I was lucky enough to have stumbled across MyKitchen. My now-husband and I wanted a short engagement and gave ourselves 3 months to put together a wedding. We were also busy with work so time was severely limited. Dhanny made the whole process incredibly easy. She was communicative and understands how to plan and run a wedding. I basically handed the reins over to her. We used the City Hall Wedding Reception package which helped streamline planning and kept us to our budget. The package includes appetizers and a pre-fixed menu where you get to choose from various entrees and sides. My 65 guests were raving about the food. The only thing I needed to do were centerpieces and order the cake. She has many types of set-ups, tables, chairs, table linen, etc to choose from. Since Dhanny is familiar with many wedding vendors, she was able to recommend florists, bakeries, and officiants. The space itself looks elegant with dark hardwood floors and lots of natural light, there is also a beautiful patio (but our wedding was 2/22 so it was still a tad bit cold to have the ceremony outside). Day of the wedding, we could enjoy ourselves because Dhanny and her team were ensuring everything went off without a hitch. Horrific! The service is terrible. The owner is rude and has no manners! To start off, when we walked into My Kitchen, you can tell the air condtion was not on. (NOT OK for an 85 degree day.) Then, after paying for a full open bar was greeted to WARM beer and was told there was NO ICE! To no-ones surprise 2 hours into the bridal shower My Kitchen had ran out of beer. The owner lied and said he had plenty in the basement as we watched one of his employees return with beer from 7-11. And still, there was not enough! The food was not good. Shrimp paella was smothered in oil, served with sausage and only 2 shrimp, the "chicken parmesean" was not your usual chicken parmesean. Some guests at the party had suggested it may have been a lean cuisine meal. Thats how bad it was and looked. The salmon entree was well overcooked, and the steak was all fat and not cooked to the guests liking. The beautiful cake that we had brought in from a different vendor was cut by the owner without permission before the bride-to-be was able to take pictures in front of it with her family & friends. Ten minutes before the party was schedueled to end, the owner was not embarrassed to announce we all had to leave. BUT it was a pleasure to have been asked to leave as there were no drinks left and it was HOT. Before leaving a guest asked for a glass of water she was given warm water and was told there was no ice left! While being rude and vicious to all of the guest the owner also made insulting remarks calling someone "trash." On a better note I am glad to say the bride-to-be had a delightful day, and not one person at the event will be back there to wine or dine! Advice to anyone holding an event there: bring a portable AC, your own beer and ice maybe a snack or two for after dinner and try your hardest not to associate with the owner! read more

My Kitchen is under NEW OWNERSHIP!!!!It's rare these days that you get a true family dining experience outside of the house. At My Kitchen, Dhanny and Joe gave us just that. Delicious food, made to order. The Strawberry and Gorgonzola spinach salad was absolutely amazing. When we asked if it was really sweet, we were told it could be made so it wouldn't be very sweet. Now that's family style! The grilled striped bass over vegetables was perfectly cooked and lightly seasoned. The Hanger steak can be prepared with or without the spice rub, very good. Lobster bisque, healthy portion, could be your meal. Spicy, flavorful. I could go on but, who wants to read all that. Just one last important thing...GLUTEN FREE dishes and pasta!!! They get it, you don't even have to explain. They can make sauces substituting corn starch for flour. Need I say more...plus you will definitely have a full meal left over the portions are so large. We came here last month after the movies and we loved it. The salmon was perfect, very moist and served with julienne zucchini. Very clean and fresh. honestly i dont even remember what my entree was there... it was one of those to not remember dishes. it was dark chicken pieces, with potatoes and who knows what else all stewed up together.... like a goulash. it was bland and just reminded me of some dish you throw together cuz you have a lot of leftovers and dont wanna waste it. for appetizer we had some tomato mozzarella dish, and that was pretty bland too. wont be coming here again. read more

