The Myth...Okay I'm really reviewing ZZ Top... This is a continuation of Kate and my Kid Unfriendly Tour. Also known as places we want to go to were Kids shouldn't be invited. * The Myth I had never been here, and wasn't sure what to expect. From the outside you think Wow impressive on the inside you think the metrodome bathrooms. It's all concrete and lacks any character. It's great that you can still see a general admission concert, one that you all crowd the floor trying to get close to the stage. Kate and I usually stand and dance anyway. The bar selection is weak, I have had better choices at outdoor beer tents. Really $7 for a Mich Golden Light bottle poured into a cheap plastic cup. At least We didn't need to pay for parking, for that you get Kudos. They do have a great sound system. So for the right band, the sound system, general admission, and free parking I would make the long haul to the Myth again. * The Opening Band I never heard what their name was. The band was great, very talented, the lead singer not so much. It was just kind of weird she is the daughter of one of the guitarist. Her stage show has her strutting around like Tina Turner, spiked heels and the same kind of short frilly dress. It was just odd. They need to get a different lead singer and put her as a backup singer. * ZZ Top Totally Fun! Hey Duck Dynasty! you're just a bunch of ZZ Top wanna be's! Nobody sports flower embroidered, sequin studded, jackets like ZZ Top. If you can't stand today's Boy Bands, ZZ Top is a Man Band. They paid their dues and are still touring after 40 years. They played new songs, some really old songs and most of their Hits. They even did a few covers. I wish they would have played longer because, 1 hour and 20 min was way too short. It was nearly not worth the money but for only $35, I can deal with being short changed. Plus where else can you see fuzzy white guitars. We were only 10 "rows" back from the stage, you might think that's close but with the Beer guts it wasn't as close as you might think. They Myth...only 2 stars, sorry... Beautiful venue. The look of the inside is very club like and well put together unlike other clubs like it (i.e. Epic/Aqua). The staff are very helpful and well minded. Drinks are strong and tasteful much like the bartenders. I would defiantly recommend VIP if it's available especially for a sold out show. Great parking options and convenient Days Inn behind venue. Comparing this venue to other ones I've been in, this was a very pleasant experience. Good atmosphere and people! Dada Life put on a great show and had good openers. Driving five and a half hours to see a show here turned out to be a great idea. Can't wait to visit again. read more

My daughter and her friends had a great time here. They saw lil skies. It was extremely safe; and for parents who are questioning letting their children go, you have nothing to worry about! I've also been there numerous times, the bars are off limits, and the security guards are all so nice! I'm sure kids- and adults would all have a nice and fun time! Hope this helps!! read more

Waiting in the cold for about an hour. Watching all the fights break out, having people who didn't purchase luxury suites push and force their way in. Security did the best they could for taking care of the fighting but for the amount of people in this venue I felt very unsafe, watching at least 4 fights break out in less than two hours. Will probably choose an actual concert venue vs going to a night club. So much booze people are bound to get out of hand. I guess I was happy I had a luxury suite vs being in general admission where all the fights seemed to take place. Makes a person wonder how they would handle an actual emergency, such as a fire, or shooting at this establishment as it was not very organized. Seemed sketchy to say the least in my opinion. This venue is very cool, however, a lady harassed my friend and I before entering. We were exploring the area and trying to find a place to set down our belongings while trying to figure out the venue and our meet up area, and this lady came up to us and said word for word "what the FUCK are you doing" and was so unbelievably rude and mean. We are two small women trying to figure out our plans for the nights and this lady is security gear is screaming at us even when I explained calmly what we were doing. She was near close to physically touching us and tore us down with this verbal language. It was unprofessional and uncalled for, don't work at such a fun venue if you have a stick up your ass! Just about as good as it gets for a venue of its size. Lines were managed well, and lots of good options for viewing the show as long as you planned well and decided to come before doors opened. The sound was amazing - the best I've experienced. I didn't notice any sort of crazy security guards. They were thorough and I didn't give them any problems so I didn't get any. Everything was really clean, especially compared to The Cabooze or First Avenue. I'm taking a star because I can see how it would have really sucked had we gotten there even 15 minutes later. My group was on the balcony and they just had that place PACKED. Oversold, no doubt. I'm sure most people on the first level couldn't see anything. Positives - This is the best venue for concerts. It's in a great part of town. All of my favorite artists and bands play at the myth, the staff handles things well (most times) and it's a very easy venue to find a good spot so that everyone can see. The merch booth is a convenient location and the line usually runs very smooth and quickly. It provides great sound and has a very fun and kid friendly atmosphere, so kids do not need to be afraid to go. They have enough bars so that lines don't form too long & quick service. Free parking as well. Negatives - Waiting outside sucks in the cold especially when the GA line moves very slowly. Doors never open when tickets say so (usually 5-15 minutes late). At a sold out show or almost sold out shows get packed so it's hard to maneuver around the venue, but people are usually friendly if you say excuse me, the outside & inside is dirty and the floor is sometimes sticky with beer, and the bartenders are sometimes impatient and rude (although I know it gets busy and we all have bad days) My experiences at the myth are perfect. The negatives aren't all that bad because the positives out shine them. It's given you'll have an amazing time at the myth and it's the safest venue in Minnesota. You'll have loads of great times if you start going to the myth. I didn't love it the first time but the more you go the more it warms up to you. I've been to the myth 7 times and will be returning for an 8th, and surely more after that. I'm excited to see what the future holds for this venue. I guarantee your satisfaction read more

