Last year, my fiancee and I toured about 10 different venues, and we both agreed that Citadel is the most beautiful and is the venue we want to have our wedding in September 2020. The venue has gorgeous marble floors, chandelier, natural light, grand entrance floor, etc. Many couples including us are curious about wedding preparation under the current COVID-19 situation in Houston. Like others, we looked for options such as reschedule, etc. We finally came to the conclusion to have a very small wedding instead of a big one that we originally planned to ensure everyone's safety also support the local businesses; Citadel and all vendors we are working with. My fiancee and I exchanged multiple emails/phone calls with Rebecca (Sales and Event Manager) to adjust event details. I was very impressed by how she is handling the current situation. Most importantly, she kept reminding us she's there for helping us and bringing new ideas. We are still in the progress of the adjustment, and hopefully, we can figure out a way to have a safe and happy wedding. I hope everybody stays healthy and we can come out happy and stronger . I will update the reviews as we are making progress!

You guys made everything perfect! From beginning to end of the planning of our wedding event, you made us feel comfortable and confident. Working with you not only brought us the experience we were looking for; but eased the stress level which comes with planning a wedding. The Citadel is breathtaking the moment you walk, and I would highly recommend Rebecca, the staff and the Citadel to anyone that is planning a wedding. Thank you for making a lifetime of memories. The space is HUGE. And it's not too far from the city, especially if you're in the medical center, it took us less than 10 minutes to get here. Opposed to the other glamorous wedding venues in town such as the Two Chateaus which can be upwards of an hr to get to depending on which side of town you stay in. So I have to applaud the owners of the Citadel for creating a wedding space close to town. The space is designed for upwards of 700 people. They are still finishing up some of the details but the main ballroom is basically done. There are not many places in town that can hold that many people and not be a hotel ballroom. It is very clean and sleek looking.

We didn't have to lift a finger--we just got to relax, be present, and actually enjoy every minute of our daughter's wedding. With only a short window before the big day, we realized it would be so much easier on our guests if we provided transportation from the Grand Galvez to the church and back to the hotel for the reception. Kelly handled every detail with a private company and it was seamless. The next day she even took care of returning everything--the cake plate, the tux, all of it. We had a couple of guests with dietary restrictions, and she and her assistant Amanda made sure that was completely covered. If my husband or I even thought about wanting a drink while we were walking around greeting people, one of them somehow appeared with it in hand. Kelly doesn't just understand her job--she has an innate understanding of what it means to be the parents of the bride and how to make the whole experience easier on you. Both she and Amanda are friendly, steady when you're stressed, funny, and genuinely personable. They're simply the best event planners you could hope for. When my daughter's veil got left at the hotel right as the ceremony was about to start, they used their connections and somehow it magically showed up at the church with time to spare. Anything we needed to keep--family heirlooms and the rest--they carefully got back into our car or our room afterward. I can't recommend Kelly and Eventology highly enough. We had so much fun that we're seriously thinking about throwing a big party for our friends every five years just so we can do it all over again!

My fiancé and I got engaged in Jan 2019 and after venue shopping and planning, we were referred to Yvette in May 2019. At the time, we decided to not do a pop up since we ended up deciding to do a wedding on a cruise in 2020. Well obviously that fell apart thanks to the pandemic! Yvette was there to save the day! We were hoping things would get better in 2020 but COVID cases kept rising so we said screw it, let's do the pop up wedding! And we are SO happy that we did! We didn't want to do a huge party and spend thousands on a wedding but we got the upscale wedding look for so much less. Yvette and her team were offering these COVID packages (see their Instagram to see if still on going) and we had an officiant, seating for 25, cake, photographer venue and decorations all for under $2000. My family was worried that since we were spending significantly less than the average wedding cost that it wouldn't be as nice. In fact, we were criticized prior to the wedding, but then the day of the wedding arrived and they were in awe. It was so romantic and beautiful. Yvette and her team added flowers, candles and just made the night so magical. The cake was delicious and over all the experience was dreamy and magical. Pop Up Weddings Houston also go beyond the pop up wedding bookings. Yvette does weddings of all sizes! They actually do wedding give aways on their instagram so check it out if you're recently engaged! They also work with vendors/partners who provide live streaming services, photo booths and more! Anyways, major thanks to Pop Up Wedding Houston! I am totally referring my engaged friends to them! Note: Once I receive my wedding photos I'll update my review to show you all how gorgeous the venue was!

