Renovations have really cleaned up the 50m pool and now it feels good to swim in -- and it's just amazing to have a free resource in such a beautiful place on the island. Showers and other facilities work well. Would I give it 5-stars if it cost $20 to go to? Probably not. But it's free, friendly, and very communal. And now clean, clean, clean! :-) read more

Manoa Valley pool is a 50m pool that's open to the public with no fee. I like to lap swim as exercise, although it's been a while, and I have found that swimming at Manoa is pleasant and usually not crowded in the least. The ding that I have is how the lap rotation is organized. Confusing and not productive, I swam competitively and frankly I have accidentally run into or over fellow swimmers coming from the slow lane, (since the return is shared with the fast lane). Single lap circle swim is the traditional method of "sharing", and most lap swimmers are accustom to this formation, this in addition to adding lane lines would help with the confusion as well. PLEASE change this The general public should be aware that this pool can get quite cold, which is GREAT for lap swimmers, but challenging for families rec swimming or our older neighbors due to the temperature. Also be aware that there is a general swim area and a lap swim area. If you accidentally swim on the wrong side you will be corrected. This is for safety, and so the lap swimmer isn't getting jumped on, and they aren't kicking the rec swimmers. read more

The Mānoa Pool is the only pool I have swam at in Hawai'i. It is also the first and only 50 meter pool I have swam laps the full 50 meters at thus far. I was aware of this pool the years I lived in Mānoa (2012-2015) but didn't make it up until I came back for work in 2018. When I came to swim after doing some geology field work I found this pool to be the perfect place to get refreshed and burn some surplus energy. A huge perk of the pool, at least when I used it, is that they have free lap swim times. Very cool if on a budget. One of the nice set-ups on the pool deck is that cubbies are provided where you can store your stuff as you swim. Showers where you can rinse off before/after your swim are located in the restrooms which are inside the main building. In the pool, lanes are circle swimming. If there are few enough people you might get by with out and back swimming. Workers were laid back and friendly. read more

9/21/18 Update: Good News: It's open! Bad News: No money for hot showers. Other News: Night temperatures between 78-80 F. WINTER IS COMING! Effective Hours as of 9/21/2018: Lap/Free (3 lanes free, 5 lanes lap) Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 2:30 pm - 5:00 pm Monday, Wednesday, Friday 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm Saturday & Sunday, Holiday 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm Lap Swim Monday-Friday 10:30 am - 12:30 pm The City lifeguards are experimenting with night free swim, so part of the pool is free swim and part is lap swim. People are allowed do laps in the free swim if few/no free swimmers are in attendance. It's a good place to practice diving at night. Generally open 7 days a week, but with holiday hours on occasion and on certain holidays closed. Staff will post on a white board any changes to the schedule. 50 meter Olympic size pool. One of two Olympic size public pool open at night in town that I'm aware of (Kalihi being the other) as Palolo valley district park lights are STILL broken (insert epic eye roll here). Main pool itself is standard with multiple entry points and a powered chair to help disabled people in and out of the water. Pool also has a thermometer in case you're interested in what you're about to get yourself into. There's a kiddie pool which is much smaller and much shallower. Kiddie pool availability is dependent on staffing and is not open at night. Temperatures range during the Winter (December-March) at 80-69 F degrees. Summer can get all the way up to 90 F at night. It's like bathwater, but hey, still got get those laps in. Winter is usually icy cold at 69-73, but think of it as thermally assisted weight loss. The pool is only at the "Goldilocks" temperature for two months in late spring and two months in early fall. Lots of free equipment from kick boards, fins and pull floats. Equipment is only allowed in the lap only section. There is a communal goggles box but you have to ask for it. No lane lines, but there is a lap pattern that is indicated by the arrows on the deck on both sides. Just follow the arrows and you'll be fine. Otherwise, you get a talking to by the life guards, but they're pretty cool with it as long as you swim in line. Pool depth ranges from a few feet to 12 feet at the deepest. People are allowed to dive in at the deep end during free swim. Kids will often do cannon balls. Lane swimming for kids (evening included) requires an adult to swim or supervise them. Shower and changing area has been newly renovation with hot water. There are indoor and outdoor cubby holes to store your stuff. I've been going since July 2014 at night and occasionally Saturday/Sunday and theft is not a problem. It's really best to leave all your valuables at home or locked in your car's glove compartment. The crowd varies depending on the day and time as well as the season. Winter sees a steep drop off as temperatures decline, with the usual January fitness resolution crowd who then abandon their resolutions by February. Summer is crowded as people try to beat the heat. Weekend non-Winter is crowded as people bring their kids. Staff is charitable and friendly as long as you obey the rules. Ask the lifeguards about city swimming classes. Parking is available in the upper lot (via Manoa Road) or the side lot (via Kaaipu Avenue). Generally the side lot has more empty stalls even though it's a smaller lot. The park gets used for a variety of functions including baseball, tennis, basketball, so parking at certain times can be a challenge among its many shared users. All in all, it's a great place to get some high quality exercise that doesn't pound your joints. read more