Completely oversold. Luckily I'm 6'3" so I can see over people, otherwise there is no chance. They literally need to sell about half the tickets and just raise the price on the remaining, so their revenue is consistent. I've been here twice and never going back. Took my 16 year old son to the Myth on April 19, 2014 to see Chevelle. We were a bit worried about going there after reading these reviews. However, the venue was great! Stood just next to the sound guys and were able to sit down between shows. The sound was amazing there. There had to be a sub behind us in the wall cuz our bodies were thumping pretty good. My son plays guitar and I play drums to this type of music so I can attest to whether or not the sound was good. IT WAS GOOD! This was my first visit there so I have no idea how it is on club nights but as for a concert venue, it was as expected. A little better than expected after reading the reviews here. The good: Bands! Nothing More was awesome to watch! Chevell didn't disappoint. Sound was excellent! The Bad: Cheep booze out of a gun and was expensive. By the looks of the floor afterwards, they sold some. However, if they lowered their a little and carried a better selection, they would increase their sales by a lot. I normally drink a few at concerts but their current setup only got one drink out of me. We'll go again if there is a must see band. read more

I am normally a HUGE fan of The Myth. I will continue to see shows there! They do have their downsides however. First of all, after last nights show, Lindsey Stirling & Dia Frampton, I've decided to never see another all ages show there again. The lack of A/C which is ALWAYS an issue there, got 10 times worse last night. TOO many kids, too many non drinkers making a lot less movement. So much so that people were passing out. I've never had to be packed into any venue to the point of sharing sweat with the person next to me. We were so jammed in there that the person next to you had their shoulder in the middle of your chest, and so on and so forth down the line. There was ZERO movement for over 3 hours. With that being said, it is still one of the best places to see a show. It's got great views no matter where you are standing. There are places to sit, or attempt to sit before you pass out, however you will never see the show from them. You can get VIP, but every time I try, it's at least $1500 PLUS bottle service. Closer to $5k a lot of the time when you ask them the night of the show. Any successful businesses I know would lower the price to sell the product to make money and earn customer loyalty, perhaps some day they will learn. The sound system is top of the line and I have never been disappointed. With dozens of shows and decent prices, why not check it out. I can only hope that they stop maxing out the capacity so that people can breath in there. Also...work on that A/C situation please!! Bartenders situation...yes...there is always an issue with that. Keep in mind, unless you have been a bartender at a place like this, you will not understand. You work the bar from one end to the next, with over 25 people screaming at you from all directions and 3-4 bartenders behind each bar, it is NOT an easy task. SO I challenge you folks who complained about getting a drink to attempt it for even 1 hour, and you'll see things from an entirely different view. They have 3 bars to get a drink, and if you are a drinker, be patient, polite and deal with it. You may think you're the most important person there, however you are not! Security. I have had many situations with them there and have never had an issue. Again, unless you have to deal with sweaty abusive drunks every night for your employment, you won't understand. Their job is to keep the place calm, safe and not to be "your friend". What do you people expect? I'm sure there is a huge difference between concert nights and club nights however their job remains the same. If you are a decent person, you shouldn't have an issue with them. If you are drunk or an entitled little brat, I can see how you would complain. Every time I have left there they have all of the main doors in the front of the building open. In case of emergency there are many other exits, however yes, their goal is to funnel you through the front doors. They need to make sure you aren't taking any alcohol out with you, and also there are always cops standing outside to deal with any problem people or issues. There is one thing that has always bothered me, and that is the "panic" aspect. Even with plenty of exits, (your job to find them no matter where you are) the amount of people that they pack in there and the fact that they will serve you until you are falling on the floor, leads me to believe that if in fact there was even an emergency in there, people would most likely be trampled to death. read more

