I have been craving pounded yam and okra soup, so I went to Murphys and brought a close friend. The food was great and a bit spicy. I enjoyed the meal. What was not good was the waitress Ashley. Once she brought the food, she just walked around on her phone. She never came to see if we needed anything or if we enjoyed the food. I did mention the food was spicy, right? The ticket actually had a $6 gratuity on there. If the waitress had shown some customer service, I'd be fine with that. She did not deserve a penny. The food is very good when I go, but if you get Ashley as your server, ask for another one!! read more

Yes, Yes, Yes. I just picked up my meal from Murphy's and all I can say is that the food hit the spot. I have been craving Jollof rice for the last week, so I decided to give Murphys a try. Called ahead placed my order, then drove to pick it up. On my drive to Murphy's I tried to lower my expectations, thinking to myself, the food won't be that good, there's no way they can cook Jollof as good as mom. Thankfully I was wrong. I picked up my food, brought it back home, opened up my togo box and the rice looked real good, none of that mushy stuff. Friend of mine took me here yesterday to try authentic African food for the first time. It was delicious, the food was amazing and the server was patient and willing to share more about each dish and hows it made. The restaurant is also 3 different clubs. Honestly i would say 0 stars. I dont know why murphy thinks its ok to have hateful servers who treat black women american so rude. Not my fault half of them look horrible and we are beautidul. Im always so nice and they roll their eyes and walk off when i want to order. Last night the supervisor bar lady i think she was thick light skinned black shirt blue jean shorts and hair pulled back. She cleaned the floor when someone put a towel in the drain. So rude and had a stank attitude. A guy ordered a shot for me through her and she looked like she hated that he ordered me drink. But she was so happy to help the men. Todd the manager was talking and she was yelling at him about the telephone. Just so rude and i was polite and she was super short with me. Think she said she from the bay area California. Murphy please teach your staff customer service and to respect black american women that are not african. Enjoyed this place a lot, upon arrival to order our food Togo we had to have a mask and temp checked, the place is a wholeeeee vibe. We was directed to the bar to order and social distancing was encouraging and easy to cooperate with. There was pool and ping pong available while we waited in our means. Arrived home and the food was still hot. The portion was huge and amazing! Hubby and I got oxtails and goat with Mac & cheese and red beans and rice. Goat was good & spicy, loved the oxtail. Murphy's mansion's food is amazing! I ordered the Edikaikong soup with pound yam, and it is to die for. The only issue I had was that my food took around 30 minutes to get to me. I did have to wave down the waitress and workers to figure out what was going on with my food, that was the only issue I had but the workers were quite nice they were not rude at all and assured me that my food was going to be ready. The crowd is a bit older maybe mid 30s to late or mid 50s there were not too many people here, although we came for food this is a night spot for people to come and enjoy their evening for example, party or hang at the bar with friends. Overall the soup was bomb! I will definitely be coming back here on a weekday preferably to order the same soup again, hopefully I receive my food faster but I would recommend coming here to eat, the food is great. read more

This is the worst spot ever. Zero Customer service. Order for a 2 shot whiskey with a single ice cube. The bar tender poured the shots over a cup full of ice. I gently declined telling her what I ordered and she rudely replied she can only take the ice out from the original drink. First time here during "happy hour" but did not reflect a happy hour price like the website mentions. We were excited about the food...my husband got goat and rice, and my coworker and I had the catfish nuggets and shrimp baskets. The nuggets were soooo small....like they took a regular size nugget and cut it in half. I asked for a refund and they couldnt immediately issue it in the system because the person that does it wasnt working at the moment. Ridiculous! They were out of jolif rice and tilapia which is what we originally wanted. How can you be an african restaurant with no jolif rice! this has been my go to spot for carribean food for the past year. i've been several times & always pleased with the service whether dining in or carry out. the space is absolutely HUGE!... hence the name murphys mansion. i think it must hav been an event center at some point but now it has the feel of a club/restaurant. they have a full bar & dine in seating which surrounds a spacious dance floor. pre-covid they would have a DJ during the evenings playing a mixture of afro beats, hip hop, and r&b. im not sure if this is still a thing during covid, as i've only had carryout lately. as for the eats, this is what i've had: oxtails (my favorite dish-very meaty), cabbage, beans/rice, beef patties, whole red snapper (lots of bones but the flavor is EVERYTHING!), jerk chicken (some of the best i've had), curry chicken is also really good, and plantains. i also tried the goat curry but wasnt a fan. i typically like this dish at other carribean places but it was way too gamey for me here. i would not discourage anyone from trying it tho; just wasnt for me. they also have a west african & east african menu, which i have yet to try anything from because the oxtails always call my name. its my goal to order something different in the new year. they also hav an american menu with the basics (burgers, fries, wings, etc). u can get this stuff anywhere so i'll pass on this. read more

