Myplace was the place to be back in 2015-2017. Everyone remembers when it was located in Chinatown square. Then it got moved to Wabash and now it's back in the Chinatown area. This time, it comes with free parking in the back! Myplace has a unique breakfast menu, lunch menu, and regular menu items. I enjoy the breakfast menu because it comes with a drink. I like to come here when I just want a simple meal. No frills, no extras, just simple food. Myplace has a lot of the traditional hk style food items like French toast, beef brisket noodle, lemon tea, etc. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I would say that Myplace is friendly for all ages! Whether you're meeting up with friends or having a quick bite, Myplace is the place to be.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] For food, the noodle never disappoints. It's flavorful and good portion size. A popular item would be the beef brisket rice noodle! It warms you up on a cold day. I also like getting the iced lemon tea! So good! When I went with my friend the other day, we got beef chow fun, curry beef over rice, and fried mantou. We were so full by the end of the meal!

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Ambiance - mid level noise restaurant filled with families and couples looking for a light and fast lunch[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service - it was super packed on a Monday for lunch, felt like I had to fight for servers attention Food - 10/10, generous potion of shredded duck and the hor fun was cooked to how I like, soup was also steaming hot! Their milk tea is my absolute go to!

I grew up in Hong Kong and cafes (cha chaan teng) like My Place have a very special place in my heart. There are seemingly not many places like this in Chicago anymore, especially after the pandemic. Certainly even fewer that hit the intersection of fast service, affordable prices, and most importantly, delicious food. In my opinion, My Place fulfills all those criteria. While it's not quite in Chinatown, I really like their location especially the free parking in the back. This restaurant has excellent specials with breakfast from 11-2 and then afternoon tea from 2-5. For one price, you can get a full-sized meal plus a drink! Some of the entrees I really like are the Portuguese Chicken baked rice and the Satay Beef noodle soup. My favorite drink is their Hong Kong milk tea which is probably some of the silkiest and most authentic I've had in Chicago. The best part? These specials are available on weekends. Service is going to be as-expected for a Hong Kong cafe; you have to get the staff's attention or else they're just going to walk right past you. Once you get tell them what you need, they'll take care of it really efficiently. You know I'll be back soon. Food: 4.5/5 Service: 4/5 Price: 4.75/5 Ambiance: 4.25/5 Overall: 4.5/5

The perfect Hong Kong-style cafe with huge tables! This place was absolutely packed on a Sunday lunch around 2pm. We were able to fit 12-15 people! Their menu is such a great deal, especially for breakfast and afternoon tea sets that come with a drink. The service was efficient despite our huge table. Shredded chicken and corn with baked spaghetti ($8.95) 4/5 - creamy yet light at the same time! A generous portion of shredded chicken baked with cheese on top! I always love any baked dish from an HK style cafe. This could've used a bit more flavor though! Ovaltine drink 5/5 - comes with the set menu! Such a nostalgic drink! Hot is included, but you can pay an extra $1.50 to have it served cold.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant is bigger than it looks outside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Part of their menu is like the Hong Kong cafes with milk tea, congee, noodles, etc. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There are 2-3 large round tables with lazy susans that can fit 10 people like the traditional Chinese restaurants.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] At their new location on State street, there is a parking lot behind the restaurant or paid street parking outside which is convenient. I came for their afternoon (2pm-5pm) menu which is a bargain. The set menu comes with a drink, toast, scrambled eggs, and an entrée. The portion was definitely dinner size portions. Their milk tea taste very authentic. The Portugese rice curry sauce taste OK. It is Chinese curry which is less sweet. This dish traditionally requires baking as the less step for the rice to soak in the curry sauce, but it felt like they just poured the curry on top. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It is OK for a quick bite, but less of a showcase place.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] If I find the time, I'll try their breakfast menu next time.

