I have always LOVED breakfast at Dick's, and their prices are so reasonable which is why I attached photo of the menu. Get this! Monday - Thursday they have a special: 2 eggs any style 2 slices of bacon 2 slices of toast For $2.99, AMAZING! I got there eggs benedict with their famous and very delicious hollandaise sauce. Their hash browns were the best I have ever had flavorful and done to perfection and not greasy (my biggest hash brown complaint) My friend had the burrito and said it was stuffed with sausage and veggies and big enough to feed 2. Now the only complaint I have and you really have to look past it. The tables have some type of acrylic on them which make them feel sticky and the place in general needs a good cleaning. Even the salt and pepper shaker had dirty film on them and the wood work had ketchup and other splatters and the window must have had a years of kids dirty hand marks smeared on it. I love their food so much I can get past this but think how much better reviews could be if it were cleaned up. One other minus, our waitress never asked how the food was or refill our water. But...............I will still be back over and over.

    Breakfast burrito with American fries.

I love breakfast here and it's been a while! We ordered curbside on a Sunday morning at 10:30 am. I expected a long wait, but my food was ready and walked out to my car on time at 10:40. I love the breakfast burrito with American fries. That and the breakfast sandwich in ciabatta are my go to items.

So disappointing...I'm being generous and calling them out as 3 stars. Next up on my tour of Hudson restaurants & bars was Dick's. I was excited. They're the oldest bar in Hudson. The on-line menu looked pretty good. And we got 2 referrals from local wait staff at other local restaurants. I was SO disappointed. They handed us menus but told us the only thing available off the menu was the appetizers. What??? Then they gave us a single photo copy page of the current "menu" with, basically, burgers, chicken sandwiches, & wraps. NO steaks, NO desserts, NO chicken pasta, NO Lucky Dog Mac & Cheese...NO...lots of stuff. The bartender told us they cut back on food because of COVID. And he said they have a hard time with staffing because of COVID. I know for a fact that this is a load of crap. We've been to 95% of the Hudson restaurants during the pandemic. Do you think LoLo has a photocopy short menu because of COVID? No, they do not. Is Urban Olive & Vine under-staffed? I don't think so. There are plenty of service staff available because so many restaurant people are out of work across the river in Minnesota. On the bright side, the service was great. And the "oldest bar" thing is super cool. I love dive bars. But the food sucked. My burger was okay. But my friend's chicken wraps were dry as hell. I had hope for the hand cut fries. But they were greasy, soggy, under-cooked, and limp. Higher temp in the fryer, please. Bummer. So... I'd say the food is a 2. The service is a 4. And the "oldest bar" in town thing is a 4. I'm averaging it all out to 3 stars. This is a great dive bar for drinking. But forget about the food unless you're drunk and can't tell the difference between good & bad chow. This is only the second negative experience we've had in Hudson. (The other negative was Mallory's.) I probably won't be back to this one. -Daddy Maxx Retro

Friday fish fry meal at Dick's Bar & Grill in Hudson WI.
    Dave B.

We recently tried the Friday fish fry at Dick's Bar & Grill on the recommendation of friends. The all-you-can-eat fish (cod) is served in smaller portions of 4 pieces along with choice of potato, a side of cole slaw, and a side of tartar sauce. Malted vinegar is also available on request. The fish was very tasty and was served nice and hot, and it had a nice batter without being overly thick. I chose French fries for my potato, and they were nicely seasoned but they were too limp and soggy for my liking. My wife had the mashed potatoes, and she said they were pretty good. The service was excellent and the manager came by a couple of times to check that we were happy with our meal. All in all, I'd eat here again if there weren't so many other fish fries yet to be tried.

Cheapest quality drinks in The Hud.
    Rony M.

