This is for the bar and restaurant. Walked into the bar and it smelled like manure and was filthy. Once I got into the dining room and sat down, the service wasn't great and the food was worse. A spider crawled out from under my plate and onto the table right next to my hand... I got up until my boyfriend caught it, and the waitress came over to ask if everything is okay. I said yes, only a bug has crawled out from under my plate... She looked at me like oh good, at least nothing is wrong. Nope. read more

I told myself after the last time I wouldn't go back; I didn't have a choice; as friends really wanted to meet there; so I went along. Everyone in our small group had issues with their orders. I had the grilled rib eye sandwich served open faced on garlic toast with sautéed mushrooms. The garlic toast was not toast or garlic! Just a piece of cold sourdough bread under the just warm; do I dare say meat? I ordered medium rare and got WELL DONE. It took so long to get our food I didn't bother saying anything. The rib eye was 3/8 of an inch thick; you couldn't see through it; but I don't think I have ever seen a rib eye cut that thin. The chowder was good; but it was just barley warm. Pretty sad that they have such a nice place and just don't bother spending a little on quality food or service. There are so many good places to eat in town; don't waste your time here. read more

Watch out for this place. They have a no mask policy. None of the servers nor bus people wear masks. They have moved the bar outside with people shoulder to shoulder with no masks. Stay safe and avoid this dump. read more

This was our second time at Murphy's Hotel Restaurant. The first trip we were seated inside, which was nice. But this time we sat on the patio and it was lovely. The food was excellent. I had the French dip with salad and we also had fries and fried pickles to share. It was all delicious. Will definitely return. read more

This place is a covid disaster. It appears to be a political statement that NONE of the staff wear masks or gloves. We went at dinner and breakfast and not a mask to be seen. Also witnessed the staff hugging each other, using ungloved hands to put straws in drinks, etc. The place is full of tourists so I have no idea what they are thinking. I feel so bad for the young wait staff that is at risk and likely can't say anything. Also witnessed someone over-served who then drove drunk into the outdoor seating barrier. This is what is wrong with our country. They lost a lot of business. read more

Lunch was just okay. Had a club sandwich - very average. Service was okay, nothing great. Dining room could use a makeover - dark, 70's remodel-looking. I won't return. read more

The employees do NOT wear masks and management does NOT require them too. Terribly unsafe. Do not come if you are concerned about corona.

We've eaten at the restaurant 6 times now over the course of three years. Most times I've the burgers or the fish and chips. Service is the main issue I have with this place, it's not terribly warm nor welcoming, but at least it's perfunctory. They do not have the swiftest of kitchens, one of the eight visits the food took a touch longer than one might expect for how busy they were. Every burger I've gotten has been hot, very well laden, tasty and not greasy. Lettuce, cheese and fixings have been fresh with a tender, savory meat patty. The onion rings are also quite tasty and large, if a touch oily. The fish and chips (fries) are also tasty and the fish fillets are quite sizeable. The desserts have been nice, especially when served with their coffee. Their coffee BTW is nice and mild, not bitter but with good flavour which works well with the sweet. Cost, like most restaurants in California is a smidgen high, mainly due to service. I'll elucidate: A bit more smile when entering/greeting. More than a 'pointed finger, "Sit where you wish" and look away' would be nice. (Update: Last visit we were led to a table.) More attentive table waiting/drink maintenance would help. Cola glasses should never -EVER- get below half, let alone empty! read more

During this time of covid precautions this place doesn't have it all together. Only one person working there had a mask on!! None of the waitresses, hostess, bus staff or bartender wore a mask. The guy that served our food was the only person with a mask on. No social distancing going on in the bar area, the dining tables seemed well spaced. Community salt and pepper shakers on tables. My ice tea came with a old dried up lemon wedge. The food was only ok, a Reuben sandwich and bbq pulled pork sandwich with overdone fries. Asked for bbq sauce instead of ketchup for fries and was charged an extra $1 for the bbq sauce. The service was very slow, (35 minute wait for food after our order was placed), to pay the bill took long also. I will say that our maskless waitress was friendly. read more

Had Easter Brunch there this past Sunday and it was the best brunch ever. It rivals the great holiday brunches in New York City, Hawaii, and California. Every dish was cooked to perfection from the Eggs Benedict to the Prime Rib to all the Salads and desserts. However, the Cedar Planked Smoked Salmon was outstanding, the best we have ever had. We can't wait for Mother's Day. read more

