Review #23 for 2021…read more I love Makiki Pool! The workers are nice, and Daniel (the pool manager) even sends out updates about closures or other news about the pool. The facilities are always clean, including the bathrooms, deck, and pool. The bathroom's have showers, toilets, and changing areas. "Lockers" are located outside, and I use quotation marks because they're more like cubbies since they don't have doors or locks. The pool is not usually crowded, and sometimes you have to share a lane with one other person. Every time I've shared a lane, we've just stayed on one side or the other rather than doing circle swim. During the summer the pool was open every day except Sundays and holidays, but now in the fall lap swim is only open M/W/F/Sa because of swim lessons on T/Th. When times are available, they are limited to a mere 50 minutes and require reservations in advance. Frustrated, but accepting of the situation, I resigned myself to swim as much as I could in 50 minutes and accept any reservation times I could secure. The other day, I was walking my doodle with my wife and children through Pauoa Valley. When passing by Booth Park, I noticed that there was a schedule for lap swimming at the pool. Heck, I didn't know lap swimming was available at a community pool. Curious, I walked up to ask if there were open swim times. I was greeted and informed that there are 5 lanes and it's first-come-first-served availability at the listed times. WOW! Today, Sunday, since the Y is closed, I figured there's no time like the present to try out my new find. I headed over and, low and behold, I was able to immediately start my swim and I was able to get my ENTIRE pre-COVID workout in. I'm stoked! The lifeguards are helpful and friendly. The pool was clean and refreshingly cool. I look forward to spending more time here making my shoulders ache.

I grew up going to this club for swimming lessons and then for tennis lessons. We came here today…read moreto play a tennis match for a league. A lot has changed since I was here as a child. There's a pool near the front that's not just a kiddie pool. There's a ramp and not just stairs at the entrance (good for handicap/stroller accessibility). Unfortunately they closed the snack bar (used to be my favorite place to get gummy snacks after practice). I heard the tennis courts now have a surface that is squishy and unlike regular courts which is not too good. But other than that, it's just as I remember! The parking lot is pretty beat up and today had lots of pooling water in potholes. At least the parking is free!

It also appears there are large swim teams practicing daily in the afternoon. So..if you are expecting a leisurely quiet swim after work you are better off at the beach park. The facilities are dated with rotting railings. Bathrooms are old and not exactly the cleanest. The club has several tennis courts with regular patrons gossiping on the side lines and ummm..playing. Gym equipment is located kinda semi outdoors indoors style. Parking is tough in the afternoon with the kids and their parents descending in droves for swim classes or team practices. If you are expecting new equipment and cleanly updated surroundings with quiet work out space..this place is not for you.

Five stars! Highly recommended!…read moreAny free City pool with great hours that opens on the weekends and evenings during this pandemic is a great pool to have in our great community. It's a smaller pool with five lanes and only 25 yards each way, but the awesome staff (lifeguards) who try to squeeze in extra swimmers after ones that finish early are quite excellent in my book. The Salt Lake pool is too stringent with their limited hours and strict one person per lane per hour rules. Unlike them, this pool is really flexible and still abides by the COVID-19 rules. The outside shower heads are a bit stubby and can't get your entire body in it, but who's complaining. The parking is very limited though on-site, but there is street parking available. Other than that, that's about it. If you really want a good swim with great hours, highly recommend to come to this pool!

But I cannot take my kid into the pool with me without a life jacket on based on age. My 4 year old can swim better than many of the 6yo+ kids in the pool. But she has to take a swim test, not the older kids. My kid can swim down through my legs, touch my feet and get a sinker toy in 5 feet of water but because she's not trained to tread for a minute she has to wear a life jacket..... if your lifeguards haven't noticed a child struggling in 30 seconds they need more training. The pool isn't that big. If a kid can swim from one side of the pool and back without needing any help, they should be able to swim WITH their parent without a jacket. Maybe it's their insurance policy that needs reviewed. It sucks. We chose this hotel because of the awesome pool, to swim with our kids. I never saw any people there. That all changed a few months ago with a massive renovation of all the buildings and facilities. When you arrive, they have free dedicated parking along Dole Street, as well as sometimes free, sometimes metered street parking for overflow. The park facilities sit on a hill and go down: restrooms at the top, sports and playground down a ramp/stairs, baseball/open fields at the bottom. The park has public restrooms, water fountains with clean taps and good pressure, a new safe and modern playground, and large paved areas for children to play and ride bike. In the realm of sports, they have new basketball hoops and courts, two tennis courts with nice nets, and multiple baseball diamonds on the large field at the lowest level. The field is big and open; so this area does get exceptionally hot on a sunny day. There are trees around the perimeter that offer some shade. The nicest amenity is the public swimming pool. This is also free to use and offers dedicated lap swimming times and open swim times for families and fun. Be sure to checks signs for the hours as they change by season. They have additional restrooms, changing and locker areas, and professional lifeguards.