We returned to My Kitchen for the first time after change of ownership and were very impressed! We're always on the lookout for quality dining in Forest Hills so we were really pleased when our evening turned into a memorable one. The new owners are more committed to quality then the previous owners were. Service was exceptional. Food was exceptional especially the oxtail stew which was wonderfully seasoned with a rich sauce. This food was horrible-We had the worst paella, half the mussels and clams we not opened. The food was ice cold. My wife got sick. She had to lay down in a booth to keep from throwing up. Dhanny was the greatest. Our ceremony was quite short notice but Dhanny helped us every step of the way, from decor to flowers, the photographer and the cake. You name it. Without her help, our ceremony would not have been possible. We would highly recommend My Kitchen, if not only for Dhanny and Chef Joe, but the place is also wonderful. If you are in the mood for something different, I'd recommend this is the place. It's hard to describe but I'd say the dishes we had all had a unique taste. You don't get the feeling that "it's good, but as good as XYZ restaurant." Rather, you leave feeling like you had a new experience. The only downside, the food takes a long time. I can honestly say that I haven't seen any other restaurants around here manage to get a C - even the skeeziest-looking Chinese take out seem to never go lower than a B. I hosted a bridal shower here recently. While the room is bright and airy and the tables were decorated with beautiful orchids. the service left a lot to be desired. The wine bottles were on each table, a pitcher of water, but no soda or beer (I was promised free beer and when someone asked for a beer, they were told that they had none!!!). I went behind the bar and served my guests some Coke. The owner came over to me and told me not to go behind his bar so I said that if his staff would serve my guests the way they were supposed to, I wouldn't have to go behind his bar. Can you imagine? Needless to say, no one got soda except for those few people that I served. The tomato/mozzarella/pepper appetizer was delicious. I ordered penne a la vodka for the next course but I got pasta primavera. Penne vodka is my daughter's favorite dish but she didn't even get it for her shower. The main course was either salmon, chicken or beef. My salmon was OK, my daughter's chicken was not good, and the beef was so rare that quite a few people couldn't eat it. A few sent it back to be cooked some more and, when it was returned to them, it was still rare so they just left it. I opted for a dessert table instead of occasion cake and this was very very good. However, I asked the waiters to serve coffee - they would serve a few cups and that would be it. I would ask them where the rest of the coffee is and they said they were making a fresh pot. This went on and on and on so some people actually left without their coffee. The kicker to all of this is that my party was from 1 to 5PM. At 4:55 a young waitress came over to me and told me that I had to leave because they had to clean up. We were all saying our good-byes at this point anyway; we were told a second time to leave so I walked out the door and never looked back. I had booked this party way back in the beginning of 2012 and mine was the only party on that date. They booked another party in the restaurant part at the same time as mine so they were completely understaffed. The few helpers that they did have were young kids with absolutely no experience. I can assure you that I will never host another party at this restaurant. read more

I held a very special event in their next door catering room. My husband & I started planning this June party in April. When we arrived on the day of the party there was no air conditioning. It was 98 degrees outside and no air conditioning...in 2010, I would never have even thought to ask whether or not they have air conditioning. 4 of my guests had to leave after only being there for a half an hour because of health conditions they were experiencing due to the extreme heat. That is why My Kitchen always has the doors open in the summer...it's not to add ambiance...its because they don't have air conditioning. We literally had the worst experience and were so embarrassed the next day. We paid $85 a head and people thought we paid $20. I was mortified...they ran out of food and the alcohol was hot! Imagine being in a 98 degree room and asking for a drink and getting something warm. It was awful...the butter on our plates for the bread melted. This restaurant should be closed, Galek is such terrible business owner..he makes you feel like he is doing you a favor with everything that he does. If you care about the party that you are throwing and paying good money for GO SOMEWHERE ELSE! I was heartbroken and embarrassed by our party. read more

Needless to say an all around disappointment. Lets start with the owner, rude, curt and disrespectful. Should of been a clue. Had a bridal shower and asked specifically for non poached fish, well that didn't work. The fish was poached. The only other entree available was chicken and several people complained to me that it was undercooked.Took a very long time for food to be served because I think he (the owner) is the only chef Waitstaff extremely inexperienced and did not even know what they were serving. Had an open bar, which was needed due to the long wait for the food however the bartenders were all inexperienced and did not know one drink from another. Asked the owner to be careful about spelling of the brides name on the cake, a small thing but that didn't work either, her name was misspelled and he (the owner) blamed me for the error. I think i know how to spell my childs name. So what is positive,the place is nicely decorated and has a pleasant outdoor patio, Forest Hills is lovely, and it was nice to be back home where the bride grew up. So my recommendation is to not host a party of any importance here, Forest Hills has many other options available. read more

