They have been hand crafting chocolates in Connecticut for 77 years since 1946 and 3 generations now! I recently went to the Newington location to learn more about all of the types of chocolate they make and it's so impressive. Turtles, Buttercream, Butter crunch, their truffles---all so good! You go to Munson's if you want classic chocolates done well at a good price and you like to support CT places. You can buy boxes or pick exactly what you want. The chocolates are of course delicious. It's been an area go to if I need something like teacher or co-worker appreciation gifts. Service is always friendly, but if you choose your own chocolates, service can be clunky. The primary reason seems to be that there are many different per pound prices for seemingly similar chocolate. Therefore, there is a lot of weighing and note taking that leads to a bunch of stops and starts. This adds up if you're at the back of a long line. That's why I try to go at off times. I love Munson's! It's been my favorite chocolate since I was a kid, although I admit I try to refrain since I have little self control, and it is rather expensive truth be told. Well, now I shop here for chocolates for my son for special occasions, as he's also a huge fan. The only time I sensed any sort of attitude here was when I was taking photos, as I was asked if I could be helped, and when I said no she asked why I was taking pictures because pictures are not allowed. I respectfully put my phone away and explained that I'm very into Yelp so they were for Yelp, then everyone was super friendly! I sampled a couple coconut chocolate options, bought some stuff my son picked out (he LOVES the seasonal chocolate mint layered truffles), some of the tasty coconut chocolates in milk and dark, and a bag of Beer Brittle, made in partnership with Hooker Brewery (which I love, supporting local CT businesses, especially ones that support and work with one another!)! Also, one time I was at Onyx Distillery in E. Hartford, they had an AMAZING Munson's box of 6 chocolates for $10 that were made to pair with the tasting. Phenomenal! This place is wonderful as always....we stopped to stock up on some yummies....Seriously, this place is by far the best chocolate maker around, and could easily rival Godiva or others for best products, and Fanny Farmer has no hope against the decadent, delicious MUNSONS! When I lived out of state, and had no access tot hem, their website provided a lil taste of CT (albeit at a high cost, since i had to pay the extra 22+ bucks for the ''non melt'' shipping, as I lived in FL!) BUT they do ship everywhere! :o) HOWEVER today....big problem.... I am going to call their home office about on MONDAY! They have STOPPED making their most WONDERFUL product! The Molasses chips.....they were little honeycomb chips dipped in decadent dark chocolate (or Milk Chocolate)...... We were crushed and i actually thought the guy was screwin'; with me.....but sadly, the have been (TEMPORARILY....if I have anything to say about it) DISCONTINUED. Booooo hoooooo boo fricken hooo! waaaaaaaaaa waaaaaaa ps......Their Chocolate BUNNIES they stock before Easter are really my very favorite things.....Sadly, after Easter, there is no sale on those items....They bring them back to the 'shop' and MELT them down into other chocolates......Bunny genocide. i've lived in many cities and traveled many countries, and wherever i go, i make sure to sample the chocolate. and in all my travels, i have yet to find an equal to munson's dark chocolate almond bark. i can possibly chalk it up to nostalgia, b/c i did grow up in CT, but other ppl who've never lived in CT agree that munson's is damn good chocolate. every time i come back to CT, i get a 1/4 lb. of assorted chocolates for about $4, and i'm happy. $4 for happiness is pretty good, right? check out other locations in westfarms mall, the new blueback square in west hartford, and other towns. read more

At Munson's, you will get some wonderful chocolates and not get ripped off. There are so many to choose from that it takes forever to make a decision (especially if you are like me, wanting everything). The store is clean and attractive and very well stocked. The people who waited on me were very nice and quite patient, even though I kept saying "just one more". The only thing that keeps this store from getting five stars is that the chocolates were not all in little candy cups so they were touching each other in the box. Normally, I wouldn't care about that but I ordered a lot of flavored ones that don't go well together. Mint truffles are quite strong and my peanut butter cup was sitting bare on top of the minty truffle. Trust me, folks, mint and peanut butter are not two flavors that should be mixed! I also had to throw away the orange one (I hate wasting chocolate!) because it smelled like mint when I went to bite into it. Yeah, I probably didn't need the calories anyway, but I'm still a little sore about it. read more