Best long course pool on the island. Currently, there is no afternoon swimming because of electrical issues. However, the pool is free and it's the best FREE pool I've seen in the US. I've been swimming my entire life and have swam at many levels, at many pools around the world, and I think that manoa pool is great for what it is. The showers are always clean enough and the lifeguards are attentive and not teenagers playing on their phones. read more

Looking a little long in the tooth (the bottom needs repair in many areas, loose tiles, but if you're swimming and not walk/running it isn't an issue.) Looking at some of the comments, I'm a little confused, though maybe there have been appropriate responses to comments. The is a small shallow pool for kids next to the 8 lane 50 meter one, which has a deep end. There are three double lanes for lap swimming and a double lane for "free" swim, all separated by lane lines. The three lap lanes are designated as fast, medium and slow, though my experience in the spring and fall (I was on the mainland June - September) is that people go where there are fewer swimmers, not by pace, and arrows indicate counterclockwise swimming in all sections. This is the standard I've experienced over the last 50 years. The hours change depending on schools being in or out of session, but not radically, and the most I've seen in a double lane so far has been 5 people, so the rare occasions of passing are easy. Gorgeous views, a bit in the warm side in summer for serious lap swimming, cooler in the "winter" months, and solar hot water (which can fluctuate temps with heavy traffic) GREAT POOL AND STAFF!! read more

Okayyy I must say not my favorite place on island to attend open lap swim. Mostly because they make you swim down on one lane and the back down in another lane? If you have ever swam competitively you understand this makes no sense and is wildly inefficient- it feels plain wrong. Better to split a lane or swim straight in your on space. So take that into consideration if you are coming for lap swim. Also, the long time, regulars in Manoa can be very territorial when it comes to pool time- during the thick of COVID people would come an hour early to wait in line for a spot to swim, not to sure how it is lately. Old pool (it really shows), gorgeous views, friendly lifeguard staff and clean locker-rooms- it does the job. I do appreciate free pool time and the late evening hours. Always call ahead before you plan to go because pool hours and rules are always changing. read more

Very rude staff the water was cold and me and my family had just gotten in the water and we're told like we had to swim in lines which was fine if the lifeguard hadn't come up to us twice in the span of 3 minutes to tell us that we had to swim I was still getting use to the water and then then the lifeguard very rudely said that it would be best if we went to the other side(free Rome side) she kept eyeing me and we decided to leave read more

I like to go to Manoa Pool for lap swimming after a long day at work, or on a weekend afternoon. It's open 7 days a week (the C&C is no longer on furlough), which is impressive considering it's a C&C facility. The showers are relatively clean (what you can expect out of a public facility), the lifeguards are friendly, and there is a lot of parking. Tip - for lap swimming, look at the arrows on the ground near the pool - that'll tell you which direction you should be swimming in in that particular lane. You swim in one lane going down, and then move over to the next lane coming back. read more

Manoa Valley District Pool was NOT made for KIDS. Go on Sat or Sun, you DON'T see any KIDS 4 year to 10 year old in the pool. Time: 1:30pm Need to do some about that! An adult accompaning a child in the pool is a NO! NO! The adults were doing laps in the pool. There were lanes open. The adult knows how to swim, but the child is just learning to swim but the lifeguards said NO swim today. read more

Nice 50m pool set amongst mountains. Free to swim. Weird type of circle swim but I enjoyed both swims here. Parking is ample and free. Safe neighborhood. You can borrow kick boards and pull buoys. read more

