It has been a year and a half with multiple phone calls and they are still charging us. Are there more people that have had this experience? Great experience renting an instrument from here. My daughter needed a violin for her school music band. We filled out a form online and it was available for pick up the very next day. The rental rates are very reasonable. They gave her a brand new violin. After a couple weeks the violin had to be tuned and we took it back to them. It was done in less than 5 mins, at no extra cost. Not sure how their vinyl business works, but I ordered in May... its almost October and I have received 3 of 5. I received 1 vinyl in June. Got ETA others would be beginning of July. Got 2 more end of July. Got ETA August and pre-authorization charge. Got ETA for September and actual credit card charge... difference with pre-auth is credit card will show pending versus an actual charge. Called and they said money will be returned in 3 to 5 days. Called and emailed multiple times. The date just keeps changing. Very frustrating. read more

I was a customer for four years in the store. I have few issues recently that made me cancel my contract with them. The first one was a viola rental we dropped in Summer last year. After more than 2 years we decided to change the instrument for a bigger one. In December my oldest child decided not to continue with her lessons and when we returned the bigger instrument, the store didn't have it in the system only the old one. Therefore, they couldn't finalize the credit reimbursement until they investigated what happened with the first instrument. The manager accepted they had received it but they couldn't find it in the system. He said he would call us back but he didn't. It took almost 2 months to resolve the matter by contacting the headquarters. They canceled the account and they allowed us to keep the bigger viola. In the process, the manager was very rude and at some moment he raised his voice to the point of screaming at me. I had to tell him to lower his voice volume because he was very disrespectful and he apologized saying he had not noticed he was yelling at me. This situation made me consider canceling the contract back then because I was concerned if my youngest child could be exposed to that behavior. However, I continued due to she was happy with her teacher and the location was convenient. Unfortunately, one day my daughter was unable to have her music lesson because there was a strong verbal discussion between the teacher and manager. My daughter had to wait for me to arrive at the store outside the building. After I canceled my contract, I was offered to continue my two remaining classes as if nothing had happened. I am still looking for reimbursement for these two classes from the headquarters. I put two stars on this place instead of one because we had good experiences with teachers in the past but this place is not well managed. I don't recommend this place. read more

Never Rent any student level music instrument in this shop. They screw up people very badly. I was victim of this. I rent a music instrument in Music and Arts 2 year ago, When I am renting the instrument, Shop manager told that you can use the rent credit for buying any instrument on returning the rented instrument. recently I went to return my instrument, they told like you r not eligible to use the rental credit on other instrument and u have to use it only on the instrument you buy. I got 400+ on rental credit, I asked for the same worth of any other instrument. they told like you have to buy the same instrument which is worth of 900+, I need to pay additional money, otherwise I forgo the money and walk away with empty hand. I lost all credit and They lie on the rental credit at the time of purchase, when I am returning they told about terms and conditions apply on eligibility. I paid insurance also, once mouth piece broken, when I ask for replacement, they told it won't cover under the insurance. Its bad insurance. lady Manager was very worst manager i see in my life. I went to Music and Arts many times on returns issue(at least 4 or 5 times), they didn't process the returns well. First time I felt in my life i was cheated. Never ever go to this store, this is my strong recommendation. I am not sure why google not allow ZERO stars, I want to give ZERO or -5 Stars If i get a chance. read more

This company is unethical, unprofessional, lacks business organization and has NO customer service. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY IF YOU CAN AVOID IT. I doubt whether they would be in business if it were not for the fact that the elementary schools require our children to play an instrument. When my son was in elementary school at Cherry Crest, it was a requirement to play an instrument. We rented a trumpet from Music and Arts and then returned it when he graduated. Fast forward to today, 3 years later, when we receive a notice that our credit card has expired and the monthly dues for the trumpet need to be processed. Keep in mind, this is a trumpet that WE RETURNED 3 YEARS AGO and were still paying dues on it unbeknownst to us. They said I would have to show a receipt to prove we returned it which of course I don't have any longer. We had no idea we were being charged monthly still and also, they lost our records of return. After 5 different calls and trying to communicate with a manager or someone in charge, we finally caved and paid the balance due of $169.00 for a trumpet we don't have or own in order to protect our credit record. No one would work with us and the book keeping department was a joke. We are reporting this company to the Better Business Bureau as well. After reading several other reviews of this company, it seems I am not alone in getting jerked around by Music and Arts. read more

