I live around the corner and called in my order for pick up. Due to my busy schedule I decided to take my dog for a walk and pay for the to go order. I arrived at the register, mindful of staying behind the partition separating the sushi bar and register. I also waited outside until they let me know it was ready. The rude older lady saw that I came in with my puppy on leash, allowed me to pay as she hovered over the younger waitress who assisted my transaction, deliberately waiting for me to pay, and only then to told me no dogs allowed. We were in there just about a minute maximum, while I paid. I said to her, I really wish you would've told me before I paid so I could've taken my dog home instead immediately. I was absconded and lectured, feeling quite embarrassed and left in a particular way. I canceled my order and decided to never return. My dog is my child and anyone who can't tolerate him, while I pay a to go order, esp given the steep price for a simple hand roll, doesn't deserve my money or time. It's such a shame it seems like they did it deviously, making sure I paid big $$ before making it a point to only notify me after. Very unprofessional. This is one of my favorite sushi place in the valley!! The atmosphere is very nice and quiet! The fish quality here is very good! The fish is FRESH! I prefer sitting at the sushi bar, that way I can eat slowly and enjoy my food. The service is always top notch, the waiters are very attentive. The sushi chef are really nice, as well. Our favorite place to get sushi in the SFV. I love that it's authentic and offers much more than salmon, tuna, yellowtail, and albacore. I love their amberjack, black snapper, and Spanish mackerel!!! Another dish that I've enjoyed multiple times is the beef sukiyaki. It takes me back to my trip to Japan. Parking is small and very limited in the lot, but there is street parking nearby. On weekends there can be lines here. I recommend making reservations for large parties. read more

This place is over priced for the quality, as you walk in you get slapped with super fishy smell. I wasn't a fan of how fishy it smelled. The hand rolls I had were okay I've had better. The plates my family ordered were missing sushi that were supposed to be on the plate and they had to bring them after because they forgot to add them so that was a little annoying. I'd been here more than a handful of times. The place is small and always crowded so I usually ordered Togo. As far as the food, I will say the quality is great, 5 stars. I can't give 5 stars though because the food always takes forever when calling Togo. They always give at least 30min to pick up and then another at least 45 when you come to pick it up. I understand that they are always busy but waiting EVERY single time we put in an order is not reasonable. Anyways the Japanese Scallop sushi was spectacular, texture is buttery with a hint of Yuzu (citrusy sauce). Omakase experience was fair because the chef was so busy that the fish cut looked messy and ugly. I would come back during weekdays to avoid the crowd and to have a no rush dining experience. I came to Mutsumi with some friends to check this spot out for the first time and just wow! We had a bunch of nigiri, salmon, yellowtail, ikura, scallop and sweet shrimp. It is def not an "all you can eat" experience. The beer selection is basic, but the Sakhi selection is above average. Service: The server was very prompt and attentive to our needs. Disgusted. Absolutely regret ignoring the negative Yelp reviews for Mutsumi. New ownership, branding and management and it's awful. Host was beyond rude and unprofessional. Totally creepy and 100% misbehaved. We arrived at 8pm on a Friday night and the restaurant wasn't even half full, and we still had to wait for a table. Host was stroking male customers, big man on campus type of attitude, treating all other customers like pests. Our table was filthy and none of the staff was removing our dirty dishes throughout the meal. I had to flag down staff every time we needed something. Where's the customer service. Food: dull, poor to mediocre quality, do not order the toro- it's not fresh and it was definitely the worst order of the night it was melting in my chopsticks, the tuna and salmon sashimi were better than the "premium" cut. Save your money and go elsewhere. This place needs to be shut down. Ewww. Also my former negative review was removed probably by the owner but they left my positive review up. Finally decided to delete my positive review as it was for the previous restaurant OmIno. This was the first time visiting this sushi bar and I'm very impressed. As you will see in my photos, everything looks so mouthwatering and extremely delicious. The first thing I had to try was the fresh Live lobster and OMG it was freaking amazing and super sweet. The chef made sashimi from the tail and took the head to make a delicious fragrant miso soup. The texture was firm but oh so delicate and I was very happy. The next few courses were omakase and it included my favorite thing which is Uni, O-Toro and even Tai Red Snapper. They have so many options that you could choose from. The food, on the most part is still prepared the same as when this place was Omino's. Mutsumi owners must realize that this is a locals restaurant, which means people that frequent this place have been coming for a long time, back when Ominosan and Yoshika were feeding us. This means, we have a certain way about the experience and certainly particular about the food and service. Waiting 10-20 minutes in between sushi orders because your cook is preparing take out orders first, is NOT part of a positive experience. In fact, the wait in between food, the lack of listening to the orders, and arguing whether or not there is enough of something added to the food, (which should be something I dictate not anyone else), is enough not to come back.... People are not coming to this place because it's Mutsumi. They come because it WAS Omino's and still expect that same experience. The food here is always fresh and delicious. An hidden gem in the Valley. The waiter also have a very good knowledge regarding sake and fish. My favorites is Amber Jack, Black & Red Snapper.
