    Shrimp Tempura Udon Noodles
    Michelle M.

The food wasn't horrible but definitely not anything spectacular. It was literally just fine. But the service... I don't know. I don't know if she was just young? VERY inexperienced? I just don't know. I literally had noodles hanging out of my mouth, mid slurp, when she asked me if I wanted a to go container. I mean, seriously? Obviously, I'm still working on it. Lol! They do have a lot for parking.

I'm originally from Chicago and we were looking for a quality sushi place in Indiana. Well we found it. We come here all the time. We love their Sushi. The sushi is so good and the staff is great. Highly recommend.

It's one of the better sushi places, in my opinion, in the area! The service is always great, our server Dylan was very attentive to us and made sure we were taken care of! I enjoy the nice quiet, low-key atmosphere. They have a different variety of sushi compared to other sushi restaurants in the area. It was refreshing to try new rolls! I would normally order Chinese dragon rolls and black dragon rolls when I'd crave sushi. Musashi had neither or not what I was quite looking for, but sometimes we find diamonds when searching for gold! I absolutely enjoyed the Musashi roll and eel tempura roll! Being a resident of Chesterton, it's nice to have a sushi place nearby instead of having to travel 15 minutes away.

I went here when it first opened around 2016. A classic go-to for me was the Beef Yakisoba. I remember it tasting pretty authentic. Had a bold rich flavor with the meat and veggies. In 2021, I got the Beef Yakisoba again... It was so bland. There was no thick sauce, no carrots which are main stables in yakisoba. The yakisoba lacked flavor. Any flavor at all came from the bitter bean sprouts. I was hoping this year would change that. I got the Shrimp Yakisoba to switch it up. I asked for them to put Yakisoba sauce on the side. No, it still is very bland with little to no flavor. The Yakisoba sauce didn't do much to save it. I'm glad I had enough Asian sauces at home to flavor it myself. Now, why the two stars if I hated the Yakisoba? Well their sushi is really good. I have no problem with that. It tastes extra fresh. First time, I got the salmon, eel and to be adventurous, octopus. All were excellent. Last time I went I got the Richie roll. Nothing beats the flavor of unagi sauce. Lastly, the other dishes I tried here was their Chicken Teriyaki Hibachi with fried rice and the house soup. The chicken had the typical sweet and savory flavor you get in teriyaki. But I felt like the rice needed some extra time to cook as it was quite dry. The house soup just french onion soup. It good if you want a familiar taste but I highly recommend the miso soup for that authentic Japanese flavor. Overall, highly recommend coming here for their sushi and having some miso soup on the side.

The best tempura there is in Northwest Indiana, and not to mention, the price is very reasonable. We'll be coming back here for more!!

Good wide menu with items that you don't find at your mainstream japanese restaurant. More like old school Chicago Japanese. (Thinking a blend here of old Ginza and maybe some parts Sunshine.) Maybe only with the departure of those favorites we appreciate more what has stayed on. Appetizer selection is long enough to just get small plates to share. Notables: - ebi snijo (homemade shrimp ball) - hamachi jaw (if you haven't had it) - hirame no cha soba age (fried green tea noodles and whitefish rolled with seaweed) - evokes the old Ginza restaurant for me - octopus sunomono Even after three recent visits without repeat apps, there are still more we haven't had elsewhere to try. Part of the reason for that is - we get entrees too. We've been happy with: - chirashi (curious how the sashimi D differs) - Salmon Bento (D) - so many different things fun to share! - Kuni's Special - gomaee and mixed seafood sunomono, then our choice of sashimi followed by saba - nabe yaki udon is reasonable here at $13 with two tempura shrimp Know there's lots of reviews here, but as long as there is room on weekends for us we're happy to share!

Updating my review for Tenjin (formerly Renga-Tei Japanese)…read more Feb. 2026 While hubs and I don't venture toward the city much, when we do we always tried to make a point to eat at Renga-Tei. We know the owners retired and sold their restaurant with recipes & techniques, but hadn't been in the area to dine under the new ownership. I feel like we cheated ourselves of an excellent dining experience! Few recent reviews mentioned the rise in menu prices, but honestly every restaurant has risen in price. The high quality of freshness and the good service we received matched the pricing. Hubs & I were in the city and decided to visit Tenjin. Already knowing the standards and quality of the previous owners, we hoped our dining experience would be similar and we were NOT disappointed! I called and easily made a reservation for 6:15 for the 2 of us on a Thursday evening. I immediately got a text confirmation of my reservation. As with typical Chicago traffic our timing had to be changed and there was no issue with modifying our reservation. I received another text confirmation with the new time. Stepping into Tenjin we were quickly greeted by the sushi chefs and other staff members. There was a party of 2 ahead of us and they were quickly seated. We were checked in next with our reservation and led to a spacious table toward the back. Our server quickly took our drink order (green tea) and gave us time to look over our menu. They had a special feature of the day, but we opted for something hubs and I both enjoyed - the Bento Box! We ordered edamame and goma-ae to start. The edamame was steamed to perfection, just tender enough without being mushy. The goma-ae portion was so generous! Hubby went for a double steak dinner combo A (no chicken) and I chose the steak and teriyaki salmon dinner combo B. We also had the appetizer sashimi and chef nigiri assortment. The sashimi and nigiri assortment was so fresh and generous, each bite was truly savored. The kampachi was my favorite, buttery and tender. The chef was incredibly kind to us because our assortments really were assortments - we didn't have duplicates between the sashimi and nigiri which was greatly appreciated. The dinner combinations were just as delicious, plenty of food to satisfy any hungry appetite. Each combo came with shrimp and vegetable tempura which was delicately battered and fried. The steaks and salmon cooked perfect without being dry or chewy. It also came with miso soup and salad. This was one dinner where our eyes were bigger than our stomachs, but that didn't stop us from savoring every single bite! There was plenty to eat and we had leftovers for the next day (which was just as delicious)! I wish we didn't fill ourselves up so much because I would have loved to see what was available for dessert. I guess this means we'll have to return again :) Our server was so kind. She gave us time to look over our menu, asked if we had any questions, kept our glasses refilled and our tea warm. Every server we saw that even was upbeat and so friendly to all the tables. They all seemed to pitch in to help one another. We left with extra full bellies, smiles on our faces, and warm wishes for a good night ringing in our ears. If you have been wondering if the food is the same or if the service has changed, don't think twice and make your reservation!

Happy Wok showed up on my Yelp at four stars, and I was excited going in. I ordered the Hunan Chicken and my son went with the Mongolian Beef. Both were from the lunch menu and both were labeled as spicy. I took one bite of mine and I immediately knew that there was zero spice. Additionally, there was zero flavor. I'm saying tasteless. To add insult to injury, the chicken was rubbery and the vegetables were undercooked and stiff. Very difficult to eat. So, I figured I had ordered the wrong meal for the day. Surely my son's meal of Mongolian Beef was better. Wrong. No spice. No flavor. Beef was rubbery. Hard vegetables. Those poor vegetables didn't even have enough cook time to soak in that lack of flavor. Luckily we had a side of rice and an egg roll to salvage at least something from this meal, right? Nope. They equaled the main meal with their total lack of flavor. It was a sad walk back to the Best Western from Happy Wok. I really wish it was good. The service was excellent. The owners seem super nice. I'm giving two stars just because of them. But this one is an avoid in my book.
