I'm reviewing the Myth based on it's concert holding abilities only. Not the nightclub. I have seen a handful of shows here. Most recently the Marilyn Manson show this past Friday night. It was the first show I attended there since it reopened after closing a couple years years ago. All in all, it is not a bad place to catch a show. Highlights: Good stage sight-lines Decent sound Accommodating crowd sizes Awesome bathrooms w/ attendants Really good looking female bartenders Reasonable drink prices Lowlights: Location - driving all the way out to Maplewood SUCKS. Staff - they seem to be overloaded on bouncers and short on bartenders which can make getting a drink painful Patronage - be very careful choosing what shows to see here. There have been stabbings in the past. Drinks - they limit you to one drink per person at the 18+ and all ages concerts All in all, it isn't a terrible place to catch a show. Don't get me wrong, there are about 20 other concert venues in the Twin Cities I'd prefer to see a show at before the Myth, but I would never say no to going there based on the venue itself. read more

The "Myth nightclub" is hardly a "club" Recently attended a concert at the Myth. If you want to get any type of viewable seat you have to pay. And it isn't cheap. But the biggest disappointment in attending a concert at this venue is there is no alcohol. Well, they do serve alcohol but they have absolutely no selection. They cannot make you a cocktail (other than your basic rum or whisky and coke etc... don't ask for anything as simple as a Gimlet because they don't have the ingredients). And beer selection? For $7.00 you can get a bud, bud-lite or michelob lite (and maybe a can of corona lite if they can find it, depends on which bar you are at) A club this size can not afford to bring any type of beers? Even the local, corner tavern has a better selection and cheaper. read more

Had by far the worst concert experience at this venue tonight. It was for the Melanie Martinez concert. The performer herself was of course phenomenal, which made up for the horrible working staff and security... to an extent. My sister and I arrived at the venue an entire 8 hours before doors opened. It was freezing cold and windy (it is Minnesota after all) and we of course had to wait outside. We drove all the way down from Duluth, MN and we were hoping to get there early so we could get a close view of the stage. Around 4:30, 2 hours before any of us were allowed inside, the staff came out and began to do body checks and required that we put all our blankets and chairs and even jackets in our car (unless we wanted to pay an extra 3$ for shitty coat check) in our cars or we would lose our spot. It was literally 40 degrees out and they were making us put our stuff away TWO WHOLE HOURS before the show, all so they wouldn't have to take their time to check tickets as we walked in single file. Then, once the doors finally opened, the staff allowed 3 doors to open rather than just the one that everyone had lined up at. I understand that this makes things quicker and easier for the staff, but because of this, those of us who had wasted their entire day freezing outside for 9+ hours suddenly got trampled and beat to the front of the venue by people who hadn't even been there for 5 minutes. How unfair and rude. There was no point in anyone arriving early. But worst of all, the staff was unbelievably rude. None of them were personable or friendly. There was one large woman who was almost impossible to talk to. She seemed so crabby and when a father of a child who was waiting in line asked if her daughter could wait to put her coat in the car until at least 1 hour before doors opened, she held no compassion and completely shut him down. In the mosh pit, the fans were crazy and pushing everybody back and forth and forward- to a point where people were barely able to breathe and were even fighting. I and the people around me warned security of this and they ignored us for about 2 minutes. Finally, once they finally looked up from their phones and saw we needed assistance, they walked over. When we told one of the security men the problem, he looked right at us and said "there's nothing we can do". What a weakling. Nothing has happened that bad at any other venue I've attended because the place was run well, but if there ever was fighting and pushing, the security guards would at least pay attention and yell something like, "don't push!". Thank God Melanie was so entertaining or I literally would've pushed my way out of the venue and never come back. By far the most poorly run entertainment venue of any kind. The staff is atrocious and unhelpful, the venue is small and not set up well. Never will I ever come back to this venue and I will make sure to tell everyone I know how horrible it is. And may I add that no high profile artists should ever perform here. If the staff treats their artists the same way they treat their customers, I don't see why anybody would want to perform here. First time I was here I found out about their no re-entry deal. This was after paying $20 for 'hip hop night' and trying to re-enter after taking my underage drunk brother out for some fresh air. "How you going to tell me there's no re-entry?!" I demanded at the door. The security guy just pointed to the line of "No Re-entry" signs that littered the walls all the way out to the exit. Myth however has redeemed itself after a night of free VIP. It was nice to go all the way to the sky level to point and laugh at all the little people waiting in line. Can't say I didn't enjoy getting my groove thang on middle of the dance floor either. But you couldn't pay me to get up in the cage. Only ugly or really drunk girls dare. Sadly to say, it is typically a combination of the two--never in between. read more

