Cheese Mecca and community space for foodies! Murray's has just about every type of cheese you could imagine--and they have their own cheese cave! They also have various meats, pastas, olives, pickled vegetables. Anything you'd need to make a cheese board. Though they also have pre-made boards for when you're in a pinch. They also have butters, oils, sauces, marinades. Fresh breads, honeys, chocolates, coffees and teas. They have cheesemongers throughout the store, just waiting to help you out and find your dream cheeses! They also have a snack counter/small cafe where you can try dishes made with their cheeses (like a Mac n cheese bar, grilled cheese, etc). Murray's also ships cheeses and products. And they have classes to teach you about cheese, wine, and charcuterie!
This is a review for the mozzarella making class! We had such a great time. It was our first cheese class, so we learned some of the fundamentals of cheese composition. The class came with baguette slices and some small snacks like dried berries, nuts. They also gave us their house pesto and house red/white wine (yes, it's all you can drink but don't get too excited). We spent the next 1 hour + hands on -- from a cheese curd starter, to folding the cheese and shaping it into that classic, scrumptious mozzarella ball that we all know and love. Personally, my mozzarella ended up a bit too firm but it really made me appreciate how well-made professional handmade mozzarella is! At the end, you also get a discount on your purchase the same day!
I went back over valentines to pick up the mac and cheese and take it home to rebake. It tasted amazing and ended up having great mac and cheese for low effort.
This review is for the pasta making class with cheese tasting. This was my second class at Murray's. I've also taken many cooking classes at other spots- Taste Buds being my fave. This class just did not need the standards of other classes I've gone to. The reason I gave this 3-stars is because what you get for $100 is just not worth the price, plus the final product was inedible. The class consists of giving you flour and eggs to make the pasta, then roll it (which was super rushed), a "cheese tasting" (three tiny portions of cheese with some pesto) and unlimited wine (sparking white and red). You then bring the pasta home to cook it (with the instructions to use a fork if you haven't had enough time to roll your dough, which some didn't). I made the pasta when I got home and it was completely inedible as was the person's I went with. The instructor was nice and the room is beautiful, which is why I added a few stars. They're also great about making sure that your wine is filled up. Overall, I would not recommend for this price, especially when the end product was a throwaway.
The Christmas cheese spot for me . Every year I come here a few days before Christmas to get cheese to eat on the 25th. Take a number near the counter and when they call it you can get samples of a couple different cheeses and choose which cheeses you want fresh cut by the friendly staff . I always get the Herve Mons Bleu 1924. My favorite cheese. Absolutely delicious blue cheese . Recommended. I also tried the Tumbleweed cheese today and that one's really unique and tasty too. Love this place. They have physical gift cards too.
I was craving mac and cheese and figured that this place would make it great since it's a cheese shop. It was better than great, they had many different options, we got the cacio e Pepe mac and cheese. Every bite was more and more delicious. My bf got some chicken sandwich that we split in half and we were surprised at how good it was. I wasnt a huge fan of the sparkling water pictured, but we ended up getting a guava lemonade which they make in house. It was a solid lemonade. Would definitely come back to try some of the other options.
Cheddar and Candy Corn, who knew? I've been to Murrays a few times, and have ordered cheeses from the website many times, and despite the high prices, they always deliver (ba-dum, chh!). My wife took me here for the Halloween-themed, candy and cheese pairing class, and we had a blast. We were presented with five cheeses, each with a carefully selected candy pairing. We also got unlimited house wine and bowls of Marcona Almonds, bread, candied apricots, and dried cherries. The pairings were "Coupole" with a sour gummy worm, a NY Yellow cheddar with Candy Corn (which was wild but delicious), an Annalies with a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup, a Roomano (Not romano) with a Heath Bar, and a Barnstorm Blue cheese with milk chocolate. We were given a history of the cheeses and dairies, information about the making of said cheeses, and much much more. It was a fun and very informative 90 minute class, and we had a great time. Costumes were encouraged, and the room was set up in a spooky Halloween theme, with ambient lighting and a "spooky" scene set up on the tv screen. So fun!
A great Mozzarella Making class We have been buying and enjoying cheese from Murray's for many years. The selection is wonderful. We had the opportunity to take their Mozzarella class. It was a wonderful activity. The introduction to the Mozzarella family of cheeses was informative. The process of making Mozzarella was demonstrated and every attendee successfully make their own cheese. It was pleasant to speak with like minded participants. The instructor was knowledgeable and answered everyone's questions.
Cheese is my favorite food and this is one of my favorite cheese shops to visit. Murray's Cheese is located on Bleecker Street. I learned about this place years ago while doing a walking food tour of Greenwich Village. We got to sample various types of cheese when we visited here. Murray Greenberg founded Murray's Cheese in Greenwich Village in 1962. It is now owned by Kroger Company. Murray's is great place to pick up some artisanal cheese imported from different parts of the world. The staff here is very knowledgeable and helpful. In addition to cheese, Murray's sells specialty foods like jams, crackers, nuts, olives and chocolate. They also have a variety of meats. If you are big mac and cheese lover like me, the mac and cheese here is phenomenal. Murray's Cheese hosts in-person classes where you can learn about wine and cheese pairings and other topics like how to make mozzarella. You can also sign up for their cheese club subscription and have cheese delivered to your front door.

