It has been my pleasure to be in the background listening to John teach piano to our 12 yr old son for the past 18 months. What makes this unique is that the lessons take place in our house and our son is learning on his piano, on his turf. (It is nice for us logistically as well). My, 6 year old, has been taking piano lessons with Andrew for the last 9 months. As this was our first experience with music lessons I wasn't sure what to expect. In my previous life (prior to my 2nd child) I was a teacher and I knew the kind of teacher I wanted for my child, but wasn't completely sure how to find that person. We didn't have any friends that were taking piano so our resource was the Internet. I came across AWSOM and it looked like it could be a good fit. I figured best case we would have a really great experience, worst case we would find a different teacher. Well, lucky for us we definitely got the best case scenario. On my end, Andrew is super easy to work with - he communicates well and is very responsive (and he comes to our house which is a huge plus for me). As a piano teacher, Andrew, does a great job working with my daughter and she really enjoys him. He does a nice job of balancing the having fun and re-directing her to keep her on track. I took voice lessons from Nathan for a year and he is a fantastic instructor. I had some prior choral experience from high school ensembles, but Nathan helped me reach new heights in my personal musicianship. He brought positive energy and extensive knowledge to every session. He was able explain concepts and techniques with great clarity so I could apply them to my singing. Throughout the year we expanded my vocal range tremendously. Nathan helped me select new and challenging pieces and helped me get them performance-ready; from the first stages of sight reading to the final polishing with my accompanist. Aside from improving my technique, Nathan's encouraging attitude and guidance also helped me increase my confidence as a performer. After trouble with several other teachers in the area, we finally tried AWSOM for my daughter's cello lessons, because we really liked the trumpet teacher from there that we'd had for my son's lessons in the previous year. Hallelujah! My daughter has been taking lessons from Catrin, and we couldn't be happier. Catrin is encouraging (which is hard to find in our area) and really really knows her stuff. She not only teaches my daughter to play music, but to understand how her instrument works. The fact that she'll drive to our house so I don't have to do one more "mom taxi" thing is the icing on the cake. In addition, AWSOM has been very easy to contact when I have questions, and they have an equally easy online payment system. My only wish is that they had even more teachers so all my kids could take lessons from them! read more

My 10-year-old daughter is coming up on 2 months of piano lessons with John Hart, and she and I couldn't be more pleased both with John as a teacher and with my daughter's progress! My daughter has lessons with John Hart. We interviewed 4 piano teachers and found John to be the most accommodating with my daughter's love for improvisation. John is patient and calm and has a great sensitivity towards my daughter's sense of cooperation that day (she is 8 yo and likes to be active); sometimes her focus is not as it should be but John is able to somehow reign her in and have her be happy to be at the piano. Although he trains the basics, we found his teaching to be creative, as he is able to adapt the teaching to suit the temperament of his student. read more

My daughter started piano lessons in Holland when she was 4. We moved to Seattle and Travis is her new piano teacher. Now that she's 11, she's starting to define her own interests... and was hesitant about playing piano again... Finding a new Piano teacher was therefore a challenge! My 11yo son has been taking lessons with John for a year now. John has taught him the fundamentals, as well as improvisation. While my son loves all things sports and academics, piano is the only thing he practices without a reminder. He gets up early before school to sit at the piano and fill our home with music, practicing his assigned homework songs, as well as making up his own music.
