My son became interested in bass and guitar late last year. The staff has been wonderful to him, helping him pick the right strings and options. Lessons here are super affordable and rescheduling is easy. They even let you play the instruments for lessons so if you don't have one you can still learn. We ordered an amp online and got it delivered there during the holidays and pick up was easy. went in to sell some equipment, got a great price and payout, but they did big have enough cash on hand to give me cash so they wrote me a check. the sales manager said it would be about 5 minutes and it took roughly 20 minutes, I ended up being at the store for about an hour for the whole experience. Years ago, I bought a Takamine dreadnought from Guitar Center as a complete beginner, based on an employee's recommendation. It turned out to be a poor choice--way too big and uncomfortable for a beginner. I barely played it. Years later, I went back hoping to trade it in, only to be told they couldn't take it because the bridge needed to be re-glued. I had never noticed any issue, and the guitar was in the same condition as when I bought it. The employee showed me a tiny gap under the bridge using a piece of paper. Disappointing overall--they sold me a guitar that wasn't beginner-friendly and may have had a flaw from the start. read more

I walked into Guitar Center Redmond on August 14th, planning to treat myself to a Gibson Les Paul. I spent some time playing a few models until I came across a slightly used model, felt great, played awesome. Sweet! I took it to the counter, hoping to get some information on it. No one around. A few minutes pass and an employee walks by... "excuse me, I'd like to get some informa.."A man with an accent, rather rudely interrupts me, gives a "fuck you" smile, blurts out "IM TEACHING!" then walks away.I stand at the counter with another customer watching the employees down at the other register watching something on a phone. I think the experience overall is more like a 4-star, but giving it a 5 to boost from a 3-star average. Some people say they are dissatisfied with the inattentive service, but I prefer that over someone watching over my shoulders and asking me if I need something. I usually go in to try on some guitars every now and then, and they are very accommodating in terms of what I try. The selection definitely can be better, especially for low-middle range guitars like Yamaha, Eastman, etc. Overall I have only had good experiences with this place. read more

Service was top notch! Truly 5-star. We had such a fantastic experience buying a guitar for my daughter and one for my husband as well. Mikhael was so helpful and patient. This is my daughter's first guitar and had only taken a couple lessons so she wasn't really sure what she was looking for. He spent the time to educate us on all the different options and made recommendations based on her needs and expectations. Best part was when he suggested, "the guitar will pick you!" And asked her to point out what speaks to her. She lit up and found the perfect guitar. Since she doesn't know how to play yet he plugged it into an amp and played it for us so we could hear the instrument and showed us all the different features on the guitar and amp. After standing there for 10+ min I asked a guy named Benny if there was anyone that could help me and he snapped back "give me 10 seconds"... 10 min later I walked over near him again and he looked up at me as he was helping someone else... then 20 min after that I find out he went on a lunch break (at 7pm - 2 hrs to closing)... Asked another guy that walked by and he didn't let me finish the question and snapped back "I'm the lessons guy.. you'll have to ask someone else for help" The guy that ended up helping me (after nearly an hour of waiting) told me "I don't know a ton, I'm a DJ"... but at least he was nice enough to try to offer help. This place has way too few stars than it deserves, so I'm writing a review just because of that. The Guitar Center in Redmond is great. They have some nice guitars in the "platinum" room, they have drums, amplifiers, keyboards, headphones on the floor. You can touch it all, it's maintained in an excellent condition. A few times someone was jamming right there, and I just grabbed a guitar and joined them. It was a great experience! By the way, the guitar was really nice, and my friend ended up buying it a few months later. You can ship your orders there, returns are easy. No stupid questions, no looking down at you regardless of your musical proficiency. They help you load stuff in your car if you need help, answer questions (if they know answers of course). Everyone is very nice, welcoming and helpful. As with any present-day music store some specific stuff you want may not be there to try and of course there could be one-off situations when they have many customers and not enough staff, and you don't get your attention. However, I think it a great place to visit if you are a musician or if you want to take music as your hobby. Guitar Center is a large company, and it has its issues, but I think this specific place and this specific business in Redmond definitely deserves to be loved by the community. read more

