I was really disappointed with my experience at this store today. First, I want to say I genuinely appreciate that you hosted a Fear Free dog community event. I think events like that are important, helpful, and a great way to support dog owners. That said, when I walked in with my dog wearing a prong collar, the way I was treated felt unkind and unwelcoming. Members of the training group were rude, whispered mean comments, pointed, and made me feel judged instead of supported. On top of that, while I was looking for an item, not a single staff member offered to help me. I left feeling uncomfortable and unwelcome, and it honestly made me not want to shop here again. I understand and respect the goal of Fear Free education, but customer service, professionalism, and kindness should matter just as much--especially during an event meant to support the community. I'm sharing this because I hope future customers are treated with more respect and offered help rather than being made to feel judged. read more

Sometimes you need an antidote to the big box corporate warehouses. This is the place. They have curated a collection of excellent toys, treats, and equipment for your pet - in my case a dog. They have knowledgeable and friendly staff who will tell you why they have these items and which choice is best for your needs. Doriam was sweet to my dog, and helped us start collecting a toy line that actually stands up to his rough play. It's the only toy I haven't had to re-stitch on a weekly basis. They have dog treats that are great health choices that I hadn't heard about on any of the big pet websites. And of course, you can bring your pet and stroll the Cedros design district. I will be back to get my little buddy a doggie cake for his birthday this month. He loved the little pumpkin-based cupcake we picked up here, and the chewing sticks. read more

Rude blond cashier, who look like she hated working there, but balanced by a worker who was walking around helping everyone. This employee gave some good suggestions on what toys is good for the dog breed. Prices in this store is higher, which you can buy for cheaper in other stores that contains the same products. The main focus is the unique toys and treats for your dog, such as doggy cupcakes which would be great for their birthday. The cashier was passive aggressive towards my friends who purchased a couple of dog treats and toys. One of my friends noticed her complaining to a customer about our general excitement while we were shopping. Granted we may have been excited when we saw the cute dog pun toys, but if any of the staff was uncomfortable, a simple request to keep the noise down would have suffice. This is my observation, not actually told by us. It seems that this negative demeanor trickled down to her coworker, who was helping us initially but then began following us around in the store which felt like she was watching us while we shop. We were not making any mess. My other friend was just looking at the clothes for her dog after buying some doggy treats. I used to love shopping here. Even though the prices are higher, the items are great quality and the area is nice to shop in afterwards. However, the employees don't treat all dogs equally. When my dog was a puppy he picked up a toy off the shelf to look at, and I was getting mean looks from the employee behind the counter. I put it back and nothing was wrong with it, but she glared at me and watched me the rest of the time. Since then, it has been nice to visit, until recently. I took my foster puppy, who is still being socialized and going through a fear period and currently being trained, and when she barked they reacted horribly. They stood on the other side of the store, terrified of her. I asked one of them if they could give her a treat to show her that it's ok (to help her learn to trust strangers), but the younger woman said that for her own safety she would not. The older woman was nicer and more understanding, but overall they were hiding from the puppy and being dismissive of me when I was trying to explain that she is just training still, but I understand. Then, I heard them behind the counter making comments like "good thing no other customers are in here". It felt very rude and I will not be coming back. read more

Ok mg check expiration dates. The lady was trying to sell me expired ear cleaner after I told her it had expired a few months ago. She said it would be fine!!! no actually after checking with my vet they said using expired medication like that can cause ear infections and actually can grow bacteria in the bottle. I also picked up plaque off that expired in 2021 that's three years ago and that's for plaque off in the mouth. My vet said do not use that take that back and never shop there again.!!!' Be CAREFUL, check their food dates as well because this can really make your dog sick and clearly they don't care. She was still trying to sell it to me. I told her that she shouldn't not be selling that and it should probably be illegal to even have on your shelf. I could not believe she was pushing it on me still.... read more

I took a day trip to Oceanside and San Diego then decided to stop by this pet store on the way there when I think it would have some pretty cute outfits for my puppy Fuchsia. It's a small store filled with lots of dog toys even the unique plush toys shaped in purses, perfume bottles, high heels and many other fun toys. There are some cute dog clothes, food, strollers, a few beds and accessories. I found a cute pink and yellow polka dot dress on sale so I brought that when I like dressing up my fur baby when she is a fluffy Maltese. Fuchsia thinks we're going out when I dress her up and never tries to destroy the clothes instead she wears them like a princess. The dress material is nice and easy to wash just toss it in one of those laundry bags for delicate clothes and put it in the washer or hand wash it then let it air dry by hanging it or laying it out. read more

Muttropolis is such a cute little dog boutique, I've gone to the location in La Jolla but this store has a nice large yard for our fur babies to play in! I came here last Saturday with my Pomeranian Meet Up group and although it was a smaller turn around, we all received such amazing service! The associates inside the store were so friendly and wanted to give our babies so much love! They have so many cute outfits at such great prices considering the make of these pieces! Plus they have a huge little area for treats, our Pomeranians were going crazy! They closed down the front yard for all of our dogs to play in and they even used gates to puppy proof the exits! All the associates were so attentive to our dogs needs, bringing out water bowls and a little tray of snacks for our Pomeranians to munch on! They even gave us little samples to take home! We did buy medication specifically for dog joints and they were a lot more affordable here! If you need to get a little birthday cake for your fur baby you can get a cute cake for $12, definitely worth it! Bring your fur babies here you will love it and so will they! read more