I won tickets to the star party & a meet & greet with lil jon. We got thru the line fairly quick. Inside looked like one big hall. A bar was located on each side of the small dance area in front of the stage. VIP was upstairs. If you do a meet & greet you have to go thru VIP to get to the greeting 'area'. We had a great time. Meeting lil jon was 10 stars, but that had nothing to do with the venue. read more

hey so I was wondering if it was in your policy to let to let bodyguards grab a woman whose been pushed down to the ground by their collar and drag her (basically choking her) out crying? Along with her friends and her boyfriend who pushed people away for continuously trampling her after being pushed to the ground. That was considered "fighting" by your standards. Yes the show was stopped briefly for this incidence but when a woman (my friend) was trying to explain to your aggressive bouncer that fighting wasn't the case she was pushed away and cussed out for trying to help me. Your employees used unnecessary amounts of force and aggression towards people that did nothing wrong. I understand the role of a bouncer and what they possibly could have/had to deal with. But when I'm begging him to let me stand up and walk out and my friend is also begging him to let me walk that's a problem. He would've rather dragged me out aggressively the way he did to prove a point (he was stronger than me, he was going to control the situation and not allow me my right stand). My friends and I have bruises and gashes because of how your employees treated the situation. Not a single one of us resisted being removed. Also on the outside of your venue I'm not happy with whom I spoke with about the incident. He listened but didn't proved any kind of information on how to get in contact with anyone in charge. Turned to my friend and tried to invalid our claims by trying to make her out to be a racist white woman. I will never step foot in that's venue again. read more

About ten years ago I went to see M.I.A at the Myth and it was a rotten experience. The staff was super rude and we almost waited a whole hour before M.I.A actually came on stage (the sound and performance was good though). I never planned on coming back to the Myth. However, when the Flaming Lips came to play at the Myth... I couldn't resist! And I have to say, the Myth has really improved its customer service and overall vibe. All the staff we interacted with was so friendly and nice... from the bartenders to ticket takers. The sound was amazing and they kept the show right on schedule. Thank you Myth for hosting a great show! I know people give you a bad rap sometimes, but I will definitely be back to see other shows! :) read more

Myth: home of the too short of dreses and super lowcut tops. I have some fun personal stories from this place. I'll be back there in about a month for the Tec N9ne show at the end of April, so I'll most likely be seeing more of what I usually see when I'm there. Yay! You've gotta have some ratchet sightings in your life right? It will be a good time seeing an actual show there because I have yet to do that at this venue. Now don't get me wrong, you'll find nice people here, but it's one of those places where if you're not intoxicated, you may not enjoy yourself. PDA is a common occurrence, and you'll see plenty of strangers making out with strangers. Remember to be that friend that saves your friends if they're being bothered by some creeper. The music is pumped up and it's very crowded. You'll leave with other peoples sweat on you, so bring along some good smellin' spray. It'll help you feel less gross afterwards. The upstairs is calmer than the main dance floor/stage area, so if you want to just hang out, I'd suggest going upstairs. The dance floor is big, so keep track of your friends or else you just may lose them. They have some fun events from time to time, so look out for those on their calendar. I went to the lock and key event they had for Valentine's Day last year, and had a blast. I never found the fella who had the key to unlock my locket, but my friend found her match-twice. She received prizes for it, so we had a blast. Come early because the line always wraps along the building outside on the weekends. Parking's never an issue since they have their own private lot. You may have to walk far though, so wear heels you can walk in, ladies. read more

The Myth has the worst Box Office of any venue I have ever been to. First of all, the hours when it is open are left vague, but even when you email ahead of time to make sure the box office is open that day, the person running the box office is running an hour late (it has happened to me twice now). It's like they don't want people to go to their concerts... No complaints about the audio or aesthetics of the concerts I've seen there. read more