Actually came here for a Burrata making class and of course went shopping g after. I love that they offer classes, it was great for dates, friends and family activities. The hosts were prompt, knowledgeable and I enjoyed the tasting and hands-on experience and of course the adult beverages that were constantly flowing. Once the class ended, naturally we made our way to shop their selections. The staff were so friendly and had recommendations ready for us to bring home.
I love eating cheese in food like anybody else in the world, but definitely not a type to be seeking artisan cheeses or anything. But the Murray's Melt had this on my list of eats, so had to drop by. Kind of overwhelming with all the different kinds of cheese on display here. Checked them out and asked about the melt and there was a counter on the other/left side of the store where you could get the melts. Ended up trying a piece of some Gouda, and it was excellent! Had no intentions of getting anything but the melt here, but ended up buying some of that cheese since it was so good and wanted to take some to the relatives gathering that evening. Ordered the Murray's Melt and sat on the bench outside the store to eat while hot. The bread, the cheeses, all perfect and absolutely the best basic grilled cheese I've had. (flavor wise, the grilled cheese in some small joint near San Diego Safari back in Cali was the best since it used like cheese toasts for the bread and had other things that raised the bar to the top. I looked it up, Marinade on Main, in Ramona, CA. Caprese Grilled Cheese sandwich w tomato soup. "Marinade Style". in case if you ever make it out there, lol)

Did a class here and had the most amazing time. The location has so many classes so can choose whichever interests you. We did wine and cheese pairing which was so detailed. Class was 2 hours and went through 4 different wine and cheeses. Really loved this experience and recommend read more
This place is dream for cheese lovers! The service was friendly and especially helpful for a first-timer like me. With some guidance, I landed on the truffle mac & cheese, and I'm glad I did. It was rich, and clearly made with real truffle. If you don't know, many of us have unknowingly been duped by "truffle" products made with questionable ingredients. My past stomach aches can sadly confirm this. I also tried the lobster roll. It was decent and the flavor was there, but it felt slightly overcooked for my taste. The butter sauce, the roll, and the lobster all a bit too well done. Maybe I'll catch it on a better day next time. This is a great spot to explore new food combinations like cheeses, jams, and crackers, and to get inspired for making charcuterie boards or entertaining ideas at home. I'll be back for that mac & cheese alone. read more

Took a super fun and engaging burrata making class at Murray's! I highly recommend it for anyone who wants a super fun and delicious cheese tasting and making experience. The experience also came with unlimited Prosecco and wine which was a plus! We took a burrata making class at 1 pm on a Sunday. Upon arriving you enter Murray's cheese shop we asked someone where the burrata making class was, and we were taken upstairs to the class. It was an intimate class with about 10 people. It's a really cute couple activity or something to do with your girls. Our teacher was great. She was very friendly and showed us step by step instructions on how to make a burrata. It was a super fun and delicious experience. At the end of the experience we also got to take some extra curds to practice making our own burrata at home. It was a wonderful experience and, I would definitely do it again! read more

Once you step into this cheese oasis you immediately get smacked in the face with the scent of all those strong cheeses mixed together. It's a cheese lover's heaven and a lactose intolerant person's nightmare. There are so many wonderful options that are prepackaged or cut from the massive display. They have premade charcuterie boards and prepackaged specialty ice cream and yogurt. My friend and I came here to try their famous Mac and cheese and it definitely did not disappoint! The cheese was gooey and creamy. It was extremely rich but you could pick out several different flavors of cheese. The bread crumbs on top were a great addition of flavor and texture. The noodles were not too soft either. A great grab and go specialty Mac and cheese! I would happily come back to try some signature cheese cuts although it is pricey. Very fun choices though and big store! read more