The store opens until 9pm. I went in around 6pm and standing in front the "Repair" department for minutes and have not seeing a soul. Later they told me they currently have no repair guys available. I had to clarify what they meant by that, and they said the repair guys are usually here in the morning until 5pm. It would be helpful to customers if they can put up a sign on the Repair department counter with their "Business hours" for the Repair department. read more

This guitar center is located in the Redmond town center and has plenty of parking, which is a plus. There is a decent selection of guitars and the staff is usually ok about letting you try out the selection (Good to check out used equipment) if they are not too busy. I have purchased accessories, drum sticks and even a Yamaha-THR amp from this location, and found the experience to be OK (annoyed by the upsells, but I attribute that to their policy). Personally, I wont go to a Guitar Center anymore unless I want something immediately (strings,drumsticks) and for that this location is good. read more

TL:DR Deceiving, hard-selling, and overall very pushy staff that sell instruments like they are selling cars (but much worse to be honest). I was repeatedly persuaded to buy more and more expensive stuff. Do your research and avoid consulting their staff because they just want you buy more expensive stuff. Details: Hmm... where to start? I recently started learning drums. I started taking lessons and my first objective was to buy a beginner drumset. I was told by my instructor that I could go to the guitar center to find one for myself. So I went, and boy this store is so full of shit. I will break it down what happened. 1. I approached a staff member, asking if he could recommend me a drumset. Preferably electronic because I think an acoustic one is way too loud. 2. I was recommended the "Roland TD-17KVX V-Drums" for 1450 dollars, which comes with a hi-hat stand but not the base pedal which I have to buy separately. 3. I was hesitant overall, I literally know nothing about drums and I thought instrument stores don't work on a commission basis, so if the guy said I need a 1500 dollars drum then he must be right. But boy was I wrong. I was also told by this staff that they have a 5% cash back and 6 months financing program with no interest. When I got approved for 4500 dollars the staff immediately tried to persuade me to buy a 2500+ dollars drumset. 4. I then found out that this so-called financing program isn't a typical finance program, but a credit card that I am applying, and the 5% cashback is actually only valid for in-store purchase. This is all told to be me AFTER we finished pulling my credit and got approved. If I knew I was applying for a credit card I would have just paid with my own with more or less better benefits. 5. I was told that the store doesn't have this particular drumset so I would have to order online, but they have absolutely free shipping. We ordered this set online, ordered several other things like the throne, amplifier, and base pedal. I was told that I'm all set and I can just expect emails to show up. 6. I got the invoice showing I paid 70 dollars for shipping. I called 3 times to try to get the shipping cost refunded back to me. 7. When all the shipment arrived, I realized it didn't come with a Hi-hat stand. But I was told that the reason I'm buying this more expensive set is because it comes with a hi-hat stand. Apparently and I have already unpacked everything. I guess I am paying another 100 dollars for a stand because my hi-hat can't be mounted. 8. I was told by my instructor that I basically got sold things that are completely unnecessary to a complete beginner. read more

