We've had a lot of REALLY good meals here. The restaurant is located near the Gay Head Lighthouse…read moreand from the outside patio you can watch the sun setting while deer and rabbits frolic in the meadow. The setting is charming and a little bohemian (the prices, however, are not - our prix fixe dinner in summer of 2026 was $139 per person). Think "the rich elite dress down for a boho meal outside". Up until this visit the service, the atmosphere and the food have been spectacular. Something must have happened this time around, however. To start, they lost our reservation even though I made it over the phone a month ahead of time (I know I did this because I entered it in my calendar.) To their credit they were able to seat us at a lovely table at the edge of the patio. They've replaced their tied-down sail-type patio coverings with a permanent roof but one can still get the evening breeze. Our meal was mostly very very good except for one glaring exception which unfortunately was the main course. We both ordered the fluke - so sorry we did. It was heavily and crustily breaded and badly overcooked - in addition to being virtually tasteless. (I've had frozen fish sticks that tasted better.) Neither of us could eat more than half of it, and I noticed, as the wait staff removed plates from other tables, that there was a lot of half-eaten fish going back to the kitchen. That being said, for the most part the menu is imaginative and the food is well-prepared - the amuse bouches were delicious and dessert was above acceptable. The service is very good and the table settings charming. Having had more than a few fantastic meals here I'm willing to chalk this up to a bad night in the kitchen. Although we will be taking a break from Outermost Inn don't let my review stop you from trying it out - the food is usually very good and the overall experience is really special. If you sit on the patio do take a sweater or a wrap - it gets very chilly there as the sun goes down.

And the decor is lovely: fresh flowers, glass ware, plates. The food was hit and miss. First, I really loved my lavender lemonade. It was one of the best mocktails I've ever had. And I like the prefix menu concept. The meal started with a cold soup, which was delicious. Then there was a mushroom gnocchi; the sauce/flavor was delicious though the gnocchi were a little chewy. The bread they bought to the table was terrible. There were two different kinds and both were tough and flavorless. For my first course, I had a salad, which was fine though unremarkable. My main course was the fluke. It was described as golden crusted fluke, and I was disappointed when it arrived fried. It was served on top of some vegetables, including some very vinegar potatoes. There was a lingonberry sauce on top, which was excellent, but everything else was not very good. I was pretty disappointed. My fish was dry and a tad fishy tasting. I also tasted the pork belly, which was good and the wagyu which I thought was just OK. I got to taste all of the desserts. There were some interesting flavors such as the strawberry rhubarb, but some really odd textures like the cake in that dessert. The chocolate dessert was OK. Would I go back? Sure. It's so stunningly beautiful. I would ask more questions as I ordered about exactly how the food was going to be prepared, and I would lower my expectations for the food.

We had planned to use public transportation to explore Martha's Vineyard and had even confirmed beforehand that our stroller wouldn't be an issue. Unfortunately, that turned out not to be true. Trying to salvage the day, we called Bluefish Taxi for help. We had 4 adults, a toddler, and one stroller, and were quoted $80 to travel from Oaks Bluff to Edgartown and then Vineyard Haven, with the assurance that the driver would wait for us in Edgartown while we explored. While $80 seemed high, we accepted, given the circumstances. The driver arrived promptly and drove us to Edgartown Lighthouse, but seemed irritated when we wanted to take a few minutes to explore. Feeling uncomfortable, we cut our stop short and headed straight to Vineyard Haven. When we arrived, we were told the fare was $90 instead of the quoted $80. When we called the next day (October 20th) to ask about the difference, we were told the dispatcher quoted us incorrectly and that the driver "did us a favor" by not charging for our toddler. They refused to refund the $10 difference. Let me be clear, $10 isn't the issue. It's the principle. When I'm quoted a price, I expect to pay that price. Especially when the service was already an unplanned expense caused by another transportation issue. The dismissive attitude and refusal to honor their own quote left a bad impression. Bottom line: The driver was punctual, but the experience felt unwelcoming, overpriced, and unprofessional. I can't recommend Bluefish Taxi based on this experience.

The owner and the breakfast was really first class, and very delicious! The inside and outside. Seating areas are spectacular and really nice way to spend lazy afternoons. It's on the main drag so people will walk by. A fun place to be. Across the street is the sweet life restaurant, nice place to eat. We stayed in one of the carriage house rooms on the bottom floor, there are two bedrooms, which are very similar. One has a queen bed and the other has two double beds. Our friends stayed next-door. The room was good, I probably was expecting it to be a little bit more polished. The appointments were really nice, everything worked fine. But a few minor things like the bathroom door wouldn't shut properly, one of the sinks wasn't working just right. Not sure exactly how to put a finger on it, but felt a little underwhelmed when entering the room. However, in saying that, I slept like a baby every night in the perfect bed and mattress. The room did the job in terms of comfort, and a nice shower, and Right next to the main house, I would recommend staying here. Definitely recommend it if you're looking to stay in Oak Bluffs, and want to be right in the middle of the action!
