I love this pool! Being on vacation I started to miss my lap swimming when I came across this little gem of a pool. Always clean, water is perfect temp. They have a great process for using the pool. Shower first & see the lifeguard for a lane to swim. This makes it so comfortable & easy for every one. I highly recommend McCully Pool. And its free

Current Schedule effective 6/10 to 7/28/18 is as follows: Lap/Free Swim (3.5 lanes lap, 2 lanes free swim) Monday to Friday: 3:30-5:00 PM Tuesday & Thursday: 6:30-8:30 PM Saturday/Holiday: 1:00-5:00 PM NO SUNDAY Lap Swim Monday to Thursday: 10:30-12:00 PM Friday 10:00-12:30 PM Entrance to the covered parking is on Pumehana street, which is a one way heading towards the mountains. McCully is a mix of one way and two way streets so map it out before you go to make sure you can get turn on to Pumehana in the correct direction. The parking structure has two entrances both on Pumehana with I'm estimating about 35 stalls including disabled and staff parking divided between two sections which are separate from each other. The parking is also used by other park users, so it can get crowded. Street parking is heavily dependent on what time you go. Pool wise, it's ALMOST a 25 yard pool. I say almost because it's just a little bit short due to the contractor messing up. Unlike many other smaller pools, there is a deep end that appears to be 8 feet with the shallow end steadily slanting down to meet the deep end of the pool. There are 6 lanes with the standard ladder entry and ADA water powered chair to help movement challenged people in and out of the pool. The pool is pretty warm as we head into summer. Lap pattern is swim in your lane up and down on empty times. Circle swim when it gets busy. Crowds are in flux now that Manoa reopened. The pool itself is located on the second floor of the building with the McCully side ramp open. There are showers/bathrooms that lead to the pool from the corridor next to the gymnasium doors. The showers are barely heated, but heated. There are storage cubbies, but like all public pools, leave your valuables at home or locked in your glove compartment. Free pool equipment includes kick boards and pull floats. Staff is friendly, especially if you know them from other pools. It's not the BEST exercise pool, but it will do in a pinch

This free public pool was a great spot to drop to swim some laps. A few things: 1. They have small lockers available, bring a lock. 2. They don't seem to answer the phone, but the latest hours are posted on the door. They change them seasonally. 3. The front entrance to the pool was locked, the one they seem to keep open is at the back of the parking structure.

I will be visiting Honolulu in early March. Is there a fee for using your pool? Thanks

Correct, the pools are free to use but we recommend calling the pool manager to get the hours of operation: (808) 768-6708

With the University of Hawaii Duke Kahanoku Aquatic Complex closing for visiting teams from the continent and Canada during the holiday break, Iolani kept their swim lanes open for devout swimmers who needed a place to get in their regular work outs. Coach Ivan and the Team exhibit the inclusive and supportive spirit shared among swimmers worldwide. It should come as no surprise that the team membership grew from just a few swimmers to a roster of 40+ in such a short amount of time. Regular swimmers of all age groups and abilities attend weekly practices, held conveniently after work hours. Seasonal athletes training for the swimming portion of a triathlon and open water swims also find themselves at Iolani pool for Coach Ivan's work outs. Judging by the number of them who have attained their personal best / set records for their age groups, it is fair to say this team fosters success. Most importantly, Iolani Swim Club provides the sort of safe space where swimmers support one another while still being able to compete with themselves to set higher standards. It's true that swimming saves lives. Have a look around you and see for yourself.

When times are available, they are limited to a mere 50 minutes and require reservations in advance. Frustrated, but accepting of the situation, I resigned myself to swim as much as I could in 50 minutes and accept any reservation times I could secure. The other day, I was walking my doodle with my wife and children through Pauoa Valley. When passing by Booth Park, I noticed that there was a schedule for lap swimming at the pool. Heck, I didn't know lap swimming was available at a community pool. Curious, I walked up to ask if there were open swim times. I was greeted and informed that there are 5 lanes and it's first-come-first-served availability at the listed times. WOW! Today, Sunday, since the Y is closed, I figured there's no time like the present to try out my new find. I headed over and, low and behold, I was able to immediately start my swim and I was able to get my ENTIRE pre-COVID workout in. I'm stoked! The lifeguards are helpful and friendly. The pool was clean and refreshingly cool. I look forward to spending more time here making my shoulders ache.

Review #23 for 2021…read more I love Makiki Pool! The workers are nice, and Daniel (the pool manager) even sends out updates about closures or other news about the pool. The facilities are always clean, including the bathrooms, deck, and pool. The bathroom's have showers, toilets, and changing areas. "Lockers" are located outside, and I use quotation marks because they're more like cubbies since they don't have doors or locks. The pool is not usually crowded, and sometimes you have to share a lane with one other person. Every time I've shared a lane, we've just stayed on one side or the other rather than doing circle swim. During the summer the pool was open every day except Sundays and holidays, but now in the fall lap swim is only open M/W/F/Sa because of swim lessons on T/Th.
