The shrimp Louis salad is wonderful, large shrimp romane lettuce, smokey flavors. Oooo! The tuna appetizer was also wonderful! Seared to medium, crusted with sesame and melt in your mouth! 4.5 stars Stopped in for dinner on the way home from the Cardinals/Giants game we attended in St Louis today (Wednesday). It's not that big of a place - there's a bar and maybe 20 tables. We ordered a house salad and the hot crab dip with crispy bread to start - both very good. I ordered the cedar plank salmon special which has a "natural sugar and dill sauce" glaze and oh wow - so flavorful and just the right size. Randy ordered the blackened mahi and he really enjoyed it with their tarter sauce. My vegetable choice was fresh green beans with dried cranberries and chopped walnut vinaigrette and Randy had the fire roasted corn with bacon and jalepenos. We both had the potatoes with butter and garlic. We loved our sides. We shared the brownie sundae dessert and this was the only (slight) miss here although it was still good...the dessert would have been amazing if the brownie had been warmed. Served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and drizzled with caramel and chocolate sauce. Eliza was our server and she was very friendly, helpful and efficient. Great restaurant in the middle of a small town. Started with both the Ahi Poke Nachos and Spicy Shrimp Appetizers. Both were perfectly seasoned and delicious. The entrees were both fantastic. I wish Yelp would allow half stars because we would definitely give this place 4.5 stars. We had a great experience at this upscale restaurant. The service was exceptional. The waiter was attentive, responsive, and knowledgeable. The food was spot on. We enjoyed the Pork Belly appetizer, a burger, crab cakes and dessert. Sooooo, let's talk about dessert. The vanilla bean ice cream with a brown sugar, Jim Bean, banana sauce was divine. Like nothing I have ever had. The brownie ala mode was also delicious and was a good sized portion. The location is so nice, right in the heart of what seems like Main Street USA. Was in town on business and this was one of the few nice restaurants that was open on a Monday night. Really great food and service. I am a vegetarian and not a lot of options but they did have fried pickles and a portobello mushroom sandwich with melted Brie. The one I had could not have been any better. Beautifully prepared and presented. At dinner, I was surprised at how sophisticated and professional the cocktail program is. Food and atmosphere were very impressive. Great variety in the menu with prices and eye appeal to match.

So me and the wife got the rare opportunity to go out on a date night. I'll start with ambiance it wasn't bad but not ideal for date night or intimate your supper crammed in next to other tables and can't move in between tables when there's people going the opposite direction or staff in the way. As well my table was extremely wobbly and not stable. I can say the only reason for two stars is the service was so amazing Jenny D. was great the way she memorized the specials was awesome. We had cocktails that were good the lemon drop was the on the sweet side the old fashioned was good. The starters were bland a devoid of flavor the crab dip (was one note didn't taste like anything other than cream dip)and the clam strips(sliced so thin all you could taste was oil and batter) the crab cake dinner was dry and had pieces of shell in it the green beans teasted like nothing unless a cranberry was forked with it and the creamy goat cheese mash potatoes were not creamy they were a chunky mash and did not have the tang you would expect of goat cheese mash potato's the bison rib eye had decent flavor but only a crust on one side the fat was not rendered still extremely white and did not have an even mid rare as ordered it went from rear on one side to well done and that could have been poor cooking or bad butchering. Overall not a good experience wish that it was for the price point and for the amazing service. read more

Not quite what I expected to find in the little town of Rolla. Is located in the old downtown area or at least that's the looks of it. Kind of a small little restaurant with a nice bar area. I was seated immediately and had a chance to look over the menu. A lot of great options to choose from. I chose the ribeye because that's my favorite and I had a choice of potatoes and the vegetable of the day was carrots. My waiter came back a few moments after I ordered and apologized that they were out of ribeyes. A little disappointed but he recommended the Prime Sirloin that came with shrimp as well for about $15 cheaper than what I ordered. I had the choice of shrimp and took his recommendation of the sweet and spicy. When my plate came out which I will say took a little bit of time, the presentation was perfect and the recommendation of the shrimp, well that I am extremely happy that I took. I don't know quite how to explain them all I can say is make sure you get some. All in all a great experience, fantastic food, and a great atmosphere. read more