I went to see Griz here with some friends. Overall had a pretty unpleasant experience for a number of reasons, and my friends felt the same way, as did the people around us. Here are the problems that I could see. 1) The venue was overpacked. Every review on Yelp says this and its true. If you're going to a show for anyone with more than 25,000 Soundcloud followers, be prepared to become a sardine. 2) Sound quality was sacrificed for bass. I went to a show where the artists combined live instruments with synthesized bass in styles like funkstep/future trap. All of the performers were excellent musicians, but as soon as the headliner came on, they turned up the bass so high that I couldn't tell at all what the performers were doing. Someone I went with, a long time Griz fan, said that sometimes a song would be halfway done before she realized what song it was. So the experience of SEEING Griz, by which I mean watching and listening to him perform, was essentially ruined. Audio technicians should know better than this and I've been to other venus in MN like Skyway Theatre that have big bass without drowning out the treble. Not that Skyway Theatre is an ideal venue, but in this regard it is superior to Myth. 3) Anything you carry even remotely related to illegal substances will be taken and will not be given back. I brought a backpack and security went though literally every pocket examining literally every item in my backpack. They found things I didn't even realize were in my bag, and took my $200 Pax vaporizer. Also, they had police nearby at the security, so there is no arguing if they take something. You DON'T want this to be you, so I would recommend doing whatever you want to do in the parking lot before heading in, or being satisfied with just drinking. 4) If you put it in coat check, its staying in coat check until the end of the show. I wanted to get the earbuds from my bag that I brought to the show to protect my ears, and when I waited in line to ask to get them from my bag, they said that I was holding up the line and that they needed to get everyone's coat INTO coat check before they could begin returning things. My bags were literally right under the counter in front of them and it would have taken 10 seconds for me to get what I needed. You're probably reading this because an artist you really want to see is playing there. You're probably going to go see them regardless of what you read on Yelp. Just be warned that things can and will go wrong. You will likely not want to return to the venue again. If this was a good venue, there wouldn't be story after story on Yelp and Google Reviews of people having shitty experiences as a result of club policies. read more

One of the worst concerts experiences I have ever had at this venue. One of my absolute favorite artists was performing and I couldn't enjoy the show in the slightest. The entire building was packed so tight that any chance of moving at all was gone after being herded in. I couldn't even put my arms up during the concert because people were so tightly packed around me. There was no ventilation so the building felt like it was close to 100 degrees inside and the place was filthy. Will not ever attend an event there again... read more

Went to see Jon Pardi, Midland and Runaway June last night - the entertainers were great!!! The venue - terrible management and customer service. It was one of the coldest nights of the year. The doors are suppose to open at 7pm - they opened at 7:10 and only 2 doors when they have the potential of opening 5. The concert was sold out - has been for months. Don't you think, if anything, you would open a bit early? It took us 45 minutes to get in the door!! They finally opened 2 more doors but that was 30 minutes into it. I've been to the Myth several times, for various types of events. The sound is great in my opinion. It probably depends on where you're standing and the music being played. The bass literally made my clothes, skin, and hair shake the last time I was there. It's located right off of 694 & White Bear Ave, next to Maplewood Mall, so it's really easy to find. The parking situation is a bit awkward but really nice if you think about it. It's easy to find your car, you don't have to walk several blocks (very nice when it's cold out), and it's free. There is a Best Buy conveniently located across the street just in case you forget your camera. The staff is super friendly. I handed my purse to the bag check guy so he could look through it and he said "you don't have to give me your purse... I mean, it's real pretty and all, but you just gotta open it up for me" The bartenders were completely on the ball, mine saw me immediately and I waited less than two minutes for a drink. Finding a good view is a challenge if you don't arrive early. But that isn't unusual for shorties like me because we can't see at other venues either. That's my problem, not the Myth's. I didn't go upstairs this time, if you get there early and don't mind being far away you can sometimes get a spot along the railing upstairs. Please be considerate and stand elsewhere if you're gifted in the height department, that's the shorties' only shot at a good view! There isn't anything fancy in the area to go hang out at after the show, you'll have to settle for IHOP, Pizza HTaco Bell, Arby's, Wendy's, Baker's Square, Denny's or Perkins. Dive bar called Bleechers down White Bear Ave. past 36. So it's a little out of the ordinary but it's easy to get used to. It has definitely grown on me. I won't hesitate to go to another live show there. read more

