Great classes and lifeguards! The pool is always clean and the surrounding areas are well kept.

My family's experience with Nuuanu YMCA has been nothing short of amazing. My son started at 5 as a…read moresummer day camper and also participated in A+ at his elementary school which was run by Nuuanu YMCA. He would return every summer and winter break. Then came the swim lessons and culinary camp. Then during Covid he attended day camp so he could do his work while his father and I worked. Financial aid at the YMCA is amazing. I can't even remember how many times the program, including lunch, was all of a sudden free thanks to generous donors. Now 11 yrs later he just completed YMCA college camp. It truly flies by and I couldn't be happier with our ymca experience. Now that he's back from college camp he will finish his summer as a junior leader. I'm so grateful to Nuuanu YMCA for creating such a welcoming, engaging, safe environment for my child at any age.

It has all the same amenities: day-use lockers (bring your own lock), unisex sauna, communal showers, bathroom, and a door that leads directly to the pool, everything is just smaller and cozier. I like that there are chairs and stools throughout the locker to sit and rest. It's a very friendly and chatty vibe with a mostly older crowd. It's very nude in the locker room, just a heads up. Guys will brush their teeth at the sink naked as the day they were born! But it's a totally comfortable and judgment-free zone, and you get used to it. The gym is fantastic. All the machines and equipment are in excellent condition. It never gets too crowded. This is a wonderful facility.

Review #23 for 2021…read more I love Makiki Pool! The workers are nice, and Daniel (the pool manager) even sends out updates about closures or other news about the pool. The facilities are always clean, including the bathrooms, deck, and pool. The bathroom's have showers, toilets, and changing areas. "Lockers" are located outside, and I use quotation marks because they're more like cubbies since they don't have doors or locks. The pool is not usually crowded, and sometimes you have to share a lane with one other person. Every time I've shared a lane, we've just stayed on one side or the other rather than doing circle swim. During the summer the pool was open every day except Sundays and holidays, but now in the fall lap swim is only open M/W/F/Sa because of swim lessons on T/Th. But I cannot take my kid into the pool with me without a life jacket on based on age. My 4 year old can swim better than many of the 6yo+ kids in the pool. But she has to take a swim test, not the older kids. My kid can swim down through my legs, touch my feet and get a sinker toy in 5 feet of water but because she's not trained to tread for a minute she has to wear a life jacket..... if your lifeguards haven't noticed a child struggling in 30 seconds they need more training. The pool isn't that big. If a kid can swim from one side of the pool and back without needing any help, they should be able to swim WITH their parent without a jacket. Maybe it's their insurance policy that needs reviewed. It sucks. We chose this hotel because of the awesome pool, to swim with our kids. I love that they allow food into the pool area.. you can even eat your fries while you swim...
