I grew up going to this club for swimming lessons and then for tennis lessons. We came here today to play a tennis match for a league. A lot has changed since I was here as a child. There's a pool near the front that's not just a kiddie pool. There's a ramp and not just stairs at the entrance (good for handicap/stroller accessibility). Unfortunately they closed the snack bar (used to be my favorite place to get gummy snacks after practice). I heard the tennis courts now have a surface that is squishy and unlike regular courts which is not too good. But other than that, it's just as I remember! The parking lot is pretty beat up and today had lots of pooling water in potholes. At least the parking is free! read more

The biggest positive about this club are the pools. They are huge and there are 2 huge lap pools and 1 small kiddie pool. There are a number of instructors giving little kids lessons. It also appears there are large swim teams practicing daily in the afternoon. So..if you are expecting a leisurely quiet swim after work you are better off at the beach park. The facilities are dated with rotting railings. Bathrooms are old and not exactly the cleanest. The club has several tennis courts with regular patrons gossiping on the side lines and ummm..playing. Gym equipment is located kinda semi outdoors indoors style. Parking is tough in the afternoon with the kids and their parents descending in droves for swim classes or team practices. If you are expecting new equipment and cleanly updated surroundings with quiet work out space..this place is not for you. read more

I am writing only to review the swim lessons for kids, which are great. We don't belong to the club and have never used the tennis courts. But the pools are large and slightly heated. It's really difficult to get time slots for the lessons. They will tell you the date when registration opens and you have to be online at midnight in order to get a spot. Fortunately once you are in, you can keep the spot for the following sessions. Lessons are only 15 minutes, which I doubted at first. But turns out that is just the right amount of time for a 6 yo! And when the kids get older, you can book 2 sessions back to back, totaling 30 minutes. Our two boys love their instructor, Conner. He's serious, gets right down to business, and works hard with them to really perfect their strokes. We're very pleased. read more

I joined this club a couple months ago based on my gym criteria of needing a sauna, a pool and must be within 20mins of my house. Here on the SE side, that narrows it down to one option; the Oahu club. I'm convinced that this gym knows they have a fitness/pool monopoly over this area and therefore they're able to charge an arm and a leg for membership compared to other gyms. Otherwise, I don't understand how for $150/mo, they're able to get away with having such outdated equipment and amenities that need some serious TLC. Giving it 3 stars because it gets the job done but I sure would love to see the membership fees align with what the Oahu club actually offers. It also would be great if there were more early am and pm fitness classes added to the schedule. Sorry but most of us working folks aren't available for 9-11am classes. Come on, Oahu club - You've got the $$$$$, we'd love to see a Reno of the facilities! read more

