Just adding my 2 cents. 5 stars because it is what it is. And what it is is a dog house like I grew up with in Chicago. Not all just sport pepper red hots. Italian beef, sausage, giardiniera, fries, meatballs. Certainly, nothing fancy. Just straight up meats, meats, and just enough "veggies" to stave off the inevitable infarction. If you like their ilk, this is for you. Relatively, cheap good eats with a DU price-tag. If I only had one beef with the place it would be the bread. Ha! The issue with garbage bread is not unique to Mustard's. It's a dearth of good bread anywhere west of the Mighty Miss. Just particularly, noticeable here. read more

*Update* have gone here several more times as it's pretty much the only convenient burger spot nearby (attention competition - huge opportunity here) and after several dry ass burgers just straight up asked why they don't season their burger meat AT ALL. We have been here a few times and it's been pretty good every time. My husband loves a good hotdog, so we love to come back here. They have a pretty classic menu and are still doing well to serve the community during the pandemic in a safe way. Only one party at a time is allowed to order and with much distance. I would love to see more variety in hotdogs, with more options. Also, the last time we were there, part of the order was missing and we didn't realize it until we returned home. They were kind enough to offer us a hotdog the next time we dine there. We will definitely be back again. read more

I hate to admit it, but I've been cheating on my usual hot dog place with Mustard's. I'm completely hooked. They make a great dog. I usually just get the traditional Chicago dog and its fantastic. Honey has been getting the german brat and he's completely in love with it. They have a large menu with lots of different options, sandwiches, burgers, and perfectly crispy fries. The fries are always made fresh to order. Check em out, you can't go wrong! They have a parking lot on the side of the building that is usually always full, but hey you never know when you might get lucky and snag a spot. read more

The last time I had MLS was 20 years ago. It's even better than I remember it being and I was a picky child who LOVED this place 20 years ago. In the awful time of covid I have to say I'm BEYOND impressed with their customer service AND quality of food. I did an online order for pick up and was immediately called after placing my order just to confirm with me and go over safe practices upon my arrival. Insanely high quality of customer service from an online order. Very impressed with the above and beyond attitude of this business. Oh God, and the food. I got chili fries and they were so delicious and crispy and not at all soft and soggy. There was SO MUCH delicious obviously homemade chili smothering these beautiful little potato nuggets of goodness. I'm so impressed. I def. Ate in the parking lot and gorged myself Bc of how yummy. I got a veggie dog which I overloaded with extras under the assumption it was going to be small and boring. Well to my shock and surprise it was not at all. So my dog came with SO MUCH EXTRA FOOD ON IT I had to use a fork. My only complaint with this take out is that I didn't tip more on my order. I stopped into Mustard's Last Stand on a trip to Denver to continue my hot dog odyssey. I had seen this place listed as one of the top hot dogs in Denver so, obviously, I had to swing by. Great location near DU and I can certainly appreciate the dive-ish atmosphere. The gentleman who took my order was very friendly. I settled on a chili cheese dog and fries. So I'll admit that I'm partial to Southern Hot Dog chili (aka Chili sauce) that has no beans. However, I liked this chili. The issue was there was SOOOO much of it. I had to eat the hot dog with a fork and a knife because the bun started to completely fall apart when I tried to pick it up. You couldn't taste the hot dog, or the cheese, or the bun. Just chili. The fries were nice and crispy and well-seasoned. I would definitely return to Mustard's cause it seems like a great joint. I just won't get a dog with chili next time. read more