According to the CDC, Wisconsin leads the nation in binge drinking, 10 years in a row. Now that's something to be proud of. I was in 'The Hud' for my cousin's wedding and we had just finished breakfast when someone asked -- "Is that a bar sandwiched between two bars, across the street from a couple bars?" "Niet, the one in the middle is a liquor store." Later after visiting the sandbox-sized St. Croix beach and admiring the statue that commemorates the birthplace of the Boy Scouts, I was looking to keep that level of excitement. I ask my cousin-in-law for advice on the local nightlife as I'm researching them on Yelp for iPad. Q: Dibbo's? A. Bikers. Q: Sports Club? A: You'll go days without seeing a woman. Q: Pudge's? A: Bring theme music and a cornerman cuz there's gonna be a fight. Q: Dick's? A: You'll love dicks. I don't know if he was making a recommendation or a prophecy but I decided to give it the old college try. I half expected to be greeted by a sign above the door announcing 'Drinkin' Beer, Shootin' Deer since 1955' but it wasn't country at all. I recognize a dive when I see one. SPIRITS Death's Door Gin: the more something sounds like it's going to bury me in the ground, the more I want to try it. Liquor labeled with poisonous/ radioactive/biohazard warnings seem to have seriously inebriating effects on me. Maybe it's psychosomatic, but this locally distilled liquid was no different. Mad Bird Rum: it has a pink flamingo action figure attached to the bottle and I'm from Florida, I didn't need an excuse. Local Beer: brewed by New Glarus, Grain Belt, and Leinenkugel are better than many craft beers I've had and cheaper than bottled water. Lucky Dog: surprised to see this Brooklyn native on draft so far away from home. They also brew non-alcoholic beer for man's best friend -- http://www.pawsitive.com.mt/images/Lucky%20Dog%20Beer.jpg Beanblossom Hard Cider: comes in apple/blueberry/peach/strawberry and packs a serious 8% ABV punch. My crowning achievement in Hudson was to get a recovering alcoholic to drink one of these because she thought it was pop. In her defense, it does come in a pink bottle with cartoon farm animals all over it. SUPPER Veggie Burger: deep fried with cheddar, onions and marinara sauce? Sounds like something they'd make on My Drunk Kitchen - http://hartoandco.com/my-drunk-kitchen/ Big Richard: burger topped with deli-thin ham and Swiss. Served in a hubcap that was probably from a vehicle that had a 'Killin' Bucks, Drivin' Trucks' bumper sticker on it. MUSIC I was making conversation with a truly stunning woman, even by Miami standards, and was wondering why she had decided to wear a Vikings sweatshirt that made her look like purple amoeba, when my cousin who acts about as black as Carlton Banks yelled out -- "Real n****s say word, you ain't never tell no lie." Followed by HYFR by Drake "Don't you love this bar? Are you drunk right now? Will my iPhone ever get service? Do you have any singles? I heard you have hot girls in Miami, is it true? You getting handsy?! You think the family you with, is with you? And I said hell yeah!" Obviously DJ Lancero http://www.yelp.com/user_details?userid=pEnw0xIh8MAgn5OLwoOxkw had taken over the jukebox. Not only that, he was dancing with a girl that until then had been using crutches... Stanky-Legg Lindsay: Cirque du Soleil needs to hire her. She has the extraordinary ability to dance on one leg, seemingly forever, while the other is in an orthopedic cylinder cast. I helped her scratch an itch...by attaching 2 straws to a plastic fork with painter's tape; we were best buddies after that. I don't know what I was going to if my contraption fell apart while it was under her cast though. NO SMOKING My sibling, being accustomed to smoking in bars unknowingly walked inside with a lit cigarette. He immediately turned around and in those two steps was bombarded with warnings and threats. We'll call her 'Heidi' because in Wisco there's a 50% chance that's actually her name, followed him outside and gave him a relentless lecture. He responded to by lighting two more cigarettes and blowing tire sized smoke rings in her face. Don't worry; Heidi got payback by tripping him as he was running back in for last-call. I think they were secretly infatuated with each other. With the exception of Officer/NCO clubs on military bases, it's the cheapest bar I've ever been to and that's without subsidies. 3-4 drinks for $10...in Miami you're lucky if you get one at that price. I heard there's going to be some changes/renovations coming to DBG and I just have one suggestion...a new name...Dick's Club, Members Only.