Large venue, nice location, easy to find, clean, good acoustics, the band sounded great. Get there early for parking. However, this is a night club. It is not set up like an amphitheater with a good view for all to see the stage. If you don't beat the first 100-200 people into the door, or if you aren't over 6 feet tall, you will be standing behind someone, or behind several people, and they will block your view. I took my wife and her sister to Fall Out Boy (wife's favorite band) and we were behind 8 feet of people, I am 5' 10' and I was able to see barely between the heads of the people in front of us. My wife and her sister are both shorter than me and they saw absolutely none of the show because everywhere in this place is flat and you aren't higher up than the person in front of you. I recommend getting there either extremely early to get a spot in the front of the line, so you can get a spot inside at a limited front row area. Good luck seeing if you go here, because if you can't see you're not going to have a good time. Once people have their front row spot here they will not give it up, even for 20 bucks for 1 song. read more

Myth - Music Venues Near Me - Maplewood, Minnesota

Hands down, the worst experience that I have ever had at a music venue. I have been going to shows for the better part of the past 15 years of my life, seeing as I went to college for music business and got to work for a lot of artists over the years. I had an old friend in town last night who recently was hired to play guitar for Ke$ha's band. We have been friends for 13 of those years, and this was a very big deal for him.He had given myself, and 3 friends-tickets and backstage sticky passes. We are all in our 30's, young professional, polite women. We have never been treated so poorly by venue staff and security in our entire lives. I do not want this review to come off as someone entitled, or that we deserved special treatment, as we had these passes. We are human beings, and should not be cursed out, shoved, or disrespected by staff for not doing anything wrong. We do not find ourselves important, but we definitely demand respect-as any human being does. Upon arrival, we bought drinks, which like everyone has been saying, are extremely over priced and go in very tiny plastic cups, that you run the risk of getting date raped by having to place your drink on the outside of the bathroom on a table since you are not allowed to bring drinks into the restroom. The security guards there all are extremely rude, disrespectful, egomaniacs with clearly something to prove. Not one security guard was polite, or knew anything about the rules of VIP vs. backstage passes, etc. Not one person could answer a question about where we had access to, would tell us we could stand somewhere and then 5 minutes later be removed from the area. Not one security guard knew how to handle a crowd, or drunk and sloppy patrons. There were SEVERAL extremely intoxicated patrons there-that were still being served alcohol. In particular, before the opening band even played, there was a girl who could not stand upright, and instead her back was curved and her head was leaning back. Her friend was trying to hold her up and walk her to a table.... at which point the girl knocked over several other patrons drinks. There were 2 security guards in viewpoint that did not say or do anything. I asked one of them if they were aware of this issue, and they said they had "cut them off". At ANY other venue in town, being cut off means your wrist band is removed, you are sat down near an exit with a bottle or glass of water. I have even seen clubs put patrons in cabs to get them home safely. There was yet another incident where a young girl was leaning up at the bar holding herself up, and was still served a beverage. At which point she walked away from the bar, and stumbled the entire way outside. A patron had to alert a security guard during the concert that not only were kids crowding a sight-line to the stage, but it was also at the top of the stair case-which was a fire hazard. The patron knew this, and told the security guard that he needed to move these guests out of this spot. In my opinion, a patron should not know more about the rules of safety than the actual staff. At the end of the night when fans were exiting the building, security guards were not allowing patrons to pass through the side exit with clearly illuminated exit signs. Kids still were slamming through the doors and exiting. Security wanted all patrons to exit through the main doors-which only 2 were open. This seems like a bigger hazard than it does to allow the fans to exit through several doors just to the right of the main entrance. Security guards were slamming doors in the crowds faces after they first stood there and allowed 20 kids to exit, then slam it on the rest of the crowd and tell them to exit out the front. This went on for roughly 15 mins... .allowing kids to exit, slamming doors in others faces. I was disgusted by the treatment of myself and my friends, we were yelled at by several security guards, when asking a question we were simply ignored, or denied an answer. When we were escorted to an area by a tour manager where we could actually watch our friend play the show, a security guard cursed out the tour manager and physically SHOVED us back into an unmoving crowd. Mind you, we are all 5 ft tall and roughly 110lbs. In my opinion a male should not physically touch a woman in that way-especially when we were being polite and did nothing wrong-we were being escorted by someone on the tour to a place where we could see. **If you are someone in the music business, a band, tour manager, radio personnel or a photographer, I DO NOT recommend this venue. If you have friends that are there to see your band, they won't see you-they will be hassled and harassed. If you have a pass, you will not get access to photograph, interview a band, etc. If you are a musician on tour-you will have nowhere to go after the club closes-there are barely enough restaurant options or places to do your banking, laundry, get toiletries, etc. I will never return. read more