I was here for the Melanie Martinez concert and the only good part was Melanie herself. The concert experience was horrible overall and I wouldn't want to go to this venue again. Everyone around me said that this was a bad experience also. The staff was very rude and made us feel unwelcomed and that we were just wasting their time. I'll start off by the tickets. I bought the VIP tickets, it only said information about the getting the suite and stuff like that. not only till a week later that I checked the website for the info again, they said that it did not include meet & greets. It did not say that when I bought my ticket. The tickets were $90. We were very confused because the ticket says VIP but we thought it was also VIP for Melanie. We ended up just going into the GA line which we could've spent $30 on, but instead we spent $90 for everything that a GA ticket could've gotten us because we didn't want the suites. They shoulve labeled the ticket "VIP Suite" or something that clearly only means it's for the suite because is mislead us for something we thought that we bought. we were very upset because that was all of our Christmas money we used to by it. For scanning the tickets, it was very unorganized and unprofessional. The scanner seemed to be broken, so they just took everyone's tickets instead and looked at the peoples phones really quick if it was an electronic ticket. someone could of copied a ticket and got in for free if they wanted too. Doors opened at 6:30. It was 45 degrees outside and absolutely freezing. They told us we had to get rid of our blankets and everything by 4:45, then they'd pat us down. we had to stand in the cold for an hour and a half with nothing but ourselves. I was one of the first people in line and had to be there for 8 HOURS. Then even better, they told everyone to squish around the all of the doors until 6:30. So someone that could've gotten to the venue 5 minutes before the doors opened could've been at the front of the door. It was so unfair. Everyone was so packed in, it was so uncomfortable & it was like that for an hour and a half. When the doors finally opened, everyone PUSHED so badly that I couldn't move at all and that could've hurt someone, being slammed into a stranger like that. This should never go like how it did. they shoulve had everyone stay in the spots they were in and let people in a little and a time so that people did not have to be ambushed and trampled by other people. While we were in the venue standing, everyone was SO close that everyone's elbows were pressing on each other that I couldn't breathe. There was so much shoving and pushing going on throughout the whole show, it never really stopped. People almost fell down and there were people shoving just to get in front, it was so horrible. There's rude & selfish people everywhere an you can't control that, but this also happened because Myth always over sells their tickets so they have to squeeze everyone in until people can't breathe. I don't recommend this place and I don't think I'll be wanting to go here again. read more

STAY AWAY! Terribly venue, really hope bands review these prior to booking. Do not stop at MYTH move to another venue that is more established and knows how to run a concert. Terrible sound and sight lines and the worst customer service ever. If you want to stand outside in the cold get used to it as the venue is even colder as they leave doors open for smokers. BAD VENUE FOR LIVE MUSIC. Went to the Prince show tonight, 5/25. They oversold the $100 tickets ($114 with convenience fee). We could not find anyplace to stand to see the stage. Stayed for 4 songs. Never saw Prince. Never even saw the band. Went to the box office after the second song to ask for a refund and was introduced to the head of security who said that he was not authorized to give a refund but that I could upgrade our tickets and perhaps then we could see. I said that for $100 I expected to get a glimpse of the stage. He agreed, said he empathized but refused to help. I asked if instead of a refund he would point out anywhere in the $100 section that we might view the stage. He said he had already looked and there was no way to see the stage. Another nice touch was that they had all video monitors turned off, apparently at Prince's request. We could not even watch the show on TV. The microphone feedback was the only distinguishing memory of the few songs I heard. The Myth seems more like a nightclub/bar where one goes to listen to a DJ, buy bottles of over priced vodka and act like a "player". It is one of the worst live music venues to which I've been. I'm a big Prince fan. I saw him at the Dakota a couple of months ago. Great show, great hospitality, great venue. However, since I suspect Prince's company produced this show I'm done giving the Purple One any more of my money. As for the Myth, they can't go out of business (again) soon enough. read more

