High five for HiFi Kitchen!…read more Located a block away from the Historic Filipinotown arch, this cozy spot is worth a stop. I finally had the chance to visit this brick-and-mortar after experiencing their food on two occasions. Once was at a catered event at SIPA, and another was at a pop-up at FPAC. During that catered event at SIPA, I had the Vegetarian HiFi Sisig which has tofu, eggplant, & shiitake, onions, peppers, and vegan mayo. I was obsessed with how good this was and was hoping there would be leftover for baon. But I also didn't want to be greedy...lol! Then at FPAC, they offered Veggie Sisig Tacos. Similar ingredients, except in a corn tortilla. Again, obsessed! https://yelp.to/b419aFUgE- Craving that yummy sisig, I walked into HiFI Kitchen's brick-and-mortar, eager to partake once again. Sadly, they were out of tofu. But the gal behind the counter was willing to modify by going extra on the veggies for my Vegetarian HiFi Sisig bowl. At first glance the portion size didn't quite meet my expectation of what I would consider a $17 veggie bowl that lacked tofu and nixed the egg, but it was surprisingly filling! And maraming masarap! https://yelp.to/tW6yKt2uDg Also masarap is the Pandan Horchata Latte. Yum! https://yelp.to/prcFhvC2jO Staff is very helpful. The decor embraces the hifi theme (high fidelity in this case) of old media such as using an audio tape case to store napkins and utensils, or having a VHS tape rewinder mounted on the wall. There's a single table indoors, bar-height counter for extra dining, and a few more tables out front. When I arrived, there was a family of 3 in there. By the time I sat down, three parties of 2 formed a line at the register. Popular spot! Street parking was fairly easy at 1pm on a Saturday. Would easily make a stop here anytime I'm in HiFi. Happy to support a small Filipino business :)

A humble Filipino spot that took me back to my childhood. I'm not Filipina but I have a deep…read morerespect and connection to the community as I grew up with many Filipino friends. This place is so cozy and welcoming I can't wait to go back! Initial Impression: There is a cute patio area for dining outside on these lingering warm days in LA. The inside is decorated with homages to Filipino culture, art, creators, all while playing 90s R&B. My favorite spot was the cassette holder (Gen Z it's an old technology and kinda hard to explain in a review), but it's holds the cutlery! I thought that was so cool! Service: The kind Tita at the front was super sweet and welcoming. There are small tables inside as well as seating at the window for car/people watching. I was in and out of there rather quickly with delicious food in hand. Food: Now here's where I was thrown back to my childhood, I grew up in a mixed community and I used to walk to a spot where I could get a whole box of Lumpia for $5. Their after school menu is a whole blessing and with that spiced vinegar, just thinking about it makes my mouth water. They also had a tasty Ube upside down pie and it was the perfect treat to balance out the savory lumpia. They have plenty of other eats to try, and I can't wait to go back for more!

We spent weeks going back and forth on equipment selection and system design for a $40K home…read moretheater project. Paid a design fee and a 50% deposit. When it came time for the walkthrough, the technician failed to show up during our scheduled window. No call, no text, nothing. When I reached out myself, I was told he had known most of the day he wouldn't make it but no one bothered to let me know. I stayed home from work for the appointment. When I raised the issue and asked for a discount to continue, they chose to terminate the project entirely rather than take any accountability. Weeks of my time wasted. If you value your time and expect basic communication from people you're paying, look elsewhere.

We have had a Technics SL-1200MK2 professional turntable in the family for years. Wanting to give…read moremy family the Christmas gift of being able to enjoy records in our collection, I brought the turntable to Shelley's to have it restored to playing condition. Stan Zeiden, their analog specialist, not only restored it but also restored my appreciation for the unparalleled experience of sitting and listening to a record. He was honest and caring, and he wanted the best for me and my family. Talking to him on the phone felt great - like an old-fashioned telephone conversation seldom experienced these days. He asked what kind of stereo system we have, what kind of music we listen to, and fixed our turntable accordingly, making recommendations for a good cartridge and stylus, and later sold me a brush to care for our records. He also conveyed instructions on how to care for our system long-term. What's more? He managed to get it done before Christmas! My father, an audio engineer, sat with me and listened to Blood Sweat and Tears - it was the best listening experience I'd had in a LONG time. We're quite happy and I have since been back for a great set of cables and a fuse for one of our ADS L810 speakers. All of the staff at Shelley's have taken great care of me. I would highly recommend Shelley's and Stan for any of your high-quality audiophile listening needs.