Ate here 2 nights ago. Michael was our waiter and he was fantastic. I think he was training someone new -maybe her name was Amy. If I got it wrong I'm sorry The service was fantastic. We had fried oyster mushrooms which were special that night... I had never had them before and truthfully I wrinkled my nose. Michael, however said they were fantastic and we really should try them! Oh my God, so glad we listened to Michael's suggestion! They were to die for! Burgers were cooked to perfection, juicy and very well seasoned..... I asked for my fries to be well done/extra crispy ...... pretty sure that didn't happen- but truthfully, by the time dinner came .....I was so filled with delicious fried oyster mushrooms.... it really didn't matter. The burger was WAY better than I can make at home (which is HIGH PRAISE)... but I was so full I ate about a third of it and I just had to stop..... I didn't even mention to the staff that the fries were not as well done as I would like ...I wasn't going to be spending a lot of time eating the fries..... I did pick out some of the more well-done ones and they were fantastic... I just ran out of room. Needless to say, I took my leftovers with me and before The break of Dawn the following day, I had finished that hamburger!! I didn't mention that I also had the wedge salad... Any other time, any other place... This wedge salad would've made a better impression.... Competition that night in the restaurant with the rest of what we ordered- was stiff!! Comparing the wedge to the fried oyster mushroom appetizer and our burgers.... truthfully, it came up a little short compared to the quality and taste of the rest of our food. Don't get me wrong, it was good - (and in the chef's defense -I ordered it without the raw red onion and with vinaigrette- not with blue cheese dressing- which is how I always order mine) .... so my experience may be different from somebody else's experience.....but to get it to 5 star status- if there were a few candied walnuts or candied pecans on it, a little more blue cheese.... A touch more bacon crumbles.... Maybe some fried onion strings... then it would be perfection. Overall- this place is great! Will definitely be back! And just because I feel like sharing .... I was eyeing a shrimp appetizer that the people eating at the next table were enjoying - it looked like they might've been very delicately fried with some type of batter and some sauce on them ..... they were all raving about the dish....I must have that next time! And somebody was eating a piece of fish (maybe sea bass?) that looked like it was cooked to perfection... and the moans coming from that table -from the woman eating that fish- sounded like she was really enjoying herself!!! Not quite an "I'll have what she's having" (when Harry Met Sally) moment -but just short of that much enjoyment..... Highly recommend this place!! read more

I was not expecting to experience the best seafood I've had for a long time. the place was a tad pricy, but well worth the price. we had the sweet and spicy shrimp and honey habanero shrimp, and crab dip cheese fries. all so good to start out, the wedge salad was perfect, and the seafood pasta was excellent. The pasta was a different kind of noodle, but the flavoring and seafood were all so very good. only thing that may have made it better would've been adding some bread to the entree but that's just me. also the service was impeccable and the atmosphere great for our crew of ten people. will be going back for sure! read more

You're no doubt in a town with a renowned university of science and technology when an owner uses a chemical name for a seafood restaurant! Salt Water did not disappoint! We came here for a birthday dinner from out of town and made reservations for Ash Wednesday...a day of fasting for Catholic faithful. The house salad was excellent...I was the only one to order this, but others in our party wanted one after sampling. I had the grilled salmon, which came with honey roasted carrots and small potatoes. It was very tasty! In Rolla there are few finer dining choices. Put this one on your list! read more

Solid four stars! With a few tweaks ... might be five stars. Tuna appetizer was very good. Halibut with Parmesan was also very good. Lived up to the claim as a fish place - both tasty. Chicken tenders (kids meal, mostly eaten by the kids) were possibly the best I've ever had! Excellent. The spice on them really made it. One kid didn't like them ... but there is no accounting for a five year old's taste. My steak was good...BUT...it's not really a proper steakhouse. The cut was thin and they don't know how to do a proper char. It was more a country-style steak: a thin cut with a crosshatch of grill marks. This is simply wrong, especially given the cut (prime ribeye). But, the quality of the meat and the spices on it still made it enjoyable enough. Wine by the glass was fine, but not extensive ... I got an excellent Napa cab that I really enjoyed (really excellent, well above average, Race Car Red from Napa) that they happened to be serving by the glass off menu. Would not have been pleased by the by-the-glass menu otherwise. Daou cab as your top by-the-glass red doesn't cut it, in my opinion. The waiter was overwhelmed by the Saturday Homecoming rush (forgot a few things, mixed up entrees, etc), but was nice. The food was so good it didn't matter much - my wife got the wrong entree and ate it anyway and was perfectly content! Recommended! But, I really hope they work out the steak thing. There was a case of beef dry-aging at the front of the restaurant (apparently dry-aged steak is an intermittent special) ... and the beef deserves better! read more