I took my daughter to see a Slayer/Testament show recently at the Myth. The show was ridiculously oversold, there was no place in the entire club to go that you could get any sort of view of the band. There were people 3 and 4 deep at the bar, railings, merch booth, the bathrooms, everywhere you went. I talked to many other people in the crowd that were disgusted that they couldn't see the show. What little we saw of the concert we watched on the video monitors but eventually got tired of being bumped into by everyone and left about halfway through. It was not an enjoyable outing for either one of us and I will never go back to the Myth to see a show again. read more

avoid at all costs. i saw dropkick murphy here. wonderful performance sound was good. lines to get in well run and fast. parking was an issue. didnt want to pay to park so found a public library down the street. brisk 5 min walk. that is when any and all praise stops. they drasticly over booked the show. the place was teaming with people. no movement in any spot. took 15 min to walk end to end threw the mess. bathrooms had handtowles piled up and flung around an hour before the opener. i will not be going to this venue again. it was a dangerous fire hazzard. read more

Slow getting in, expensive drinks in tiny little cups...Great time until towards the end of the night....someone pulled the fire alarm so I evacuatated ( duh what half sensible person wouldn't) when I found out it was fake I tried to re enter and was bullied into submission by " Dave" and when I demanded to speak to a supervisor or a refund...."Dave" all of a sudden got a promotion and was head honcho on the block. I've waited a long time to finally see my favorite band (Dropkick Murphy's), and although they put on one hell of a show, the venue was by far the worst venue I've ever attended. I can overlook the 20 minutes it took to get a drink, and even the rude overworked staff, but they over sold tickets to this sold out show to the point that it was impossible to move. Getting to the restrooms was impossible, and enjoying the concert was next to impossible because everyone was so squished together. I'll never return to this venue again. Spend the extra money and catch your favorite band at the next city so you can enjoy yourself. read more

I attended the Myth for a concert and was quite impressed with how big the venue was. That is where the impression ended. We were there to see Cute Is What We Aim For, the band right before that act. Automic love letter had ordered the crowd to mosh.....if I am not mistaken you can't really mosh to sappy rock love songs. I left the crowd because they were pushing, not even two minutes later the band stopped playing and ordered that my husband be thrown out because a female had decked him. Security was unable to answer questions, they refered me to the manager. Upon speaking with the manager on the phone that night we were told that security had lied to us and that there were not 100 + security cameras persent. We were told to call the Maplewood Police, which we did and they basically said that it was the Wild Wild West inside and since they brought so much revenue into the city they turn a blind eye. We were there with our fourteen year old daughter and three of her friends. The amount of drugs that were being passed around was outrageous. I would not attend another event at this venue. read more

Not even close to enough parking and it was pouring rain tonight, but they wouldn't let anyone bring in umbrellas, nor did they have a coat check available, it was either walk back across the street to the mall and leave the umbrella in the car or throw it away, plus the lines coming in the door 40 min after doors opened were moving slow, leaving everyone out in the rain. Absolutely no consideration for their customers. I will never give them another cent - I'm staying away from all events here from now on. read more

I've definitely been to much better places than Myth! So far, I've only been there once to see DJ Steve Aoki perform. The performance was really cool, though the venue is pretty bad. No matter where you stand there, you're in the way of someone. Plus, some of the people who worked there seemed a little bit rude. Tried to see NSP on Oct. 19. Worst venue ever. Took over an hour in line before gaining entrance. Should have tipped me off to the size of the crowd they were packing in there. And they just kept pushing them in. Those lucky enough to get inside before the crowd took every available spot to see the stage. I tried to stand and look over someone's shoulder but I'm too short. Tried looking for better viewing but the crowds were too thick. I went into the back and stood at the corner of the bar to watch the show on the crap displays and the bartender yelled at me that I couldn't stand at the bar unless I was ordering. There was literally no where else to go. We left. They sold tickets well beyond capacity and then some. It was a blatant scam to get money with no regard for any of the attendees and what their experience at the show would be. This place is not built to host concerts. The floors are flat and the are pillars in the way, no seating, etc. It's nothing more that a bar. Don't waste your money. read more

