I finally tried this place out. Verdict : very good. I prefer the smoked salmon pieces, so I order 6. They were a bit thinner than I've tried elsewhere, but they were tasty. This is one of my favorite spots. It is quaint and in a strip mall with good sushi. For this area it is better than what is around it. It has a nostalgic feeling too it, but that is probably because I have been to Japan and it has that feeling, i.e. good portion control and low key but proper atmosphere. We came here on July 18, 2019. Waitress spilled whole glass of red wine on my husband that was for another table, she says sorry walks away, then comes back with towel for the floor instead of something for my husband. She brings us our check, I have to ask for some type of discount since my husband's shirt is ruined from wine she spilled on it, she takes off $2 to compensate for it, wow ok. Hit Musashi a bit before noon. Very clean establishment. Sat at bar and the service could not have been better. Ordered appetizers, tempura, moon roll sushi, yummy, and 2 hibachi lunches. Food tasted great; my soup was piping hot- -- the way I liked it. Server, Karena, made sure our glasses were never empty. Indulged even in the desserts. My favorite place to stop in Chesterton. The hostess is always polite and attentive while the sushi consistently arrives beautifully arranged, fresh, and tasty. Want to be visually wowed? I was very surprised at the quality of my meal. Its hard to find a really good sushi/hibachi restaurant outside of the city, but i was pleasantly surprised. I ordered the Lover roll, a perfect balance of sweet, spicy, and umami, it was perfectly crafted. The hot green tea was excellent, perfectly brewed, and the gyoza were simple and delicious. The only thing that was slightly amiss was the Vietnamese egg rolls, although very tasty, they were very greasy, yet somehow that fact did not degrade the egg roll. Finally a Japanese restaurant in our little town! I've gone weekly since they opened and was always very happy with the sushi and everything else. It's quite comfortable inside and now that they have their liquor license, the place is just right. Maybe a little less TV (or maybe show old movies) would be good. This place is awesome!!!!! Holy cow!!! Had the chicken pad Thai noodles and it Is better than P.F.Chang's. Really it is. Everything else looked excellent too. Hadn't had hibachi in awhile so I was pleased to eat here. The portions were a bit small compared to some other hibachi places in the area, but delicious nonetheless. Tried a piece of california roll my mom got and it was very good. We started with shrimp tempura. Though I know it'd be quite good if I could find the perfect sauce-to-bite ratio, I failed to do so and after eating several bites far too rich, I ate it plain which was quite bland. I gambled on the beer menu, which had two Japanese beers on it: Sapporo and Asahi. I was disappointed that my choice of Sapporo said "Bottled in La Cross, Wisconsin". Some research told me that Sapporo itself has a plant there, but I was bummed out having wanted a 'true' import. Good place, and it enriches the Chesterton restaurant scene quite a bit. My only reason for not giving 5 stars was the low portion sizes for the price. read more

Honestly disappointed. We usually go to Fuji in Portage but this is closer to home and we decided to try with high hopes. We ordered the spicy girl ($14), tuna dynamite ($11), Chesterton double dip ($14), and the chef's combo ($14). Our chefs choice combo was made up of three rolls that, if purchased separately, would have been CHEAPER (cucumber, California, spicy tuna). Spicy girl is neither spicy nor flavorful nor worth $14. Double dip was soggy. Overall, hardly a step above Stracks grocery sushi. Save your money and go to Fuji in Portage. It may look like a hole-in-the-wall but the flavor and value is far superior. read more

I ordered takeout for lunch from Musashi and I am so glad I did. We got the Beef Yakisoba which was excellent. We got all cooked rolls since I'm pregnant and they were all very delicious. Two words....Tuna Dynamite!!!!! Sooooo good. We have become regulars and really enjoy their sushi. I also think they have some great miso. Everything always tastes super fresh and they have a good array of maki options. My only complaint would be their "spicy" could be spicier. They are very nice when I ask for a little extra sriracha or some extra wasabi. : ) I've had the hibachi only once for lunch and the vegetables really were cooked perfectly. They are a small business and are getting to know their customers. I appreciate the fact that they know me when I come and let me have "my" table each time. I like that kind of service and attention.
