Called to get a basic maintenance quote. Mechanic couldn't give a basic quote for a caliper replacement.

Don't ever buy a ford cars! it has been a nightmare for me. On the December 5 2018 , I have gone to pickup my car from my car dealer, because radio display problem and another problem was there a whooping noise coming from my car engine. they fixed the display problem but they could not find the noise problem even after I left my car there for whole day. Because the whooping noise is so annoying, so I decided to taken to another best rated ASE certified Murray's auto Clinic. in silver spring MD for a diagnosis to pinpoint the noise. and after couple hours, they technician have found the whooping noise from the timing belt area and they also have found another noise from the alternator. So on the December 14 2018, I have brought diagnosis paper to my car dealer, and after the service advisor Kevin Lacki read through the paper, he had told me that the Murray's auto shop just want to make money. My car dealer wont accept it even though the shop Murray's auto shop had already identified the noise problem my car dealer coudnt even verified it. so I also talked to my car dealer manager, he just even worse! he just told me keep driving my car with that loud whooping noise until my car break down? why don't you just tell that to all the customers that try to buy your car! read more

Took my Honda Civic 04 to get coolant leak fixed and had great service. I'm always apprehensive because unfortunately as a woman, I get taken for granted at auto shops. However, Murray's was upfront and professional. I dropped my car off on a Friday morning, by 5 pm it was ready for pick up. I've been so happy with how my car's running now! Husband, wife, four children, lots of cars over lots of years. Murray's has always done right by the family. Daughter had an recurring problem in an old and junky (but necessary) car. They did something to it, but weren't sure they'd fixed it. She was told to take it home and drive it - if the fix wasn't complete, they'd come get it; if the fix worked, she could come back and pay when she felt comfortable that it wouldn't happen again. After about a week, she went back to pay. Son had his car checked out before he drove across the country (alone) to take a job. Yes, its sometimes hard to get an appointment. Yes, it seems disorganized and grumpy. And yes, testosterone flows through the air ducts. But they do the work and do it well. I'm their customer for life. read more

Stumbled upon these guys by accident when my wife's car overheated on her way to, of all places, emissions. They happened to be close by (Murray's 2) where she was so we gave them a shot based on proximity and these reviews. Got so much more than we expected, service and communication was fantastic, the work was top notch, and they really went all out for us. Dennis, in particular, did a great job of keeping us posted and explaining everything that was going on (going so far as to show me the parts and what had happened to them when I came to pick up the car). My dad worked at a car dealership for 25 years so before moving up to DC, I never had to worry about finding a good mechanic. So when my oil light came on and I couldn't fix it by googling the problem or going to Advance Auto, I had a problem and went to Yelp to find a good local auto shop. I called Murray's on a Monday to get my car fixed and they were able to set me up for an appointment that same Wednesday. Their hours are 7 AM to 6 PM so I was able to drop my car off, go to work, then come get it after I was finished which was super convenient. They also have a shuttle service but I didn't use it so I'd encourage you to call them to ask about it. When I made my appointment they gave me an estimate of what an oil pressure check would cost. I'd encourage everybody to have an idea about what you need done before calling. Even if you don't know anything about cars, you can google your make/model and the issue you're having then you can have some idea about what's going on. When I dropped it off, they gave me an accurate estimate about when I'd hear something and they called me right at that time. When he called back, Alex said that they did not even need to do an oil pressure check because when they looked at the car they could see that there was a leak and he gave me an estimate of what it would cost to fix it. I really appreciated that they didn't do the pressure check anyway then charge me for that too. He told me some other things that he suggested fixing but didn't put any pressure on me to do them and he gave me time to call my dad to ask what he thought. The estimate he gave was accurate and they finished my car by 4 PM the same day. I liked Murray's because they were fair, honest, and didn't put pressure on me to fix things I didn't need right then and there. They even gave me an estimate of how much those extra things would cost. They were timely and friendly too. I'll definitely be back if anything else goes wrong! read more

We have been using Murray's for 17 years. Hand's down, the best auto-repair shop in the region. While they won't beat everybody for price, they more than make up for it with the best level of service and quality repair around. I used to live in Silver Spring and took several cars there on a regular basis. They are honest to the extreme- if they think your car is getting to old or decrepit to repair- they'll be up front and say so. I know of no other repair shop that would actually urge you to buy a new car and not indulge in another round of expensive repairs. I now live in Arlington and only hope that they open a branch in the Commonwealth. Do yourself a favor- take your car to Murray's. read more