This place gets a star because I liked the music. I ordered the jolaf rice with goat. It took forever and there weren't any other people ordering food. Ordered a drink and started having a convo with a very handsome man next to me. My food comes put and I make sure to taste it before I leave. I'm not a goat pro but I know meat shouldn't taste like a hunk of jerky. I had to spit it out. I picked that meal because the previous customer next to me at the bar was eating it. I'm nosey so I even got up to see his plate. The meat that I got was hard I thought it was bone. I almost broke my plastic fork trying to poke the meat. Jollof rice was fire! It took a while to bring the food out but that is to be expected as it was busy and the food tasted and appeared hot and fresh. The drinks were fairly strong. It's very dark in here even during after work (5-7pm) hours which was a little unnecessary but I guess that's the vibe of the place. Not worth your time. My friends and I went there this past Saturday and they pat guys down at the door. Then we walked in to absolute bedlam! It's 3 clubs in one but there is no sound proofing between two of them, so you get just some really loud noise i.e two different kinds of music. As if that's not bad enough, the speakers are busted so the sound quality is headache inducing! To top it off, some guy takes the mic and walks around talking, you can barely hear what he says but I guess he is the 'hype' man. What a waste of my money! They could probably make it with two music spaces instead of 3, one is at least behind a closed door, but they need to get a better sound system and combine the other two. I originally got the oxtails and stewed chicken but didn't get told they had no stewed chicken until after I got there to pick up my order and ended up with the curry chicken instead. Don't ever go to Murphy's restaurant I found a cockroach in the soup I was served and when I brought up the issue with the server the bouncer came to my table and ordered me to leave, he don't even give me a reason for kicking me me out he grabbed me by the arm and shoved me out the door. My very good friend came into town this weekend to visit me and do a little partying at this establishment and we left very disgusted and disappointed! We were seated in an area where the waitress never came to see how we were doing. The music was great, we were dancing at our table and the men were plentiful and looking great. Our waitress finally took our food orders and we asked for waters and rum and pinapples......... 20 minutes later, no waters, no drinks and no food, we were starving. My friend finally had to get up and go to the bar to request water! At this point when she got the water she finally runs into our waitress where she had to give our drink orders for a second time! After about another five, six minutes she brings my friends food out first where we had to request our drinks a third time! Then about maybe another 5 minutes my food comes out and STILL NO DRINKS! Then once we are eating she brings the drinks out but never once asks if we need anything. During the meal she did not come to check on us she never came back to see if we needed more drinks, more water or anything! Once we finally finished eating we're ready to pay our bill, get the plates out of there, and she never once comes over! After about 10 minutes of waiting we decided you know what we'll just get our own drinks at the bar and just request our bill. I get to the bar and literally take my friends plate to the bar and try to request more drinks. I finally speak with the bartender and she asks I wait a minute....... After about 6 minutes of waiting, this entire time I see our waitress JUST STANDING BEHIND THE BAR DOING NOTHING. I knew she saw me and never once did she acknowledge I was there AND THE BARTENDER NEVER COMES BACK FOR MY ORDER! At this point I was pissed, I told my friend that we should have just walked out, but we just decided to pay our bill and leave.... I had leftovers but at this point I just wanted to get out of there. Then as we are walking to the front our waitress finally brings the bill and I walk to the front to confront the manager....... I just let her know that we had horrible service and we just wanted to pay the bill and leave but that the waitress would never even check on us. The waitress seemed to only be working the main dining area which is why I felt that we were not being serviced properly as were eating in one of the dance areas....... But the waitresses for that area were bringing everyone their drinks and food on time. It was a horrible experience and I doubt I'll go back again anytime soon. The food was great the music was great but the service is horrible the people there are just nonchalant and have bad attitudes. The service was just unbelievable. And they acted like they didn't even care. I might go there for the food again, and I might even go back for the dancing and music...... But never at the same time. It will be a long ass time before I give them a chance again. And the only reason I gave this place 2 stars is because they have GREAT music and some good food and because this was not my first time there and my previous experiences were good, but this is why it's hard to patronize African American/Black American establishments. read more
