I had remembered coming to the bistro 10 or so years ago once when i lived here. I was staying in the Earls court area , and remembered it and did the short walk over. Lovely friendly service with well prepared food and a small , but fine selection of wine which changes i guess regularly. I had a couple of glasses of Chateau Contenac-Brown to complement (kind of) a grilled octopus , thickly sliced with cauliflower purée, and a black ink tortellini with crab. Some cheese to finish. All wonderful . Near the conclusion i messaged a few friends after spying a 2010 Chateau LasCombes on the menu that i felt needed to be had and shared. The staff decanted and 15 minutes or so later my friends arrived and we emptied it. I highly recommend this casual be high quality bistro on the edge of South Kensington.

My companion and I each opted for the prix fixe "journey" dinner, with about 4-5 small plates with accompanying cocktails. I chose the Eastern tinged "Silk Road" and my companion went for the "Castilian." The small plates were beautifully presented and had about two to three bites. My journey featured duck, crisp rolls, perfectly cooked fish, and other tasty tidbits. Even the runner was wonderfully cordial, filled with smiles. I would definitely return, even to just sit at the fun bar and people watch.

Asked for medium rare, came bleu, not exactly the most tender piece of meat but this, this was dreadful. Fatty throughout, with tough stuff, the bone had some meat but not enough to take off nor was the meat tender enough. (See photo posted). Pure and simple, the meat was a joke. The manager excuse didn't work for me. After such a disappointment of a meal, we wanted to leave , although we would sit there for a while until service resumed again. Bill please! Let's get out now! Never again.

We shared several dishes: Ruskie dumplings (cheese, potato, and onion); marinated herring with apple and creamed onion; pan-fried fillet of cod with horseradish sauce and sauteed spinach; and beef goulash with brandy served with buckwheat. Everything was delicious - but the dish of the night was the cod - I'd eat that weekly. They sadly weren't able to make me a martini (they couldn't have been out of vodka, so I assumed they had run out of vermouth?), but I had a nice glass of Polish wine, while my husband had some Polish beer. The restaurant is charming - understated and comfortable and well-lit. The service wasn't the most welcoming (our server was fairly friendly, but the hostess was not), but it was still a very nice dinner. It's a great place for a meal if you're looking for a place with history and great food! Polish was a great change of pace from our other meals!

Even better than I remember and I learned a lot more about the restaurant such as it was Princess Diana's favorite pizza shop AND they developed the sauce for PizzaExpress. The person who waited on us was so lovely! And the restaurant is so tastefully decorated. Their appetizer bread steals the show every time! Cannot wait to go back on my next visit to London!
