Menemsha Bike Ferry - Don't believe this sign!!

Great way to minimize hills and retracing bike path - was there when we biked up, good quick serviceread more

We took a detour to Menemsha on our June 14 2022 bike ride to Gay Head Light based on the sign…read moreposted at the corner of State Rd & Menemsha Rd. DON'T BELIEVE the sign that says the ferry operates from 8 am to 6 pm. There was no one and no ferry in sight when we arrived at the dock. upon checking their website and Facebook page, we found the ferry was closed and hadn't posted any updates since fall of 2021. Menemsha is a pretty spot to visit, but this detour added several miles to what was already a long bike ride to Gay Head. Review updated June 16 ============= I got this message from Menemsha Bike Ferry in response to a Facebook message I sent them... "My apologies... the winter closed sign has apparently gone missing... Glad to see the sign is noticed, but know that we will start Sat - Sun weekend service this weekend and likewise next to open seven days starting the 1st of July. Again, sorry for the extra miles to the dead end..albeit a nice place to be when chosen...!" They just added this update for 2022 on their Facebook page. "2022 OPERATIONS We will splash bike ferry for service Sat - Sun June 18 - 19....9a.m. To 5 p.m. that weekend service will run the following weekend of the 25th and 26th as well..... 7 day service will begin Friday July 1st..." At least part of the blame for our bad experience belongs to Google Maps which recommended the route to Gay Head via the Menemsha Ferry which was not in service. I suggest checking their Facebook page before you try it. https://www.facebook.com/MenemshaBikeFerry

MetroWest Regional Transit Authority - The route of the #8 bus

    MetroWest Regional Transit Authority

Have been riding this for over a decade now and things get progressively worse by the week…read more Dispatch is useless and they always give you the wrong information. Often bus will skip scheduled run which makes connections, transfers or appointments impossible. The bulk of the buses only hold 16 or 18 people (including the driver) but are generally empty which should tell you something about the unreliability of their service. The MWRTA seems more interested in getting grants than in servicing the public. This doesn't even address their ridiculously short operating hours, especially on the weekends. They seem to have infant children's hours with no accessibility after 4pm. What transit system based in a "city" (ha!) has such worthless hours of operation?

Do not recommend this service. Buses don't follow the schedule at all, so if you need a…read moreconnection, it will not work. Also, the buses they use rattle like crazy, so rides are very uncomfortable. Also, many of drivers are strange. On Route 3, the driver just left the bus at Dick's Plaza and said he will be right back..he wasn't back for 20 min. Route 4S driver kept talking to herself and all the passengers ad nauseum, it was just strange. Finally, some of the passengers are just very strange to say at least. It's true these rides are free because they are funded by the Commonwealth, but if you have to any other means of transportation, please do not take MWRTA.