Breakfast is great also it's open every day and many places open thursdays. The breakfast food is great, service fast, cool old historic building, kind staff and all at the right price. read more

We stopped here for lunch because it had a large open lawn area for seating. The customer service was appalling, and the food was just mediocre. BUT in retrospect we should have gotten up and left when we realized none of them were wearing masks! We had to wait to be seated and frankly didn't notice until waiter was breathing down on us. Since ZERO employees there are masked had to wonder if they are allowed to wear masks. Gives the whole town an icky feeling of ignorance and lack of respect for the health of their customers and employees. read more

Murphys is one of our favorite get-away towns and has truly captured our hearts. As Napa residents we appreciate good food and great wine and Murphys has it all. The nicest people, many OUTSTANDING restaurants and wonderful wines. We are members of 3 wine clubs already and we love going to the numerous events in town. We often have breakfast or lunch at Murphys Hotel because we like the outdoor seating, the price and sometimes having a beer in an old establishment is just perfect for the mood you know? We have eaten dinner and lunch there many times and enjoyed many burgers and steaks and have never been disappointed. Recently we took family from nearby and from Virginia to dinner at the Hotel. It was so outstanding I simply had to take the time to write a review which I rarely do. I was so taken back by the perfection of everyone's cuisine that night I had to ask about the chef. I was told that his name is Joel and he is one of the new owners. He makes everything from scratch, all his sauces and broths and even the raviolis. He sources locally and buys the best products he can. My mother had the duck which can be very tricky. Normally I would never order duck unless I truly trusted the establishment and reputation but I had numerous bites and it was cooked and prepared PERFECTLY! I had a steak special served with a crab and hollandaise type sauce which was one of the best meals I have ever had. My Aunt had a braised lamb shank and the sauce was so rich and delicious and the meat was the most tender you could get. My Brother in Law had fried chicken that was also...PERFECTION....Take it from someone who has had Thomas Kellers fried chicken in Yountville...It rivaled! Everyone's dinner came with perfect locally sourced fresh asparagus and carrots. Not the baby peeled kind. The kind of carrots you pay 3x the price for in the store! The hotel gets a bad rap sometimes because of the hotel and its age but I can assure you as someone who has met the owners many times, they care about your stay and they care about their establishment. Do not let the grandma like decor in the dining room fool you! These guys and this chef mean business!!! The food there is extremely well intended and prepared! And personally, I love a good dive bar and really love the history of being at the Murphys Hotel.. read more

I love a good homemade corned beef hash and asked waitress if it was made in house. Yes we make it here. Meaning they open can and fry it crispy. Disappointing. My partner ordered eggs chorizo and crispy hasgbrowns. Salsa with it was really good. Just hard to forgive the deception of he corned beef hash.....those teeny tiny potatoes from the canned version are a dead giveaway. Cambria restaurants do the real thing. read more

After 3 years of listening to my wife tell me she wanted Murphy's Hotel's Ruben sandwich, we came back and I will tell you, it was and is the best Ruben in Northern California. The second you walk through the door, you're family and everyone gets along. Love this place. PS: the Murphy Stout is one good beer read more

stopped into the outdoor dining thursday eve. Aug 6th, for a drink, the waiter warned us of terrible service, no mask- he was wearing red tee shirt. he was right. Over an hour to get two drinks and a crappy appetizer. we also moved our table due to being overwhelmed by flies. never again. read more

Had breakfast on the patio. Food was great. I had the french toast which was great, almost didn't need syrup. This was a Saturday morning about 10:30AM. Waiters warned us that it could take a while because they were very busy. In fact it did take a while. Bloody Mary Was Primo! read more

Cuban sandwich is delicious. I've had it 3 times. Always good.

