They can get you the visa typically 75% faster than if you went in person and did it yourself. This is very handy for urgencies or for frequent travelers who need their passports back in due hast. The staff here are very knowledgeable and can quickly outline everything you will need to submit your visa application. In January, I got my photos taken for my tourist visa. Last week, I decided to get my visa by going to Visa Center (yes, it's spelled the American way, including its site URL). I found this place through an online search. Instead of taking time to drive downtown, pay for parking, and wait to get my visa, I drove for ten minutes to get here. The office is located on Highway 7, on the southwest corner. Parking gets busy fast in this plaza. I learned though my experience at Mindzai that there are two parking levels underground. I first visited this office last Tuesday. I got there at 09:44 and nabbed a decent parking spot just outside the building. I took the elevator up to the tenth floor. I got confused as to where this office was. It is shared with another business. You simply go through the glass doors and hang a left. It is best to print your forms and fill them out before you head over to this office, which I did. The Chinese consulate only accepts typed applications. If you don't have access to a computer, this office charges $35 to decipher your chicken-scratch handwriting and do it for you. There are some services that you can do without. If you want updates on your application on your phone, you pay $1 for text messages. I declined. You get e-mail updates, which were often, free, and helpful. You can also check the status of your application online. There is also a service in which your details are registered​ with the Chinese consulate. If you want that piece of mind, it is $16. I got an L tourist visa for China that allows multiple entries into the country. It is good for ten years. I got an e-mail to pick it up on Tuesday. I went back the following day and had to park underground on level P1. Parking spaces can be tight. However, my car is small, so I backed into my spot easily. You need to bring your receipt to pick up your visa and fetch your passport. My visa was in my passport. I was pleased. Picking up your visa in-person is your cheapest option. It takes a week. If you are in a rush, there are faster options. Naturally, you pay more for them. I recommend this service if you want to save time and aggravation heading downtown to get your tourist visa. (106)

I think it's great that the campus offers students an ability to make/renew passports. I really appreciate it. What I don't appreciate: Racism. I came in today to get a new passport and when I entered, the worker (an elderly white women) working here was helping a white female student. (I included race for a reason). The worker was very sweet and offered advice and help to the student. But after the student left, it was my turn to get helped. Even before I sat down, I knew she wasn't going to treat me the same as she did with the other student because of the way she looked at me. Maybe it was because I wasn't white. Maybe it's because I'm Korean. I don't know. But once I sat down, she started talking to me as if I'm stupid. Questioning everything I had in my passport application. I missed a couple spots and while I was filling them out she dared to say with a smirk "you aren't very good at filling out forms". She talked slow to me as if I didn't speak English or understand what she was saying. I ignored her and when I gave my passport picture to her, she did not believe it was me!!! I am furious because she even said "They (whoever "they" are) won't accept this picture because this picture isn't you" I took my 2 passport pictures 1-2 months ago but held off the process because I never had time to come to the office. I understand that I didn't make make up on, and that I was breaking out (like a regular human) but she kept on insisting that the picture I was giving in wasn't me. I didn't have some drastic plastic surgery. I didn't do some extravagant make up on my picture either. I am baffled by the service and how rude she was to me. She asked me when I took the picture and I told her 1-2 months and she said "No it has to be longer. This doesn't even look like you". It's disgusting to witness such different treatment because of my race. Very disgusting. I understand Buffalo has a majority white population, but to be judged because she can't comprehend how Asian people look was discouraging. I hope this office hires someone cultured. Or at least someone who isn't going to treat others differently simply because of ones race.

My experience with UB Passport Office was just horrible. At…read morefirst, I thought I was lucky that I can just drop by the place on campus but it turned out to be unpleasant and upsetting. A staff at the office demanded not only my driver's license but also another photo ID and my SSN card even though the driver's license alone should be enough as a primary evidence. (Secondary IDs are needed only when you cannot provide primary evidence.) I thought it was odd but I rationalized her demand because she must know better than me since it is her job and I was totally new to getting a U.S. passport. So I decided to follow 'her instruction' and get a secondary photo ID. She told me to get a new UB card with my new legal name on it. FYI, getting a new UB card costs $13.5. Long story short, the new UB card was rejected (by the same staff who suggested me get it lol) and found presumably unacceptable because the new version of UB card carries the legal name on its backside and the preferred name on the front. Finally, I gave up on UB passport office and went to a local post office. They were quick and professional. They only asked for my driver license. No one asked for secondary photo ID or SSN card. I still don't understand why UB passport office asked for more IDs than what is required by the government. The government website states "You must present one primary ID which includes your photo. If you cannot present one of the primary photo IDs below, please present a combination of at least two secondary IDs." (https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/passports/requirements/identification.html) UB Passport office want you to bring BOTH a primary ID AND two secondary IDs. I would like to suggest you think twice before going to the UB passport office, especially if you are a naturalized immigrant.