It was Easter Sunday night, and raining, if that makes up at all for the bizarre experience my boyfriend and I had. We walk in there and there's no hostess or anyone to seat us, only one table of diners drinking wine. We stand there clueless as to where the staff are. After 3 minutes, my boyfriend sits down, as do I. A few minutes later, the one table that is there looks on the other side of the restaurant and comes back a minute later with what aapeared to be the owner of the restaurant, to request his check. The owner gives the table their check and then grabs 2 paper menus and heads over to our table. After looking at the menu, I ask the man a question about a dish, and he does not explain what it is, he merely repeats it's delicious, it;s delicious. Still, confused, I have my boyfriend order first. He wanted to try all 3 appetizers they had, we were starving. The man had a hard time wrapping his brain around that one too. Then I told the man, we needed time to look over the entrees. He said, "No, I 'll give you a couple more minutes, because I have to put the order in all together." My boyfriend had the pleasure of being the closer one to the man, and he said he smelled of alcohol. I believe it because this guy had to be drunk the way he was behaving. We stormed out and went to another restaurant on Metropolitan Ave. which was really good. I'll yelp about that experience too. read more

Dhanny and Chef Joe are the most sincere and reliable people a couple planning a wedding could ask for. Their space is perfect for smaller-intimate wedding numbers (ours was 60 and it was perfect!). Chef Joe's food was one of the most celebrated comments from our wedding goers and the professionalism of their staff was on point. The versatility of their space is perfect for a couple who may not know exactly what they want to do right as they begin planning. Dhanny was very accommodating to our shifting ideas and sometimes lack of direction. We felt comfortable and confident in her opinions and suggestions. The final product was what we had desired from the beginning. Dhanny was able to channel our (at times, incoherent) thoughts and helped us plan a ceremony and reception that was completely representation of who we are as a couple. This venue is a hidden gem in Forest Hills, Queens, and New York at large. You will not regret this venue decision. read more

DO NOT DINE HERE. THE ESTABLISHMENT IS TOO CHINSY TO HAVE AN AIR CONDITIONER. We booked a 2nd birthday party for our little girl. The OWNER was not happy with the amount of children we were planning to have. HELLO, IT'S A KIDS PARTY. THE OWNER THREATENED MY WIFE, telling her if anything gets destroyed in his place, he'll cancel the party right in the middle of it. He also tried to ridicule her for asking too many questions. They only offered one chicken dish, implying he can do anything he wants, it's his restaurant. He also accused her of asking too many questions when she wanted to know what kind of soft drinks are there for the kids. Before we had this run in, after the party was booked, we had a meal there. We found the portions very small at high prices, and they screwed up the bill. The owner has no compassion for his customers and the only thing he did right was return our deposit back to us. NEW OWNERS at MY KITCHEN for over a year! Chef Joe and Dhanni deserve better. Since June 2013 when I first contracted very successful events: (Grandmother's four-generations birthday celebration 30 people; grammar school reunion for 54 people; attendees between service at Funeral Parlor, I have dined with my friends and family at their specialty dinner CLAMBAKE, CURRIED CRAB, PIZZA SPECIAL, PAELLA and SOFT SHELL CRAB & LOBSTER events as well as just stopping by any night they are open and enjoyed their summer afternoon backyard light menu. My currrent comfort menu is Thai Watermelon salad, crab cake appetizer and Pasta Carbonara. The reviews on this site can be misleading. Yes, they did not change the name but the reviews of the former owners should be separated from theirs. If a new restaurant with the same name can move from Glendale to Forest Hills can separate the reviews, I think the same can be done for MY KITCHEN -- same name but totally different people, attitude and cuisine from the former owners on this review site. read more

Unfortunately tonight, I was at a dinner event at My Kitchen and had an awful experience with the restaurant itself. A group of close friends and I had a dinner party for about 25 people in their "private" room. We paid for a dinner for 25 people, a head count given one week in advance. We were there from 7pm to 9:45pm and received the following food spread buffet style: A small basket of garden salad, bowl of dressing, tiny cheese squares/crackers/breadsticks/mini strawberries platter for 10, and then the main dish--- three tiny round mini pizza platters (4" wide, 6" tall slices), oh and a tiny bowl of grated cheese and pepper spice. There were water pitchers, 2 apple juice pitchers, and 2 orange juice pitchers along with a urn of hot water, urn of decaf coffee only, and one jar of milk. We brought our own dessert, thankfully. The food "spread" was made for 10 people and was never replenished. We paid for pizza and a variety of pasta dishes and never saw the pasta. The service staff was unseen throughout the night and snickered when asked to provide regular coffee instead of just decaf. Eventually, they put out a small pot like it was an inconvenience. I won't be back to this restaurant again and encourage you not to frequent this deceiving restaurant that serves 25 people finger food enough for 10 people on a pizza/pasta night, calls it dinner, and charges as much as they do.
