Haven't been here for 11mos according to Yelp, but still very good spot for high quality sushi! Just ate here & would still absolutely recommend this place to anyone who is a sushi enthusiast! Great service & the food is to die for! 5/5 stars!

Still one of my faves after all these years! Location 4: Chatsworth California, off of Devonshire and DeSoto, in a small strip mall. Limited parking on the lot but you can park on the street as well. Venue 4: Typical San Fernando valley mom and pop sushi establishment with a sushi bar and a handful of tables. No outdoor seating. Service 4: Always friendly, polite and attentive. Many of the servers have been there for the last several years. Drinks 4: Beer on tap and bottles, wine, sake, tea and soft drinks. Sapporo on tap is pretty solid and their sake list is pretty good. Food 4: Fresh, high quality fish prepared and served by experienced chefs that have been with the restaurant for many years. I've been going there for over 20 years and most of the chefs there date back to those days! Solid menu of sushi, sashimi, rolls and Japanese dishes. The Last Word: A great choice in the San Fernando Valley for authentic Japanese cuisine without the hype! One of my culinary comfort zones. Highly recommended.

It's been a while, since I last visited Mutsumi, so it was time to pay it another visit. Located in a corner of a very small strip mall, with congested parking, the sushi spot still commands a loyal following. It is a cozy place that has a small sit down sushi counter (3 sushi chefs, at that) and few tables in a compact dining space. Therefore, not surprising that this place gets full fast and you may have to wait for a spot, even though you have a reservation. I was dining solo and waited about 10 minutes for my corner table. Started with my favorite here, the Baked Oyster Dynamite. It lived up to my past memories. For the main, my selection was the Sashimi Dinner Combo. It comes with Tuna, Yellow Tail, Amber Jack Scallop, Salmon and Sweet Shrimp. The raw seafood was fresh and tender. This dish includes steam rice and miso soup, which was served hot and flavorful, with sea weed and small cubes of tofu. A salad was also included. Disappointingly, it only contained lettuce and arrived fully doused with thousand island dressing. I had to send it back and ask for another try, this time with the lettuce and dressing separated. Furthermore, why not a Japanese or ginger dressing to jive with the restaurant? Service was attentive, timely, caring and delivered in a professional manner.

I just started a new position at a nearby law office and was looking for places to eat. I came across their menu and was encouraged to see they had sukiyaki on the dinner menu. Unfortunately, I didn't envision myself eating dinner there, but I went for lunch and asked if they were actually serving it at dinner. Unfortunately, it appears they don't. I've been searching for a Japanese restaurant that serves it, with no avail. :-( Nevertheless, I did eat lunch there and it was magnificent. My wife is Nihonjin (Sansei, actually) and she's trained me well in what good sushi and Japanese food is. I had their lunch special and was surprised to have it start with a small dish of Sunomono accompanying the Miso soup. The main dish was a nice salad, a handful of bean sprouts, half a dozen green beans covered in sesame seeds, two pieces of Tempura shrimp, several pieces of Tempura vegetables, and four pieces of Spicy Tuna Roll. There was also a nice big bowl of gohan (rice). I finished everything, even though my 78 year old hands are now having trouble with hashi. For my money, the service was excellent, the food was delicious, and the portions were just right. Next time I will have some Toro and Hamachi to really experience the quality of their fish. There will definitely be a next (and probably a next and another next) time.

The quality of fish here is amazing. It's been a while since I dined here. I came to dinner with my sister and cousins and had a lovely time. Great service and great sushi. Everything we ordered was fresh and delicious. The sea trout was amazing, the scallops melt in your mouth. The yellowtail hand roll stole my heart and the crispy rice tuna was addictingly good. The ambiance is ok, dated restaurant with old furniture but who cares I'm here for the sushi. It's clean and organized. If you are looking for amazing sushi look no further. Stop by and check them out.

One of my most favorite sushi spots ever now. Sad that I moved away from the area, but when I visit, this place comes first! Such quality sushi here, can get pricy, but it's well worth it. The first time I came here I had the best experience, but the second time and third time (both within a week) I will say I was disappointed because they ran out of the sweet shrimp and had served me salmon sushi when I specifically ordered salmon belly , both times that I came. Other than the above, everything else was satisfying. My favorite roll here is the creamy salmon, it is delicious! The spicy scallop roll is good too. Their oysters are a must, they are too good( a little pricey) and their miso soup is my fave.

A real authentic sushi restaurant! All my favorites are fresh and perfectly prepared (Salmon Nigri, salmon roe, yellowtail, tuna), but the real gem of this place is in their rotating specials. Every time I come, they've got something new and delicious on the specials board. Today we had live scallop, which was just so light and fresh, and the sweet live shrimp was as delicious as it was gorgeous! The staff is incredibly attentive, and really helpful if you're ever overwhelmed or unsure what to order. Need to take someone out for good sushi in the valley? Take them here; they'll definitely be impressed!

Fresh sushi, accompanied by knowledgeable chefs, friendly hosts, and waitresses create a welcoming atmosphere. The people you meet at the bar add to the enjoyment. The prices are excellent, making it a popular spot with no disappointments within the restaurant. Notably, it's very clean, and in the evenings, they usually have sports on.

First of all, we were so happy to find out they're open until 2 a.m. every day, which is really convenient after late events. As soon as we walked in, we were warmly welcomed by Jazz, and right away we noticed how clean, beautiful, and well-designed the place is. But what really stood out was the food and the service. Every single dish we ordered -- from the appetizers to the main dishes and dessert -- was absolutely delicious. One of my favorites was the edamame. The sauce was so good that I actually took the leftover sauce home! What also makes them different from many other Japanese restaurants we've been to is the attention to detail in their customer service. Since there were six of us, they automatically gave everyone both chopsticks and forks without us even asking. I especially appreciated that because my mom usually has to request a fork at restaurants. The staff kept checking on us, refilling drinks proactively, and making sure we were comfortable throughout the meal. Even when we ordered mochi for dessert, they already cut it into shareable pieces and brought a fresh set of plastic forks for everyone. It's the little things that really make a difference -- excellent food, beautiful and clean atmosphere, amazing service, convenience, and thoughtful attention to customers. Definitely a 5-star experience for me and my family. Highly recommended!

It depends what you are in the mood for, and if you are not picky, you will find it, or something close to it, at this place. I come here to eat the basics, fresh fish, preferably sashimi style. Generally always start with their miso soup. Here it is priced at $2, is served piping hot (just the way I like it), has high quality and hits all the right notes to satisfy the nose and palate. For me, this sets the tone for lunch or dinner. This time it was the latter and I was in the mood for sashimi (of course), but also for a salad. So I selected a hybrid, the Sashimi Salad (3 pcs tuna, 2 pcs each of salmon, yellowtail, albacore, and 1 pce shrimp on top of mixed greens with soy mustard dressing). While the fish cuts were small, they were soft, had texture and hugged the tongue well while eating. I asked for the dressing on the side. For me this is important, because eateries tend to soak salads in dressing and mask the real taste and diversity of the dish. Ginger (not over pickled) and wasabi is complementary and I went through two portions of Ginger fast, and requested more. For the third time, they brought it in a small packed crucible. LOL. They made me real happy. Another wonderful visit to have sashimi at Tomodachi, in Porter Ranch.

After looking into it, I learned that these decorative flowers are typically not meant to be eaten and may even contain chemicals.