This review is for breakfast in the restaurant. It was exactly three stars for "A-OK." Not bad. Not great. They do serve breakfast until 11:30 a.m. on weekdays, so that's a huge plus. I ordered the famous corn beef hash which was good. My poached eggs were overcooked. The home fries were EXCELLENT. My significant other's sandwich was nothing special. I could have made a BLTA twice as good. The coffee was good. The toast was good. They ran out of sasparilla (at 11 a.m.?). The atmosphere was old historic hotel campy. That's what I wanted for that place, and it delivered. I liked reading about the history of the hotel and looking around. It was A-OK indeed. read more

Came here for Breakfast as most other places were not serving breakfast around 11am on a weekday. This place has a nice patio area. Inside has the historic charm to it. I enjoyed reading the paper placemat that gave the history on the place. Reasonable priced breakfasts with all the fixings... toast, hashbrowns etc. read more

This is a review for the restaurant only. And for brunch only. After wine-tasting while sporting a little bit of a hangover, one wants something hearty. I had the corn-beef hash, which was OUTSTANDING, with eggs over easy and country potatoes (which were a bit flabby), a mimosa and coffee. JJ ordered the meat-lovers omelet - they weren't kidding! It was a lot of meat with some egg - and hash browns, which he loved. Lots of coffee refills and great service. All in all, great value for money for pretty darn good food. No complaints here! read more

A group of us dined at the hotel restaurant this past weekend and were pleasantly surprised by both the food and the service. Despite the fact that there was a 20 year high school reunion party complete with a DJ rocking 90s hits, our dinner on the patio was great. In our party of 6 we had a dairy and a gluten allergy plus one lactose intolerant diner. Our server was non-plussed by our "special dietary needs" and was very careful to verify ingredients with the chef and recommend alternate choices. She was attentive and professional throughout the meal. Everyone's food was really good and the atmosphere on the patio made it a fun dining experience. We will definitely be back the next time we're in town! read more

If your looking to dine in at Murphy's Hotel, I highly don't recommend eating here for dinner. The service was very poor, it took over 1hr45min to finally have our dinner. In addition, the meal itself, was terrible. We had ordered a filet, medium, came out medium-raw. A New York, medium-well, and it came out medium-well on one side, and medium on the other side. The kids cheeseburger, was completely under cooked. When I called the server over, and showed her, her response on all three meals, "that it was exactly cooked to perfection." Do people really buy the bull crap here??? I then asked to speak to a manager, it took an additional 15 minutes waiting to let him know that these highly expensive steaks were in-fact not cooked how we wanted them. So I got up and tapped on another servers shoulder to ask to speak with him, thinking he must be in charge, and turns out he was the rudest person. Big guy, with a beard, in a tie. When I tapped on his should asking to speak to him he was furious. Based on all 3 categories, wait time, service, and quality, we left no tip on $162 dollar meal. I can't even remember not leaving a tip ever in all the years as bad as this was. I highly, highly don't recommend this place. The rudest people, the wait time to get your meal is unacceptable, and the quality for what your paying for is terrible. Doesn't even deserve a star! read more

Best steak I ever had! Everyone and everything In this restaurant is great including 1st class service! Happen across it by chance and what luck And a cool town as well. This restaurant is amazing!! I called the Event coordinator/owner Brian, about a week in advance trying to book a baby shower as a few other venues fell through. Brian was extremely responsive and responded with quotes almost immediately on such short notice. The restaurant allowed us to show up early at the private dining room (which was beautiful) to decorate for the shower. We arrived to a set dining room table for our guests with fresh flowers and clean glasses and silverware. Plus extra tables for our gifts and desserts. The food was brought in by helpful staff and set up very nicely. Our waitress Carol went above and beyond! She was so sweet and attentive while still waitressing the public area of the restaurant. The food was delicious!!! We never felt rushed and had a really great time. If anyone is looking to plan a beautiful shower or luncheon, I would highly recommend the Murphy's Historic Hotel and Restaurant. read more

Absolutely fantastic! Not to be missed!! Unbelievable service in the bar and restaurant!!! The food was delicious! Hang out for karaoke on Thursdays and listen to the town's many hidden talents. We've been coming to this restaurant for 5+ years and it never disappoints. I don't know why it has low Yelp ratings. Go!! You will be glad you did! read more

We had breakfast and lunch in August 2021. Food was delicious and came out fresh and hot. We had the chicken salad (nicely coated crisp greens), prime rib sandwich, soup of the day (minestrone w/ beef mmm), corned beef hash, biscuits & gravy with sausage and eggs (mmmm), bread pudding w/ caramel sauce...omg...everything was delicious. No regrets on food. Staff were quick to seat us, our host knew the menu and flavors, our host/server took care of all our requests, super friendly and professional staff (yay), very elegant and clean table settings. No regrets on choosing a hard-working, down-to-earth, common-sense establishment which happens to kick-out delicious food...sometimes while all other establishments have closed hours. Breathe the fresh air! read more

