Excellent experience at the Chophouse in Murphy, NC. I was in town for work with my wife and stopped into the Chophouse walking through downtown. We were pleasantly surprised with the quality of the food and the exceptional service. We were served by the manager and he took time to give us the layout of the town and stopped to take a picture of us. The Caesar salad was professionally dressed and the local mountain trout was a treat. I highly recommend to anyone looking for a pleasant atmosphere and high quality local food. read more

Wants to be a fine dining restaurant - prices certainly are. Service was... challenged, to be generous, by our party of two on a very slow evening. Items on menu were certainly creatively penned - but what was served was quite disappointing, and one entree was actually void of all flavor - which we both found amazing after reading about all of the items listed seasoning it. Another fun fact is that they round your check up to the next dollar, if you are paying cash - our server said they "dont keep change" - we paid with a credit card. Came in on a Friday for dinner, it was pretty slow, we were greeted and seated right away. Our waiter was Jacob and he did an Amazing job! He went above and beyond for us. We eat out a lot and I must say he is one of the best servers we ever had! The food was also 5/5 stars! The restaurant was clean! Ordered to go from Chophouse and was pleased with 2/3 of my meal. Unfortunately the 1/3 I didn't enjoy was the entree, which makes me question returning. To go service was friendly. French onion soup- very tasty. Lots of cheese and a giant 'crouton' included. Summer berry salad with chicken- what a disappointment. The chicken appears to be frozen and prepared early in the day, not made to order. The chicken was cut into perfect cubes and was so tough I could barely chew it. The sparse blue cheese, strawberries, and pecans were all that I ate out of the salad. For a restaurant like this, I expect much better for the chicken. Chocolate layer cake- so rich but so yummy! Delicious! Enjoyed the patio, weather was gorgeous and the patio offered dog friendly seating which was perfect. Our waitress brought a small water bowl with our drinks specifically for our pup. We visited for brunch, this spot came recommended by our Airbnb host and did not disappoint. The she-crab soup was great. Ate dinner this time at Murphys and wow! What a fabulous dinner. There were 7 of us dining and everyone's meal was perfect. Salads were fresh, filet mignon was superb with a tasty sauce, fried pork chops were excellent, onion soup flavorful. Drinks were excellent as well. Highly recommend for an enjoyable and flavorful dinner. We returned here twice after this review and were disappointed with the steak. Don't know what happened here. Small town in the middle of nowhere, and driving through hungry...great find by accident. Had to wait 20 minutes before restaurant opened at their bar; which presented to me a 9.875 martini (NY scale), great conversation with staff beforehand which also was very southern friendly to both me, and my wife. This is typically a very nice place to eat but I am very disappointed with my take-out order of over $100 tonight. The side salads they sent took every bit of 3 bites to finish. Hardly anything in the box. The steaks were cooked correctly but I can accurately say that 4 of the 10oz of my ribeye was fat. We got an order of seared tuna and they sent half the amount that usually comes in the order. And everything was just thrown together very sloppy. The taste was great, but the proportions and preparation were absolute garbage this time. However, the restaurant was completely booked (to COVID-19 capacity) but it took them roughly an hour and a half to have my order ready. I worked at another restaurant last summer as a server, and I had a group of three Native American customers that I had the pleasure of serving. They informed me that they went to the Chophouse prior to coming to this restaurant and were seated but nobody ever came to serve them. They were dressed poorly (tank tops, dirty jeans, tattoos, etc.) but they were very kind customers. They were ignored at the Murphy Chophouse and basically refused service. I had no complaints having them as my customer and they even left a pretty good tip. This incident was a year ago and I hope that this will not be a reoccurring issue, but it reflects poorly on the integrity of this establishment. I really want to like this restaurant but it has given me many reasons to not return. If you care about taste, this is the place for you. But beware that they have much to work on. read more

Today was our first experience here after reading various positive reviews. The atmosphere is super relaxing and calm and our waitress was a gem. She was very patient, kind and helpful. The food just wasn't impressive, unfortunately. We ordered the fried onion and mozzarella pops as appetizers. SOOOO under seasoned and the onion was rock hard and coated in flour in the center as it wasn't fried properly. Caprese sandwich was well loved by a guest of my party, as well was the prime rib sandwich. Coleslaw was so-so. My quesadilla was packed with hard, cartilage-like pieces of chicken. The lack of seasoning seems to be a relatively common complaint. If they fixed that, I would definitely be back more often. I'll be back to try their brunch, regardless. And to management who often replies to reviews and call pushes the blame on customers for not speaking up: no, I didn't pull a Karen and complain about the lack of seasoning, hard friend onion, or mid coleslaw. read more