He promised a team of 8-10 and showed up with 4 people. (The day of he stated His staff needed to change clothes in our hotel suite, which was very unprofessional, as this was suppose to be our special day and private time with our wedding party). We began texting and calling Darrell at 8am the day of our event, with no response from him. It wasn't until 2pm when another vendor called and texted us in a group with Darrell saying they have not heard from him and need to get in touch ASAP! Many of the vendors complained to us about how unprofessional and unorganized Darrell was. Our wedding day was a disaster. Darrell over promised and failed to deliver. We had terrible communication issue throughout the planning process to the point that we had to demand a discount a month prior to the wedding day, because WE had basically planned everything OURSELVES . Still we were hoping he would execute the day of, since we have seen beautiful picture of past events. Many of his staff has quit, which now i understand why. I have so much more to add... but the most important thing is to STAY AWAY FROM THIS FRAUD "WEDDING PLANNER" that planned and executed absolutely NOTHING correctly.

Our…read moreinitial meeting with Darrell was pleasant but I should have noticed a slight pink flag when he conducted the meeting from his condo after telling us he had an office space but changed it last minute. (lie number one of 20458594) We however appreciated the conversation and decided to book full wedding planning services with Events with Darrell since we were living in Dallas at the time. First big issue - Darrell tells us that he is going to set up a week/weekend of vendors for us including catering, décor, etc and that we should plan to come to Houston to meet with them. I at the time was an Assistant Principal of an Elementary School and therefore taking time off doesn't always come easy but we made it work. I reached out to Darrell to confirm that we would be traveling in on Friday to experience meetings Friday afternoon and Saturday. He promised an itinerary that would be sent before we left. We received NOTHING. Friday morning comes and we send a confirmation text naming we would be heading to Houston and arriving around noon and asked for confirmation on where to meet. No response. We were going to cancel the trip but also knew we needed to plan the wedding so we chalked up his lack of response to him being busy so we hit the road. Get halfway to Houston, reach out about the meeting....NOTHING. Arrive in Houston...STILL NOTHING. At this point I'm venting to one of my bridesmaids who's a professional photographer in Seattle about the issue not knowing she's apart of a group that includes knowing Darrell. After this vent; Darrell reached out via phone to lie about what happened and why he was unresponsive. Something to the tune of "I was traveling and didn't have my phone." Anyway he did manage to get us in with the caterer (who was simply amazing) and the décor company (who was equally amazing) Let's fast forward because we should have fired him after that experience but because we'd began to pay him I stuck with him....WRONG Our wedding was rescheduled to 12/11/21 and prior to rescheduling the interview I asked Darrell if he was going to be ok with the change. He agreed it would work but that was yet another lie (I'll get to that later) Ok so let me also not I did not include lots of the lies and ignoring Darrell did. Because of this I basically planned my own wedding. I booked the DJ, changed catering information, booked the marquee letters, the violinist, the photobooth, bartender, created the run of show, EVERYTHING...and I won't even bother yall with the disorganization he had at the wedding rehearsal. NOPE. It's wedding day and Darrell's assistant at the time Keisha said she would be at my hotel by 7:00am. Didn't happen. I get a call from the vendor we booked to do our cloud smoke and sparkler stuff around 11:00am saying Darrell is not at the venue (he told me he was going to be there all day) and she doesn't know where to put the stuff. I get another text from our marquee vendor saying she has called Darrell over 20 times and needs to know where to put the letters because she too is at the venue and Darrell isn't there. I reach out to Keisha around this time and you can tell when she answers the phone that her breath stinks because she's just waking up. She says she will handle it and I let it go. Keisha shows up a few hours later, we've taken pics and we are ready to transition. Thinking Keisha is going to the wedding venue with us I give her my veil because it's super grand and I didn't want to walk with it. We transition to the ceremony venue (a little late but that's ok) and they won't let me get off the bus. Come to find out Darrell is there, Keisha is NOT and she has my muthaf***in veil. Irritated I tell Darrell that I will just walk without it and let's begin. Ceremony occurs yay yay yay and now it's time for the reception which is at another venue. We get to the ceremony venue and its breathtaking. But, no Darrell, no Keisha, no Pablo, and none of his other rented "assistants" Keisha shows up about 45 min later pretending like she was at the venue (lies) we FINALLY begin. We walk in as a bridal party, everything is finally flowing and the sparklers go off but they are under some beautiful pompas leaves. Well those beautiful leaves spark a fire and BAM we had to shut the wedding down for an hour to ensure that everything was safe and taken care of. This caused me to miss the father/daughter dance, mother/son dance, bouquet toss, garter toss, and all the American traditions we planned. What saved the wedding you ask? Not Keisha, or Darrell although Keisha did try to reconcile things so I appreciate that and Darrell was in a corner crying like a bit**. It was actually the Nigerian traditional ceremony we included in the wedding. Theirs so much more I could say but I wouldn't ever think of hiring Darrell. He's a FRAUD! Don't play roulette with your special day by hiring him.

