We were in New York on vacation and our hotel, The Knickerbocker gave me Coupon to get a discount. I thought why not use it! I always need something! I was helped by Sky and she was fantastic to find the right shade for my foundation! She took the time and I didn't feel rushed as right now I have a tan from a previous vacation in Hawaii. As I was checking out, the sales associate asked who helped me and Sky didn't give me her name. The sales associate let me go find Sky to find out her name. Jason is knowledgeable and answered all my questions without showing any signs of impatience. He was very professional and I was si impressed with him, one so young! Jason even put me on "game". You're allowed three samples of take away fragrance which he so kindly bottled, labeled and packed away for me. It was as if it was the most expensive purchase in the world. I'm not sure why this is but customers aren't allowed to tip staff and try as I did, (I know I'm bad sort of) Jason stuck to his company's policy. I placed an order for store pickup and got a confirmation email. After a few hours I ended up calling the store because it wasn't showing as fulfilled. It was only showing as processing. The woman I spoke to on the phone was super condescending and essentially insinuated that I never got the confirmation email. I told her that's what I'm looking at right now and she said well the order was likely already canceled and I just didn't know what I was doing. After hanging up and logging into my account, I still saw the order showing as processing so perhaps she should do more due diligence on her side to see what the problem is instead of blaming it on the customer. read more

I have had some great experiences at this store. They staff is very helpful and accommodating. They are eager to provide samples to introduce customers to new products. I have learned a lot about skin care from the staff here. Sadly, my favorite cast member, Dina, no longer works here but she must have taught the rest of the employees everything she knows because they're great, too. This and all Sephoras will do your make up for a mere $50 purchase and that $50 can be spent on anything. So if you're going to buy perfume, eye cream or a gift for someone, might as well get your make up done while you're there. You'll leave looking fly and confident AF! read more

It's generally filled with tourists and the aisles are cramped. I mean they are tiny. I'm not that big and I feel like a bull in a china shop when I walk through here. However, they always have the cologne I use in stock. The staff are friendly and efficient so I can go in here, get my Acqua Di Gio and be out the door in just a few minutes. I think this was the busiest Sephora I've ever been in. The line moved relatively quickly though. I had gone in for my birthday reward, but they only had one of the options available. One thing I love about New York is that if you have an errand to run, chances are you don't actually have to go out of your way to run it. This is certainly true of anything you have to drive to a mall to accomplish in L.A. (my husband and I call these "Glendale errands"). You can just happen across the errand place and take care of shit on the go. I came into some Sephora gift cards ages ago, but I often go several months at a time without coming across a Sephora. In New York--midtown, anyway, where I stayed on my last visit--it seems you can't walk six blocks without seeing one of these stores. I passed this location a few times just in the course of walking around near my hotel, and finally decided to go in. It was exactly like every other Sephora I've ever been in. Huge selection of all things makeup, pretty busy, but with a big staff to take care of customers. I knew what I wanted, so I went straight for the NARS section, where I picked up a new tube of my everyday lipstick (the first lipstick I've ever used up in my whole life; very proud). While I was there, with gift card money to spare, I tried on a few other lipstick colors, ultimately deciding on a nice wearable red. One of the beautifully made up Sephora ladies came by and asked if I needed anything, and I asked her opinion on the color. She said it looked good, but that I should probably do something about all the reddish pigment smeared all around my lips from the different colors I'd tried and wiped off. She offered to touch it up for me, and within thirty seconds, she'd fixed the entire bottom of my face. Remarkable skill. I still have two more $25 gift cards, which I'll wait to use until something else in my arsenal runs out. I'll either take a trip to my nearest mall or wait for my next trip to New York, when I'm sure to run right into another Sephora. read more

I'm surprised this store is only rated 3 stars. I had a wonderful experience today. I came in to pick up an order but also needed to grab a hair mask. The attendant (Slim Asian woman) at the door pointed to a special gift set and then also let me know where the full size container of the mask was located. I ended up going with the gift set so I could try the other products. Went to the cashier who was very nice ( the blonde with the forehead tattoo), he even gave me my bday gift which I was supposed to pick up in JUNE! Also, I always forget to ask for samples (in my experience, most of the time they don't give you samples unless you ask) but I remembered to ask today and he had them in his hand even before I mentioned it. THAT is customer service. Only one star off because they should have a dedicated line for pick up orders, it allows for less ppl to be at the store at the same time. The location is great but some of the products can't be found here because it's limited to certain brands. For example Stilla's brand isn't here. Staffers are busy because the location is busy. The store is medium sized store. When I couldn't find Stilla, the staff suggested Sephora at Times Square. I'm not going to go to another store of course. I found some great items to enjoy. This Sephora is conveniently located near Grand Central Station. They are pretty helpful and let you try samples of the cologne before you make a purchase. One of the best products for men at the store is also probably one of the most reasonably priced. It is a true treasure and in my own personal opinion, this store exists for one important reason: to sell Proraso Shaving Cream. The original green one. It costs $10. If you shave and you don't use this product, you either have no idea what you are doing or have bad taste and judgment. It goes a long way when used with a shaving brush. It contains menthol and eucalyptus and even softens your brush. The recipe for being a gentleman is a complex formula, but I can assure you, menthol and eucalyptus are important ingredients. So if you are a man, and you want to be an epic gentleman, go into Sephora, walk past the women with the make up engaging in witch craft and buy yourself some Proraso Shaving Cream. If you have some time, walk around the store and without being a damn creep, watch how those make up artists perform crazy magic on women in the store. Remember that trickery for the rest of your life, because at some point, that make up has to come off and if you make decisions based on looks, you may be in for a big surprise. If you have followed my advice, and still fell victim to a witch or witchcraft aka make up artistry, don't fret, just use your Proraso Shaving Cream to perform some witchcraft of your own. read more

