We enjoyed an amazing experience. The ambience was old world and that was just the beginning. The staff was attentive but not intrusive. Frankly I cannot recall better service even in multi-starred Michelin restaurants. Prosecco and desserts were provided on the house. Freshest ingredients were found in every course. The choices were eclectic and paired well. Seafood dishes were beyond the usual standard fare at many restaurants. An encyclopedic wine list was impressive. This quaint restaurant in the heart of Sorrento holds a lot of personality. Everything from the walls covered in memorabilia to the lighting, it is done quality. With comfortable seats and unique plating it is truly a high quality experience. While the food was delicious in flavor and presentation, it wasn't the best this city had to offer. HOWEVER the service absolutely was. The manager was personable and kind and the servers were absolutely wonderful and gave us a quality evening of laughter accompanied by a peaceful environment. Entrance is in an alley just past another larger restaurant owned by the same people. This was the best food and service we had while in multiple places for two weeks. Our service was exceptional and although the prices are higher then some, the food quality was worth it or more. Great service, food and ambiance. Immediately we were greeted with a glass of champagne. In my reservation I noted my allergies and the manager took the time to point out everything I could eat on the menu. Additionally, one of the breads for the table included nuts so they made me my own plate to accommodate me. It was the best Aperol spritz I have ever had and the food was very good! This was my favorite restraint in Sorrento! So many others were far too Americano but this one is definitely authentico!!! Additionally the staff was friendly and very helpful with the menu. Mario was our server and he was not only knowledgeable but incredibly kind and friendly. I told him how much I loved their beautiful menu- which was so creative and beautiful- and he gave me one to take as a keep sake. The ambiance was very romantic! Too much Curoso can be bad thing. My wife got food poisoning within minutes of eating our soup, part of a six-course meal. She spent as much time in the rest room as at the table, and the following day we missed our trip to Capri due to her illness. The soup was something out of a new-age chef's dream book, so unlike anything I've ever tasted. I knew at once the taste was awful, but my wife ate slightly more of it, only to discover that raw egg was used, and we quickly sent it back..... then the 25 minute wait for next course which seemed typical and kept repeating, all the while listening to old Caruso recordings repeat themselves. We love opera, but why the deluge of tracks from but one singer? Some of the courses were decent, though the final fish course was way overcooked and barely edible. The desert occupied a mere 2 inches of our plate. Kudos for the presentation, though more actual edible desert would have been appreciated. At this moment deciding about returning to restaurant and demanding refund. read more

This was a wonderful choice for a beautiful Sorrento evening to have a leisurely meal while being serenaded to Italian music. My girlfriend and I visited this location on our drive to the Amalfi coast. I saw good ratings as well as a past michellin star rating.Emphasis on the past! We were welcomed by a very friendly maitre D/ waiter. He accomodated us at a table in the corner. He helped us choose a wine and started us on our tasting menu. To begin the afternoon, a typical amuse bouche was offered with a tasting menu. Presentation was good; a macaron with gorgonzola, a gelatin piece and a chip customly formed with a cheese. Unfortunately, looks can be deceiving. The macaron, I soon realized was stuck to the plate, the chip was soggy which led me to believe this amuse bouche was most likely plated and left in the fridge from a while back. Next came the bread with homemade butter, curry butter, whipped butter and anchovy based butter. Best one was the curry ... rest were ehhhh. Did I mention the chefs freshly made bread was also days old?...... Please just buy a piece of bread from up the block for .50. Overall, dinner was average. Octopus was good and tender, spinach was cold and bland. Ravioli "mezzalune" were good but nothing to rave about lastly Spigola with cold flavorless potatoes covered in old truffle. My girlfriend and I felt bad as the front of house employees were very helpful and friendly but unfortunately they can only work with what the owners/ chef offer. For example, fly traps are not expensive and DIY is also possible. One got in my wine glass. The waiter noticed and strained it. I'm not picky so it was fine. Flies on our bread and lastly to finish the night, flies went in the complimentary limoncello as well..... Terrible Experience! read more

This restaurant was recommended to us by a local shop keeper. We went for lunch and enjoyed some outstanding entrees and exceptional service! The waiter went way beyond the norm for us - and his suggestions were excellent. It's a hidden gem - you have to know that it's there! My husband had a fish dish that he loved and I had a seafood soup. Warm pizza bread was brought to the table - and it was amazing. We didn't order dessert, but our fabulous waiter brought us a beautiful assortment of cookies and treats. We had a great experience there - would very highly recommend it! read more

I feel like this is unfair. Most of our Italian restaurants are getting 5 stars simply because we've never had food like this in the states! This place was recommended to us by our driver and boy was he on point with his recommendation! My husband had a shrimp pasta, the shrimp was ridiculously fresh but tasty at the same time. You know how sometimes seafood is "too fresh", this wasn't like that at all. It was perfect! Don't even get me started on their creme brûlée. It was possibly the best warm creme brûlée I ever had! AMAZING. During our whole study abroad in Sorrento wanted to go and finally went during our last week, and BOY WAS IT WORTH THE WAIT. The service was so amazing and friendly and honestly made the dinner. The man who seemed to be the owner gave us a huge list of specials and had great suggestions on wine from their bible of a wine list. There is a singer who works for the restaurant as well and is so friendly and really adds to the atmosphere. At the end of the meal we were given watermelon and, of course, lemoncello to finish off the meal. 100/10 would go back. read more