Finding that routine that perpetuates a life style of health and wellness is the biggest challenge for those of us balancing work, play and the ever present honey do list at home. With that said, I happen to live only a few miles from the Oahu Club and the small but satisfactorily equipped gym downstairs is my primary place for a good workout. The elliptical machine is probably my favorite cardio and while they are the older models, they get the job done. I prefer the free weight dumb bells for my primary lifting workout. There is also an assortment of kettle ball weights for that super core workout. The main room is small with mirrored walls to gage your proper technique or for the rare show boat, a flex show. There are fans circulating the air and a row of free wheeling bikes for the go getter cycling enthusiasts. The weight benches are old school and work for me. The dumb bell racks are located conveniently along the wall and near the bench area. There is a small mat area for stretching and exercise balls to work that keg belly into a six pack! The Universal cable assist weights are somewhat antiquated but are a good part of establishing a routine that targets specific areas such as shoulders, back, chest, legs and arms. Olympic sized pools are a plus, but I rarely use them. Jacuzzi and hot sauna are a great after a good workout to relax and finish with those hot water jets or sitting by sweating away da pain in the Hot House! I see a lot of tennis players that like to lounge and snack court-side after a friendly match. Speaking of snacking, there's a snack bar that serves up sandwiches and other healthy delights. There is also a recreational area to hold a Birthday party or other members only event! Friendly staff but there are some Maintenance items, lights and minor repairs that seem to take longer than expected to complete. There is a log at the main entrance sales and equipment office where you can log a concern, complaint or much appreciated recognition for customer service that often goes without notice when everything is running smooth. I've been a member here before and quit going due to my work hours. I now have no good excuse working that coveted Mon-Fri 0600-1430 dayshift. I must also mention the Oahu Club has many kid friendly events and a variety of competitions for all age groups posted each month. Two things to be cautioned on: if your party is on the back lawn it is a far walk for your guests to climb up a set of stairs and walk a bit more to reach the restrooms. Not a place for your family. This afternoon with many families and members in the club, the Oahu Club allowed a party that spilled out into the street for many hours with cars racing, doing burnouts, crowds on the street, and drinking in the parking lot. They were playing music so loud and with such explicit lyrics that the entire neighborhood called the police multiple times. When I say explicit lyrics, I want you to imagine exceptionally bad language from both the music and DJ. When neighbors called to complain, nothing was done. When the police visited twice, the music went down for a few minutes, then right back up. This went on from around 4pm until about 7pm when there were 9 police cars in front of the Oahu Club. Is this the place you want to take your family for pool time and swim lessons? I watched families hurry out of the club covering their kids ears because the music and language was so offensive, and it continued until the party ended at 7pm and actual members had all evacuated. Zero civic or community consideration and no real pride for a quality club. Read through the reviews from people that have seen the club go down hill and have dealt with the staff. Make your own decision. I have a family with children and a wife that had to watch and hear this all go on outside their home and feel unsafe. My decision is made. Ask around the neighborhood. There is zero embellishment in this statement of facts. Side note: The police had both stopped by personally and called to inform them that the noise and activities needed to be controlled...These are our neighbors. They are not community minded. They controlled none of the activities even with members and children in the club or complaints from many neighbors and police. As I spoke with one of the responding police officers another car did a burnout all down the street. A street on which two people have been hit and killed over the past year. read more

It's a good club, the facilities are good enough. The pools are good. The gym is nothing to write home about. The tennis courts are good. My issue and many others I know have an issue with CLEANLINESS and DISORGANIZED MANAGEMENT. The pool where everyone hangs out on the right side of the big pool is NEVER cleaned enough. Also there are flys everywhere. I think because the feral cats are peeing everywhere at night. Either way, whatever it is, the flys are a real problem and you can't do anything without being bothered by them. Get rid of the flys! read more

Nice place to have parties. You can have small and big parties. The smaller parties have the tents set up right next to the pool. The larger parties are located at the bottom lawn area. Where you might encounter some ducks. The tent is nice and big. You don't have to set up tables or chairs, all you do is decorate. You could also bring your own alcohol, if you choose. There is a large pool that have three areas to swim laps. Right next to the pool there is a jacuzzi and also a sauna. The girls bathroom have cubbies, lockers, hair dryer, 2 private showers and four open showers all with warm water. I gave it four stars because it needs upgrading. read more

Our family has been members of this club for about five years now and this place a great fit for us. I love their kick boxing, spin, and yoga classes. They also have pilates, Zumba, aqua aerobics, and many other classes that are included in yoru membership fee. For an additional fee, they also offer tennis and swim lessons. This club is an open air club. There is no air conditioning anywhere. I actually like this because when you're running on a treadmill, lifting weights or punching the bags, the breeze cools you off. Most importantly, the air is never stale with that sweaty scent that lingers at other enclosed gyms. The mood at this club is very family oriented and comfortable. You end up making new friends and having a great time. The only reason I deducted one star was because some of the staff can be brusque(some may even say rude!) But I ignore them and enjoy everything else. If you live in Hawaii Kai, this is an awesome place to be! read more