I love the cheeses from Murray's cheese! It's often my go to whenever I need to bring cheese to a wine and cheese night. They have a great selection! The Mac and cheese from here is absolutely incredible and that is what I'd recommend getting! They have several seats available and the shop is really big so it's also a great spot that doubles as a casual restaurant to go to with friends or on your own. read more
Murray's has the largest selection of stinky cheeses in the City as far as I know. Fairway Market dramatically reduced their selection. I buy stinky cheeses to build my own charcuterie board. The prices at Murray's cost a pretty penny, but I know that I am buying premium cheese. read more

Look, the famous Murray's Cheese doesn't really need another five-star review from little old me, a visiting Clevelander. You know this place is great. It's Murray's Cheese. But in case you're wondering if it's really worth the visit, I'm here to pile on and to help confirm for you that YES, it is, and you should go. Seriously. Who ever regrets cheese? I got the French onion mac & cheese -- the small was plenty! -- and tried a sample of the lobster mac, which I liked even more. I also grabbed samples of a couple of types of blue cheese and took photos of a few products I'd like to order from them online later because Lord knows I'm not flying back to Cleveland toting cheese and a bunch of, like, pickles and jam. Also, if you're a Swiftie, head right across the street for a photo under the Cornelia St. sign. Cheese & TSwift? A win of a day. You're welcome. read more

I love Murray's Obsessed ! I did not know they offer pasta making classes. That's cool , we love this location, they are so informative, some reviews show pictures of the amazing selection . I have never tried the famous grilled cheese , looks so good . But I do mail order when not in New York ! You can make a meal out of a great cheese & just adding a few additional things . Murray's cheeses play well with others ! I also ordered the salami , and it was so thinly sliced , just as it should be & the prosciutto , also so good . The aged cave Gruyère , just the best I have ever had . Last order I got a couple of cheddars , really so much better than any others I have ever had . Murray's makes life better ! A must ! The buffalo mac & cheese is so so good! Ordered through GrubHub and it arrived quickly and still hot. It is the perfect amount of buffalo sauce and smokiness, it's super cheesy and savory. Don't let the small bowl size fool you, it is very filling. Next time I'm getting a large! I do wish there were more chicken pieces in there, I had about 3 or 4. Overall a great lunch! read more

Imagine the heartiest, cheesiest mac and cheese sandwiched between two slices of bread, then given the panini press treatment to meld all that gooey goodness together. Yes, it's as delightful as it sounds. They had this sandwich on National Grilled Cheese Day, and I'm not sure if they do it any other days of the year, but they should! The concept is simple, but the execution is where Murray's shines--well, mostly. The bread could have used a bit more time in the press to achieve that ideal crispy exterior, but this slight miss is easily forgiven. The cheese pulls are real, and they're spectacular! Service here is another high point. Murray's always seems to nail the customer experience with staff who are enthusiastic about their cheeses. Quick, friendly, and knowledgeable, they make any visit a pleasure. read more

I've been wanted to stop into Murray's for awhile now. The cheese selection was a little overwhelming and I didn't know where to start. I'm sure if I asked someone they could have helped but I wasn't looking for anything specific and everything looked good. We ended up finding Duke's mayo (mayo available in the south), Benton's bacon (the best!), some iberico chorizo, and I picked out a soft cheese (tallegio) and a semi soft cheese (drunken goat). Really liked the drunken goat snd the tallegio was a bit funky but best when melted into grilled cheese (without the rind). The chorizo was tasty, as was the bacon and mayo. It was fun to get those hard to find items. I imagine a cheese tasting here would be a good way to try different types. read more

I attended the pasta making class with my boyfriend. They give you unlimited wine and a cheese board on the side while you're waiting for your pasta to firm up. I would definitely recommend going and trying one of their classes. I bought a 5 year Parmigiano Reggiano and it was so good I finished the whole thing in 2 days. Their breakfast burrito is also really good. Definitely won't regret stopping by. read more
We went to Murray's for a burrata cheese making class. They started on time, checked everybody in. Class was 90 minutes and did include (basically) bottomless wine, tasting of different cheeses and then finally the actual making of the cheese. Ambiance and knowledge sharing was great in the class. I will say that it only takes like 15 minutes to actually make the cheese so if you are going to one - know that there is some wine drinking / cheese tasting before you actually go to make your cheese! Solid cheeses from a delivery, including the Gouda and I went to the store to see if I could pick up more varieties to try, turns out they elare open 10am to 8p every day, so convenient..unless you're an early riser like me and there at 9. Hm. Well, will have to try picking up here another day! Delivery btw was a big expense - for the charge I could buy more cheese instead, hence the visit in person. Well lit and open store floorplan from what I saw. Good cleanliness. read more
