Very frustrated that it's taking so long to get my glasses. Both my husband and self were in on 3/31/26. As of today our order is still pending. Only the lenses are in and not the glasses. We ordered 2 sets of lenses and a new set of glasses with new lenses. Who knows when the glasses will show up. I have always used this practice since moving to area but never again. read more

The office recently moved here from Clearwater Mall...this location is next to a Jersey Mike's and an urgent care type medical center....very small strip mall type thing in north side of GRB just past AutoZone. The gal sitting behind the desk wasn't much of a friendly sort but that was the end of the cold fish vibe. Nicole the optometric tech nothing to write home about either. They both seem to take after the office manager...a guy named Wes. He seems the sort who tries to sound smarter than what he really is, but this isn't about character assassination. It's more about feeling comfortable while getting one's eyes examined, etc. That's where the present optometrist comes into play...The fellow is a doc by the name of Jim Phillips, who was/is a down home sorta fellow who speaks simply and tells U like it is without lotsa multisyllabic gobbledygook. The practice also has two other optometrists listed. No more Dr H. BTW...he has moved on in life apparently. The optician who helped us both select new frames is a gal named Jamie. She too, much like Dr Phillips, is a warm and friendly sort who seems to know her stuff quite well. The only one in the place I remember from their old location is Terry, the other optician who's actually been there for what seems like eons. Much like any other eyeglass operation, there's a decent selection of frames, contacts and the like. Turnaround still about three weeks but at least our insurance takes care of nearly all of it...I never recall those "one hour" joints being so well covered insurance wise. Most of the appointment setting and all are done online, although they still take phone calls and do stuff the old fashioned way also. As our optical insurance is totally electronic too, the electronic appointment and check-in system worked well and I didn't even have to speak to anyone, which is good. Given the front desk people I encountered upon first arriving: even better. If I were basing my review based on them alone, this place wouldn't even get THREE stars let alone four. Meantime, know that their new office can be a lil difficult to locate as it comes up really quickly and is a bit hidden by the trees and just being set back from the street. There IS a sign out front for it and the other two tenants so just be on the lookout and take your time. Just a little reminder once again that the plaza is directly adjacent to and just beyond AutoZone. read more

I stopped by for my annual eye checkup. Making an appointment is easy and they send a multitude of messages as a followup. They take most insurances however the optional retinal scan is an upcharge of about $44. I went back the next day to pick out some new frames. Everyone was pleasant. Doctor lied to me about being able to switch my contacts. I asked the doctor multiple times during my appointment if I needed to schedule another appointment to swap contacts and if there was a time frame to do so. The doctor told me I could use my entire supply of contacts and be able to switch to another set of contacts without setting up another appointment no problem. He assured me I could use my 3 month supply of contacts and swap to a different set of contacts if I didn't like them. Waited on hold for over 20 mins to be told I surpassed the 3 month window to swap contacts and that the doctor who helped me retired and the new doctor cannot honor what the old doctor told me. read more

The front desk has a terrible attitude. They don't check if your insurance is valid before you go to their clinic. When you get to the clinic, they tell you that they can't see you today because they don't have our insurance information yet. read more

I can't speak for others, but my experience here as my first time EVER getting my eyes examined was definitely a 10/10 experience. The staff was patient, knowledgeable, kind, just overall amazing, and Dr.Swearingen was absolutely GREAT. Glad I chose to go with this facility for sure. read more

So my husband decided finally to try contacts. it took a couple of try's to find ones he liked. once he decided on what worked- the staff forgot to place his order. he is now out of town on business and has no backup pair because we are still waiting close to a month for the order. And now he has dropped one of his contacts and is in another state with no way to see. So very disappointed in this situation. read more

I had to change optometrist because of Medicare. I was skeptical, especially because of the name of the place. What I found was a very competent medical assistant, optometrist (Dr H), and great support with glasses. I appreciate it very much that the medical assistant really listen to me about my aversion to having my eyes tested. I'm very squeamish. She took great care explained everything in great detail, and was very clear about any additional costs upfront, allowing me to make choices about what I would, and would not spend money on. Dr. H was very compassionate, explain things in great detail and helped me to get much improved prescription. I highly recommend this place. read more

Hope you don't need a refund after your order is incorrect 2 times in a row taking a month and leaving you without glasses. If you do be prepared to wait while they submit your claim to their corporate offices for a check by mail because they lack the technology to issue a refund onsite. I have been coming to this location for over 5 years and came back even after another location took over 2 months to deliver prescription sunglasses. Don't waste your time or money here. I have been a patient at the Clearwater, FL location for going on 4 years. This was my second year in a row seeing Dr. Hossenlopp. Dr. H, as they call him, takes his time with you, asks the questions, and listens to the answers before making a best decision on your eye care. As for the rest of the staff, they are awesome. All of them were smiling, ready to answer any questions you have, and treat you like a friend. I could not have asked for a better experience. Professional, competent, and very personable. I could not have asked for a better experience. They worked hard to find all the possible discounts that could be leveraged based on my plan. I was so happy with my pair of normal prescription glasses that I went back and got a pair of prescription sunglasses. Beware that Costa's must be sent to Costa for the prescription lenses and not the normal lab. The turnaround time for the prescription sunglasses was excessive, but that is of no fault of this establishment. read more