Oahu Club is a great place for the most part and the yoga class I attended today was excellent. THIS REVIEW IS FOR MANAGEMENT AND CUSTOMER SERVICE: The yoga class started at 8:30 and 10 minutes into it there was this very loud drilling going on in the back of the gym. The noise was so counterproductive to the class and it was difficult to hear the instructor. Many of the students just tried to push through the continuos noise, but as it got louder and louder we (students) decided to say something and ask the office to suspend the work for at least the last 45 minutes of the class. The first thing the office person said was that she can't control it and that there was nothing she could do about it----- and said that we should just go directly to the workers and ask them to stop and handle it ourselves. This is odd because members are now supposed to manage situations like this? Eventually the office lady agreed to make a call, although she needed to be convinced that it was the club's duty to do so. The noise died down slightly after tat request, but still continued in increments here and there at a softer level however as time went on the noise got progressively louder again and was full blast drilling before the class even ended. I'm just wondering why would the club be so inconsiderate of the yoga instructor and the members (the yoga class was full house too) and schedule work to be done right when a quiet class like yoga is going on. Are yoga teachers supposed to yell over the noise? The irony of it all was that when the yoga class ended, the work noise also stopped. Oahu Club Management, please pay attention to the scheduling of your noisy maintenance work-- this might work with a zumba or cardio class that has music, but with a yoga class where members have to listen to the teacher speak and follow instructions, it just simply doesn't work. Yoga is supposed to be relaxing, but you scheduled this drilling and sawing work to be done exactly at that hour? read more

To the bearded thin man with notable ears in the weight training room. Please know I am well aware of my absurd time on the bench. When I've been on it for half an hour I tend to take note and let those who have been exercising specifically around me that I'm self conscious of it and ask if they need what I'm using. Whenever people tell me themselves that they need it I leave right away with very little grievance. When you ask me how long my training time is I answer honestly atleast an hour and a half. But I will follow up promptly with a "I don't mind moving or coming back". When I deliver this line after being on the device for nearly 20 minutes that should be an amicable conclusion. It does not open you for an exchange of dialog where you say "other people need it" and accuse me of selfishness as I am out of breath and trying to be amenable. When I hear this I think to myself immediately I already said I don't mind moving since you asked. I also don't mind if people ask if they want to share. I will politely decline that proposition but will offer that person sole use of the bench. But I'd also like to point out two other areas that simulate the bench press near exactly to what I'm using and another that's the same but with hydraulic assistance. There's also the use of free weight dumbells which get it pretty close. Perhaps I'm not selfish but maybe you're being a bit lazy. I never feel this way until I hear something this accusatory and I can tell you this is the first time I've heard something this accusatory. Please understand if you feel I am taking to long that I've been training very hard for five years. And that the weight looming over my chest and skull exceeds over a 100lb my bodyweight sitting at a total of 345lb. And understand I've sustained multiple injuries currently holding sharp compressed pain and grinding in my shoulders, a sprain in my left wrist, carpal tunnel in both hands, minor numbness in some fingers, and on and off again inflammation in the cartilage by my sternum. You might say it's insane to push so much and I can't disagree. But I've dedicated a lot of my time to becoming more and the mindset of never perseverance is ingrained into me after half a decade. Please also take into account that I wear a mask the entire time. I know my routine looks absurd to most people but I try to avoid being around to many people when it can be helped and take every precaution that I can since I not only work largely with elderly clientele but my own mother is immuno compromised. That coupled with the fact I've abstained from social interactions for nearly an extremely strict three years I've put in all this work with no assistance. So when I'm pushing 345lb for 10 reps take into consideration I have no safe gaurd and do it with a mask. So if I need to catch a breath please forgive me. If seeing me exercise so long infuriates you I can't help it. But I'm more than willing to hear out an adult conversation. Also you should learn to properly place your weight back where it belongs. It's not just enough to rack items. You should learn a proper place for it as well and put it back where you find it. Post-illiad arbitrary gym review etiquette aside 5/5. read more

