I used to shop and donate here for years until I learned this is a FOR PROFIT thrift store! Profit from donations and sales do NOT go to charity! What an absolute sham and probably the reason this place is such a disaster. Overpriced junk. I have seen faded dresses from old navy go for $12.99! Additionally the last time I was in here there was a USED pad with period blood all over it in the dressing room. Disinterested and unhelpful employees. Watch out they have security cameras and the rent a cops will stop you at the door if they think you are shop lifting if they do know your rights dont let them take you to the back room and def not search you they cant by law, the security cameras are not great so they have been wrong, if you feel you are being bullied call 911 and let the cops handle it, i was accused of stealing dvds and they found nothing on me , i told the rent a cop he was making a mistake. read more

I am here almost every week, live nearby. Omg, always getting steals. I always buy a whole season of wardrobe for the kids. It's funny how my friends tell me I am always putting expensive clothes on my kids - when I tell them it's from the thrift store, they don't believe it. That's how good the clothes are. I always get a dress, some coach bags...and always spend less than $60 dollars. They always have 25% sale on Thursdays and Monday. The last sale on 12/12/12, everything was 50% percent. MyUnique is indeed a bargain hunter's paradise. This warehouse size store has everything and anything under the roof. I passed by today. It was a gorgeous Sunday afternoon, by the way, I decided to check it out. I must say, there are good prices but also I randomly found prices that didn't match the item. Fabulous brands like HM, Lane Bryant, Jones New York, among others can be found. Overall experience, it was both good and bad. I purchased a couple of items. The bad thing was the chipped china, ripped furniture, dirty and damaged clothes and linens, and even dusty appliances on the shelves. But I must say that the book selection was great. Great dirt cheap prices. Lots of vintage, beautiful jewelry. I may consider going back on a Monday. They offer 25% off entire purchase. read more

The selection is fabulous for a thrift store. With affluent Riverdale right nearby you can sometimes score some incredible finds. I purchased a Giani Bernini handbag (real leather) for about $14. (They retail approximately $75+.) I've also gotten Gap pants with the tags still on. My only complaint is the scarcity of changing rooms. There's just two and a long line often forms. However, I always walk out amazed at how much I got for so little. read more

My experience at their 234th St in the Bronx is a mixed one. The place USED TO be great to buy things but not anymore they're asking 5.99, 14.99 and up for USED tee shirts, mind you they're that much BRAND NEW! Same with the other clothing it's used and ridiculously OVERPRICED!! Plus most of the employees are nice people ...except the brown-skinned manager guy with the mustache and his female coworker a short brown-skinned woman who's also management,they're RUDE, they belittle the regular customers that spend good money every time they're in there. The people in the back pricing the merchandise barely speak English and are "out of touch" when it comes to pricing things. The place is now a joke, just like the owner who dresses like a Rock Star, drives an ugly Cadillac, carries a sidearm, and curses like an angry adolescent that's not getting any. I'd love to see where that money really goes, because its probably 5 cents to every dollar that goes to charity. .......LOSERS! read more

I went here on Halloween to find a cheap tie for my costume (Harry Potter); I had no idea this place was so enormous! I found a great clip-on tie, and would have wandered the store more if I wasn't in a rush. Everything is neatly categorized, which I appreciate, right down to the pairs of socks hanging from the wall. There seemed to be a wide variety of men's, women's and kids clothing, as well as bedding, furniture and housewares. Like I mentioned, I didn't get a good look around but I will definitely go back. Unique Thrift Stores is a chain, based in the midwest, though their website doesn't list this location. There was a sign that there are more in the area, I think mainly in the Bronx and Long Island? I like this store and would shop in it again. I usually go for the vinyl records.....and at times other stuff. I have read other reviews that say the store smells. It smells as good as the people who work in it and the people that shop in it. LOL Honestly I suffer from constant congestion....so unless the smell is horrific and strong I usually don't smell anything...and I have not in this store. Now....as for organization......they are as organized as can be....considering that in any department store.....the shoppers contribute a great deal to disorganization.....so this store is no worse than any other cheap department I have been too. read more

I absoutely love this place! It is huge and full of goodies for those like me who are addicted to thrifting. They have a section for housewares and books but the clothes and the shoes are the best :) . I would recommend setting aside a few hours just to look around but trust me it won't take you long to find something you love, they even have formal dresses and the men's clothing is just as plentiful as the women's. read more

Despite being such a large store, the selection of items is quite minimal. I went in hoping to find a cheap blazer, but was shocked to see less than 20 available in all sizes. The entire section was so small, how could anyone possibly find an article of clothing they can actually purchase? It seems that the majority of goods are very old, and the only quality items are jewelry pieces. There is some sliver of hope in the books section though. read more

This place can be a madhouse in terms of the customers that frequent the place. Obviously they are clued in on when new merchandise is to be set and go bonkers. I have never seen anything like it. They do have a wonderful selection of thrift items. I even witness several customers tugging at the same teddy bear. Sad to see that the economic times in NY has made people forget about the true humanity and not be so materialistically influenced by second hand junk sold at these thrift stores. read more