Our most recent of multiple previous visits the seafood was lacking. The shrimp basket was better called a french fry basket with a shrimp appetizer. Half the fries and at least one more shrimp would be an actual entree. The parmesan coated halibut could barely be found underneath the sauce which was slathered on like gravy on biscuits. The sauce itself was more a cream covering than an enhancing sauce. The potatoes could have used 30 seconds more cooking; and some effort at presentation. The iced tea was brewed either too strong or with a low quality tea. read more

Just spent almost two hours trying to dine here for lunch. I tried the crab cake and lamb sliders. The crab cake was mostly lump meat, which is great, but the crab had that unpleasant fishy taste that old seafood has, and I found the crab cake inedible. The sandwiches come with your choice of salad or fries, and I opted for the salad, which came out first. The dressing on it was delicious, but the salad was a bit overdressed, so I'd ask for it on the side in the future. I was surprised to see the lamb sliders come out with fries (but lost that surprise when a $7 charge for the side salad was on my bill). I was expecting lamb burgers, and was pleasantly surprised to see lamb meat. I had to squint to see it though, as the portion was tiny (see that thin sliver in the pic? that's the lamb). The meat itself was also more fat and gristle than anything else, and even with the paltry amount present, I still found myself pulling large chunks of cartilage out of my mouth. So, another inedible dish. I answered honestly when the waitress asked how my meal was, and she and management were gracious about it and allowed me to reorder. I considered just leaving because I'd already been there for about 45 minutes, but it was almost 3 o'clock, this was my first meal of the day, and I was STARVING. I figured it wouldn't take too long to replace the food, but then I was still foodless 30 minutes later. I tried the crab dip (so incredibly basic, tasted like just cheese with maybe some seafood and old bay thrown in - wouldn't recommend, but I scarfed down some because, again, ravenous at this point) and sweet and spicy shrimp. Nothing was good enough to write home about, but the old seafood, paltry servings, and overcharging all felt worth a review. read more

Ive had shark meat before and thats how it tasted...but I wasnt sure if Cod had the same taste. So I kept eating thinking it was normal....but then I got to the 2nd piece. We stopped here on our way to St Louis. It was a bit off the beaten path but SO worth the drive. The food was superb! We had the crab cake - which was a lump cake of generous portion. Fantastic flavor and sauce. Was made perfectly. We did have a couple of Tiny pieces of shell in it - but that's to be expected for this style of crab cake and it's my only comment that could be anything less than perfect. Staff was attentive and friendly. We also had the Louis Wedge with dressing on the side. It's made with Romaine which is much appreciated! Also had the shrimp medley- and I'm not lying when I say that it was the best fried shrimp I've ever had. Period. The Rosemary shrimp was good. This was literally the best dining experience I've had since I've been here. I came to this town to visit my grandparents and wanted to find a great restaurant while in town. I stumbled on this place and was extremely blown away. Our waitress, Valerie, was so friendly and attentive. Not only did we love our food but Valerie was amazing as well. Everything is FRESH! My husband got the Shrimp Pasta Carbonara and he tore it up!! I tried the pasta only since I'm not a big shrimp person and it had the most amazing flavor! The service was great!! Went this past Saturday with a party of 5 after having made our reservation with them 3 weeks earlier for my son's graduation. Made the reservation via text as listed on their website. When we arrived, they did not have our reservation and asked if we had received a confirmation call, which we had not. I showed them my text exchange and they admitted that they should have called to cancel my reservation because apparently, the person who took it and confirmed it should not have taken a reservation past 5 pm. There was no accountability, no apology or empathy for our situation. Every restaurant was booked. This was inexcusable and there should have been an attempt to work us in.
