I've been rip-roarin' to write a scathing two-star review of the 6-Hayes/Parnassus, mainly because…read moreI was so angry that Muni not only eliminated my beloved 21-Hayes but also ruined more of the fabric of east-west bus routes by combining the eastern potion of the 21's old route with the western portion of the old 6-Haight/Parnassus's route. So only one bus to catch on Haight Street at Divisadero. And since the already truncated 21's route was so pathetically short and not useful since they messed with it after COVID, what's the point of this now? And then the bus line actually came, and it's actually ridiculously convenient for me, much more convenient than the old 6 used to be. I still have my issues with it. The main one is for my Hayes Street neighbors who live west of Masonic Avenue. How do they catch the bus now? They either have to walk all the way to Stanyan Street and wait forever for a not terribly useful 33-Ashbury/18th Street, or they have to walk uphill to the 5-Fulton. That's poor planning, especially for people with limited mobility who have trouble traversing steep hills. The entire point of a bus on Hayes Street is that between Stanyan and Scott Streets, it's more or less flat--or at least as flat as a half-mile in San Francisco can realistically be. But another thing happened when they killed my line and moved the 6 over to my street; I can now ride the bus almost doorstep to doorstep both to the Upper Haight and to my brother's house. That has been super useful to me--maybe even too useful, because when I'm lazy, I sometimes take the bus to Free Gold Watch instead of doing my normal walk through the Panhandle, which is better for my health, although sometimes not for my bottomless irritation with my fellow San Franciscans. I still want to rage against the dying of the light--the light in this case being a familiar old bus line--but I would be lying if I said that this change hasn't been useful to me personally. Muni could actually solve most of this problem by having either the 6 or the 7 stay on Stanyan and then turn onto Hayes (which ends at Stanyan) and stay on that street until it turns wherever Downtown. But that would make too much sense, and the SFMTA is too busy spending its money painting huge red zones all over the city to do what's right for local bus riders and drivers alike. This should be a three-star review, but the added convenience is worth at least a Yelp star.

Glides through traffic without having other cars backing it up. I took this line from 6/2017-5/2019 and it was the best thing that ever happened to me when going across SF. Most of the time, bus drivers on this route know what they are doing. They are very sweet and some of them live along the route of where the bus goes. I needed more time to get to Golden Gate Park and this bus gets there in lesser time than the regular line. For students who are looking to transfer from SFSU bus lines and go to downtown SF, this bus takes the cake. For tourists this is a blessing for locals this is a diamond. I am not from SF but was lucky to get on.

When you need to travel within the vicinity that the 5 and 5L serves, you found the bus routes. Hopefully, these limited stop and express routes will address the crowding issue more effectively. The "L" after the number is written like an exponent so it may be hard to see. This is the same thing we will see on the bus signs for the 9L, 14L, 28L, 38L, & 71L. Once again, props to MUNI for opening this route. It is a lifesaver for me and other passengers.

Whether I'm hanging out downtown, relaxing in the Richmond, or frolicking in the Tenderloin / City Center, this bus is the one to take. Plus, it's way faster than the regular 38 Geary. When traffic is flowing, its only feels like minutes before this bus hits the downtown area from its starting point. Not all buses are created equal. I can name far too many buses that have their share of frequent shady characters, shoddy bus routes, and infrequent times. Thankfully for the 38L, these things aren't ever really an issue. There is one issue. Because everyone loves the 38L, it tends to be one of the more crowded buses. Getting a seat is near impossible during rush hour and many of the stops are stacked with eager commuters. Listen to the automated Spanish and Cantonese prompts while holding onto the rail straps for dear life. Ignore the delinquent teens and give your seat up to the elderly Chinese woman. She probably rides the bus way more than you do.

What I appreciate most about this station is the ample parking, clean restrooms, and overall ease of access. The round-trip fares are also reasonably priced without necessarily breaking the bank. Overall, I will continue returning to the Walnut Creek BART station for my Bay Area travel needs, especially for trips into the heart of San Francisco.

But what this line has going for it is the fact that it stops downtown at all of the stations. But this went to a three star review because it goes to the San Francisco Airport and I love that! It's so much easier than the old $2 shuttle to to the airport. Last time my hubby and I traveled back from Mexico, we caught BART from the station and it was so easy. I really loved that! The line closes pretty early. At one point, I was leaving a concert, Taj Majal in the city and my husband, his son and I had to crawl under the gate as it was closing to get into the station. For such a lively, party city, they should have later trains than they do. So, while I don't go to SF much, I'm glad that I can make it. Also, I love that if I need to take Muni, I'm able to get on at a station or close to a station. I do wish that it went more places than it does, but it is what it is. It goes where it goes and that's fine. But there are other places that I'd like to go to in the city and can't get there because BART doesn't go there. But it's there when I need it, so it's all good.

WHAT? INSANE! So EVERYONE off boards the train then 2 minute later the operator comes back and states that the train is back in service! OMG! TIP for you? Why don't you tell your operators to NOT off board people on the train until they are CERTAIN the train will be going out of service, please! -Okay, I understand that there have been new operators and it may be there first time driving a big train BUT I am really starting to hate the sudden stops that occur when I am trying to enjoy my ride. The operators slam on the brakes and all you see are people flying all over the train. I have to admit that there have been times that I have lost my balance because of the sudden stops. We drove our car to a concert in Oakland, but on the way home we got a flat tire. luckily, we pulled off on an exit near this station. The gentleman working at the booth was our guardian angel. Not only did he explain everything clearly and patiently, he genuinely cared and went above and beyond to help us. I nearly cried because he was like a knight in shining armor, he was an ally in a difficult situation. I literally created a yelp account just to acknowledge this amazing man and the excellent quality of our late-night BART experience overall (everyone was helpful, the trains were clean and prompt). Once we got home, my teenage daughter told me , and I quote without exaggeration, that "this experience renewed my faith in humanity". From now on, I plan to travel this way more regularly. Its if you want the most practical way into the city where parking is difficult. I use this transfer station once in a while. If you have a victim mindset just avoid it - I think kriminals can sniff out fear and target that sort of thing. Maybe its even a sort of self fulfilling prophecy sort of thing. Expect the worst out of people get the worst. I'm not sure though. For all the German tourists that send their 18 year old daughters here - its not a smart thing to do. Unless your really hurting for cash give them finances to avoid public transportation - especially after hours.

The Downtown Route ends at the Presidio Transit Center, next to the Presidio Visitor Center, where you can transfer to the South Hills Route to reach other destinations throughout the Presidio. The Downtown Route makes stops at: * 50 Beale Street * Drumm & California * Letterman Digital Arts Center * Tides Converge * Presidio YMCA * Presidio Transit Center I really like having this free shuttle option because it makes getting to the Presidio much easier without having to drive. Station is clean and there's also parking available for any direction you're traveling to or from. As this station is still part of the Oakland corridor, though a well-traveled location, would still recommend to stay aware of surroundings.