    240. Pea Tips with Garlic , spicy cumin lamb, lemon pork(?? Forgot its name), a beef dish with wide noodles (but no wide, so we got thin)

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Homely cantonese place, so good!![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Quick and good portions. Good selection of dishes too. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Def come w friends![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The hk news tv is a great touch lol adds to the vibe[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

If your looking for Hong Kong style breakfast this is the place to go! They offer free parking but not a lot of spots. It was packed when we went but we got seated pretty quick. Restaurant was nicely decorated with pictures of HongKong. Great friendly staff. I ordered Fish Ball Noodle soup and Ham and Macaroni soup. Both broth were very tasty , felt like I was in HK. As for the drink I ordered Hong Kong style Milk tea and Ice Lemon tea both fantastic. The only thing I was not a fan of is how the food came out. First they would come out with one dish 5 mins later and so on but other then that great experience. So much more I want to try , I'll definitely be back.

Great setup indoor and outdoor with great deals on unique cantonese food! Price $12 including meal, tip, and drink. | Rating 9/10 Pros: Unique dishes, Low price, good drinks. Cons: None. Girlfriend brought me here for "Tea Time" and we decided to sit outside. The whole places feels lovingly designed with a modern feeling but also quaint things like lazy susan and plants on the rails. Service is basic and that is perfect for me. Staff will take your order, refill your drinks, and leave you in peace until you want a bill. The food and its price was the true winner! For $9 you get a large rice or noodle meal with a drink! The dishes are not basic Ameri-Chinese food either. The Portuguese Chicken baked rice was one most different and delicious things I have tried with a mild spiced curry on top, plenty of protein, and a side of toast and egg! Incredible deal under $10. Highly recommend this place on any of their special dining meals and I bet their standard meals are worthwhile too!

Small restaurant located outside of Chinatown. They have a breakfast menu and an afternoon tea menu which they priced generously. You get a dish and a drink for $9. Service was okay. Food was okay. I got the duck noodles soup. Broth was pretty good. The Hong Kong milk tea was okay. I would get this combo again.

Haven't been to my place since they moved from Chicago Chinatown to Wabash and don't think I will visit again. When we first arrived there was no greeting. Not very friendly. We got the afternoon tea special for $8.95 and not very good. Both of our drinks Yin Yang (coffee and tea) and lemon honey smelled bad. My hubby ordered the beef brisket noodle soup and it was so little and not great. I ordered the satay beef vermicelli and it was tasteless and noodles were mushy. Overall I was super disappointed and I probably won't be over back again.

This used to be my husband and my favorite Chinese restaurant when it was in Chinatown. During Covid, they were priced out of their location and moved to Wabash. At first it was okay, but then it progressively got worse. Finally they moved back to the Chinatown area and seem to have their old staff back? They just opened a couple weeks ago. Everything was just as I remember. We have been there twice now. The first time we ordered the salt and pepper shrimp, garlic pea tips, hand shredded chicken, and fish filet with chili pepper. The salt and pepper shrimp was EXCELLENT. Perfect fried and flavored. The garlic pea tips were also good. Fresh and well flavored. However, it did lack the wok flavor of the original location; hoping it will come back in time. The hand shredded chicken was also good. The fish filet was decent, but could use the ground szcechuan pepper flakes it used to have (and is quite frankly featured on the menu picture). We went back today and it was the same excellent quality. We ordered the deep fried quail, cumin lamb, and salt and pepper squid. The deep fried quail was fried nicely. Though I did as for a salt and pepper dip (which they used to do) instead of the duck sauce that they now serve it with. The cumin lamb was excellent. The pieces of lamb were thick and juicy and had the perfect amount of fresh red onions, green onions, and cilantro; very good spice combo. The salt and pepper shrimp was also excellent. Same level of quality as the shrimp from the first time we went. Service is typical of Chinese restaurants. Don't expect fine dining but they are friendly. They were extremely busy but responded fast when you called them over. The ambiance was of a typical Chinese restaurant. Simple. But not hole in the wall.

