! I couldn't have been happier after seeing Jenny and I'm glad to say that I am on my road to recovery! :) (Oh, also, she does threading and offered to do my lips but since I was in a rush I had to pass. I appreciated that she didn't pressure me to do it right then and there. I'll definitely be back and will definitely try threading next time.) read more

I decided to pay Leona a visit for my eyebrows after reading some of her Yelp reviews. There are relatively few reviews on here, but regardless, she is truly excellent (and underrated, perhaps because her salon is hidden in the back of Blue Mercury). She is SO meticulous and detail-oriented. She knows what she's doing (she measures first and knows to not over-pluck) and never rushes, always giving me the time of day for my eyebrows to look the best. I have light eyebrows, and before my first visit, I wasn't sure what she was going to do or if her work was going to make a significant difference on my face. It turned out great, and she continues to consistently do a flawless job. My brows always are more "accentuated" after she works on them. She does a wonderful job shaping my brows (creating a gentle arch), cleaning up my baby hairs, and overall making my face look a lot nicer ;) During my first visit, I asked her to do threading, as threading was what I had heard was "better," but she ended up doing a mix of waxing and threading, and it worked out nicely. During every visit, she continues to do this combo - she usually waxes first and then threads to deal with the smaller details. Logistically, she is easy to book. I can usually call early afternoon, and she'll have spots available later that day. My first visit was $20 (late 2018) for eyebrows, and then all visits for returning clients are $15 (as of August 2019). So quite affordable, especially compared to LaBelle, etc. Cash or check only. I've been going to see Leona for threading for a few years now. Not only is she good at what she does but she is priced very reasonably and it is easy to get an appointment. Once in a while I will get a facial as well and she makes sure to tailor the facial to my specific needs. She always gives me good advice about my skin. The salon is located in the back of the Blue Mercury beauty supply store so the accommodations are small and not fancy but that is probably what keeps her prices reasonable. Leona is a hidden gem as she offers exceptional services at a very good price point. She is the only person I trust to thread my eyebrows and trust me, I've been to very high end salons for this service. She is also an exceptional manicurist but lately I have been trying her facials. She uses a very interesting machine that uses mechanical suction/kneading to 'exercise' the muscles under your skin. My face looks noticeably more youthful, fresh and firmer when I leave. In between facials, I am having her do a 30 minute treatment with mainly this machine. I see it as exercise for the face and it really works well. I discovered Leona on Yelp and decided on try her out. I actually was a little confused finding her salon because it's actually located in the back of Peninsula Beauty Supply. And it's less of a salon and more of a cramped little room that doubles as both a hair and nail salon. If you're looking for a spa experience or even a relaxing experience, this is not your go-too. Leona is awesome though! She knows her craft and will give you a great manicure. I do want to note though that as beautiful as the manicure did turn out, my nails are chipping after less than a week. Any good manicurist knows to put an extra layer of polish at the tips to prohibit this -- which shockingly -- Leona did not do. But again, she really knows what she's doing so I'm honestly surprised she messed that up. read more

I have my nails done with gel since 15 years in France. Since I am living here I have been desperately looking for the same quality that I had over there... I tried many , and by chance I have found Leona !! She is just perfect ! My nails look great, natural, and I never had a single problem with them. She is also very aware of how to use natural products and her advices are always welcome. She is providing a hand massage at the end which leaves your skin nice and soft. This review is for a pedicure done by Jenny. First tip: cash or check only, no credit cards. It was a bit tricky to find. I didn't know that the salon was located inside a retail establishment so it felt weird to have people walking by, shopping and peeking in as they go by. The ladies are the sweetest ladies, but the pedicure was only OK; it actually was not very neat, nail polish on the cuticles, etc. The establishment wasn't set up with massage chairs, foot baths and everything felt like an adhoc operation. I don't think I would come back for a pedicure. AlthoughI might try them again if I'm thinking of getting my eyebrows done. There were many positive reviews for this particular service. read more

I have been getting liquid gel fills (not the stinky powder ones that crack) from Leona for close to 15 years! I moved to Oakland 6 years ago and still make the trip whenever possible. I visited Leona for the first time 2 weeks ago and go my eyebrows done and a pedi. I'm thoroughly impressed and will be coming back here often. Well, my fellow Yelpers have done it again and steered me toward a fabulous aesthetician in my new hood. Since moving to Mountain View a few weeks ago, my brows were in some serious need for TLC. I searched Yelp for a new brow lady and I've found her!!! Leona was wonderful! She's an expert at brows, takes the time to make sure they are perfect (and mine are naturally pretty invisible and unruly so kudos to her for making me look awesome) and is very friendly to boot! I got a brow wax and tint but Leona informed me she does all waxing (Brazilian for $35 on Sun/Mon!!!), facials and nails! While I was waiting for my brow tint to set, she noticed my cuticles were dry and put some ointment on them for me. She takes appointments every day and into the late evening which is helpful for mamas like me, VERY reasonable, is affable and an absolute genius with brows. What more can you ask for?! Tip: the shop is located on Main in Los Altos but after-hours she asks that you come in the back door because the shop is closed. The pain wasn't too bad (couldn't even feel the plucking) and she knew to keep my arch and to not make my eyebrows any thinner. I recently got a bikini wax by Leona and it was fantastic. She uses two types of topic numbing cream and a type of wax that I had never heard of or seen before. The result was an effective but significantly less painful experience. I previously went to an Aveda salon and paid twice as much for a more painful experience.
