We are always on the constant search for a good sushi alternative in Northridge since Katsuya is almost always busy. We decided to try this place out. This is for 2 people on a Saturday night! Quite surprisingly, it wasn't busy! Please note this is strictly a review of their SUSHI ONLY. Food: The presentation was BEAUTIFUL. I like that there was wasabi inside the sushi. Not all sushi restaurants do that. However, the turn out wasn't good. We ordered spanish mackerel, albacore, tuna, and salmon - ALL of them had TOO MUCH WASABI, unfortunately. The thing about putting wasabi in sushi is you have to carefully put in the right amount otherwise it becomes to POWERFUL that it will weaken the taste of fish. That happened to all of our sushi. Price: PRICEY. The bill came to about $80+ which is about normal if you are in Encino/Ventura area but the food was not as good as its competitors so imma say its not worth the penny. Parking: AMPLE. It is located in a small plaza in Chatsworth. You can EASILY MISS it if you are not familiar in this area. But its FREE. Service: This one is a little ODD. We were greeted at the door and got seated at the bar. The chefs were VERY FRIENDLY. We even had the chance to talk to them since it wasn't busy when we came. However, during the course of the meal, I noticed that we didn't have enough napkins in our table and our water cups were NOT ALWAYS filled. It was pretty odd for a slow Saturday. We only saw the servers probably TWICE - when they asked for our drinks and when they gave our check. Atmosphere: This is only a personal preference but I'm NEVER A FAN of white table mats because it gives me an impression that they should be replaced every meal like the fancier restaurants. This is not the case for this restaurant. It probably can use a little bit MORE LIGHTING and DECOR in the dining area. It just looks a little PLAIN. Overall, I'm glad there is a decent sushi restaurant in this corner of the Valley but I probably WON'T GO BACK again. Sushi competition in Valley is so HIGH that you have to atleast match the quality with the price of the food. Mutsumi is leaning more towards to the PRICEY-JUST-OKAY sushi kind. read more

What a wonderful sushi setup in Chatsworth. We celebrated a birthday here tonight, and this was one of the few places that could host a larger party (8). The staff was attentive and quick at getting our order and at serving the food from the sushi bar & kitchen. We sampled many dishes, with starters like soft shell crab (lightly battered and fried), shishito peppers, and tempura shrimp along with some salads (very good ginger/sesame dressing). The fish was fresh, with the yellowtail and hotate/scallops being real standouts. The rolls were nicely wrapped and hit the spot for our guests that weren't in the mood for raw fish. The menu has many options with a variety of sashimi, nigiri, and many different rolls to pick from. Everything I ate was delicious, but my personal favorite was the Unagi nigiri.. I got 2 orders of it because of how delicious it was!! Not only is the food so yummy, it's also presented beautifully. I came in with a big group and the service was outstanding. I wish I had been able to take pics of everything but I didn't wanna be a buttface and annoy everyone I came with. This is my second time here, but only the first time I ate here. The previous time I came here it was so busy that we decided to go elsewhere. My "prospective" client chose the place, so I was not going to argue. We started off with the he'e (tako) carpaccio. It was a very creative dish: Thinly sliced he'e drizzled with olive oil and garnished w/ red peppers. A great way to start the meal - 4 Stars. The next course was the keiki he'e (baby octopus). We received five or more pieces and it came with a nice garnish. The baby octopus was super tender and nicely marinated - 4 Stars. The first sushi we ordered was the toro. Unfortunately, the toro was not that fresh - 2 Stars. Next came the yellowtail belly. This dish: Was a nice sized portion, fresh and tasted pretty good - 3 Stars. The last sushi before the rolls was the amaebi (Sorry I forgot to take a pic!). They have a tank so you can see them prepare the amaebi before your eyes. The shrimp were obviously super fresh, nice sized and the fried heads were delish! - 4 Stars My prospective client likes rolls so I ordered the soft shell crab roll (pictured) and he ordered the shrimp tempura roll (not pictured). Both were OK - 3 Stars. I am not a big roll fan, so please take that into account. I apologize for not taking pictures of everything, But you will see why in a moment. The tab was $133 w/ tip, but w/o alcohol. Normally, I would say that this was an expensive lunch. However, my "New Client" told me at lunch he wanted to open up a big account with me, so this time I say that $133 wasn't $HIT! I got so excited I forgot to take the last few pics. In addition, during the latter part of our meal a couple of ladies walked in and my new client could not stop talking about them. We were in the Valley so you can imagine what he said about them...- LMAO! Although I closed the deal over lunch, I really can't give this joint more than 3 Stars. Yes, they have sushi chefs from Japan, but the food just did not "Wow" me. Fresh and friendly, nice large sushi bar with lighting that brings out the vibrant fish and excellent knife skills that some may refer to as small portions. However, the thin cut on high end ingredients is to be expected. Omakase is the best route to take. A GF introduced me to this place as she's been coming here since she was a kid. It appears to be a humble place located in a tiny (I mean tiny) plaza where 4 stores share the parking spaces. I tried both the table and bar seating. I'm not a fan of the table menu. So consider sitting at the bar if you're into omakase style of munching. The fish is so fresh. You'll see a lot of locals that come eat the bar. Order from the daily menu provided at the bar. What I liked about this place was mainly the bill. BF and I literally ate a truck-fill of sushi and their special hot dishes and the bill was so affordable. I'm so used to the "superficial" places in west LA that could literally cost you an arm or a leg. It's been months and I still can't believe how affordable it is. I have to say it's a hidden gem. Best sushi in the valley. Period. Always fresh, great service, amazing dishes. I recommend the black cod butter fish. This miso and saki marinated black cod is cooked with a small amount of char to it, served with a slice of lemon to drizzle over it and this fish just melts in your mouth like butter! Make sure you order this fish right away as it can take 20 minutes or so to cook. I also highly recommend the S4 roll. Seriously everything I've tried here I've really enjoyed. Just gonna share our facts: Service HORRIBLE. The host is a large and super lazy hispanic man. He got into 2 arguments with another employee that seemed to be the manager when We were there. He was completely incompetent. Neither did He care much about being there. Food- good food with potential if they kept everything fresh. Its a hit and miss with the fish. Joined friends for dinner at this great sushi spot! We started with beer and sake. They offer a wide variety of specials, but some have limited availability since they buy fresh fish daily. We sat at the bar and could see all the various fish served. Fresh delicious sushi nicely presented. One of the best sushi in LA. Last Saturday when we went to Omino, 5 sushi men were standing behind the sushi bar! For a little place like Omino that's a very good sign. This is my go-to spot for sushi. Omino is a small shop and unassuming, parking can be a problem and it can get crowded at lunch. Still five stars worthy. Staff is friendly and welcoming, they remember regulars. Iced green tea, so refreshing. A lot of sushi/sashimi options and specials that are not on the menu. I loved the oyster shooters (with quail eggs), uni (sea urchin) with quail eggs, giant clams, kanpachi, tai, toro and albacore salad.