Yup, freeclean pool, with kiddie pool. It can get crowded but like lot's of folks say, the people here are nice and considerate and have all their real teeth so it's all good. Hours are pretty consistent but they stress that you call because they do change especially if weather is bad or there's holidays etc. Saturday & Sunday: 2pm-5pm (Free Swim) Monday - Friday 11am-1pm (Lap Swim) 3pm-5pm (Free Swim) 6:30pm-8:30pm (Lap Swim) Pros: - Free, nice area, big enough pools -- in a nice park with lots of grassy areas, playgrounds, tennis courts -adjacent to the Manoa Elementary School -lots of free shaded, parking - hot water showers! Cons: -Old showers and bathroom facilities. It works well (good water pressure etc) but the place smells like mildew, the tiles are dirty and some broken. So bring shower slippers, I personally wouldn't want to walk around barefooted up in there.... -Older locker area, again just smells mildew. I mean it's already mildew/moist in Manoa and I know if C & C has money, they're putting it in the cleanliness of the pool and safety of swimmers....not the lockers and showers. read more

For being a public pool, this pool is amazing!!! I almost do not want to share my discovery and my swimming pool with anyone!!! For the longest time, I was checking into Manoa District Park instead of Manoa Pool because I did not want more people to know my secret swimming pool and crowd this place. Normally, it can get pretty busy in the evenings, but everyone is very friendly. The pool feels sort of like ocean water temperature (so heated?), but I am not sure. Showers have hot water and are decently clean. Pool also has boards available for you to borrow. There are plenty of cubby holes to place your bags and things. I believe the pool is your typical olympic size pool at 50m lengthwise. Open 7 days a week! Now you know what I do with my evenings, don't stalk me! read more

I love Manoa Pool! It gets crowded, but the people and the lifeguards are friendly. If you forget your goggles they let you borrow from the lost & found. :) I wish they had a reliable website to tell you when the pool hours change, when there are youth competitions, holiday hours, etc. Until then, thank god for Yelp! read more

Nice 50 m pool. Though as a first timer I didn't know the rules. One line to go down and another to come back. Dang did get schooled by the lifeguard. The olympic size pool is perfect for doing laps. The water is clear and you can practice on the free swim side, no pressure. Family friendly environment. read more

Good spot to get swimming laps in. Hours are reasonable, just be sure to follow the arrow rules when you are doing laps, or one of the regulars will be sure to tell you what you are doing wrong. Lifeguards are good, and there is a kiddie pool, little warm on warm days though. Locker rooms are clean enough and bathrooms are clean. Lots are space to store your belongings when you are swimming. read more

The lifeguards are a bit overwhelmed at times and take that out on the random person, the pool has the usual public pool floating bits, and the regulars can get a little snippety when others don't follow the unwritten rules, but hey, I'm a fan! What is good is that this pool is never too crowded, it is big, and you can swim rain or shine. I wish the hours would permit more lap swim time, especially on Tuesdays and Thursdays, but since it has been this way for awhile, I don't see that changing. Locker rooms are clean, and showers are well-maintained. What more can you ask for? read more

Manoa Park is good. I have been to this pool in the past. It is wide and large. it is based on the 50 yard distance. There is parking and there isn't an overflow from the District Park Facility. There are lay lines. The facilities to change are really well done. The only problem is the immense amount of swimmers that do come. It can be very crowded at some times. One has to share a lane with other swimmers and at times it may feel as if you are driving in a highway rather than doing laps. I would suggest coming at an earlier time and grab a schedule if the lifeguards do offer it. There are swimming equipment near the lockers for anyone to borrow. read more

There's a young woman lifeguard there who's always yelling at kids and parents. I used to bring my nieces but after she yelled at them (for simply holding my son in the water) they don't want to return. She's rude, obnoxious, and way too strict. Large public pool with great kiddie pool and nice views. Open for free swim daily, the pool can get crowded for laps, so show up early! Showers are warm and pools are clean and well kept. Staff is generally rude and unwelcoming and "hair" rules for girls is straight up ancient and unnecessary. Don't come here for the people, that's for sure. read more

This pool is always freezing cold, the Keiki pool is never open and if you try to have an ounce of fun you get scolded by the staff.

Usually very crowded. Lap lanes semi-anarchy. Shower rooms rather grim. Some homeless using them. Staff are nice.