I have been a patron of the La Jolla Muttropolis for years and recently found Cedros so I decided to check out the Solana Beach Muttropolis. I love this store. I have been here 4 times in the past month and I live in the East County. The staff is uber friendly, knowledgeable and they have a multitude of things to choose from. Since we own little dogs and giant dogs, we find its always challenging to find a one stop shop for their needs, but Muttropolis always has a variety of choices for all our beloved pets. We have gone to two breed specific parties this month and the staff is amazing with all that commotion. They close off the little yard in front and the dogs have a PARTY. It doesn't matter if they are in the flowers, it doesn't matter if they are running through the store, they are treated like VIP guests. It is so relaxing to be in an establishment where your dog can do no wrong. The staff just laughs and snaps photos, they actually understand that they are animals and not furry humans. Yes this is a boutique for pets, so you will find high end items, but that's not all they have. You can buy things from under $10 all the way up into the $100's. From collars and leashes to food bowls. For those of us that like to play dress up with our dogs, they have clothing too. If you have a nervous dog, they have the thunder shirts available here (it is a miracle product). Yes, their dog food is not at Walmart prices, but then you would be feeding your dog some of the best food available on the market, not corn byproducts. (ok ok no preaching here). I'll give you a BIG hint, there are clearance bins throughout the store with discontinued or last season items. These bins are substantially reduced and you can find some real bargains, but the real hint is this. I really like buying stupid novelty chew toys for my dog and they've got some really fun ones here. Staff are super nice and helpful. Of course as other reviews mentioned, it's a little pricey but that's to be expected considering the neighborhood. It's not really a place I go to to buy dog food and other pet essentials but if I'm looking for a gift or a chew toy shaped like a tequila bottle I'll splurge and treat my puppy to something from here. I have supported this store for many years, even through prices are high I enjoyed it. I went in the other day, almost 41 weeks pregnant while waiting for my doctors visit to pick up a few things. For anyone who has been pregnant you know how urgent a bathroom break can be and how uncomfortable. I was in the middle of shopping when I had an urgent urine call and I asked to use the restroom, explaining I was over 40 weeks pregnant and this was an urgent request. She told me no. I was literally doing my best not to cry and she was unwavering. I'm sharing this as I think it's important to support folks who aren't just after making money, but good human beings. I went to Muttropolis and there was a "tragic to magic" adoption event where the person supervising the event was allowing children to grab and pick up puppies in ways that clearly hurt them because they were yelping. I told the volunteer, Dana, that the water bowl was empty and she dismissed it. My friend and I kept asking her to refill the water bowl throughout the duration of our time at Muttropolis and even offered to refill it ourselves. There were about 8 puppies within the cage and they were pawing at the single empty water bowl. I was shopping in the store and glancing out to see if the water bowl had been refilled and the Muttropolis employee (I think the owner) regarded me with suspicion and hostility. When she asked what I was looking at, I explained and she said "well maybe they already had a lot of water." This establishment obviously doesn't care for the safety and well-being of dogs so I recommend not supporting the business. read more

I always loved walking in here when I'm in the Solana Beach area. They have a variety of good treat options and of course, some nice pet boutique items such as Rae Dunn. I came here last Sunday to get one of my dog a cake. The cakes come frozen and you defrost it and it's a perfect size and very affordable. My two german shepherds loved it! I usually go to a pet store in Oceanside to get their cakes and that store personalizes the cake with your puppy's name which I thought was cute but Muttropolis doesn't. First order of business, my dogs LOVE this store. Seriously. After numerous trips here they now know the store and the minute we pull the car up in front of Muttropolis the...well........the "yelping" starts. Holy moley, can't get out of the car fast enough for them. The service here is the best, bar none, of any dog boutique/store we've visited (and I'm a slave to my pups, so we've visited a bunch). The girls that work there are super nice and always have some healthy treats for the doggies. There's always a large bowl of fresh water outside the store and a spacious "fake grass" area beside the store for your dog's nature calls. The girls on occasion have even helped us find a few dog-friendly restaurants & parks that we hadn't discovered. It's a "must stop" just for them alone, thanks girls! Other than the friendly service, what makes this store special is the unique selection of products. As a few others have already stated the store is more heavily weighted with bling and the like, but what we love is the specialty toys you won't find elsewhere. And yes, big dogs are especially included with these toys. They have some "extra-tough chew-resistant" toys that are the best I've seen anywhere. (a little pricey, but commiserate with the quality). One of my dogs can dismantle a toy in record speed, but I have Muttropolis toys that've lasted months. Our friend has three 80lbs++ dogs and she reports the same with the toys we gifted her dogs. Ask the staff for them. If you have a chomping dog, it's well worth the extra dough. Lastly, they have a unique offering of high quality organic & natural pet food & treats. They even have a Muttropolis brand of doggie cookies (my dogs love 'em!). The only thing that keeps this store from earning a 5 star rating is the pricing. Don't go in there expecting department store prices, but do expect to be surprised at the service and the unique items. Bonus info: Just down the street from this location is Del Mar's Dog Beach. We like to run the dogs crazy at the beach and then pop over to Muttropolis for some treats, it's only minutes away. WOOF! read more