Myth is the worst night club in the twin cities hands down. If you wanna have a better night go to the gay 90s. For starters the ticket to the last show (not sold out show) was $70. Their prices are always expensive. The floor setting is the worst you can't see unless you fight someone to be in the front. And expect a drink to be dumped on you due to over crowded because they over sell shows. They have a balcony but half the shows at the venue don't even have it open. The security is the worst of any venue in the south metro at several shows. One chased down my friend screaming at her wouldn't stop following us saying she couldn't bring in her small bag. The website said nothing about a restriction of a small bag. We ended up being able to bring the bag in and got harassed for no reason!!! At the end the security was literally pushing people out and I saw one guard push a girl with a door by opening it and pushing her in the back and telling her to move when she couldn't even move forward due to overcrowding!! The drinks are always overpriced and the coat check line is a shit show. People were hanging their jackets and setting them around because the coat check sells out! Every time I go to the venue I regret it and waste way to much money on tickets to not have fun! read more

Whenever an artist comes to my state to perform I just hope to god it's not at the Myth. It's a 45 minute drive for me whereas the venues in the Twin Cities are only a 20 minute drive. Here's my experience there: Before I get there I went to the nearest gas station (A 10 minute drive away) to get a big bottle of water because I know from experience water is crucial at these events. I get there and the only good thing about it is free parking but their parking lot was full so I actually had to park in a stores parking lot which was also packed. I attempt to go in and the security tells me I can't bring water in. I said what??? I already know it's gonna be extremely hot and sweaty in there people pass out all the time in mosh pits for being too hot and dehydrated. Telling me I can't have water is a legitimate safety concern. So I try going in with my water and I get yelled at again and I get yelled at (keep in mind it's a sealed water bottle so there's no chance of it being alcohol or another liquid.) so I chug as much water as I can and enter the venue. It's EXTREMELY packed and the show hasn't even started yet. I try going in the mosh pit but there's people lined up all the way up the steps and out of it. Once the pre show starts people start moving around and I'm finally able to sneak myself in the back. I work my way up as far as I can and it's just ridiculously packed. Me and my friends have been to multiple concerts before where it's been tight, but this was ridiculous, people were falling over in huge wave like dominos and there was nothing you could do to stop it. People were screaming and yelling and fighting like crazy and before the main show even started, a few people passed out. I lasted about 30 min in there before I started feeling lightheaded. I tried to make my way out of the pit but that was just as much of a nightmare as making my way to the front. I finally get out and make my way to the bar where they charge me 3$ for a standard size water bottle!!! That's ridiculous especially considering you can't bring your own water in! No wonder people were passing out from dehydration. I get back in the pit and the main show starts and 5 minutes in... THE MICROPHONE STOPS WORKING... are you kidding me it wasted a good 30 minutes of the performance, unbelievable I never want to go here again. read more

I was thinking about heading all the way to Maplewood to buy tickets to the Dropkick Murphy's still available at the boxoffice. Then I noticed a post on the event page about the show being cancelled. I scrolled down and it was a mess of people saying it was and no it's not and getting heated and nasty. My brother wound up drinking at the bar with the Dropkick Murphy's before their show once around the time my Grandfather passed away. We have so much respect for this man that I guess my brother's stories made an impression and they dedicated a song to him during their set. This has always given this band a special place in my heart so I was horrified to see their event being turned into a troll ground for a bunch of entitled, suburban teenagers. I posted that this band deserved more respect, and that all the misinfo should be deleted - so customers don't get the wrong info. I also called the manager to let her know. The manager said there was no way to delete these posts. I went to the pages I manage to see if this was true. I've never had to delete a post before, but tried it and it was easy. I found a link online with detailed instructions and went back to the event to post it - I had been banned from the event. It gave me a message that the event had been cancelled. I checked on my boyfriends phone and my comment was gone, but all the posts saying the event was cancelled were still there. I called management back to let her know that it was easy to delete posts and actually better, because if people (like me) who care about the band get banned it tells them the event is cancelled and that's how these rumors get started. She hung up on me. I decided that they are running an operation too overgrown and commercial yet entirely done wrong - with a bad attitude and lack of caring for real bands. I will no longer be attending tonight or ever again. I would much rather see a band in a total dive anyway, and the lowest budget, dirtiest punk venues out-class Myth on respect for the artists and their clientele by a measure that puts sell-out Myth to shame.