I usually go to my parents' mechanic two hours away because he's a family friend and does work at cost. However, when I need emergency repairs done in the area, I go to Murray's. One of the things I hate about using some mechanics is that I feel fleeced after I pay the bill. However, the prices at Murray's are absolutely fair (I've comparison shopped) and the quality of the work is fantastic. In my humble opinion, one of the pillars of an outstanding business (especially when it comes to the much maligned universe of auto repair shops) is the level of customer service provided to customers and non-customers alike. This review is based on services I received, as well as the services I did not receive from Murray's. Let me explain: Was having vehicle issues and took to AAA auto service center (problems were diagnosed but one of the major issues was engine related, shop could not fix), took to another shop ($1,400 parts and labor for the flywheel - would further look at engine after fix was made). Wanted one more opinion, so I took to Murray's based off of other reviews. First I showed up a day early to my appt (I blame my car repair headache for memory loss - LOL) and even thought the shop was full, they were gracious enough to fit me in. They noted the exact same issues as the other places I went (nothing more/nothing less - also did not tell them the issues beforehand), but quoted me $800 less for the flywheel repair. They said it didn't make sense to make that repair because basically in addition to that, the car needed a new engine (estimated P&L - $3K-$5K). They were like sure we can fix the flywheel, but that's a temporary fix at best, we recommend re-building/re-placing the engine or you will continue to have problem after problem after problem. So you might be thinking wait....they were gonna charge you between $3K-$5K when the other place said $1,400... how does that warrant a 5-star rating...but here is the kicker - they had absolutely no reason (profit or otherwise) to make the recommendation, because their shop does not re-build engines, plus they did not direct me to any of their "partner" shops and said I should look around/read reviews/etc to find a reputable place that would be able to assist if I ended up deciding to re-build/replace the engine. An honest mechanic...still can't believe it! Also, offered me rides after drop-offs and were like if at any point you decide to purchase another used vehicle bring it by for a pre-purchase inspection "There are certainly a variety of issues that we won't be able to forsee, but there is plenty we can see, and hopefully we'd be able to give you some added confidence if you decide to go that route". Murray's auto clinic just fixed my AC and it now works like charm. They ended up changing a part instead of the entire compressor as the dealer had recommended. This means more than $1,000 saved. I started taking my cars to Murray's when I was in graduate school. That was about 25 years ago. Murray's is the only car repair place I have ever heard of that will occasionally give back the car with like a $28 bill, because nothing much was wrong with it other than a loose belt. The guys at Murray's are professional, responsive, and when they say the car will be done by 3PM, it's done by 3PM. They have kept my Toyota Sienna running like a charm for 130,000 miles, and now they are servicing my new Prius, my daughter's Honda Civic, my husband's BMW, and if I ever get another car, it will be cared for by Murrays. Why haven't I written to you about Murray's Auto Clinic before? Maybe because I tell you about these fantastic places, and you all go, and crowd the joint. There's not too much extra parking at Murray's; I do not want it to be discovered. I've been taking my aged Toyota Avalon to them for the past year or so, after losing faith in the dealer's service department. I suspect they didn't really want to keep polishing up the old girl When, last weekend, she just quit me as we were soaring down Route 95 in the far left lane, I real quick hit the flashers and rear-mirrored my way to the right-hand shoulder. I called AAA and waited, remembering that, yes, this had happend before. She had had the vapors in a similar setting years earlier, when we both were younger, and there'd been a big magilla with the dealer, expensive and time intensive. When I got it to Murray's they asked gently about her age again, and her advanced mileage. Then they wheeled her into the back. The crew looked inside and took some things apart, finding metal shavings and bolts in unexpected places. They found silicone stickum holding together nether parts. In a few hours, for half what the dealer charged, they fixed her. I cannot say enough good stuff about these guys. read more

Very clean shop and comfortable waiting area. Being a daddy's girl, I wasn't allowed to drive until I had a basic understanding of car maintenance. That being said, I know absolutely nothing about repairs because daddy and my cousin (a GM for a tire store back home) were always able to take care of my vehicles. I've only been to one other mechanic solo, and Murray's was better by far. Great customer service, honest about the needs of the vehicle, and it was really nice that they give you a courtesy ride home OR to the metro if you're out of their service area. I went here for the first time yesterday for a tire repair. Murray's was efficient and very reasonably priced. Not only did they remove, clean the tire, and replace the air nozzle--thus saving the tire and saving me an expensive replacement--they got it done by noon. Just great service. Not a fancy place- but who needs fancy when you get efficient and excellent work? I needed my flat tire plugged. I did not have time to wait, and so they drove me to work and picked me back up at the end of the day! They offered- I did not even ask. I do work nearby (~2 miles away)- so not sure how far they go. Big mistake going here. I was having some body work done next door, so I asked if they could take my car over to get a MD state inspection while it was there. Even though I had just had it inspected in VA just 1.5 mos earlier (they found a few problems but I got them all fixed), all of a sudden it had all these problems that Murray's would gladly do for $800. New wiper blades for $85 that I had just replace 3 weeks earlier? Not kidding. Replacing a tire for $80 labor? I can get that done at NTB for $35. Even though they told me that the inspection cost was $79, they tried to charge me $105. When I asked, they said it was because of my window tint and they quoted me the lower price because they didn't know I had window tint. What? Isn't the testing the window tint part of the inspection? Then you should include it in the price. They took the tint charge off because I complained. And because it failed, you want to charge me again to do a partial reinspection? Zero chance I will ever be going back. I'd rather eat the full reinspection cost somewhere else. read more