I came here super clueless on skin care last Thursday night, until the nice light skin guy with glasses by the cosmetics section took his time to go over different skin products and found a few that best suit me. I wish I would've gotten his name. This is the first Sephora I've been to that someone actually took their time to explain products without looking like they hate doing so. I didn't even know there was a Sephora in this area. Now I know why. This is a totally unremarkable store. It is very weirdly laid out, not too much rhyme or reason. The selection isn't especially big and the displays are not conveniently laid out. It is very hard to sample an item in a display because you will then be blocking a walkway. The staff also seems very preoccupied. While walking around, no one asked me if I needed assistance. The staff was congregated together chatting and not helping the customers. When I handed my item to the register person, she was scowling at the screen (not RBF) which made me think my credit card didn't go through. When I asked her if there was a problem, she said no.... When I said thank you after my transaction, she nodded at me. I think some customer service training is needed..... read more

I needed to get shade matched and I also wanted my ColorIQ updated and was brushed off or ignored by employees. I first went up to a lady standing at a lipstick display and asked if she could help me get my ColorIQ. She said she'll get to me in a second after helping out a current client. Her current client was literally just putting on different shades of lipstick herself and wasn't talking to her. And how much help does she need if she's already doing it herself? Anyway, I said ok and waited nearby. After checking some emails, I looked up and this employee was nowhere to be found! I looked around the store and saw her helping someone else on the other side! Not happy with waiting around for no reason, I went back to the ColorIQ area and went up to an employee touching up her makeup. I started asking for her help BUT THEN she all of a sudden starts saying hi to someone she knows and chatting with him. I was in that store and couldn't get help from anyone! AND this has happened to me in other stores. I swear I think there's a difference in customer service when you have a full face of makeup on or none at all. I didn't go in with any makeup and they probably just assume I don't need it or something! And worst of all is that today I had my anniversary dinner with my boyfriend and needed help but couldn't get any!! Do yourself a favor and shop online instead. Needed to pick up a whole new line of skincare products as it's one of my resolutions to take better care of my skin! After doing my research online, I decided to try out a mix of kiehl's and drunk elephant products. Thankfully, my Sephora app was able to tell me what was in stock and what wasn't at this location, which is the closest to me. All but one of the products I needed were in stock so I made my way over to pick up my new products! And of course, I picked up a couple other things because I couldn't help myself. First to review? Wow. I work in this Sephora's building. It can't get any more convenient, but I somehow only drop by once a quarter, if even that. There was a Clarisonic deal that disappeared on the website. I got a coupon, so I went to the store to investigate if they had any more of the deal left. They did! They also had the great Stila $10 bronzer deal left - I got the last one, have no idea where they stocked it, but am glad I asked. There was a very lazy employee. The store wasn't busy. I walked around and found an employee near by, I didn't catch her name but I will try my best to describe her. She has brown skin, long black hair, and avg weight and she might be from West Indies. I asked her if she can help me with a sample of something, she said "look for a girl on her other side of the store, I don't know where the containers are". So I walked over to the other side of the store could not find one or busy with some one. So I walked back to the section she was in (perfume area) and i asked "can you help me find someone on that side because I can't find someone", she said "you will have to wait until the make up girl is done with her client and she might know where it is, I don't know where the container is". I manage to see a different Sephora girl who helped me out. However, this employee didn't want to help me. She wasn't busy. She was just walking around the perfume area. What I didn't understand was why she didn't want to go ask her fellow where the containers are or even attempt to look the containers. Also why do I have to wait for the make up girl who is busy with a client. I shouldn't have to wait. You should be helping me. Managers and hire up, please hire good employees who is willing to work for the company and help the customers. We don't need people like her in your store / company. The company is wasting money on employee like her when there are other people who are looking for jobs and willing to do the job. Sephora have many tutorials about make up and skin care and at the end of the video it states that if we need help we can go to the store and ask the Sephora girls for help. In my case today 2/4/2020 around 3:30pm Sephora girl did not meet Sephora standards. Please, filter horrible employee in your store / company. Customer needs to be treated fairly and equally. The employees in this Sephora need additional customer service training. I only go to this location because I work on the same block and it's very convenient for me. Many of the employees have an attitude problem when I pay for my items, I'm a VIB member, if that even matters here. These are experiences I've had with customer service at this location: 1. Today I went looking for the Benefit Goof Proof brow pencil, I could not find it and finally flagged down an employee and asked if they had any more in a shade 2. The employee didn't even stop walking by me, or verify what I was asking for and said "no sorry we are out of that" and walked away. I looked around at the additional benefit shelves and found several of the product in a shade 2 myself. Not only was this employee unhelpful, but she was wrong, there were many of the product. 2. Often I go into this store and it is very obvious that the employees are talking about the customers on the headsets. One of the employee's KIMBERLEE literally watched me for ten minutes trying to find a Clinque foundation that was discontinued, and I could hear her saying on the headset "Watch this customer......Watch what she is doing" while she was watching me struggling to find a product. She then watched me walk to the register and pay for my item. It is extremely unprofessional to speak about customers over the headsets, especially when the customers themselves can hear you. It is also very unprofessional to watch a customer for a long period of time and not offer any assistance. 3. I was looking for my shade of foundation, no one was around or was willing to assist me. I ended up opening the drawers of one of the YSL displays down below trying to find my shade. An employee jumped out of nowhere saying "you can't open the drawers!!!". If the employees were a little more helpful and friendly perhaps the customers would not be forced to open the drawers. 4. Often the cashier does not tell me how many VIB points I have and I have to ask, and they don't ask if I want to redeem my points. 5. I am never offered free samples, one time I asked if there were any and the cashier was extremely rude and said no. In general this store should be an embarrassment to Sephora. Please train the staff on customer service. After today's experience I will not be going to this location again. read more

