York Deli has become my go to on the Upper East Side. It's a neighborhood deli in every sense of the word. Angel, the owner, is friendly and cheerful. He greets regulars with banter, jokes, and occasional nicknames. There's usually Spanish music or pop playing, and it always feels like a spontaneous party is dangerously close to breaking out, especially on Saturday mornings. And the food is solid. I tend towards a BEC and always appreciate that it's made to order and with real eggs. Also--if you tip after receiving your breakfast order, Angel rings a bell and cheer. It's fun. So many of the newer delis popping up feel corporate and anesthetized, but York Deli is a throwback. It's welcoming and warm and really makes this UES corner feel like a community. read more

Sandwich was good. Fresh meat and decent portion. Problem was, I don't appreciate being lied to. Menu says $11.99, any bread. I got a hero and the price was... $15. I was in the mood for a BEC and figured that a local deli like this one would be the perfect place to go! York deli definitely serves a classic bacon egg and cheese sandwich on a roll; nothing fancy but you know exactly what you're getting when you order it. The only thing that could have improved was the bread; it was pretty bland tasting and the bread can sometimes make or break a sandwich. I found myself walking thru the upper east side and decided to step inside the York deli. The guy behind the counter was very helpful and I ended getting a pastrami sandwich. The sandwich was great and a really good size. Prices are super reasonable. The menu here will satisfy anybody who is looking for a deli type breakfast or lunch. read more

FIRST! Right, but only because I'm reviewing my corner bodega, which I know is super-lame, but I totally dig this place. I come here for three reasons: 1) Vitamin Water/Snapple White Teas 2) My-Friend-Will-Arrive-in-Ten-Minutes Beer 3) Entemann's Glazed Pop-Ems, my #1 source of saturated fat These things are always fresh and always in stock. The guy behind the counter remembers me now and kinda smiles at the fact that I'm always buying the same thing. I also suspect he might think I'm a total man-whore, but that's neither here nor there. But the REAL reason I'm writing this review is to confess that they had this cat that I hated, and one time when nobody was watching I scared it and threw a bag of chips at it and then it ran away from me when I was leaving. It went out the door and around the corner, and I haven't seen it since. So it's probably dead because of me. UPDATE: The cat has returned! I saw it walking around outside yesterday. It even sorta walked up to me, so either it's forgiven me or it's gaining my trust as it plans its revenge. read more

My neighborhood go-to. They have just about everything I need. Great egg sandwiches. They carry Boars Head cold cuts - (need I say more) and make a kick-ass turkey sandwich. They are open until 4 or 4:30am...Staff is always friendly. There aren't many neighborhood establishments that have survived this long. I feel way better purchasing small goods here than Duane Reade across the street. Support the little guy! read more

And I'll be honest - it is because of two things, and two things only: 1. York plays better music. 2. The guys behind the counter don't creep me out quite as much. Otherwise, this is your standard deli. Boar's Head meat sandwiches, $4 breakfast "specials", nasty slop buffet-type food, overpriced convenience-size staples (chips, candy, soda, bread, condiments, etc). Fast Delivery, good food and friendly personal service. Cons: expensive. Would not include my free small coffee with my breakfast sandwich because "I didn't get meat on the sandwich" (I got an extra egg instead). 4.00 for an egg sandwich on a roll even by NYC standards, it should definitely have came with a free coffee, especial because I am a repeat customer. I love this place. I live just around the corner and go here all the time. They have really good sandwiches with the standard Boar's Head. The breakfast sandwiches are also really good. The guys who work here are awesome as well. They really try and get to know their customers. My only problem with it, is they charge extra for lettuce, tomato and mayo on the sandwiches. Very sad this old time deli, with the old time deli aroma and sign is no more. The only thing remaining is the sign. Sad because the old guys always delivered what you ordered and knew how to make a sandwich. New guys cannot get a delivery order right, EVER. It's not rocket science. Its wrong EVERYTIME. I go here to get York Deli Sandwich and coffees. I just went here for a Sausage and egg on a bagel and it was fantastic. The best one I've had in this area as of late. It's good every time. Make sure you hold your spot in the line because people come in and everyone tries to pay all at the same time. So, the guy who gets the paper wants to go ahead of the other guy who ordered a sandwich and then that's what happens. Prices are decent. If it was a little cheaper I'd go here every time. read more

Great deli with hot entrees that you don't have to take from a shared buffet. (Those are disgusting.) I can get restaurant-quality roast chicken and mashed potatoes, and it doesn't cost restaurant prices. I can even get a large or small! Grab a couple beers, and I'm set for the night in less than 5 minutes. And Victor's review? Yelp really needs a negative feedback option. Cheese is a premium item everywhere. If there is one thing I hear New Yorkers are fond of- it is their local bodega - So it should come as no surprise I love everyone at York deli. All of the people who work there are super nice. Things to note: They have great iced coffee. I especially like their roasted potatoes which they have all of the time. Also, their sausage and peppers sandwiches are VERY yummy (no need to go to little Italy). But most notable are the chocolate chocolate chip muffins which are highly addictive- so purchase at your own risk. Other delis / restaurants in the area have muffins. However, york deli have the best one's by far. pick one up on your next trip. read more
