Steak sub
Michael A.

This place has been raved about by folks that I know, and with good reason. This time I got the steak sub....it deserves its reputation. The onions and peppers and mushrooms were all perfectly caramelized and paired so well with the thinly sliced steak. All this piled on crusty fluffy bread....mmm mmm mmm Great place to stop after a hike to re fuel and warm up.

Large Supreme Pizza

Place was packed but they moved people thru quickly. We had the supreme and in my 66 years this could be the best pizza I have ever had. Fun atmosphere and plenty of help. Full menu for even the pickiest of eaters. What a great tip from the Hampton Inn.

The sign of great food!

The best meal we had on our trip!!! Please make it a point to eat here. It was recommended to me by a gentleman I was passing in a parking lot to a neighboring establishment. He spoke of the best whipped ricotta dip and great pizza. So we drive back from Asheville for dinner. The ricotta lived up to his review plus some! Split a Hawaiian pizza which was excellent. Had we found this earlier in our trip, it would have been a regular experience. Madison was the perfect waitress informative, engaging and appropriately attentive when a Friday night rush could have distracted her to the basic service. The ambiance is family comfortable with a mountain chill.

Very tasty and fresh tasting pizza. We had friendly staff taking our orders. Very cute spot to grab pizza at.

Monza (GF crust, vegan cheese)
Luca D.

Service and ambiance lasted about 20 minutes, but was worth the wait. I got a Monza on a GF crust and with vegan cheese, which is basically a Philly cheesesteak pizza with onions and mushrooms. The crust had a good crunch to it, and the whole thing tasted like a Philly cheesesteak with tomatoes due to the sauce. Overall, this was twice as good as I expected.

Chicken parm sub

The atmosphere is very comfortable (like an old-school pizza parlor), our server was friendly, and we enjoyed everything we ordered. OUR ORDER - cheese pizza. Good crisp crust and nicely seasoned sauce. 4/5 - Cheesy breadsticks. We would probably not order them with cheese again -- the breadsticks were delicious but the cheese overwhelmed them a bit. 3.5/5 - Meatballs - nicely seasoned and abundant. 4/5 - Chicken Parmesan sub - good crunch to outside of the bread. It was good, but I was surprised that it was grilled chicken rather than fried and there was less cheese than expected. The pickle was excellent. 4/5

I visited here once ~25 years ago and kept trying to come back, but the parking situation around downtown Black Mountain is intense. Today, I drove around for 15 minutes before finally spotting someone backing out of a spot within walking distance of My Father's Pizza. With that being said, this is a gem of a restaurant. The food was exactly what we needed-- fast, creative, fresh, and flavorful. The prices were totally reasonable as well. The indoors has almost a dive bar type feel, so don't worry about dressing up to visit. Our server was very friendly and got everything to us as it was ready. All in all, My Father's Pizza is as good as it was 25 years ago, so they must be doing something right!

The service was second to none! Everyone very polite and joyful! The pizza was delicious as well. Will surely be back to try other dishes.

Roasted chicken sub - no cheese no onions

My family and I came here for dinner on a Saturday night. It was pretty busy but we were seated right away. It was very loud inside the restaurant. The waitress was friendly, however the food took a while to come out. I ordered a sub without cheese and onions and it was really good. It tasted fresh and the bread was soft. My family tried the margarita pizza and two salads which they also enjoyed. Overall I'd say that is a nice spot for pizza, just be aware that it can be pretty loud and the food might take a while to come out.

Worst lasagna I have ever had. So greasy and disgusting. I only ate a few bites but I had heartburn for 2 days.

Not great. Nice servers but the crust is yeastless and ver hard and tasteless. Its very dense and dry, minimal sauce as well.

Beyond the local and regional beers, the food is outstanding like their tender, crispy, and juicy fried chicken sandwich enveloped in creamy mayo and crunchy pickles. They also have a selection of burgers and appetizers like the tender and delicious chicken wings, as well as sides like crunchy tots. We watched Tennessee beat Alabama here and listened to a singer song-writer after. They also have a great selection of Black Mountain Brewery and other local brews from around the region. My favorite was the IFFY Pumpkin Ale from Hillman Old Fort. Plus, we stumbled upon their Oktoberfest so we got to enjoy live Polka band and stein holding competition! It was a nailbiter.

We went down the stairs (it is in a basement) and there were maybe 8-10 people at the bar and a lady behind the bar. We sat down at a table and it became obvious were were being ignored. I went up to the bar and asked for a menu and she said "Oh, we are all sold out of food". Really at 4:30 PM? We got the hint and went back up the stairs to civilization, walked across the street to Father's Pizza and had a great meal. If you are from out of town don't waste your time.

It boasts the second highest average ratings of all the restaurants with more than 100 reviews on the entire highway. So the public holds this pizza joint in high esteem. Does it measure up? Well ... The building is a sprawling complex, a hip and quirky place with the pizzeria in the middle, dine-in tables in the room to the right, and an arcade and ice cream parlor in the room to the left. I love the atmosphere, the multiple rooms decorated by posters and pictures from the '80s and action figures and collectibles up high. Now, the garlic knots here are pretty good! They're not the best I've ever had, but very much worth ordering. But the Spinach Artichoke Cheesebread is just odd. I love spinach artichoke dip and that's exactly the flavor you get. But it came out room temperature covered with melted cheese, tasting like something that sat around on the counter for hours. The temperature kind of ruined it, cold spinach dip on mediocre bread with melted cheese that had cooled long ago. And the cheese pizza was okay, but it wasn't memorable by any means. It was just ordinary but not extraordinary. I don't fully get the stellar ratings here. But I do think it's a cool road trip stop.

My husband enjoyed the roasted turkey with cornbread dressing. Again the portions were plentiful and the plating showed the kitchen's pride by making sure everything looked as good it tasted. Not like the typical artificial banana flavoring you'd find in a candy. It was sweetened just enough and topped with little vanilla wafer pieces. We were only inside for a short period of time, but this was a really cute place with comfy seating and a calm, quiet vibe. Staff were friendly and efficient. Thankfully they have a parking lot so there's lots of parking available just outside. I was surprised it was so small for how busy it is (and inevitably always is, being in a tourist town)... the seating is cozy, but not plentiful. There didn't seem to be nearly enough chairs for the number of tables. There was plenty of space for a line of about 10 people which is good because it stayed that way for the 35-40min we were there. Friends and I ordered off the seasonal menu - the Ron Weasley was a popular order with chocolate, ginger and orange peel added to a latte. One of my GF friends was delighted to have an almond coffee cake and GF muffin. The croissants were nice, though not made of the pastry dough you'd expect - they were not at all flaky. Still, options were available for savory as well as sweet and everyone left with a fully belly and caffeinated. Mission accomplished!
