various types of cheese on display

Stumbled upon this place and decided to go in. Such a little gem full of different types of cheese. Friendly and knowledgeable employees too! Highly recommend - great selection of other things too!

Well what do you know a cheese store 2 blocks from the job I didn't know about, I only worked Midtown East 7 years so what you expect. So I'm thinking while looking at cheese wheels in the window, hey next time I cook pasta instead of whipping out the green container of Kraft Parmesan cheese that should get the real deal and grate it over the pasta like they do in those fancy Italian restaurants. Well the shop got more than cheeses, they got things you may eat with your cheese like crackers, sauces, meats, cold cuts, oils, pasta, and lots more. You can ask for samples here but I didn't have time to shop. But I did get me a nice chunk of Parmigiano Reggiano with the rind still attached and some Pecorino Romano because it had some of that cheese aroma going for it. I haven't ate my cheeses yet because you can't eat this $$ cheese with supermarket pasta can you ? Plus I got to do my own sauce now from scratch too.

NEW FAV CHEESE SHOP in NYC .. liking it better than the famous Murray's cheese shop.. all the tourists & crowds can go there, i'll stick w/ ideal cheese love the selection here PLUS the cheese mongers really know how to please a palate! we loved all the suggestions he gave us after only asking us what types of cheeses we already knew we liked --holzhoffer cow's milk cheese: this was my fav of the ones we took home that day haven't tried their meats but i'll be back FREE SAMPLES in the back & of course you can sample anything you want to try out before committing to buying!

Lousy service! Sullen clerks. Poor selection. All in all a bad experience. I won't shop here again.

While in NY I picked up a few pounds of my favorite cheese, Prima Donna, a Dutch gouda-type cheese.

They also have various meats, pastas, olives, pickled vegetables. Anything you'd need to make a cheese board. Though they also have pre-made boards for when you're in a pinch. They also have butters, oils, sauces, marinades. Fresh breads, honeys, chocolates, coffees and teas. They have cheesemongers throughout the store, just waiting to help you out and find your dream cheeses! They also have a snack counter/small cafe where you can try dishes made with their cheeses (like a Mac n cheese bar, grilled cheese, etc). Murray's also ships cheeses and products. And they have classes to teach you about cheese, wine, and charcuterie!

This class just did not need the standards of other classes I've gone to. The reason I gave this 3-stars is because what you get for $100 is just not worth the price, plus the final product was inedible. The class consists of giving you flour and eggs to make the pasta, then roll it (which was super rushed), a "cheese tasting" (three tiny portions of cheese with some pesto) and unlimited wine (sparking white and red). You then bring the pasta home to cook it (with the instructions to use a fork if you haven't had enough time to roll your dough, which some didn't). I made the pasta when I got home and it was completely inedible as was the person's I went with. The instructor was nice and the room is beautiful, which is why I added a few stars. They're also great about making sure that your wine is filled up. Overall, I would not recommend for this price, especially when the end product was a throwaway.

My wife and I had a stellar evening on a fancy night out…read more We split the kale salad to start, and then split the three-cheese fondue for our main. The salad was fresh, flavorful, and not too heavy; we were happy to start with something light before moving to the cheese fondue. The fondue was pure delight. Obviously at one level you can't go wrong melting a bunch of cheese together, but it was truly fantastic, better than other fondues we've had. If I would offer a mild criticism, I think the dippers aside from the bread (cooked cauliflower, cornichons, potatoes) were unexceptional - I would have liked maybe apples, raw cauliflower instead of cooked, and raw carrots or broccoli. But regardless we enjoyed every bite. For dessert we split the chocolate fondue, which was a dream. Here the dippers (bananas, strawberries, Belgian waffle bits) were perfect. I thought the waffles would be so-so but the waffles were flavorful with a perfect crunch to them. Our service was also stellar. At this kind of place one expects very good service, but my wife and I both thought that our waitress went above and beyond. Attentive without being overbearing, helpful with wine recommendations, great with a camera, and pleasant to talk to. I don't care as much about ambiance one way or the other, but it was a lovely setting, appropriate for fine dining. This is a great place to go for a date or special occasion and I recommend it to anyone.

From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with nothing but warm hospitality. Our server was incredibly friendly and even asked if we had a show to get to so he could expedite our food. So considerate! The prix fixe was really good value - starter, main, desert AND a bottle of wine for $99! The salad was really tasty, I liked the warm walnuts and the figs added a nice contrast of texture and sweetness. Of the other items in the tasting board, I really enjoyed the Kashkaval cheese. We didn't opt for any add ons/fondue dippers with our fondue, so only had bread. While we did feel full at the end, next time I'd go for an add on for more variety. Highly recommend and can't emphasize the warm hospitality and great service enough.

And because I was looking forward to fondue that day, we decided to go with the regular menu. The base fondue was $24/pp which I think was really reasonable. We ordered: ~ Cheddar & Cider fondue - Cheddar, cider, onion jam (the flavors really complimented well. The cider gave it a nice sweetness to the cheese. I can eat the cheese all day) The fondue was served in a cast iron pot and you get baguette for the dipping. You can pay more for additional add ons but we decided to just stick with the baguette. ~ Two Skewers Plate (Kofte Colorado lamb, herbs, spices & Chicken yogurt, red pepper, herbs, spices) Served with house-made harissa and tzatziki, and a choice of mushroom bulgur or squash caponata. ( We were informed if you don't like olives go with the mushroom bulgur, which we did). Initially I was worried the chicken skewers would be too dry ( as that is the case for a lot of places) but no, the chicken wasn't dry and it was well seasoned. I'm happy that I went. It's a cute little date spot to do fondue.

I don't think they actually milk the goats or wash the rinds, if that's what you're asking. Nor do they have a company retail shop as far as I know, at least not here. Nevertheless, I have had so much pleasure over the years their cheeses in my local shops and restaurants, now called Mitica (meaning "myth") here in the US, that I want to give them a shout-out here. What prompted this was a small sliver of Campo de Montalban I picked up from the "odds and ends" bin at Whole Foods, that happened to be perfectly paired with a bourbon-barrel aged heirloom cider I also bought there, it was a lot like the Spanish cheese Mancheco but more rounded for me with a little funkiness in addition to the nutty taste. Anyway, it was one of those peak cheese moments. Several other Mitica cheeses are on my go-to list, so all I can say is Thank You!!! FWIW they have started to import other mediterranean products like olive oil, chocolate, and so on, but are mostly known for cheese.