I have 2 daughters who rented violins through Music and Arts for use in their school orchestra. The contract we chose was that whatever money was paid for the rental of the instrument over the years could be applied towards the purchase/ownership of an instrument of EQUAL VALUE to the renal money accrued. The goal was for us to purchase a nice, high end instrument as the girls will be continuing their violin studies and performances in college. After years of rental, Music and Arts stated that they could not find our account, could not "find" how much money we had paid/invested in rental fees over the years and could not even find any evidence/tracking of their violins that we had in our possession based on the serial numbers inside the violin. They stated "the violins did not exist in their records" even though they were rented from their store. In other words, everything was lost. This was only determined when we went into the store to get new violin strings. When I contacted customer service with the problem, their response was that we could "keep" the violins that we had as a trade off. These violins were appraised and found to be inexpensive, beginner, entry level violins worth $400 at best. So after accruing $3300 in rental credit over many years, Music and Arts solution was to give me $800 worth of cheap instruments. They stated that they would conduct an "internal audit" to see what happened but after months of trying to contact them back, they haven't responded. DO NOT RENT FROM MUSIC AND ARTS FOR YOUR KIDS SCHOOL INSTRUMENT NEEDS. YOU WILL SPEND THOUSANDS AND BE LEFT WITH A CHEAP INSTRUMENT AND NO RECOURSE. IT IS A PONZI SCHEME! They forced me to pay for the instrument which I have rented for a school year and returned promptly. The store at Redmond did not provide me any receipt confirming the return and continued to charge my credit card. After reading similar reviews for this store I figured out that I am not the only one facing this problem - there are people complaining regarding same scamming practice at this store - they have returned the instrument, but the company continues to withdraw money from their account. read more

I thought everyone was very nice and helpful, well-informed and knowledgeable, even though it was a crowded, hectic environment at the school rental night. They handled it very well, with people firing off questions in every direction. They work well under pressure that's for sure. Brought my son to one of their little guitar clinics and he went kicking and screaming but after the hour clinic he definitely wanted to take guitar lessons, I was very happy about that because I think it's good for children to expand beyond sports. We had a very positive experience with this store. My daughter needed a violin for her school music class, and this was the most convenient place to rent one. While she was taking the class, my daughter over-tightened one of the strings, so we brought the violin in and they fixed it up quickly. We rented a clarinet from this company for many years. After a while we were told that we could buy out the instrument for $140. We went ahead and did that. A few months later I noticed that we were still being charged for our "bought" instrument. When we called customer service to clear this up, we were treated extremely rudely and told we still had addition money to pay. I don't write reviews like this but these guys are complete clowns. Absolutely do not give them your credit card information. They will hold onto it and charge you even after you've "closed" the account. Terrible customer service. Terrible company. At this point I may return our "bought" instrument and spend another $1000 just to not have to deal with these people. read more

The Music and Arts store in Charlottesville, Virginia is an absolute disaster of a store. The manager was an extremely difficult person to speak with as he had the ability to help return brand new equipment still completely packaged but decided to not do so because he simply "did not want to." One employee in particular was both condescending and disrespectful as he made taunts to my mother and I as we were exiting the store. How to drive your customers away - learn form Music and Art.... Awful company policies - not customer friendly at all. We rented a violin for my daughter in September. First day she took it to school, teacher told us that it was a very bad violin. Strings were all off and bridge was all messed up. Teacher spent a major portion of his class time on this violin. I called the store same night and they said to bring it back next morning . I took it back to store with in 36 hours and store could not refund money past 24 hours but they said customer services will be able to issue a refund in couple of weeks. After constant calling the store and customer service, we still didn't receive our refund. Today we were told they won't refund the money because it was past 24 hours. Really! So why didn't you tell me that right upfront? That is how you are going to drive your customers away. I'm never going back and I'm going to make sure to spread the word of my experience to everyone who is looking to rent musical instrument form them. Not a bad store at all, but very much a store for beginners. They had some eye candy acoustics on the wall, but most of the stock was low-end and honestly felt rather un-cared for, as if they just put it on the wall without setting things up. I can't imagine they'd want to spend all sorts of time doing nice setups and neck-adjustments on every squire guitar that comes through, but... I guess that's kind of my point. Any shop that has a "Please ask before playing" tag hanging on an Am Standard Precision bass just isn't quite the kind of shop I'm looking for. A great place to pop in quick for some basic necessities, and they have a nice selection of supplies for various instrumental needs, but they are very much servicing a target audience (beginner to intermediate) and so I was a bit underwhelmed for my needs. read more