UN-*******-Believable?! Fire someone NOW! ... Absolutely one of the worst customer service experiences I have every experienced in my life. I went in to purchase three microphones, prepared to spend nearly $500. I went to the microphone area and was served by the kid that works there and I have to say, HE DID A GREAT JOB. I remember thinking to myself, "wow... that kid did a great job. He answered my questions and because of that, I feel better about purchasing 3 microphones from these guys"... I took the microphones to the counter, that is when I met the "Crazy Larry", the "you got to be ******* kidding me??!!" guy. As he is ringing up the purchase, he offers me the "coverage" plan they always offer you that guarantees replacement if something ever happens to the microphone, yadda, yadda... It is a ruggedized microphone that is designed to be knocked around and wasn't going to be used much anyways, I politely declined. He then says, "are you sure"? I said, "yes, I am sure". He then says, "well, it offers yada, yada and blah, blah, blah and this and that and... ". I said, "NO thank you, I am not interested in the coverage plan". He then says, ( absolutely true ), "... just hear me out., the coverage plan yada, yada, and blah, blah, blah... it will save you some money on this purchase??"... At this point I'm thinking, "What a fool... but he seems desperate so I'll just humor him and be nice and hear him out". I said, "ok, fine , how much will I save"?... I wait for about 2 minutes as he works on some numbers, and then says, "It will save you $12". Now I'm getting a bit irritated... He is haggling with me, won't take no for an answer, wasting my time and all of this for... $12 on a $500 microphone purchase?!... I literally laughed and said, "Seriously? Look, I'm not interested in the coverage plan and $12 is sort of a joke. I'm in a hurry and really just want to get out of here with my microphones. One last time, thanks, but NO THANKS"... He then says, "... ARE YOU SURE?"... In this moment, I can feel the hair standing up on the back of my neck. I stand there and just stare at the guy in silence preparing to carefully curtail my ever growing frustration and amazement at how inappropriate this guy was behaving... I said, "I AM NOT INTERESTED. I HAVE TOLD YOU NOW, 4 TIMES, THAT I AM NOT INTERESTED IN THE COVERAGE PLAN. YOU ARE WASTING MY TIME AND I AM ABOUT TO WALK OUT OF HERE AND PURCHASE NOTHING"... He says to me again, "... are you sure, you'll save $12 and the blah, blah, blah gives you yada, yada for 3 years and, and, and, .... "... I looked to my friend and said, "we are leaving"... I did not make any purchase. You literally can't make this up, it was SO BAD. Not only did Guitar Center lose $500+ in sales that evening, but the kid that helped me in the back of the store who did a nice job, lost his commission. And I was really insulted by this. If management reads this, you need to fire this guy immediately. He was a relatively short guy with black hair and a black beard, hairy. I think he was some kind of management role working the till. This guy needs to be fired. This was at the new Redmond, WA location at the Redmond Town Center. What a joke GC... read more

I've been here at RTC many times, to browse, carouse (without the alcohol) and to seek advice on new frontiers. I've found the staff knowledgeable and helpful even if sometimes seemingly indifferent. Better than the alternative, overbearing. I've gotten good follow up between visits on availability and out of stock items. As for customer service, I think it depends on what's going on at any given time, noise levels (stress) and number-of-customers (the sales staff receives commissions or benefits on sales and this may cause indifference if it's crowded and you're perceived as a Looky-Lou). Overall, it's a pleasure to be there amongst some of the funnest toys (for me) on the planet!! read more

I get it that this place is called _Guitar_ Center, and as far as Ican tell it's fine for guitar players. But the place sells a lot of other types of musical gear, including keyboards, which is why I was there. There are a lot of different types of keyboards, but somehow none of them were quite what I was looking for: a reasonably inexpensive five (or even four) octave keyboard, primarily for live play, but usable for composing input. Velocity sensitive was a must; aftertouch would be a bonus. I knew such things existed; I could buy them on-line if I were OK with buying without touching them first. But my niche was a void; they had low-cost two octave keyboards and expensive beautiful five octave and 88-key keyboards, and not much in between. They also didn't have anyone in the department to answer questions; the only help I got was from a fellow customer who knew her stuff. I got my wish at Goodwill: a five octave Yamaha with great sound, good feel, and decent appearance -- for $50. Back to Guitar Center though. I looked through the rest of the store, because I was there. I saw no brass instruments, so I would have been out of luck if I had wanted to try to re-learn my junior high school trombone. I saw no percussion other than drum kits, so it's not the place for my wife to buy a marimba. My impression of the selection is that if you're a wannabe rock star, no problem, but if you're a wannabe jazz, band, or classical musician, go somewhere else. Maybe I'm hard on the place for not being something it doesn't try to be, but I still think the low rating is fair on the basis of the near absence of any employees available to answer questions. But at least I have a place to go for guitar strings next time my father-in-law is in town. read more