We ordered like the PERFECT amount of food and best variety. Roast duck: I honestly don't know if I've ever had duck before, but I'm a duck believer now. The skin on theirs was the perfect crispy shatter texture and the duck was sooooo juicy! I don't know why I was always so worried about it being gamey. They give you fluffy steamed bao buns, a sauce, and scallions on the side as well as duck fried rice! Turnip cake: Obviously a must any time I come to dim sum. I've never seen turnip in any other form than this. Japanese salt & pepper tofu: My FAVORITE dish ever. Any fried salt & pepper tofu always makes me happy. They use a creamy egg-like tofu and the outside is lightly crispy with amazing aromatics stir fried in. Steamed white rice on the side is perfect with this. Loved everything else my dinner buds picked and we were super full by the end! Service was good and food came out fast and scorching hot! ***Parking in the area is treacherous (not the restaurants fault, but reconsider driving if possible bc cell signal can be zero to none around the garages if you get lucky) ***Their website allows you to request a reservation as long as it's 3 hours before your desired time. We came on a Saturday evening around dinner time and there was plenty of room for us to get a table immediately as walk-ins!

I went with someone who knows the city well, and they recommended the duck fried rice. I had never tried it before, and it was absolutely delicious so flavorful and satisfying. The prices were very reasonable for the quality of the food, and I'm already looking forward to bringing my friends and family here next time. This is a tough one. Not happy at all. With all of the wonderful legendary Chinese places closing…read moreover the past few years (Kow Kow, Hong Min, Pekin House, and even the best egg rolls at Mee Mah), Sun Wah has been solid over the years- their whole duck is legendary and incredible. BUT, as wonderful as the food is, the last 5 visits have been dreadful. The angry waitresses are part of the deal, but when we're spending a few hundred bucks on dinner, enough is enough. Asking for extra sauce and being told NO- asking for extra bao wrappers and being told NO, asking for extra daikon for the duck when we're given a half full dish in the first place in unacceptable. And like I said, that's part of the deal. And the food is so good that you put up with it. But what happened last week was the last straw. We ordered egg rolls, 2 large dumpling soups, pot stickers, a whole duck, medium ribs, sweet and sour chicken, and for an appetizer, a medium BBQ pork. When the server brought the pork, first, it was cold. I guess that's also the deal. Sometimes it's hot, sometimes totally cold. But this time, and I'm not exaggerating, more than half of the order was pure white fat. Not fatty pork, white solid fat. we tried chewing git to see if there was any meat, but no. So, I finally got the servers attention and showed her. She looked at it, and then walked away. I assumed she was going to bring us a new order. Instead, the owner walked over. I showed her the 2 plates- 1 plate with half of the solid white fat, and the other plate with chewed up fat pieces. Instead of apologizing and bringing over a new order, she said "sometimes the pigs we get are very fatty". So I replied something like "sure I get that, but you can't serve this to customers" and " can you please bring us a new order of actual pork and not just a plate of fat"??? and she then looks down at both plates and says "you already ate it so we can't do anything. I tell her that, no, I didn't eat anything- you can see a plate with chewed up and spit out fat, but she literally WALKS AWAY. So then of course we wait for her to bring a new order over, but that never happens. And we're loyal customers for many many years, and she knows us. This extreme lack of care for your longtime customers is nauseating. Like I said, we've put up with it for years because we love the food (as well as putting up with the many health code violations over the years), but after this huge fuck you from the owner over a few bucks worth of pork? We're done. And our friends are done. This rude pathetic refusal to admit that you're serving inedible food and take care of your loyal customers with a few dollars in pork will now cost you THOUSANDS of dollars every year, because we have now told 20 of our friends to stop going, and they all agreed with us. Bad move Momma SunWah..........

A few dishes, like the Duck Fried Rice, Pork Belly, and Beef Noodle Soup, were actually pretty solid. But the rest of the night was just so frustrating that I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. The Jiaozi were the first big letdown. The menu said they were beef short rib and bone marrow, but they didn't taste like that at all. The filling was just super mushy and the flavor was just weird. The manager and the food runner were nice when we mentioned it, but our actual server was a disaster. When we tried the Goat Noodles, all we could taste was cumin. It was so overwhelming that it covered up everything else. We couldn't even tell if there was actually any goat shoulder in there. When we told our waiter, she couldn't care less. She got totally defensive, wouldn't even listen to us, and just said, "Oh, I told you when you ordered that the dish is cumin forward" and walked away. It got worse when the bill came. She was holding on to the payment machine so hard and almost yanked it right out of my friend's hand. She was staring at it to see what we were tipping. It was so awkward and incredibly rude.