Had a lovely lunch of 1\2 rack of ribs and fries (reasonably priced at $13) and my husband had Ruben and onion rings. The historic bar was all dressed up for Halloween. Fun! Parker was our server. He was awesome! Attentive and respectful of our time to soak up the relaxed vibe. Sports on all TV too!! Raider territory, so fun and loud. Sipped on Hatcher Cabernet. A locals favorite, but really welcoming to guests. Lots of local beers on tap. read more

It gets two stars cuz the server rocked. We were there for a Saturday night ust drinking night, then the morning after. Saturday night, they had a wedding. They were four deep in the front and back bars all night. Not enough staff by a long shot to handle it. They way staff poured, I would be surprised if they actually made money. One guy in the outside bar, I am told he is an owner, was completely on something - wild eyes, and sloppy all at the same time. He was pretty rude to anyone asking for a drink. If he is an owner, the place will not last very long under current management. Each bar could have used one more bartender each. The two that were there had to run to far up and down the areas to get what they needed and cash people out. The next morning we went back for brunch, hearing it was going to be on some Ramsey show. I got the prime rib scramble and the wifey got the burger. The steak in the scramble was tough as leather. The wifeys burger - raw! We both got bloody marys - each had about an inch of pepper in the bottom - pretty bad. Even the guys at the next table warned us not to get the bloody mary, we should have listened! Not sure what Ramsey tried to accomplish here... read more

A friend and I went there for dinner last night and it was absolutely wonderful. We both had chipotle blackened chicken salad's and it was done perfectly! The service was great and so is the atmosphere. I can't say enough, if you haven't gone you should try it. It was also very reasonably priced for all the food that you got. Very different then other restaurants in Murphy's. Well done! read more

This review is for the restaurant only. I stopped in here with a group of friends for a late breakfast (brunch). There were 12 of us, and we had no problem with being seated. We decided to sit outside, because it was such a nice day. The service was great. The menu had something for everyone. I went with the seafood omelet...crab and shrimp heaven! I ordered sourdough toast with my meal, and I have to say...it was the BEST sourdough bread I have ever had. I'm pretty picky about my hashbrowns too, and these were perfect. Everyone I was with cleaned their plates, and had nothing but good things to say about their meal. I plan to go back again soon! read more

This review is based off of the Mother's Day brunch we had here this year. My dad and I wanted to do something nice for my mom, as this was her first Mother's Day without my grandma. We decided on a nice, slowed down brunch to start the day. I checked around and priced just about everywhere else out. We called a few weeks in advance and they got us one of the last tables available outside (or so they said). The day of arrived and we got to the hotel a few minutes early. We were promptly seated and offered mimosas, which of course we said yes to. Our server was very nice and quite attentive. The food was good, nothing to write home about. The variety of food was astounding. They had eggs Benedict, biscuits and gravy, breakfast meats galore, and so much more. They also had fresh fruit and a desert station too. Overall, for the price, it was definitely worth it. read more

Came in for outdoor dining at 8:00 pm on Saturday night. The restaurant stops seating at 9:30 but I noticed the server was clearing the silverware off the tables already. I asked the one server what time they closed, she said 9 ( which was not true) and I asked if it was a problem because quite obviously did not want us there. She said it was fine while acting as if she was doing us a huge favor and seated us. She then told another server that she had a new table. She was also visibly unhappy with getting another table. We waited for another 10 minutes while they did their best to ignore us until we finally left. Mind you it was 2 hours before closing on a Saturday night, 1 1/2 hours before they stopped seating, there was one table of 2 that was eating and a table of 6 that was finished eating. So in other words, not busy at all and not close to closing time so no reason for the awful service. I called and spoke to someone the next day who later admitted that she didn't care because she was just the front desk. I experience bad service often without resorting to a Yelp review, trust me, if I'm spending time leaving this it was beyond the norm. read more

Ambiance is OK. Service was slow even though they were uncrowded at the tale end of lunch. Ice tea was too watered down. Pork Tacos were good except for the 1.25" bone in one of them.
