The pharmacy has gotten a lot of information wrong. Told me I had one refill left when I had three. Told me covid tests are not covered by my insurance when they are. Told me I can't move prescriptions from a different Duane Reade (also in Manhattan) w/o losing all but one month refill order -- that the entire prescription will be automatically cancelled except for one month if I move it from one Manhattan Duane Reade to another. It's very strange. They're not unpleasant, the prescriptions get filled on time, the place is convenient and large and clean. We've had no real problems and even like the place -- it's just that the information is often wrong! They seem to have hired a few new people recently. Maybe they'll improve things. read more

Service here was a bit slow - took a while to run up my card. Aside from that, a bit disorganized, food stuffs and other high-margin products in the very back of the store instead of near the exit, and some really annoying placement of various products in the store make this well-lit, but crowded area. read more

Came in for a quick box of bandaids. Fairly convenient since it's open 24/7 and somewhat close to Grand Central though you might as well go to the CVS nearby. This Duane Reade is much like any of the other dozens of them around the city but they're open 24 hours and that is definitely handy. They have a small food and produce section, which is a new addition and if you're in a hurry it's a great option because they do carry the staples. They've renovated several times over the years to make the location nicer and they have succeeded. Their pharmacists are knowledgeable and kind. But what I like best about this location is whether it's the pharmacy or the staff working at the registers they are always nice to my mom when she comes in with me and they get major brownie points for that. read more

First time for everything! Had to have my Doctor in WA send my prescription off to a Duane Reade pharmacy so that I could pick it up while traveling in NY. Made a few calls to make it happen, and finally arrived to be told my prescription was at another DR pharmacy. They made it seem very inconvenient to do a transfer, despite how simple it was once they agreed. The associate at the pharmacy was not at all friendly, and seemed slightly incompetent. If I didn't know any better, I'd think they were fresh out of high school with no credentials to be behind the counter. No restrooms either - this was a really big inconvenience for me. Makes you appreciate the Target or CVS pharmacies... who would have thought?! read more

What I love about places like Duane Reade are the derelicts.....er, clientele. The cast of characters could be an instant sitcom, The Wanderer, Mr. Indecisive, Ms Hair Style is OH so wrong. They will somehow manage to mess up your prescription order EVERY SINGLE TIME. I don't know how they do it. As if that weren't bad enough, they will give you an attitude when you point out their mistake. Nine out of 10 times, your prescriptions won't be ready when they are supposed to be. Other times, they won't give you the # of pills you are supposed to get. Yet other times, they manage to give you someone else's prescriptions... Who doesn't love a 24x7 drugstore? Extremely convenient right? But the cast of walking dead (zombies) work as cashiers here. The most efficient cashier was an 80 year lady. The rest looked like they were on drugs. The beer aisle was empty. The ice cream was stale. Junky place with the homeless cursing at everyone late in the evening. Unsafe location at night. read more

How did I NOT write a review for them yet?!?! For a year and a half, I've been here pretty much every other day (I take care of Mom, and she has several serious issues), so these guys are like family. Pharmacy staff: F-A-S-T!!!! Not only that, every single time, they've went out of their way to make my life easier - be it urgent processing, contacting doctors, or flagging issues. Every single Lady there (only Ladies in the Rx dept) has been delightful, helpful and kind. I cannot say enough good things about them. I lack the vocabulary to convey the extent of how fabulous they are!!! General staff: they're my buddies!!! Always welcome me when I come in, are patient and mindful of my packaging quirks, which they know and remember. Always ALWAYS kind - bringing baskets, letting me park my stuff in the front, alerting me to savings (they remember my shopping list - this is a UN area pharmacy, can you imagine how many people go through them?!?!) Super-clean, well-organized, GREAT communication between them when the line gets long-ish - staffed immediately, line gone in 2 minutes flat! Stuff is appropriately branded 99.9% of the time - in the 1.5 years, there's only been a couple of items I've not known prices for. This store is very well managed - yes. But aside from Management, the quality of people they employ is stellar. They are truly a Team who care about each other. And their customers. Thank you, all. I come here quite often and have had many normal experiences. However, today, I went to get a snack on a work break and only brought $5 with me. Not even realizing it, I picked up something else that made my purchase $6. The cashier was pleasant and when I asked her to put the extra item back she quickly took her own dollar out and rung it in before I could stop her. She even gave me the leftover change! I will certainly pay this kindness forward to someone but I will be back to give her the $1 back! She was truly a breath of fresh air through a rough work day! read more

a ok duane reade /walgreens on 2nd ave between 45th and 46th st. this duane reade has gone thru many makeovers over the years and it seems they finally got it right or close to it. your basic stuff her including a pharmacy in the back to the right which is not open 24/7 but the rest of the place is. a good selection of cold drinks including beer , plenty of assorted vitamins , the usual health aid like cold meds , body creams, shampoos , soaps , lady products and other stuff you really don't need . it's all about what's on sale cause prices are kinda high so look for the weekly sales and use your walgreens card for points for future purchases. besides the lady pharmacy tech, workers are always coming and going but overall are friendly and helpful . overall it's a plus having a drug store open 24/7 . read more

ZERO star, I was buying a toy at 6:30 pm Sat 11/30/2013.The Cashier was socializing with male customer while transaction was finished. I waited for ten minutes and ask the cashier if he is available. He was not too happy to be interrupted. I was carrying merchandized for a while and I probably dropped it hard on the counter. He was angry that I am rude to him. So I left and not buy the item.He is young african american with chip in his shoulder. He is not there to cashier but to socialize I think. I promise myself I will never,never enter your store ever again.It is sad that I just came from Holy family Church and be tempted by a devil. Very sad experience!!!! The older women cashier are more professional and helpful and no chop in the shoulder. You should train this part timer more on CUSTOMER SERVICE. Jojo 6262 read more

This location is forever under renovation so I don't know my way around it, which is very frustrating. That being said, the aesthetic upgrades are definitely an improvement from the previous run-down store that it was (aside from the poorly placed cash registers which don't allow for a proper line to form). They also don't carry Oil of Olay daily facials, which is a serious offense as far as I'm considered. However, I can't complain (too) much when I compare this spot to the DR in my old hood, where the cashier used to bully me. read more

Had an absolutely horrible customer service experience at the Duane Reade on 2nd Ave between 45th & 46th Streets. I waited 20 minutes at the pharmacy counter to pick up a box of cold medicine, only to be told after all that time that they were out (yet the cards were still on display in the aisle). There is no indication that government-issued ID is required to purchase these - since I didn't have ID, I couldn't buy anything anyway. I left the pharmacy line to buy something else (that didn't require ID), and there was only one register open at the front of the store and about 12 people on the line. I needed to buy these items because I was sick, and I didn't need to spend nearly 30 minutes waiting in lines only to buy nothing. read more
