Known as the oldest bar in Minnesota, Neumanns is an institution in the Saint Paul area. There is a certain charm and character to this local dive bar that I just couldn't get enough of. The space is low lit and filled with plenty of wood and historic fixtures with a small cooktop in the back and a patio off to the side. I stopped in on a Monday durning happy hour to enjoy their half price burger special and a few beverages. The burgers are said to be famous and I was excited. Now, don't go getting your expectations too high. This is a BAR burger that uses what looks to he a frozen patty and pretty generic toppings. However, it is made with a lot of love and honestly tasted fantastic. And on HH, my burger was $5.75. Seriously can't beat that. I also ordered a few whisky sodas on HH at the unbelievable prices of $2.50 a piece. That is simply unheard of. Happy hour offers $1 off drinks so even at full price you are looking at $3.50. ZERO price gouging here. If you are into small, local, dive bars this is the spot to go. I would absolutely recommend this place and certainly will be back.

Their specials are amazingly low priced (as is their regular menu). Love their Coney Dogs (on special 3 days a week for $8.50 for 2 dogs and fries) and the M-F burger basket for $8. This place is a classic bar, the oldest continuously operating bar in Minnesota I believe. Decor is classic, has a tin ceiling, classic beer signs and the like. It can get really busy at times, super crowded l, as a random Saturday where I went in for Coney Dogs- the place was overflowing with bikers standing all over the place. It can also get really loud- I felt like I probably got hearing damage from the raucous noice levels of the bikers. The place is great overall. Staff is friendly, decent selection of beers mostly focused on people pleasing domestics and some craft beers (they are in the Pub Pass too). Check it out for some tasty bar food, just be aware you may have to change your mind and walk across the street to Mac's if the place is elbow to elbow busy.

Another stop on our PubPass tour. We golfed at Keller and decided to try out Neumann's. The beer was good but be aware that the beer is not their own brew. We opted for burgers and they were fantastic. I had a burger with fried onions. Husband had the Jim Neumann burger (appropriately). He chose tots (extra charge) and I had the standard fries. Fries where the skinny crispy version and they were great. We sat on the patio which was perfect. There was a nice breeze keeping the patrons cool. Service was good. Parking was easy. Great dinner after a round of golf.

I went here with Debra R, Jose R and a couple of people a few days ago. I got the cheeseburger with cheese curds on the side. Debra R got a burger with a salad. Jose R got a burger with fries. and the people in the group also got burgers with fries. The food was pretty good. The cheese curds were a bit oily and not crunchy enough. The inside was still pretty.

Worth the trip to say you have been to the oldest bar in Minnesota. Fun place to visit with great casual bar food specials. Nothing fancy or pretentious here, just an old bar with a neighborhood vibe. Lots of regulars. Great service and cheap beers. You can't go wrong with the basics. Bonus experience hitting a $500 pull tab winner

First time visit. My wife and I have always wanted to check our due to her maiden name being the same (no relation) I tried the fish tacos and my wife had the regular tacos. Both of us enjoyed the food. A new twist is that before COVID-19, Neumanns did not accept credit cards. Now with the acceptance of credit cards, there is a fee added for using a credit card. I definitely will go back to try some more of the menu.

We stopped in here specifically because it is the oldest bar in Minnesota. We had driven in from Milwaukee, so we were pretty tired & didnt stay long. It is a very cool old bar, very friendly place, beers were cold ,we didn't eat but food looked tasty. It has an outdoor patio area also.

African bullfrogs, vintage pictures, $2 drinks from 2-4, great burgers

I love a 'no-bullsh*t' bar. No ego, no pretentiousness, no frills. Just tried-and-true beers and bar food in a cozy wooden cabin bar.

We arrived early at 4 PM on a Sunday afternoon so the place was not yet packed. By the time we left at 5:30 most of the tables indoors were full. You wait for the hostess to seat you. We took a hightop. They have a big outdoor patio area, but it was 90° that day so we opted to stay inside. Service was great and friendly and fast. Our Party ordered the following: Nashville fried chicken - chicken was crispy and just a little bit spicy. It was a bit greasy, but that is expected. The server said it was their best sandwich. That's my jam - this had cream cheese and habanero, bacon jam, but we couldn't really taste the habanero. But it was good nonetheless. Campfire burger - two of our Party ordered this and they thought the combination of the peanut butter with a spicy lingonberry jam was really good. The chips that come with the sandwiches are amazing. Don't even think of switching to something else. I also had the bloody Mary, which was a good mix, but not very spicy. I was wondering why they gave me Tabasco on the table. The burgers are huge, maybe a third or a half pound of beef and well worth the price. Overall, it is worth the 40 minute drive to White Bear Lake and won't mind stopping by if we were in the area again.

This particular location is actually Golden Corral buffet. Not off to a great start. To get your food you need to walk all the way to the back and ask for you order from someone manning the grill. A little clumsy to say the least. We ordered the chicken tender sandwich, Chandler style burger, seasoned fries and chocolate chunk cookie. Of all these items only the burger was passable. Actually, it was pretty good. Perhaps overly salty, but a very decent rendition of a smash burger. They charge you $0.25 for ketchup (!) which I politely passed on and added myself at home. The burger gets a thumbs up. Stop reading here if you don't want this story to take a turn for the worse. The chicken tender sandwich had thick breading which made it a chore to bite into. The chicken itself was good quality and tender but the breading was a problem. The sandwich added pickles, mayo and shredded lettuce, all of which were forgettable. The seasoned fries were crinkle cut and ok but unremarkable. The seasoning added a tiny bit of spice and not much else. As for the cookie, it was an astounding $3 and hard as a rock. I don't know how you make a cookie like this but I had a bite and threw it out. Ick. In sum, $27 for a very iffy meal with no drink and had to pick it up. I could have paid $10 at Arby's and felt like I had a better experience. Putting this "place" in a buffet restaurant isn't a great idea either. Jimmy's a pretty inventive guy but this isn't his finest hour. They need to have better control of these locations and how the food is being made. How do you ruin a chocolate chip cookie? The cost is pretty outrageous too. Stick with the burger.. or skip it altogether.