This place had everything you need in a Chicago dog joint. I prefer Cubs to White Sox, but that aside, they're playing the radio with hits from the 80's and 90's, gumball and chicklet machines, Chicago decor, and most of all, good dogs with Vienna stuff. The place just feels right on the inside - like you're in Chicago and it's 1987 all of a sudden. Surely John Hughes would approve. In a way, it's representative of what's been lost with the new breed of restaurants and how everything feels so contrived now. This place is more than just a hot dog stand - it's the type of institution that's becoming more and more rare as is worth preserving. Ordered 2 chili cheese dogs. I had to pay extra for cheese on the chili cheese dogs. This might have been an error but it seems to be part of their attitude. They don't bring the food to you and they expect you to clean the tables but they still ask for a 20% tip upon check out. Also, they charge about a $1 more each for the two other items that we ordered than what was listed on the menu. The food was fine just frustrated for basically overcharging for each item we ordered. Place was not busy on a Sunday at lunch time. Second time and probably last time to visit this place. read more

I have a bone to pick with 5280 Magazine. In the current Top of the Town issue for 2009 they named Steve's Snappin Dogs as "Best Hot Dog." With as much as I like Steve's (see three star review), it doesn't hold a candle to Mustard's Last Stand. Everything at Mustard's is good, from the 1/4 lb Vienna dogs to the traditional Vienna style rolls, lots of condiments - served up hot and fantastic. The fries are homemade, thick-cut and hot - although a bit limp. Mustard's outdoor patio has lots of picnic tables as well as trees for shade. Service is good and staff is super friendly. My only complaint is that they charge for re-fills on your drink (what the...). For a doggone great meal (and a free piece of apple pie on the 4th of July), Mustard's Last Stand is at the top of my list. read more

Hello Chicago dog... This little restaurant used Vienna hot dogs and Vienna toppings. I'm told this is a big deal. It certainly tasted great. The Chicago dog was tender, juicy, and the bun was pillowy soft. Two slices of tomato and two "sport peppers" plus Chicago relish and yellow mustard made for one tasty little meal! I would 5-star but our fries, although generously portioned, were fried longer than they should have been, leaving them a bit bitter. Overall though, delicious! read more

The place was packed inside and out at 3pm on Sunday afternoon. We each ordered a Chicago Style hot dog with all the toppings ($3.25) plus a large fries ($2.45) to share. Service was speedy though not especially friendly. We managed to nab a table, although it was right next to the restrooms which was a bit annoying. The hot dogs were excellent - tasty meaty frank smothered in fresh and crispy onions, tomato, hot peppers, relish and sauerkraut (I'll give the 'kraut a miss next time though... Just personal preference). The bun was steamy warm and light as a feather. The fries were handcut, piping hot and cooked perfectly. I'm not usually a fan of mustard but their Dusseldorf mustard was amazing! Gotta remember to buy a jar next time I'm there (I HAVE to try their chili cheese dog. It looked delicious). Ive been here once before. The menu has alot to take in. And you can order your burger anyway you want to. Ive always been partial to the Dbl Burger. They also have a Bison burger on the menu. And Hotdogs among other tasty treats. The employees are friendly and dont mind if it takes a minute for you to decide what you want. Its going to take a while for your food to be prepared but its fresh and the quality shows. The fries are hand cut and delicious. The burger i had was cooked on a grill but had this smokiness taste and smell that i cant put my finger on how they do it but yummy. The burger wasnt to greasy i ordered it with Cheddar cheese. The seating area is a little cramped and they offer outdoor seating where you can bring your dog if your out on a walk and have a hankering for a burger or dog or chili cheese fries which is awesome. And while your eating you can look on University and see friendly people walking by who wave at you which is awesome. read more

We have eaten at Mustard's by DU for many years. The rest of my family enjoys burgers and fries, so always order that. My go-to has been the tuna steak sandwich - delicious. We stopped there the other night and although the tuna steak was still posted on the menu, I was told that they no longer serve it. I needed a quick substitute, so ordered the smoked German bratwurst. It came out late (some problem in the kitchen) and was really dried out. Not likely to go back, too bad. read more

Every college campus has the classic pizza or hamburger place nearby. If I went to DU, I'm guessing that I would have come here on a weekly basis. You've got some laidback down to earth guys hooking up the goodies. In fact, I remember that I went in on Halloween one year, and was entitled to a single Snickers mini-candy. What a deal!