I shop at this store almost every day or at least every week. I've spent 10s of 1000s of dollars there throughout the years. But today is my last day. I had bought a handbag some time ago. I didn't realize the sensor was still on. upon bringing it back today, they asked me to produce a receipt. The sales clerk LeVanessa was very nasty to me. I thought I'd speak with the store manager and he refused as well. So since I only had to produce a receipt and a sales ticket, I brought them from my car. Le'Vanessa snatched the ticket and the receipt from me. Although, the customer service from Le'Vanessa has always been poor towards me, the other employees were always so nice. So i continued shopping there. But today was the straw that broke the camels back. With Le'Vanessa screaming at me and the store manager not reprimanding her, I am so done. I refuse to shop at any of their stores any longer or even their subsidiaries (Value City or Savers). Although, they refused to take the censor off, Le'Vanessa wanted to take the bag back and return my money so that she could reprice the bag at a higher price. It'a personal because I know that Le'Vanessa gives certain customers an inside connect to designer bags, luggage, and shoes. When I'm standing at the front counter to see bags, she'll rush me and give bags to others who speaks her language first. I'm not a seller, I was just shopping for my own bemusement. Thank God I've never needEd to shop there. All the other stores were nice though. I would tell anyone not to shop there above all the other stores. Go to the other ones. If they can allow Le'Vanessa to treat their great customers in such a way, they don't deserve customers like me any longer. I called to speak to the store manager, and he left me on hold for 30 minutes and then he hung up. That's why I'm posting this here because obviously no one cares. read more

I visited this shop for the first time on Thursday. I didnt read the sign on the door and ended uo bringing my cart in the dressing room. ( As I'd seen many others doing. ) Half way through changing I noticed feet very close to my stall as If someone was standing there. I happened to be on the phone so I didn't realize that someone was talking to me. It was security. Rudely me telling me the cart could not be in there and I had to take it out. As I bent over taking off a pair of pants I was trying on I noticed he was looking under the stall! I instantly opened the door and pushed out the cart .He was very rude and summoned a female to search the room! All while I stood there without pants. I went to complain to a supervisor, while complaining be began to argue with me saying that he was looking under the stall to ensure I wasnt stealing. The supervisor literally did nothing! She said "Okay" and walked off. I felt obligated to call the cops. At this point I felt uncomfortable so I called my boyfriend to wait with me. While waiting for the police ( I never left the corner I was standing in.) He approached my boyfriend and I asking "Whats the problem?", this started a huge argument .After waiting for an hour. The cops finally came. They showed the cops the footage but unfortunately the cops didnt feel as if I could file a harassment complaint. They admitted that their policies were horrible and suggested me to contact better business beaurea. Stay away from this place! read more

I agree that this is not a 'hipster' thrift store. It's a great place for basics. I recently went with my 9-year-old son looking to see if they might have a nice flower vase to give as a gift. No. But then we bought him an extremely nice down vest ($7), a Gap down jacket for winter ($14 I think) and also a slightly worn but nice-looking blue blazer that fit him perfectly ($7). I easily would have paid $100+ to buy the items new at Target or Marshalls. A great place for every-day stuff for kids. read more

Unique has organization of clothing by size and access to dressing rooms: 1 star. However, style factor is also a 0 here which means there is nothing worth trying on. Consequently, no star for quality of merchandise. Unique has nonexistent bargain intensity: 0 star because the pricing is high and inconsistent. Apparently, the corporation gives managers the discretion to set prices on individual items based on whether it is a name brand. So all ignorant label happy poor people will essentially pay half the retail price for worn out logos. Basically, if you have to shop at a thrift store, this place is overpriced for you and your family. If you shop at thrift stores to find cool stuff at bargain prices, you won't find it here. read more

Great place to find cheap clothes or any kind of halloween costume. I bought all my 80s stuff here last year and everything cost me like 15$. Very well organized too, you wont find yourself rummaging through piles of crap like in a lot of other thrift stores. They have clearly marked sections for everything so things are easy to find. They have a parking lot too which is aweomse, it was full when i went there though. I would even say its worth a trip from the city! (Granted i live around the corner). read more

This is quite possibly the best thrift shop in the Bronx. I just love this store! What really separates this store from the rest is its organization. Everything is neatly sorted and labeled. All of the stuff is on hangers, hooks or nicely displayed on shelves. You definitely won't find yourself digging through bins or or large piles of junk on tables. It looks like the staff really inspects the merchandise before putting it on the sales floor. Almost all of the merchandise is in really good condition - you won't find tattered or stained items. I love the jewelry department. They have tons of vintage pieces at reasonable prices. read more

A great thrift store the size of a warehouse. They have entire sections for something another thrift store would only have one of: suspenders, fanny packs, etc. Great prices. Great ladies' bags. One of the most fun parts is they take assorted junk and put it in baggies that hang from the shelves. They have dressing rooms. They have vintage as well as regular clothes. Yes this Unique has fabulous stuff. However I went here on Father's Day thinking that they were going to have a discount. The first thing that I heard was an announcement saying there is no discount today everything is full price. Many people left after they heard the announcement but I decided to stay and see what I can find. I spied this blouse which had the Original price tag on it $19.99. I then looked at what Unique was selling it for 19.99. The prices in Unique are really not that reasonable compared to thrift stores like Goodwill and Salvation Army. Plus those s stores give discounts every day. It's your choice of course but if you have to save go elsewhere but if you don't mind paying a more then stick with Unique. read more

Love, love this place! Hands down the best thrift store in NYC. Thanks to its location in the Bronx, few hipsters or yuppies shop here, which is why they have such great stuff, not picked over like at Housing Works! People from Riverdale donate regularly to this place, and it shows. I never know what I'll find - vintage 1970s toys, books that are still on the NY Times bestseller lists ($2 versus $25 retail) and designer clothes.
