This is a pretty spectacular building that looks old New York style. It's one of the most beautiful buildings, not just in Houston and not just in Texas, but in the whole country. It's gorgeous and beautiful and splendid, and has some of the greatest architectural design, and it's hard not to love it. It's postmodern and gorgeous. It's had lots of names - the RepublicBank Center, the NCNB Center, the NationsBank Center, the Bank of America Center, and looks like an Amsterdam Canal House supposedly. It's the 55th tallest building in the US, and the 7th in TX. Definitely one of my favourite buildings that I have seen around, and definitely one of the most amazing aspects of the Houston Downtown Skyline.

While it is not free, there are several parking lots to choose from and I have never had trouble finding a spot, even during events. I have attended multiple events here over the years, including a Yelp Elite end of year event, and the experience has always been consistently solid. My employer also maintains a space in the building, which speaks to the caliber of organizations and talent The Ion attracts. There are a couple of restaurants inside the building that I have not tried yet, along with outdoor seating that is great for lunch. Food trucks will often be set up outside during the lunch hour, which adds to the overall atmosphere. Security is attentive without being overbearing, and there is always someone present at the front desk. The building is consistently clean, polished, and well maintained. My favorite feature is the main floor stairs and stage area, which feels casual but still perfectly aligned with the innovative and professional nature of the space. It really gives old money vibes without the need for an old money budget. Becky and the Parador staff are wonderful to work with. They are supremely attentive, and worked with us to find a budget and date that worked for us. It's a beautiful historic building located in the Heights, and it's a quirky space, with the old truck bays downstairs and a more conventional event space upstairs. The Good: Lovely historic building. Decent parking. Central location. The Bad: Difficult Management. Management is available only on Saturdays from 9-10am. No other times - if you need to measure, plan, or tour the venue, that's when you've got to be there. No rehearsal times are possible, unless you rent the venue again. Management seemed put off after our second visit - we wouldn't have had to come back if their hours were not so brief! Questionable Business Practices. We meticulously cleaned the venue after our event, yet $60 was withheld from our deposit, without explanation. After calling them, the excuse we were given was that there was "water on the floor, probably from someone dragging a garbage can." That costs $60 to fix? All in all, it's a pretty place and inexpensive, but the fact that the lady running the operation is so difficult to work with makes it impossible to recommend the venue.