I can understand the line waiting to get in, even though it was cold. But to wait in the coat check line for 2 hours, after waiting for 1/1/2 to get in. They could only use help 1 person at a time even though they had 2 people to help you; the coat check was a hot mess they had no sort of system in check and I'm sure that at least 1/2 the people in the mob were budgers. While your tickets may be cheap you have to pay an arm and leg for drinks. Then the plass is so small and seemed to be over sold. The show was awesome until the power went down, obviously they had not prepared for the system the artist had brought in. read more

Minus 100 Stars. Without a doubt this is the worst place that I have ever seen a concert. 1st. they sell way too many tickets . you are packed in there like sardines. The guy next to me in the second row of people on the floor at a Korn concert got roughed up by security for "allowing "himself to be pushed into the people on the left of him. Worst concert venue you've ever experience. Difficult access to restrooms, and even more constructed access after concert is over (at 11:00 pm!). They refused to allow me access to it, and even threw body guards in my direction when I attempted to use them. Lame treatment after paying for entry tickets, drinks, and $340 of t-shirts costs. read more

If I could give this craphole 0 stars I would. They oversell their venue. Every chance they get. I saw Die Antwoord there last weekend, doors were at 8 show at 9, we waited outside until 930. Show didn't start till 1030. They didn't even think to send staff out to let the crowd know why we were having to wait so long. It was over packed, dangerous, my friend got pushed to the floor. The band played for 45 min then staff flashed flashlights at us 2 min after the last song and pretty much herded us out as quickly as possible, rude is an understatement. I want to make clear that I am a responsible laid back person so I was not rude to them nor was my group, so we did not provoke any of this treatment. I am actually saddened that I have tickets to go see Deftones there in a couple weeks. I love deftones and they normally play at 1st ave. Many of my friends are passing up the chance to see them because they refuse to go back to the Myth. They need new management or something. The Myth is a giant pain in Minnesotas side. read more

Went for the Drop Kick Murphy's last night and the place was so unbelievably packed. Sardines in a can have more room. It was impossible to move. Every inch of that place was packed solid with people. You could barely get in past security, you couldn't get to the bar, you couldn't get to the floor, etc. From 15 feet away from the bathroom, it was a 30 minute ordeal to get there (I wish that were an exaggeration!) and you'll kiss whatever spot you had in the building goodbye. We left after the first opening band because being that crammed in isn't our idea of fun. Everyone was literally packed in back to belly and overlapping shoulders. I don't know how that isn't against fire code...there was no place to move and no way to escape if something were to happen. Myth will never get our money again. A word to performers and their booking agents - avoid this place like the plague. There are better places to book in the cities. read more

Shadiest venue I have ever attended! I have never had an issue at any venue nor have I never got kicked out. Long story short. Got roofed, slipped broke my ankle, minutes later my wristband cut off and escorted out for no reason. Happened to many others as well. Brother got hauled out in a choke hold for asking why I got kicked. There has also been rumor of bouncers slipping drinks as well. Good luck patrons! read more

Myth is a great facility with great sound; however, I will NEVER go here again. Unfortunately for Myth, it's drawbacks are not directly related to the venue itself. First, for some reason Myth attracts a really, really trashy crowd-- regardless of the event. Barry Manilow could play a show here and it would still be filled with trashy meth heads who no sense of personal space or manners. Second, the security here is downright abusive. They go through your pockets without asking, they confiscate stuff, they're incredibly slow (I missed 30 mins of the last show I went to here because of security). Frankly, I felt violated. Whenever I've gone here, I've only wanted to leave as soon as possible. It's got a bad vibe. Side Note: It's funny when people say the "drive is too far" to go to Myth. To those people I say: there is life outside of Uptown/Downtown-- try and expand your worldview just a little bit. Myth is right off of 36 and has parking galore. read more