Being an out of town bride, a wedding planner was an absolute must. I spent hours on the phone…read moretrying to find a wedding planner--balancing both services and budget. While Jennifer seemed like a good option at the time, I quickly began to regret my decision. Right away I noticed that she was always late to appointments, did not meet deadlines, and worst of all did not listen to what I wanted. I hired her for both design and coordination, and her first take on the design presentation was not only significantly shorter than the example she had sent me, but she presented in her words "a bohemian style" when I had specifically asked for "southern elegance". She did redo the presentation, but this was the first of some major communication issues that I continued to see throughout the process. The issues with planning were frustrating, but honestly would not be that big of a deal if the wedding day service would have been executed more professionally. One of my biggest hang-ups with Jennifer is her lack of humility and being able to take responsibility for her mistakes--especially when they impact such a big day in people's lives. Here are some of the major things that happened day of (leaving out other things for brevity): -Florals and timeline: I specifically chose a florist that works in the same office as Jennifer, because I thought that communication between them would be good and lead to a great design--but boy was I wrong. Day of, Jennifer had not communicated the schedule to the florist to ensure that certain installments were ready for us to take pictures with--which resulted in putting us behind schedule for photos. Furthermore, she worked with the florist on certain installments such as the seating chart and did not have the foresight to inquire about dimensions so the print outs she had ended up being way too large for the fl-oral rings they were put in. -Photos: Communication here was an issue before the wedding. The photographer had asked for someone to help coordinate family members/friends during portraits and while Jennifer did respond in an email saying this: "we have never been asked to assist a photographer before, before the ceremony we are all hands on deck getting set up, but if you needed my assistant during the cocktail hour I can certainly add that to my notes if you don't have an assistant/second shooter. " leaving it open for interpretation and never following up with the photographer. While I do very much think that it was the photographer's fault for not having help/resources in place, better communication by Jennifer could have potentially prevented the situation. What most frustrated me about this though, is that during portraits when help was needed--not only was her assistant standing by us while the situation unfolded, not doing anything to help (aka obviously not all hands on deck)--when Jennifer did finally come help she was rude to me and my husband in front of our friends and family, blamed the photographer, and instead of trying to help, told the photographer it was their problem and left. Even if it was their fault, I would hope that a wedding planner could work with all types of people and help solve a crisis on a wedding day rather than just walking away. -Clean-up: One of Jennifer's biggest selling points for us was that she would take care of all of the items after the wedding and deliver them at our convenience later. Unfortunately this did not happen, many items were missing, and my mom had to stay until 2am trying to clean up because Jennifer did not do her job. Again, these are only a few of the many problems we experienced with Jennifer others involving poor communication with the cake designer, photobooth vendor, etc. What it all boils down to is that she has some issues communicating with other vendors/clients, will not take fault or apologize for her mistakes. So if you are considering booking her, double/triple check everything and make sure all of the vendors are on the same page-- I thought that I did, but unfortunately the coordination at the wedding caused a lot of problems for a wedding day that you will never get back.