This place is PHENOMENAL. My two travel companions and I came here for our last big meal in Europe. The kitschy atmosphere was fun, but the service and the food completely blew my mind: perfectly cooked fresh octopus, zucchini flowers, crab ravioli, duck breast, swordfish, everything. Right down to the desert mousse plated as a perfect little gnome garden! Add friendly, attentive waiters with charm and humor in English and Italian and you've got the perfect night. Forget every over-priced, touristy restaurant in town. Ignore the people yelling at you to sit on their crowded patios. Get a table here. Do yourself a favor: show up at 8pm, order four courses, and leave at midnight. The three of us had antipasti, primi, secondi, desert/liqueur and two bottles of excellent wine and paid €260 for the best meal I've ever eaten. Worth. Every. Cent. (And I'm used to Midwest prices!) Museo Caruso was the site of my last dinner in Italy, and what a way to wrap up the trip of a lifetime! This is one of those places where the meal is more of an experience and every detail is tended to. The restaurant itself doubles as an opera museum. Opera fans could spend hours checking out all the cool stuff adorning the walls. This kid was just interested in the food, however! They have a wandering minstrel going from table to table singing fun Italian songs. This certainly adds to the ambiance and experience. Service in European restaurants usually sucks, but not here! The staff were lovely and accommodating. They offered great recommendations as well. To start I ordered the ravioli in marinara which was delicious. Just good, classic Italian. My dad got these fancy crab ravioli with various shellfish sprinkled on top. Way fancy but equally delicious according to him! For the main course I had a beef dish which was phenomenal. I was super full so everyone at the table had a taste and they all liked it as well. My dad ordered the tuna and said it was the best tuna he's ever had in his life. Who would have thought! We were too stuffed for dessert, but in typical Italian fashion no one cared!! We got a little complimentary plate of pastries and limoncello as well. Very well received! If you are looking to vacation in style and enjoy a phenomenal dining experience, this is a must! read more

This place is obviously resting on its laurels from a past glory. It's pretentiousness overwhelms as its monotonously themed decor depresses. The raw fish appetizer is the only reason it merits the two stars I give it, and that was fresh and well executed. The service was slow and aloof and the dungeonesque atmosphere was reminiscent of the German restaurant scene from Fast Times at Ridgemont High. The servers fervently pushed wine and other alcoholic beverages even after clearly explaining that I don't drink alcohol, even bringing a limoncello on the house and trying to get me to consume the same to the point of angering me. The slow roasted wild boar was truly as creative and flavorful as a frozen supermarket dinner. This was the absolute disappointment of a wonderful week in Sorrento. read more

During a recent trip to Italy with my siblings and our spouses we chose to have dinner at Caruso's twice.Between us we tried many of the dishes offered on the menu and were never disappointed.We had lots of fun with Antonio,singing many Italian favorites.Really appreciated the special attention that our waiter,Mario,showed us.He was always very pleasant and more than helpful.Only reason I didn't give this restaurant 5 stars was that the head waiter totally messed up my brother's order and never apologized for his mistake.He was a bit pompous and didn't contribute to a happy dining experience.Five Stars for Mario who attended to us and made our visits there so special! read more

This restaurant was so terrible we had to leave in the middle of our meal. At first we got there, and were given a chef's tasting. It was like a cold scrambled egg piece. My fiancé and I spent New Year's Eve at Museo Caruso and I have to say...unbelievable service!!! I had proposed to my girlfriend earlier that afternoon in Ravello and was hoping to end the day with great NYE dinner in Sorrento. Seafood is not my first choice when picking cuisine but the service and classy Italian experience made for a fun evening. The manager made it a point to check on each table at the end of the night which more restaurants should do. My fiancé and I will be heading back to Sorrento this October to make it official. If I could give this restaurant zero stars I would. I know quality food and live in the NYC area. Let me start with the fact that they padded the bill! They tried to overcharge us for several items thinking we wouldn't know any better. BEWARE. I rarely review restaurants but feel a need to save others from this absolutely horrible experience. First they bring out chef's amuse-bouche, which was stale. Clearly the tiny offerings were days old. We ordered the pasta special as an appetizer, no flavor and pasta was sticky. The cheese plate was a variety of five and several were clearly not fresh. For main course we ordered different seafood dishes. One was extremely overcooked and was sent back the other had zero flavor. The sauce was made with a rue and was almost gritty. It took more than two hours for the main course to arrive and there were few patrons. Lastly, they brought out complimentary cookies, which were also stale. The final straw was the padding of the bill. They charged us for four full orders of pasta when half was ordered for appetizer and an insalata di mare, which is a seafood salad when my nice ordered a plain mixed green salad. The overcharge for these items was about $60.00. This was intentional, make no mistake. Once caught they did take items off the bill. Do not waste your time and more importantly your money on this sham of a restaurant. read more