Dancing on the ceiling! Or sand pails, beer adverts and plastic sailboats, at least.

It's Hudson's oldest bar, yay. It's much more than a dive bar, or it has more rooms than most, at least. (Front and middle bar, restaurant section and the patio makes four.) It's a nice place to get a beer or cocktail, and a surprising variety for a dive bar, with prices to match. Service is usually great. Free popcorn to fuel your thirst. NFL fans: as of the 2018 season, they had NFL Sunday ticket, so you can watch the Packers play when the Vikings are bleeding purple on the Twin Cities stations. There are 'better' places to watch the game with better TVs, but none as fun. It's one of those places that feels different every time you're there, be it a quiet Sunday afternoon or a raging dance party with a DJ on a Saturday night. Sometimes it's really loud. I haven't had any food yet, so no comment about that, and I've only been in the first two rooms, so this review is half complete and I'll have to go back for further research. But I like it.

After shopping in Downtown Stillwater we googled dive bars and found that Dick's was only about 15 minutes away. Always up for a new adventure, we decided to check it out. Parking was free (meters not on during the weekend) and easy to find. Dick's is your typical dive bar. Go here only if you like dive bars or if you have a (very) open mind. The music was blaring, the lighting was dim and the locals were watching football on the multiple TVs. Basic bar food available. My favorite. Cheap, strong Long island. Even more of a favorite. Did not get the waiter's name but he was a laid back fella with long hat and a backwards baseball hat. Sat at the bar from to time chatting with friends but always made it a priority to check in on us. Husband was happy to see Spotted Cow on tap. I was happy they served a delicious Rachel. Paired with fries and a side of chipotle mayo was just what the doctor ordered. Total bill for 2 full meals, 2 beers and a LI was under 40 bucks. Dick's, why you have to be so far away from me? Oh yeah, they have darts!

There's really no redeeming value to be associated with this place other than it being a cool place to have a beer during the hot summer months. And downright freezing during the winter! Me finding myself tethered to John (a local gadabout) who drags me to a seemingly endless line of beverage intakes of an alcohol nature, and I not being use to the effects of cold and ice. The ice in the parking lot can be treacherous, and the inside is like aging beef in cold storage! Ahhh but that only adds to its charm. Tie that in with the warm hearts sharing the bar and it makes for a memorable experience. But not one that I would frequent on a daily basis. I heard stories about there being caves associated with Nova. Who knows, maybe someday John will get me an invite to explore and I'll come across Injun' Joe just like Tom Sawyer. My luck though it'll be a rabid bat I find. A memory ever associated with the bowels of the dive which is Nova. Honestly speaking, I had fun at Nova, cold and all. We would have stayed longer but alas, a dinner engagement loomed which would provide us the opportunity to indulge once more, and more importantly, thaw out! Quick Tip: After you've had your fill at Nova you can walk down to the corner for ice cream at the Dairy Queen. You'll find that novelty warmer than what you had to endure at Hudsons finest dive.

The pastries seemed hard and stale. For advertising Prime Rib, the cuts that were served were disappointing. We were looking around for a carving station with au jus and horseradish. We found what seemed to be a stack of cold precut pieces with grill marks like a Salisbury steak from a tv dinner. I wish I'd taken a pic. We've always had good restaurant food there so we also suggested it to another family with a large group. They rated it a 3/10 so I was embarrassed I'd recommended it at the price we paid. It was also my brothers 50th birthday to we agreed to spend more than we normally do on Easter brunch/person. Unfortunate double occasion choice. The dessert choices were lacking with cookies and what seemed like an all whipped cream pie. I wish I'd bought a cake. We were told our reservation was later as we got mixed in with the other family and the desk wasn't understanding that I had my own reservation confirmed three times. Server and staff were somewhat attentive (hard to get 2nd drink) but it just was disappointing. Sadly won't return for holidays but we've loved the French onion soup, fried cauliflower, and old style supper club vibe when visiting the restaurant in the past and ordering from the menu. I tried emailing them, but I've had no response.
