I always assume that my projects are more important to me than they are to anyone else. You know, "if you want something done right..." Vinny cared more about this flooring project than I did, is a true artist and price was beyond fair. Vinny explained everything to me as it was happening, obliged me when I was being nosey, and was even great with my two dogs (if you're a dog person, you get it). We're gonna have him back again to refinish the existing hardwood in the rest of the house. It's great to find someone truly talented who you can trust. I kinda wish Vinny also fixed cars, appliances, did plumbing, and my taxes. ;)

It was super convenient for them to give an estimate via phone based on the pictures we provided, and the final cost matched their estimate exactly. WHAT??? Now it will be $$ to fix something that I didn't authorize to be put there in the first place. I called the company, the guy said he couldn't understand how hair could get through those holes. Really! Said it would be easy to remove that piece until he saw the picture of his own work. He said it might damage the bathtub to remove it. Ok, so why did you put it in...??? Do you know what a hair catcher is? I did not authorize this. Oh and I'm so stupid for trusting you and not watching you like a hawk while you worked. Again, my mistake. I'm the one that's stupid. Not what I asked for and they refuse to fix it without charge. Fred picked up two different pieces for me (at 2 different times) and I just got back the first piece and it looks AMAZING! He had us come in and choose our stain, one of his employees helped us choose and tested it out on the piece to make sure we liked it. Plus he explained the different types of finishes they could put on it and showed us examples. His warehouse is full of pieces they're re-doing and I can see why so many people use Fred's. Fred called me to let me know that the wood on the second piece he's refinishing is a completely different wood so the stain will not look the same. He just wanted to make me aware of it and show me the work in progress to make sure I liked it. I appreciate the honesty and the heads up. Fred and his employees are friendly, efficient and produce excellent quality work. I highly recommend Fred's.

Extended Review: I was you - I didn't have anyone who knew a floor installer for hardwood, and I was trying to google-fu my way into finding one. I stumble across Ciprian, see the 5.0 google rating at 360+ reviews, and think either "this guy must be amazing" or "he's got a great review bot setup." Turns out he's just that good. I sent him an email about wanting to add hardwood flooring to two bedrooms in my Chicago condo, ideally matching the existing hardwood flooring throughout other areas of the home. He responded within the day with a rough estimate, and within 3 days made a visit to take measurements and produced a precise estimate that night, along with a diagram of what wood species my floor was and what he recommended. The next day, we had the install scheduled for 3 weeks later. He set expectations upfront that the color wouldn't be a perfect match since it wouldn't be the exact same wood, exact same stain, and all the flooring wouldn't be installed at the exact same time. Ciprian delivered the flooring a couple days after that. I didn't know this, but apparently it's best to have the wood acclimate to where it gets installed prior to being installed (for expansion / contracting based on temp / moisture). Ciprian knows this, because Ciprian knows wood. On the first day of the install, him and his partner had the carpet removed hardwood slinging immediately while also replacing some old base plywood boards free of charge; they finished installing the boards in both rooms that first day. oved When it was time to stain, he wanted me there to approve it - he mixed 5 different stains and placed them throughout the rooms to compare lighting with the existing boards. He then went back and forth tweaking the best stain making it darker/lighter until he got the perfect match - it was a point of personal pride to try and match it as close as possible. Ciprian is professional, punctual, responsive, diligent, efficient, and passionate about his wood species (which is a massive green flag for the guy installing your hardwood) and most importantly about the quality of work he provides. He and his team finished a day early, matched the new floor's stain against the current floors perfectly, and left me with a new standard for contractors that's going to be really hard to measure up against. If you made it this far, you can take the final step and shoot an email to Ciprian for whatever project you have because you've found your guy - he is him.