If you are going for dinner come here and enjoy the succulent calamari and the finger licking crab dip. The calamari was perfectly breaded and didn't fall apart. It was also seasoned well. I like the small toast that accompanies the crab dip which gives a delicious crunch. The service was quick and the wine selection not half bad. Never come here for lunch because their sandwiches are laughable. A tuna melt that is not even melted. A French dip roast beef sandwich with the meat barely seasoned. Immediately one discovers a fine chef commands the Chophouse kitchen! She crab soup started this wonderful meal. My roasted chicken was brimming with flavor, a well-crafted application of spices and sauces. My wife selected the baked peach salmon, lightly finished with brown sugar. A true Southern fish. This was our second visit since moving to Murphy a year ago. We were told by our Realtor that it was not the place to go. Well seems to me we have different tastes! Both visits found us with good food, pleasant atmosphere and an attentive wait staff. We were outside the first time, at the bar and everyone was enjoying themselves. We let the Barmaid suggest the wine and entrees both were great choices. The second time was two weeks ago and Anthony was our server. He mad a few suggestions on the appetizer and we were more than happy with the result. Found a wine we both liked on the menu, purchased a bottle and and found that unlike most restaurants, they didn't gouge the cost of the bottle (I had purchased one previously and they didn't triple the cost as most do). Me and my husband went today to celebrate Valentine's Day for lunch. He got a steak, mid rare and it came out almost well done with no flavor. I got the Alfredo pasta with lobster, when I got it I thought it was super good, until I saw the bug in my food. Disgusting. I had the dish remade since I was starving and this was my first meal of the day. The second time it was brought out the lobster tasted kind of off. So I got it boxed to go thinking it was just me still grossed out from the bug. On the drive home we talked about lunch and my husband mentioned that the lobster tasted off and how it was probably spoiled since our car was already starting to stink from the ToGo box. We had to pull over at a gas station to throw it away it spelled so gross. I will not be back. A bug in my food then spoiled lobster is not worth it. The staff did comp the dish off of our bill obviously. I am giving the 1 star review just for the staff. All of them where very nice! It is absolutely disgusting. read more

Hostess was on phone, after waiting and waiting the bartender/server seated us. food was served and the Bison burgar was soggie wet mush, one bit and i spit it on my plate. ok i am done, i showed (Ariel) the server , she said wow that doesn't even look like our bison burgers. So she took it off our check i was ok, but the kicked, which made me write this review is, Ariel brought my change and was $10 dollars short. I went to the bar and told her my change was short $10 , and with a smart aleck reply, Areil said oh i must have miss counted, then she pulled a 10 from the back or her tips tucked under some tickets, there was also a 20 behind there with my $10. The service was great, the salad was great, the bread was great BUT THAT WAS IT. I ordered a rib eye steak 14oz med rare. And my lovely ordered a prime rib med. both with baked potatoes. The potato's was not done almost hard for both of us. The prime rib was cold about a 1/2 in. Thick no taste. We decided to take a chance and try this place out. Big mistake. The menu was limited, so we decided to go with a burger and a salad. Can't go wrong with that can you?? The salad was a Caesar, and would gave been good except they were homemade croutons (which should be a good thing), but were soooo salty that it ruined the salad. If my hubs leaves croutons , there is a serious problem. Then the burgers. The were the frozen, thin, cheap patties. We ordered medium, and they were absolutely tasteless, and raw in the middle. With a name with Chophouse in the title, I would think they could do A LOT better for a burger, or meat of any kind. Really glad I didn't order a steak. This restaurant always has a lot full of cars, so I decided to stop in for a late lunch. The outside area had a lot of people at the bar, so I ate inside where it was cool. I ordered the chicken salad croissant, but it had run out. I switched to the prime rib with cheese sandwich and sweet potato fries. The sandwich was delicious (a little overpriced) and the bread had the just right amount of crustyness. Afterwards I ordered a house made key lime pie, which was to die for! Entire check was $32 including tip. I would go again occasionally or for a special occasion. read more

Disappointing. We probably should not have made Sunday brunch our first visit. The hostess/wait staff was completely unprepared for the brunch rush. It took 20 minutes for anyone to acknowledge that we were seated. It took 40 minutes for our meals - basic brunch...eggs, home fries etc.. The coffee was old/stale and overly strong. All the tables around us had The same problem and at one point not a single seated table had any food in front of them at all. We're willing to give this restaurant a second chance (it was nicely decorated and clean and the food was overall good...except the coffee.) but will probably return on a slow weeknight for better service. read more

One of the waitresses passed us twice as though we were invisible. No hello... not a word. Our waitress was friendly and prompt. The salad, soup bread, and adult beverages were very good. Unfortunately our main coarse was room temperature. The prime rib was medium/medium well though requested rare. The flavor was good but the meat was room temperature and over cooked. The seafood special was warm in the middle. Both the cheese grits and Gouda Mac and cheese were room temperature as well. The food would have been much more enjoyable had it been served hot and the steak served as ordered. My wife and I came to Chopped while on vacation after it was suggested by someone at the local casino. I ordered the chicken Parmesan because I had seen an earlier review which said it was the best she had...it was not. It had zero flavor and had a huge hunk of Mozzarella dumped on top. It wasn't even melted in the slightest. My wife had the 14 oz ribeye. It came out almost rare and everything was cold on the plate. The best part was the baked potato. Our server was gracious and very polite. I never send things back ever and would suffer through to avoid embarrassing someone but this was unreal. The service was good but definitely not 5 star rated. Our plates sat on the table waiting to be cleared a long time. I'm pretty sad about our experience because we were really looking forward to a nice meal especially after people raving about the place. read more

It was a good night to sit out on the deck. We started with a calamari app which was DELICIOUS! As you see from the pic, not your traditional circles any baby octopi. Thick hearty pieces with a great lemony zest after taste. My Bison Bacon Cheeseburger was tasty.....and the Charleston She Crab Soup was hot and tasty!. My wife had the special fish sandwich which she enjoyed. Her salad was fresh and crisp. The only negative, which was not the restaurant's fault was some knucklehead next door decided to crank up their chainsaw and cut up some wood for a little bit.