Convenient to my place and I've shopped here at least 7 or 8 times, never had a bad experience and they have pretty good inventory, and if they don't have it you can order it online and pick it up pretty quickly. Easy to sell/trade gear here too. Sometimes it's hard to pin down an employee for help but that's like every music shop, they're usually just busy with other customers, so some patience goes a long way. I usually love coming here. But my last experience was pretty lousy. I come in looking for strings for my baritone ukulele. I had to wait 10 minutes to finally speak to someone, which isn't a big deal, it was Saturday and fairly busy. And when I asked for help they told me they didn't carry my strings in store since it's a rare instrument. So I asked if they could help me order them on their online store since I didn't know what to look for as it was my first time getting strings for this instrument to which the guy said, "it would probably be easier if you just did it yourself" So I left disappointed and just as lost about getting new strings as before I came into the store. This guitar center is conveniently located in Redmond town center and you can usually find a spot to park on the top level of the parking lot, right by the store, that's pretty handy. I've bought a couple guitars and an amp over the past few months and I like the sales staff at this location. The guitar sales crew are super helpful, and are fine about letting you play stuff. I got great advice and have been happy with purchases made there. Prices are the same prices you'll see everywhere. Guitar prices seem ominously the same everywhere. The reason to go to guitar center is the exclusive limited run guitars, that you can't get anywhere else. I picked up a really nice fender bass, seafoam green, P-J, Mexican built, played and sounded really nice. This SKU is exclusive to guitar centers. The selection here is pretty good. With instruments priced to suit all pockets. It's a guitar center, so, sometimes stuff is missing (I got a boss gt-1 effects unit and there wasn't a manual in the box, it's online, so no biggie). So make sure you get everything in the box if you think it's important to have. The other annoyance is you'll be asked a few times if you want extended warranty. I'll dock a star for this because it's often redundant. I have no idea if it is really "no questions asked" warranty or if using it it is a hassle - I was pushed pretty hard on buying it on one occasion. Fender's warranty is 2 years. I believe their thing is return to a fender authorized service center with receipt. GC extended warranty is they apparently cut you a gift voucher for the purchase price of the item. Who knows what the real deal is. I just don't necesssarily want to be pressured into purchasing it. After being asked if you want the extended warranty you'll be asked again on the electronic POS (no not that... point of sale device) if you want to buy extended warranty. GC Corporate obviously push staff to upsell this, but it's annoying. This store has a good selection of "consumables": strings, pedals, guitar straps, music books. The keyboards section is pretty basic. The range of guitar pedals is "bread and butter", good selection of boss pedals, Ibanez tube screamers, wah pedals, etc. read more

That was a long review! Happy to say that it turns out that the store manager, Nasser Abdallah, was not a good person to talk to, as he actually misled me about some facts. I went in to take the protection plan off of the order and spoke with the Customer Service rep and the salesperson. So glad I did! The discount actually WAS genuine and applicable. The protection plan was supposed to be part of the deal. The manager said that I shouldn't have gotten the discount or the protection plan. So steer clear of him. My salesperson was on the up and up-fortunately, aside from getting all stressed out, she didn't get in any trouble. I am happy with the service that I received now. I am disgusted with the store manager. Not only did he not attempt to fix the issues, but he made them worse. read more

I stopped in last weekend to look at Strats with my girlfriend. After a few minutes pulling a few examples off the wall, Nasser cane over and asked if we needed help. After learning this was my fIrst time with a Strat in my hands he got excited and led us into the "demo room". He then explained the differences between American Strats, plugged two different models into an amp and even gave some rudimentary playing instruction. I had a great experience here. I'm a complete beginner and wanted to get a smaller acoustic to start learning on since I'm small in stature. 4 or 5 different associates helped me out over the 2 days I was there; showing me guitars in the size range I was interested in, helping me test them out, etc. At one point I was trying to decide between two by determining which would be easier for me to play on the frets-- I'm a noob so I was really struggling with D chord over and over. The associate suggested I try an easier chord like A and walked me through how to do it. That helped so much and I was able to execute it on each guitar to see which one felt best. Considering I was pretty much flying blind I really appreciated the attention. When it was time to purchase they were happy to price match to their website's sale price. read more

The price and style are varied which is good for both beginner or advanced player. I have never seen these many guitars in my life. Some of them are very pretty. These guys schmoozed me into buying a defunct subwoofer they wouldn't take back. I bought it the day before taking it to a dusty outdoor environment and - due to dust on the product's surface, but no other wear whatsoever - they refused to honor their return policy. Their cited reason was that they couldn't resell it in its current condition, even though the thing was busted out of the box, and under no circumstances should have been resold to anyone...