The staff and the lack of basic customer service here was appalling. After simply asking if someone worked here and could help me, at first I was blatantly ignored and then when I continued to stand there in disbelief, she snapped, "I'm wearing the whole outfit, aren't I?" I should've gotten her name, but she was wearing awful blue lipstick, a nose piercing, and big black glasses. I was standing behind her. Not only was this completely not okay, but none of them seemed to know where anything was. I'm also a Rouge member, who has been shopping at Sephora for years. Whether you're having a bad day or not, if you're on the sales floor, you shouldn't talk to customers like that. On Xmas eve I wanted to buy myself some Anti aging products. Some I knew I wanted the others are flexible (because of what they had in stock) I tried calling but the automated messaging system was a bust, didn't know if they were open Or not. I walked over from 3rd ave and saw they were open and immediately went to my line, Algenist. They had a random selection of things about 3 different lines with about 4-6 products each. K ( floor salesman) came over to help me. She was Great. I know what I like and she bent alittle what I was looking for, but I thought she was personable and honest. I turned out buying some lines I thought were "ok" but my main goal was to start helping my aging at 31. She was 39 and looking great so I think she was someone I could trust. She recommended a different cleanse and 3 pack from another line, showing me vitamin c serum included, I went home and tried it and my face feels nice right now, after 1 regime. I am happy with her recommendations and they products were great for the price. I spent about 45 dollars per bottle and I bought 5, so I think it was well worth it. read more