The exam went well, the Doctor and Associate were great to work with. The lens came in about 7 days and the fit was one of the best I've ever had. This place is not the best. I brought my son here to get contacts and it took 3 visits just to be given the correct size. The lens he was given was too big and didn't match the original prescription. The doctor said it was fine then we had to come back several times and wait until someone would agree with us that an uncomfortable lens is no. I've been getting contacts for over 20 years and have never experienced something like this before. This place just takes one simple thing and makes it beyond complicated wasting hours of your time. I had a new patient appointment with Dr. Craig Hossenlopp today. I found Dr. H to be very thorough and extremely knowledgeable. He was very professional while at the same time being very personable. He explained every test he made and the significance of the results he obtained. He also, answered every question I posed to him. Went to Clearwater office no problem with the optometrist or the front desk staff but if you don't buy their glasses and all the add ons they will get rude and nasty. And god forbid you ask for a refund they will take 4-5 weeks. But they can take money out of your card in 5 seconds. read more

When I realize that I'm running low on contacts, I am comforted by the fact that I will get a quick and pleasant experience at My Eye Dr. Ive been wearing contacts since I was a teen, but had been complaining for years to previous doctors that I would constantly get really dry eyes. Doctor Hossenlopp made sure that I didn't leave until I got the right contacts for me. I must have tried at least 10 types/brands! He was patient and very helpful in finding the contacts that were the perfect fit. He's great! The techs are super friendly, especially Arlene. How often do you get your own cheering squad when you can actually see every letter on the very last line your vision card!!! I've been coming to My Eye Dr for at least 3 years and have never had a bad experience, from the friendly call to schedule an appointment to picking up some free sunglasses with my purchase! Oh yeah, they have a price match on contacts with other local contact carriers! That's great too! read more

I made an appointment online, I arrived on time, and the lady at the desk tells me " We've been calling you for 3 days, your insurance says you're not eligible till January 1st. I was very happy with Dr. H and felt he was very knowledgeable and thorough with my exam..After 2 months of using my monthly contacts they gave me trouble and he gladly re evaluated my needs and changed me to daily lenses with no trouble..there was no additional cost for his reevaluation and Terry was great in ordering me prescription sunglasses even correcting the nose guards on my old glasses for better comfort. Ok, so a 15 minute exam turned into nearly 2 hours. I had appt and showed up 5 minutes early. Waited 30 minutes to be seen and then many more waits in between. Receptionist does her best including part of multistep eye exam. You end up on sales person desk before getting script...where I waited again. They don't seem to care that you wait like cattle. Had enough and demanded my script... again a wait and NEVER any apologies. Just a don't let the door hit you on the way out. Never go to this place unless you have lots of spare time and don't care about discounts on glasses. UGH!! read more

I'm not sure why Jill had problems with her Groupon. I used mine and I feel the store at this location was beyond reproach. I was warmly received and the lady accepted my Groupon without hesitation. I had a Groupon for glasses and got my second pair with insurance. BOTH PAIR were made wrong! DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME! I had very clear instructions! 1 pair of glasses 1 pair of sunglasses! They were both made into sunglasses! When I bend over the glasses fall off my face. Then they "bleached" one pair. (Still tinted) supposed to be clear! Still wrong! We called this location and while they couldn't get her a replacement pair, they suggested giving her a pair of monthlies contact lenses. WHAT A LIFESAVER! I wasn't properly informed of my vision insurance benefits. I didn't know that by keeping the contacts I had been using for years that I would have to pay a $115 fit fee for the optometrist to look at my own contacts that I brought. I didn't even leave with a sample "fit pair". This place is shady, and there's a reason it's location is set behind everything else in that plaza. The optometrist also was rude and short with me throughout the appointment. Very unprofessional and insensitive to not make patients aware of what they will pay BEFORE a procedure. Dr. H does not have a good bedside manner when explaining the reason for a contact lens fit. He just kept raising his voice saying that "It's the LAW". Also worth noting that my prescription didn't change. Take your insurance/money and go elsewhere. Thanks for the $115 bill and holding my prescription hostage until I paid it. I really like these guys. The girl at the front counter is so adorable, and sweet and she makes sure that my 12 year old daughter has a fun every time we go. I wish I could remember her name, but she is terrific. The doctors and clinical assistants are very good too. I would highly recommend them if you are looking for a great eye care facility! I broke my old glasses and they were able to get me in within a week, even as a first time patient. Everyone was very friendly and it was by far the most pleasant experience I have had with an eye doctor in a long time. I only use my glasses for driving, so I try to get the cheapest pair possible and typically I get a lot of up-selling pitches from other eye care facilities, but none here. Had an awful experience here. The lady at front desk with short hair did not have a clue what she was doing. I gave her my insurance and she helped 3 other people before even looking it up. I was there hour and a half for a check up appointment. And the doctor gave me the wrong contacts and I got an infection. And every time I have Been, a tech comes in and interrupts the doctor to ask him questions. The one of Tyrone is better. read more