If you want to drive a far distance to be guaranteed a weak sound mix and complete lack of decent site lines, this is the venue for you! But wait, there's more! The venue also smells like a stale gym sock, and somehow you can taste the air, leaving your mouth with the unpleasant but long-lasting chalky taste of chalk. The drab and uninventive decor is sure to slowly erode your will to keep living, and the poorly laid out walkways promise you'll awkwardly collide with other patrons, likely explaining the many half beers spilt around the floor. The Myth is an apt name, because only in a fantasy world would this be a good place to see a concert. read more

Again they are cutting corners. I just went to the Bush concert there. There was not enough staff to serve you (had to wait long lines). The $6 beer was poured into some plastic keg glass. And to use the bathroom, you had to set your beer outside on this cart. I just drank mine because I didn't want some unknown drug in my beer. Plus you only can buy one beer at a time. Not a bad place for live music. As other's have posted, yea you probably should get in line early to claim a standing spot inside with a sightline to the stage. The acoustics are good. The venue layout leans more towards that of a nightclub, but none the less, I thoroughly enjoyed seeing one of my favorite bands, The Wallflowers. read more

Major security issues! Not a safe venue! Horrible security, they are nowhere to be found in that venue. I along with my minor son were assaulted on the floor. Left the floor to get security and could not find them anywhere. Bathrooms are horrible, the dryers don't work, half the stalls were out of order. Get your act together. This place over sells tickets, they do not care about anything other than ticket sales. The security staff are jerks they are good at watching fights but that's about it Friday 3/11/2016 was the Slayer/Testament show. It was so packed you couldn't see the stage. God forbid you try to go get a beer or go to the bathroom you would never get back to where you were. Then 3/12/16 the Megadeth/Suicidal Tendencies concert felt like they had twice as many people in there if that's possible. it was absolutely ridiculous. I tried to stay in the back out away from all the idiots, and I was crushed against the back wall and bruised a couple ribs just from people trying to get out to the smoking area that had 1000 people on it alone. We left by the 4th song of the Suicidal set and people were still coming in.What a waste of money Didn't even get to see the band I actually came to see in the first place. Never again will i go to anything at the Myth, the place is a joke I have been going there for years and every show it gets worse. They only care about how many tickets they can sell and nothing else. Everyone Needs to stop giving these vampires money and boycott this place read more

They get a lot of good shows but they have terrible sight lines and dickish security. They have a tendency to oversell tickets which can make it impossible to see the entertainment. Avoid for big shows. read more

Was here for a show on a Friday night. The venue itself was pretty good in the way of site lines and sound, but the staff and the rest of the experience wasn't. I found most of the staff to be rude and plain not very nice. The prices for a thimble sized drink were terrible, plus it's way out in the middle of nowhere, so to go out after and even have a few drinks there isn't the easiest. read more

Went for the Childish Gambino show last night, and it was amazing well he was. Myth in itself was good like always with a huge dance floor and plenty of bars. To keep a moderate drinker to the heaver drinker very happy. My least favorite venue in the twin cities. The fact that its far off in Maplewood has nothing to do with it. The sound is always done poorly, the worst being the Krewella show in December. Security are always jerks. Parking sucks and waiting outside to go in in the winter is ridiculous. Staff are not as friendly as other venues either. I only go here when they manage to get a really good DJ and groan that this is where i have to go to see them. read more

I was there for Star Party and it was a lot of fun! I would love to give 5 stars, however, I forgot my debit card with the bartender and when I went to pick it up the lady at the box office was a total bitch! Customer service is everything and she is the face of your company!! Awful!! read more

Every time I've been here it has been oversold to the point where you cant move without shoving and elbowing people out of your way, not to mention the fact that they must have some sort of a sound ordinance in the area because the music is always so quiet! After the second time I just decided to smuggle my own liquor into the venue because getting to the bar was such a hassle the first time. The location is out in the middle of nowhere in a suburban mall parking lot. super weird... No bus service after midnight so you will end up paying at least $30 for a cab each way, that is, if you can find one to take you back at 2 am. read more