I'm always in this place. I can always find something to buy here. I like shopping here because if you don't like a product, even after you've used it, you can still return it for a refund. And I am the "Queen" of returns! lol Also, if you're going out, you can stop by here and freshen up your face before you move on. I've seen it done on Friday evenings and was LOL! I came here on a Sunday for make up application prior to a night out for my birthday. I had scheduled an afternoon appointment ahead of time online. Sephora has always been my go to for make up and application. I love that they have so many different brands to choose from and it ultimately introduces me to new products I love. Usually there is always someone to greet you, and many other workers milling about ready to lend a helping hand. I walked in and there was NO ONE to help me and no one to check in with for my appointment, so I walked to the cash. But there was also no one there. I waited and waited until the girl came back. When she finally did she was super helpful and was able to sit me down and introduce me to my artist. Good for me, and I really appreciated it, however she had to leave the cash again to walk me over there (because she couldn't get a hold of the girl on her ear piece), and the line up had started to really grow. Everything turned around from there and I ended up having a phenomenal experience. My make artist Andrea was AWESOME! She did my make up so perfectly and exactly how I love it. I was so happy! I also found some great new products that she used on me. She also had a great tip to highlight the curve of my upper lip. She was definitely in the know of new tips and tricks. Would not hesitate to go see her again at this location. I also loved how I bought all my new items and was able to pay her on her portable machine, no standing in line. LOVE it! There was a glitch and she had to get a new machine, and so she ended up giving me a free loot bag of samples. I didn't even care, but accepted the loot bag all the same. I have to be honest. My first impression was hesitant since I walked around aimlessly at first with literally no staff to help me. In the end however both employees who I interacted with went above and beyond and their services wowed me. I suspect the problem is not the workers, but likely management. Seriously stingy with samples - bought $200 worth of products, got a stupid acne treatment pouch. Kicker is - I don't have acne. Website gives you 3 samples with every purchase, no matter the amount. Those 2 free samples I didn't get? What do you want to bet they magically turn up on eBay? Selection very limited. All the good stuff is out of stock. Floor staff seriously don't care - a group of 3 were chatting while I was struggling to get past them with bags - not one moved. I've come here many times to purchase items and browse. In my experience the staff here is totally friendly, patient and they do their best help customers - however my only gripe is their occasional lack of product knowledge. I know Sephora does trainings for color, fragrance, skin care and hair stuff. Often times brands will send ambassadors to the store with goodies for their staff to try and they will run workshop like trainings to explain how their products work, ingredients used, brand history, how to get the best results, etc. How do I know this you ask? I worked at a Sephora briefly. Very briefly. As someone who is no stranger to most of the brands and products carried in Sephoras. Kinda bothers me whenever I DO have a question and no one knows the answer I'm either given some generic answer that totally sounds like BS or I'm delivered a line that I know managers teach to take the focus off them not knowing the information I want and so they try to recommend something else that they're more comfortable explaining. This practice is not cool, especially when a savvy customer knows the difference. I'm not even saying you need to be a former Sephora employee to know the difference, not at all, we're women! We frequent Sephora, (for the most part) we know our skin, favorite fragrance notes/oils, etc. I'm a fan of if you don't know the answer - THEN JUST SAY YOU DON'T KNOW THE ANSWER. Honesty is the best policy. In life, work, retail sale and most other things. That being said, this is still one of my fave Sephora locations. It's smaller than most, but I appreciate that. Ok so that was ridiculous. Went in this morning in search of a good eyeliner. I asked a saleswoman to point me in the right direction. She finds another woman, asks her my question in spanish. Woman #2 points me in the right direction and we have our entire "conversation" through hand motions and head nods because apparently her english is limited. I found what I was looking for but seriously 1) ALL of the sales people should know how to find eyeliner so I wouldnt have to be outsourced to anyone else and 2) ALL employees should speak english. Its Times Square, people where most of us have mastered multiple languages with English being the common denominator. This is Sephora, not a bodega. Please keep up. Was her interview done with head nods and hand motions too? Again, I got my eyeliner but the experience was a little odd. Maybe Sephora can start offering ESL classes in the breakroom or something. read more

If they deserve anything, it's probably half star for its convenient location. Otherwise, this place is just dismal at its best. Here's why. 1. Layout is confusing. They keep re-arranging the brand sections so never know where things are. They also make the aisles look very tight and narrow. 2. Inventory is always limited. They never seem to have full stock on certain items. 3. Staff are very good at being aloof and rude. Not sure if this stems from their management team but the staff here always seem to be in a pissy mood; especially the girl with the blue lipstick and nose piercing. Security guard looks at everyone from head to toe as if they are about to steal something. 4. Checkout line is always slow. It's always one or two people working at the cash register while there are 20 customers deep in line. With their continuously expanding product lines they offer, they should reconsider shuttering this location, re-train their staff, and open at a bigger location. read more

This is not a very good Sephora. I've been to many Sephoras in the Manhattan. This is the first one that I've walked into and wasn't greeted. That's very surprising since it was pretty empty when I went in. I had to struggle to find someone to color match me. The sales associate seemed very uninterested in helping me. This is confusing since she wasn't doing anything before I asked for help. I've worked in retail before and I always preferred to be doing something, not just standing around. It makes the time pass quicker. So, I don't know what the lady's problem was. Not only was the sales associate kind of rude, but she ended up selling me the wrong color. I've been color matched before, and I've never had it go so quickly. When I tried the product the next day, I was surprised. It was really off in the natural lighting. If you go when it's not crazy (i.e., not lunchtime), the gals are usually eager and happy to help you pick out what you need or want. Fairly large Sephora location and I like the location because its kind of away from all the craziness of Times Square and it is close to work. The workers there are not super friendly or attentive. They may ask if you need help but generally I find that I have to make the initiative if I need something or have a question. They seem to carry everything that one may expect; and the store is spacious enough to navigate through. Workers are willing to give you samples if you need it and seem to be super knowledgable about their station. Came in needing a new moisturizer and got converted to using Clarins and I love the product so far. I will definitely go back but do your research and know what you need and want before going in. read more