I only use the pools at Oahu Club although any member can use the machines. The pools are big and clean and it's a really laid back place to swim. Good for families and for serious swimmers. One of my favorite things about the Oahu Club is that they're open until 8:30 and sometimes later which helps when you work full time. Other amenities that I enjoy: dry sauna and hot tub!! read more

Do i love the Oahu club? YES Do i love the office staff? NO. The customer service is below par and they are about as helpful as a balloon in a flood. I mean, i get that everyone has a right to not be nice every once in awhile but truly they are seriously abusing the privilege. Okay so i haven't had any outstanding experiences but i haven't had any TOTALLY negative ones either. Just bitchy and not helpful staff. I still think they need a swim suit spinny-dryer thingie-I've never been to a swim club that doesn't have one. That and they need LOCKERS or to re-do the lockers BADLY. And make more so that you can bring your own lock and keep your things there. It's not fun to lug gym bags back and forth all the time. Lockers are so very badly needed. I have noticed more smiles from the office staff but they've still got a long way to go to make it something that is sought after. I'm keeping my membership and i will be updating this review until i actually have a positive experience here. PLEASE ACCEPT THE CHALLENGE. YOU HAVE THE MONEY TO MAKE THE CLUB GREAT. SO DO IT. I love this place. It is convenient because it is right down the street from where I live. I play tennis on a league here, and I also take swimming lessons. I really like this place because the other members are nice, and the staff is nice. The staff learns the names of members, and they really make you feel like you want to be there. I don't really use the gym that much. It is open air, and it's sometimes crowded after work. However, the pools are really nice and so are the tennis courts. I often go swimming at night. The club also offers "cardio" tennis classes on Tuesday nights, Thursday mornings, and Saturday mornings, which I try to attend when I don't have work. They are really fun. I think this place is great for families, but it is also great for everyone. (I am a young professional.) read more

This review is only for their swim lessons; I am not a member. Our 4 year old son has been taking swim lessons for a few months now. He takes 15 minute private lessons once a week. Luke is awesome!! He's so good with kids - patient and funny. Our son warmed up to him fairly quickly. As far as swimming goes, I was impressed that after just a few lessons, he felt confident enough to lose his arm floaties (when we go to our pool for fun). I will definitely continue with his lessons. Prices for swim lessons are thankfully reasonable, and living right around the corner is an added bonus. read more

I have only been here once, to play tennis for my USTA league team. Upon my arrival, I realized that this place was not a public park, nor were their tennis courts open for the public. Everyone had to check in at the front. I checked in as a guest of the league and walked in. Upon my entrance, I realized that this place was somewhat like a mini country club/half gym like type of place. I saw a covered area with some weights equipment and a dance area where women were doing some sort of jazzerize or modern day type of dance, perhaps zumba and another group in the pool doing some sort of dance/exercise in the pool. At the end of the pool, I could make out where I had to walk further to the tennis courts. There are about 8 tennis courts here. Usage of courts are pretty well structured as I was informed members had to sign up to use a court. As I was only here for a match, our courts were already reserved. read more

So, its that time of year. Time to work off all those martinis I had over the last month. I wanted some place close to where I live, so I could ride my bike. That meant 24-Hour Fitness or Oahu Club. Since I am violently opposed to 24-Hour Fitness, that narrowed our options considerably. Here's what I like about Oahu Club: staff, that makes me feel comfortable without hovering, heated lap pool, sauna and towel service (although spotty), and I love working out with a breeze running through the gym. There are a lot of classes for kids too, if that is important to you. There's a nice little place to chill and have a snack and chairs around the pool for when working out is just too much effort. Here's the rub: there are not a lot of machines (although there are a fair number of free weights), but I knew that before I joined, so it doesn't bother me. Honestly, my biggest peeve is that the area around the "gym" looks like it is littered with "gym refuse". Sometimes it is covered up with tarps, sometimes it isn't. I try to avert my eyes to the ducks sleeping in the marsh, but occasionally I get peeved. I mean, membership isn't cheap...think they could pick up the junk or put it in storage? I have been coming here with my family for several months now. I like the open air gym and the pools are kept very clean. You can bring your own food in which is great because we often bring our dinner down to enjoy poolside after a quick dip! But it you want to purchase a meal they have very reasonably priced options to choose from. If you have kids on an allowance - they should come here! Pool, food and a hot tub! God awful facility. NOT ADA compliant in any way. Not clean--got an infrction from the pool. Almost impossible to get a person in a wheelchair up their entry ramp as it is graded far too steeply and is made from rotting wood. The only way to get to the workout area is to go around both pools, off the sidewalk, down a grassy slope, and back up onto the sidewalk. Leaving was even worse--an "easier" method was offered, but the wheelchair got stuck in deep gravel and we had to be fished out. At this point I enquired if the club had any plans to bring itself up to ADA compliance, but was told no. According to our tour guide, there are 30 other items needing to be done before they get to any ADA compliant actions. Not acceptable. read more

