I couldn't have been more relieved and excited that the young mothers were literally taking the books i donated. The coordinator Ruth is responsive and fabulous to communicate with on donations. She really cares about getting the resources the residents need. Also if you donate what they need , you are donating directly to the people who need the items. It goes on right on the table and they start taking what they want. My heart melted as i discussed which books I recommend for reading I will be back because I promised CDs and DVDs and i also now know they need diapers. Please donate if you are able to

My holy grail item was a $200 rapidograph pen set from 1994 that was listed for $5. They also have decent 35mm film cameras. They have decent collection of books but I always find a person who is checking prices on their phone of valuable books to resell. They block the selection and will be there for a long time and you have to be assertive to get them out the way. I dont like how packed it is between aisles and people will walk around with empty carts and you have to squeeze through. They should have handled buckets instead of pull carts with wheels. The staff at checkout is a bit useless. You have to scan each item yourself and load them to your bag yourself. They only stand there watching you for security measures to make sure you scan each item.

They also have a thrift shop that has plenty of assortment of clothing, footwear, books and a bunch of other nik naks for the home or office . You might find something useful or maybe not but you got to do the browse walk around to see . Workers are not the nicest folks but they do let you browse freely ..After dropping off my boxes , I did find a few books in the mystery genre and a small table clock that looks gothic and spooky . Prices are reasonable and stuff is in overall good condition. Glad I stopped by , 4 stars on my yelp meter .

But what I like about this thrift store is that you can still get your junkin' on. Like they say- "one person's trash is another person's treasure". I didn't come across a blue door- but from what it looks like, Blue Door Thrift Shop has 2 entrances with one of them being right by their parking lot around the corner. Actually I saw a blue door.... inside (@~_@~). Racks are neat, glass display cases hold costume jewelry and there's one fitting room about the size of a child's arm span. In addition to the thrift store part, there's also an indoor "flea market" in an adjoining room with "vendors" selling fabric and more knick-knacks. All in all I like my funky finds plus Blue Door's price point means you can buy a few pieces and not break the bank. I got to wet my toes- so until next time.

Lady was at the door, I am assuming she was the owner and said they were closed and to give her a few minutes. We give her about 15 minutes, we waited in the vestibule that is connected to the place. When we came back she let us in and said that they had a party last night so we might have to step over some things... partial understatement. She directs us to a white door and says that it goes all the way down. Found along the trail of stuff some cool converse...$30 -couple bucks more and I can go to DSW and get them brand new. Walking down the aisle (hallway) there's a dark room, intrigued and hoping to find some huge room, I search for the lights. Find 2 of the 3 without getting electrocuted. This room is the size of my living room and stuff is everywhere. If there is a secret lair of furniture somewhere, the lady was uninterested in us finding it. She was too busy cleaning up the party from last night... none of it made sense. It was pretty grungy in there all around, I can't imagine having a party there either. Probably will never go there again. The furniture pictures were a bit taunting. :( so damn disappointed.

I spoke with Oscar the week before to confirm I could drop off this Wednesday 9am-1pm. I arrive at the building (930) and ask the doorman (Juan) if the bottomless closet was in this building. He said yes but that no one was there. I explained that I confirmed the day and time. I put the bags down to call and see if I can get someone on the line. He immediately said NO YOU CANNOT WAIT HERE and grabs his radio as if he was going to call someone else for backup?? Extremely rude and hostile. I live in a doorman building in midtown and have never seen them act like this when receiving guests. I understand the need to keep the space open with covid but it took me less than 5 minutes to contact Oscar. I walked all the way from 10th for this reception. Never again. I'll be looking for other places to donate clothing and will make sure to pass along the message.

Bottomless Closet is a non-profit organization that helps disadvantaged women in NYC get…read moreprofessional jobs. They are a woman led organization that offers help in interviewing skills, allows women to get free business clothing for interviews and helps them learn how to function in a professional workplace. The goal is for the women to become self-sufficient, an aim I can certainly get behind. One of the things Bottomless Closet does is take clothing donations for women from the general public. I recently stopped by here to donate business clothing that was too big on me. There are a number of things I like about this organization: 1. They have their public records available online so you can review where any financial donation you give goes to. I did not see corporate greed when I investigated. 2. They are a local charity helping local women. I firmly believe charity begins at home & for those who feel likewise, this seems a good place to take respectable business clothing that no longer fits. 3. The staff I dealt with were polite, friendly and informative, particularly the woman I spoke to on the phone before dropping off my clothes. I did not get the attitude that my clothing donation meant nothing to them & they just wanted to get money. They have a high demand for plus sizes but the woman I spoke to said my size 5-7 items would be appreciated. 4. They have evening hours on Tuesday evenings so if you do not have time to do their regular clothing drop off (Monday-Thursday from 9-5 p.m.), you can call and arrange a drop off then. Now, it IS a little tricky to get here but all you have to do is go into the Hotel Pennsylvania and take the elevator to their suite (a lower level from the main floor). They have tax forms right at the front desk and they will let you leave the clothing right there. Another important detail: you can NOT get clothing here unless you are one of their clients. This means whatever you donate will actually go to a woman in NYC who needs it. They also DO NOT take men's clothing. This is STRICTLY women's business clothing. I may end up donating more items here if I can't get alterations on some things that I've never or rarely been able to wear.