Despite the reviews I decided to give this place a try. Poor new girl does not know what she is doing at all. Other than showing me where the music was, I found the song I wanted and she was going to tell me they didn't have it. I was super excited to rent a violin and get back into playing. I loved the feeling so I decided to jump and rent one for now to try for a few months. As the girl is writing a contract she tells me the first month amount, the reoccurring monthly amounts and also the totally price after payments and the price to pay it off today if I wanted to (30% discount! Awesome!). I sign the contract. She inputs all the information into the computer. Then she looks back at her book realized she did the math wrong and changed the total cost of the contract and the discounted amount. I agreed to one price. You don't have the right to void the contract I signed and change the price because you can't read your book right. Avoid this shady business at any cost. They try to scam people on purpose or not, just avoid and save yourself. read more

I told the salesperson Patrick about the situation with the Bellevue Store and he spoke with his district manager and she agreed to make the situation right. I went to the store and James Grennan, the store manager, helped me today and was fantastic. I will go out of my way to do all my future business with the Redmond Store. They pushed us to signed up for autopay with our credit card. When we call for credit back on music lessons cancellations, they refused to do it. This place is not very honest. To be honest, it didn't start out as smoothly as I would have liked, but after working with Patrick, things have gone very well. Right away, he got us the instrument we'd been trying to get for a couple of weeks. AWFUL customer service. Music and Arts provide inadequate information about extended summer rental and then hold the customer responsible. Mutliple voicemails to Music and Arts left unanswered, multiple calls to Schmeeds music for phone numbers to contact Music and Arts that were incorrect. when I finally did reach a live person, no one took responsibility and told me I was out of luck. I understand that no one is "getting rich" off the rental of this trumpet, but the lack of customer support is ashame. Their affiliate, Schmeeds in NJ was of no assistance either. It is disappointing that I have patronized their organization for 3 separate rental and now will buy my son a used trumpet to avoid dealing with either organization again. read more

This is one of the worst companies I've ever dealt with. I ordered a Buffet intermediate clarinet for my husband for Christmas. It arrived in a flimsy box with a big hole in it that went right through and damaged the clarinet case. When I called them it took me 2 hours to get someone to help me. I was transferred to no one, hung up on and spoken to very rudely. When I finally reached a supervisor I was told they would rush a new clarinet to me in time for Christmas. The replacement showed up December 27. The case and markings on the clarinet were completely different and in the box was a note that said, "Thanks for renting from us." I returned the damaged clarinet and case as they had asked. Today (Jan 2) I received a call from Music and Arts. When I answered it it was a recording instructing me to call them immediately! I did and was on hold again for half an hour. Eventually they determined that the damaged clarinet was en route to them. This afternoon I received a bill for 2 clarinets. I already paid for the first clarinet. I've never dealt with such a disorganized unprofessional company before. They are selling very expensive musical instruments throughout the Unites States and sending out badly packaged crap! This was a $1500 surprise Christmas present for my husband. Paid monthly rental fee over the phone. On the 3rd, M&A debited my checking for another payment. Called customer service that day. (1-800-237-7760 or 1-888-731-5396 and plan on at least a 20 to 30 minute wait) The purpose of the call was to ask for a reversal on the second payment. 5 days later the fee still has not been reversed. So I called today and spoke with Nick. He said I should be patient and plan on a 5 to 7 day wait for a refund. After our intense exchange back and forth, he hung up. Way to handle a customer who has been renting from you for over 13 months. M&A offers poor customer service, additional payments from your account when you've already paid and only 2 phone numbers to speak with the same person over and over again. M&A, please get Nick some much needed training and some people skills. Please rent your instruments from another business. This business does not appreciate loyal customers. Karma is real.