Location is good, at the center of Hawaii Kai. Some staff are friendly, most are not. I wish they had recorded my conversation with a staff on the phone. She argued with me and literally told me if I didn't listen to her, she would hang up on me. Many staff there do not have patience to listen to the customers. They like us to listen and hurry up ending the conversation. Hawaii Kai needs another fitness center for all ages. They seem overwhelmed and not care for customer service. read more

Great party venue! Robin and her team were so accommodating for our daughter's first birthday. Such a good deal. They price it on the amount of guests you have and they take care of all the tables, tents, and chairs. We LOVE the Oahu Club! We really only go there for swimming, but it's so nice and relaxing to hang out by the pool. We also love the fact that you can either buy food there or bring your own snacks in. On days we are organized, we bring our own snacks for the kids. On the days we don't, we buy hamburgers or hot dogs. They are delicious! There are two pools, the one on the lower side isn't deep and perfect for parents and younger kids. The upper side pool can get pretty deep in places, even right where the stairs. I suggest you go in first to see how deep it is before taking your kid in. I'm kind of short, so can't really stand where the stairs are. Ironically enough the shallow end is on the other two sides. One by the sauna and the other by the club house. Anyway, go in first and check the depth unless you're really tall. read more

So stoked this place is right down the road! I swim laps 3x per week & get to pick either short or long course, whatever I'm feeling that morning. Both my 2 year old and 6 year old take swimming lessons here. The older one can pretty much swim (started at 2) just needs to refine his stroke. True younger one is just learning. The instructors are good and the kids seems to like them. We have a swim membership here which allows us to use the pool whenever we want...a big plus since we don't have our own. And, they allow you to bring your own food and drinks in. They also have a small snack bar (kind of expensive though). Overall, happy with it. read more

Our family has membership at the O'ahu Club and chose it for its family-friendly feeling. As with many families, life gets so hectic between work, kids' activities, and everything in between. But no matter how long we're away, The Oahu Club is like a welcoming oasis. The staff is always friendly and the atmosphere low-key and comfortable. Tatiana is a great professional and goes out of her way to make guests and members alike feel at home and special. Chef Mark has a true gift with his cooking and creations...his marlin ceviche with coconut milk is to die for, as is his pork chops with brown gravy...yum! Hubby and I enjoyed every bite! Really needs some attention - overall looks really tired, paint chipping everywhere, old/rusted gym equipment, bathrooms look like something you would find at a public beach and the furniture on the pool deck looks twenty years old. Is the club awesome for swimmers? Yes. Is it awesome for parties? Yes. Are the swim instructors great? Yes. Does the front office have any idea how or even care to provide good customer service? NO. At what point does one think it's okay to leave a follow up message when a phone call hasn't been returned for 3 weeks? According to them, never. I'm okay with my phone call not getting returned. In the past phone calls have been returned in a timely manner, so I am assuming my message got lost or forgotten about, no big deal. What I am not okay with is the front office telling a paying customer that a second message will not be taken and to just continue to wait and eventually that person will get back to me.
